Stanley Matthews Jr.
HOT SPRINGS - Gloria Braxton, Mary Nelson and Delores Beale of Hot Springs, received word of the death of their brother, Stanley Matthews, Jr., 57, of Clinton N.C.
Mr. Matthews died Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Kitty Askins Hospice in Goldsboro, N.C.
He was born January 10, 1949, in Baltimore, Md.; the son of the late Stanley Matthews, Sr. and Alease Bruce Mattthews.
Mr. Matthews worked as a busboy at The Homestead Resort in Hot Springs and as a truck drive for MS Carriers for 30 years.
Surviving are a son, Dr. Stanley Matthews, III; a brother, Alvin Matthews; sisters, Gloria Braxton, Mary Nelson, Delores Beale, Bessie Raines, Alease Matthews and Kathryn Boxley; a special friend, Danielle Herring and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to his parents Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by a brother, a sister and a nephew, Dwayne K. Braxton.
A funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Andrews Funeral Chapel, Clinton, North Carolina.

Kenneth Wright
ROANOKE - Kenneth (Albert) Wright of Alleghany County died Friday March 17, 2006.
He was born October 29, 1949.
He is preceded in death by his father Kenneth W. Wright; grandparents, Claude and Bessie Wright, Robert and Myrtle Tucker; brothers, Daniel L. Wright, Michael E. Wright and half-brother, C. M. Hipes.
Surviving are his wife, Anna G. Wright; son, Kenneth A. Wright II; daughters, Victoria A. Wright, Jennifer W. Wilcox and Windy W. Crowder; grandson, "Willie" Samuel Mason Wilcox; mother, Thelma Tucker Wright; brothers, Wallace Wright, Timothy Wright, half-brother Kenneth W. Wright II; sisters, Gail Kellison, Judy Peters, half-sisters Kathi Wright and Kristi Wright; stepbrother, Marc Norris; stepsister, Debbie Marshall; also many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
A memorial funeral service will be conducted at Oakey's East Chapel 7 p.m. Tuesday.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening at Oakey's East Chapel and Crematory, Bonsack.

Shirley Hiser
Mrs. Shirley Rosalee Payne Hiser, age 50, of 345 E. Fudge Street, died Friday, May 5, 2006, at her residence.
She was the wife of Frank Hiser.
Mrs. Hiser was born July 14, 1955 in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of James H. Payne and Julia Lazor Payne McKinney.
She was a certified nursing assistant and worked as a caregiver.
In addition to her parents, James Payne and Julia Payne McKinney and husband, Frank Hiser, Mrs. Hiser is survived by three sons, John Paul Hiser and Christopher Frank Hiser, both of Covington and Nicholas James Hiser of Fayetteville, N.C.; a daughter, Heather Dawn Hiser of Blacksburg; a granddaughter, Stephanie Leggett of Blacksburg; two brothers, Mike Payne of Florida and Tommy Payne of Indiana; four sisters, Libby Hunter of Crawley, W.Va., Ann Holland of Denton, N.C., Charlotte Holiday of Smoot, W.Va. and Marie Russell of Snowshoe W.Va.
A funeral service will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at Church of Christ with Ken Goodmiller officiating, assisted by Harold Hiser. Interment will follow in Old Amwell Cemetery in Crawley, W.Va.
Pallbearers will be Frank Hiser, John Hiser, Christopher Hiser, Nicholas Hiser, Danny Lawhorn and Andy Kirby.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

Lunora Bradley
HOT SPRINGS - Lunora Messer Bradley, 97, of Warm Springs, died Saturday, May 6, 2006, at Bath Community Hospital.
She was born March 12, 1909, in Mango County, W.Va., a daughter of the late Gidd Messer and Martha Block Messer.
She was the wife of the late William M. “Bill” Bradley, who preceded her in death on April 14, 1997.
She was a homemaker and formerly a cook for the Candle Light Inn in Baltimore, Md. She was a member of Star Bolar United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a son and daughter in law, Jesse and Elaine Bradley of Hot Springs, her daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Bobby Law of Hot Springs, Ardie Robertson of Hot Springs, Ida Faye Weese of Clifton Forge and Elizabeth and Arthur Evans of Towson, Md.; one sister, Nancy Hodge of Warm Springs; 30 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Fred Bradley; one daughter, Rosa Creswell; four brothers, Henry, Lonnie, Gidd and Jesse Messer; and two sisters, Rosa Thompson and Lutisha Copley.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday at 10 a.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Rose officiating.
Interment will be in Jacob Cleek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Walter Davis, Donald Doyle, Guy Ingram Jr., Glenn Robertson, Robert “Buckey” Robertson and Harold Walton.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home.

Laurent Ouimette Sr.
Laurent Joseph Ouimette Sr., 63, of 1515 Dolly Ann Drive, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Alleghany Regional Hospital in Low Moor.
He was born November 16, 1942, in Coaticook, Canada, a son of Arthur Ouimette of Coaticook, Canada and the late Medora Fontaine Ouimette.
In keeping with Mr. Ouimette’s wishes, his remains have been cremated.
The funeral service will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. William M. Hartsfield officiating.
Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends for one hour prior to the service on Sunday.

The Rev. Diallio Paul
The Rev. Diallio DeShea “DD” Paul, 33, of Louisville, passed away Wed., May 3, 2006.
He was an employee at Houston-Johnson, Inc, and a member of Green Castle Baptist Church.
The Rev. “DD” Paul is survived by his wife, Jerrila L Paul; daughter, Makayla Lynn Paul, devoted nephew, Kendrick Sublett; mother, Dorothy Jean Paul, Father, Mickey Paul (Maria); four brothers, two sisters.
Funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Stephen Baptist Church, 1008 S. 15th St. Interment will be at Cave Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11a.m. until– 1p.m. on Monday.
A.D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home, 1300 W. Chestnut St. in charge of arrangements.

Maryetta Ergenbright
Mrs. Maryetta McLaughlin Ergenbright, age 80, of 235 Grey Street, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at her residence.
She was the wife of the late Thurman Ward “Dick” Ergenbright.
Mrs. Ergenbright was born December 12, 1925 in Hot Springs, Bath County, the daughter of the late Archie Y. McLaughlin and Eva Taylor McLaughlin.
She was a graduate of Covington High School and a student of Central Radio and Television School in Central Airlines, Texas. Mrs. Ergenbright was employed as a manager of Sidney’s and Catos where she was a supervisor of 12 Cato stores and opened nine new stores. As a manager, she won and retired the manager’s gold cup for most outstanding Cato store.
Mrs. Ergenbright was a 50 year plus member of First Presbyterian Church where she was a former superintendent, teacher of the Primary Department, and former superintendent of the Bible School. She was a den mother of the Cub Scouts and co-organizer and founder of the Valarose Garden Club where she served all offices. Mrs. Ergenbright was a former president of Jeter PTA and the Alleghany County-Covington PTA Council where she held many offices in both organizations. She was a United Fund Chairman of Covington West, served on the Community Christmas Decoration Contest, and helped with cancer drive collection for many years. Mrs. Ergenbright was an avid arts and crafts person who was the co-chairman of First Annual Arts and Craft Show of Covington Retail Merchant Association.
Mrs. Ergenbright is survived by two sons, Thurman W. “Dickie” Ergenbright, II and wife, Cynthia of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and David Lee Ergenbright and wife, Deborah of Covington; a grandson, Thurman W. “Troy” Ergenbright, III of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; a granddaughter of Jani Leigh Ergenbright Pullin and husband, Michael; seven nephews; five nieces; twelve great nephews; and six great nieces.
In addition to her parents, Archie and Eva Taylor McLaughlin, and husband, Dick Ergenbright, Mrs. Ergenbright was preceded in death by five brothers, David Holmes McLaughlin, A. Normand McLaughlin, R. M. McLaughlin, Edmund E. McLaughlin and Julian M. McLaughlin; three sisters-in-law, Claurice McLaughlin, Ilene Jamison McLaughlin and Katherine Patteson McLaughlin.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jamie Pharr officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Buddy McLaughlin, Normand McLaughlin, Duane McLaughlin, Jimmy McLaughlin, Mac McLaughlin, Stephen McLaughlin, Kevin McLaughlin, Benny Bryant, Gerald Payne and Arlie Taylor.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, Va., 24422 or Covington Fire & Rescue, 435 W. Hawthorne, Covington, Va., 24426

Miriam Rogin
Miriam E. Rogin, 59, died Tuesday, June 6, 2006. She was diagnosed with melanoma skin cancer in July 2004 and fought bravely against the disease.
Miriam Rogin was loved and will be missed by many friends, her family and patients. She will be remembered for her warmth, her kindness, her love of animals, the outdoors, birding, books and travel and for her dedication to being a compassionate doctor. She was a wonderful mother, a caring friend and a dedicated physician. In her final two weeks of life, she also became a loving grandmother.
She was born on May 10, 1947, the daughter of longtime Charleston residents John and Lucille Pianfetti. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a Master's degree in biology before attending Wayne State Medical School where she met and married Glenn Rogin. She and her family settled in Virginia and established a medical practice in Clifton Forge. She became a doctor out of a desire to help others, particularly women, whom she saw being treated insensitively by the medical community. She enjoyed being a doctor and continued to work until a month before her death.
She married Stephen Small and moved back to Charleston four years ago. She resumed her medical practice at the New River Health Clinic where she took great pleasure in the beautiful New River Gorge area.
She was happiest when outdoors and loved hiking on the Appalachian Trail, the Greenbrier River Trail and the Milford Track in New Zealand. She traveled around the world and particularly loved skiing and birding. Hikes with her were often punctuated with frequent stops and delighted comments as she whipped out her binoculars to identify the birds above.
She was preceded in death by a niece, Michelle Guard; husband, Glenn Rogin; and father, John Pianfetti.
Surviving are children, Jonah Rogin of Asheville, N.C., and Leah Rogin-Roper, her husband, Michael Roper, and granddaughter, Rose Rogin-Roper of Flagstaff, Ariz.; husband, Stephen Small of Charleston; mother, Lucille Pianfetti of Charleston; sister, Nancy Guard Evans of El Cerrito, Calif.; her dog, Festus, and her cat, Nigel.
A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston.
Her husband will host an open house dinner at 6:30 p.m. at their home later Sunday evening. They live at Rocky Fork Road, Route 622, Box 126C, next to Baber Agee Church, between Sissonville and Cross Lanes.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Okla., 73123-1718, or the National Audubon Society, Department W, 700 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10003.
Barlow-Bonsall Funeral Home, Charleston, is in charge of arrangements.

Ruby Tingler
Ruby Wolfe Tingler, 90, of 6806 Mill Branch Road, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at her residence.
She was born December 10, 1915, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Leffel B. and Dora Jamison Wolfe.
Mrs. Tingler was a member of Mill Branch Church of God of Prophecy, League of Older Americans with the Boiling Springs Senior Citizens Club, and the Ladies Auxiliary of Curtis A. Smith Post No.1033, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry Tingler, in 1972; one daughter, Madeline Simmons; four brothers, Berlin Wolfe, Page Wolfe, Paris Wolfe and Grover Wolfe; and three grandsons, Ernie Armentrout, Billy Fisher and Troy Tingler.
Surviving are three daughters, Wanda Fisher of Wolfe Creek, W.Va.; Joann Wright and her husband, David, of New Castle; and Arletta Griffith and Willie Miller of Covington; two sons, Donald Tingler and his wife, Mary, of Covington; and Virgil Tingler and his wife, Phyllis, of New Castle; 17 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; three sisters, Izetta Nida of Covington, Leola Wright of Hampton, and Verlie Wilhelm of Clifton Forge; two brothers, Stanford Wolfe of Covington and Gerald Wolfe of Beltsville, Md.; a special friend, Frances Caldwell of Covington; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Nancy Hubbard officiating.
The interment will be made in Lone Star Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Eddie Wright, Davy Wright, Bobby Byer, Jamie Griffith, Ricky Simmons, Steve Tingler, Gary Tingler and Andy Fisher.
Alternate pallbearers will be Donald Fisher and Jimmie Fisher.
Friends may pay their respects at anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends this evening from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

Charlotte Merriam
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. - Charlotte Gillespie Merriam of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Monday, Nov. 7, 2005, after a long illness.
She was born Dec. 31, 1925, in White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.
Mrs. Merriam was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth Maxwell and Frances Morgan Gillespie; and a sister, Marjorie G. Carte.
Surviving are her husband, Allen Merriam; two daughters, Sarah T. Kitchen of Bluegrass, Texas, and Joan C. Oliver of Burkeville, Texas; a son, Richard A. Merriam of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Kenneth T. Gillespie of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.; and six grandchildren.
Prior to her marriage, Charlotte was employed at Burlington Mills in White Sulphur Springs, manager of Gillespie Flower Shop in Hollywood Beach Hotel, Fla., and attended Fairfax Hall School for girls in Waynesboro.
Charlotte was involved in many community projects, including leader of a Girl Scout troop, organizing teen sock hops in White Sulphur Springs, and organizing entertainment at the community house for soldiers recouperated at Ashford General Hospital. She was an active member of Emmanuel Methodist Church in her youth.
She was employed with the Corpus Christi School System until her retirement. She continued her work with young people, girl scouts and the Rainbow Girls. She was an active member of St. Thomas and Martin Episcopal Church.
A memorial service will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, White Sulphur Springs. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Merriam’s name to St. Thomas and Martin Episcopal Church, White Sulphur Springs. Arrangements by Shanklin Funeral Home, White Sulphur Springs.

Jack Montgomery
Jack Wayne Montgomery Sr., 65, of 1303 Cherokee Pl., died this morning, Thursday, July 20, 2006, at Alleghany Regional Hospital, Low Moor.
