Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Wilma Martin
Wilma Marie Fix Martin, 77, of 1310 Concord St., Selma, died this morning, September 1, 2006, at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and being handled by Nicely Funeral Home.

Donnie Robertson
WARM SPRINGS - Donald “Donnie” Lee Robertson, 48, of Warm Springs, died Monday, October 16, 2006, at Hot Springs.
He was born July 8, 1958, in Hot Springs, a son of William “Bill” Robertson and Delcie Mae Buzzard Roberts of Staunton.
Mr. Robertson was a heavy equipment mechanic and operator for F.C. Plecker and Son and was a member of the Harley Hog Association. He loved to ride motorcycles and trucks and loved hunting, especially bear hunting, and being in the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by a special friend, Bo Shrader In addition to his parents, he is survived by his step-father, Gerald Roberts; his companion of 16 years, Pamela “Pam” Thacker of Warm Springs; his children, Randy Pritt, Kaylen and Karlie Pritt of Warm Springs; a foster daughter, Jessica Carter of Warm Springs; a foster grandson, Jezdon “George” Markel Lee Carter of Warm Springs; a sister, Delores Robertson of Richmond and a niece, Whitney Robertson of Richmond.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home officiated by the Rev. Tom Gore. Interment will follow in Warm Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Brinkley, Anthony Lockridge, Curtis Lockridge, Joe Lockridge, Greg Peery, Christopher Plecker, Craig Plecker, J.P. Plecker, Marty Plecker, Ricky Plecker, Travis Plecker and Michael Roberts.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home. John Biggs Jr.

Shirley Jackson
Shirley Slayton Jackson, 69, of 116 Cliffview Drive, died, Tuesday, January 9, 2007, at Alleghany Regional Hospital.
She was born June 15, 1937, in Alleghany County, a daughter of the late Starling Edward and Doris Kimberlin Slayton.
Mrs. Jackson was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed her time with family and friends and loved being a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Calvin Jackson in 1992, and also by two sisters, Sylvia May and Mary Catherine Slayton.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and David Fraley of Covington; four sons and daughters-in-law, David and Linda Jackson of Glasgow, Henry and Jeanne Jackson, Robert and Robin Jackson, and Kevin Jackson and his fiancée, Julie Hoffman; all of Covington; 13 grandchildren, Michael Jackson; Christy Tucker, Chris and Michelle Jackson, Amy and Dennis Markham; Lori and Tim Luders; Robbie Quinlin; April and Dusty Rowland, Todd and Chanda Cook, Steven Anderson and Stacey, Vanessa and Adam Ritchie, Tyler Jackson, Brooke Jackson and Kaitlyne Jackson; two sisters, Phyllis Wallin of Jonesville, Carol Slayton of Covington; one brother, Wayne Slayton of Apache, Okla.; 12 great-grandchildren; special friends, Tommy and Sandy Bostic of Covington; her faithful cat of 13 years, Kiki; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Friends may pay their respects any time at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home, and at other times will be at the residence of her granddaughter, April and Dusty Rowland at 102 Nally’s Circle in Woodland Hills.

Ray Edward Lavender
EAGLE ROCK - Ray Edward Lavender, 68, of Fincastle, died Monday, Jan. 8, 2007.
He was born August 13, 1938, to the late Carl Milton Lavender and Leona Pearl Kimberlin Lavender. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James Lewis Lavender and Billy Thomas Lavender.
Mr. Lavender served with in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He retired from Cardinal Pool and Spas.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Carolyn Letchford Lavender; children, Susan Lavender of Christianburg, Stacey Lee Lavender of Roanoke, Bonnie Cast of Pembroke, Teddy Clark of Bedford, and Amanda Johnson of Fincastle; grandchildren, Raymond Cast and Brittany Lavender; stepgrandchildren, Tommy, Skyler, Eli, and Shawna Sowers; brothers and sister-in-law, Paul Lavender of Covington, Melvin and Doris Lavender of Clifton Forge; sister, Myrtle L. Franklin.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Sunrise Cemetery, Low Moor with the Rev. Elmer D. Clemons officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 pm at the Eagle Rock Chapel of Botetourt Funeral Home, 14777 Church Street.

William Turner
William Donald Turner, formerly of Millboro, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2007, at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.
He attended Watson High School in Covington.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Beverly Elkins
FERRUM - Beverly Loving Elkins, 26, of Ferrum died Saturday, March 24, 2007.
She was a 1998 graduate of Salem High School and was a Pharmacy Technician. She was an ardent animal lover and was a member of the Great Dane and Greyhound Rescue organizations.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Bill Jennings; grandmother Margie Loving and a cousin, Jessee Ashby.
She is survived by her husband, Todd M. Elkins; mother, Jeannie Brown; father Ronald Loving; step-father Robert Brown; sister Shanel Dorton; nephew Joshua Taylor; grandmother, Evelyn Jennings; mother-in-law and father-in-law Judy and Earl Elkins; best friend and cousin, Elsie Monsour; her Great Dane Brenny; several aunts, uncles, cousins other extended family members and many friends.
The funeral service will be held at Oakey’s South Chapel Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Mike Lauridsen officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at Oakey’s South Chapel Wednesday, March 28, 2007 from 2 until 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral arrangements by Oakey’s South Chapel.

Joe Humphries
Walter Garland “Joe” Humphries, 73, of 3810 Upper Rich Patch Road, died, Sunday, March 25, 2007 at the University of Virginia Medical Center at Charlottesville.
He was born June 26, 1933 in Alleghany County, a son of the late Samuel “Abe” and Bertha Tucker Humphries.
Mr. Humphries retired from Acadia, Inc. as a material handler after 34 years of service. He was a life long farmer and cattleman in the Rich Patch area.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Surviving are his wife Nadine Craft Humphries of Covington; a son Garland Humphries and his wife Jo Anne of Buchanan ; two grandsons, Aaron Humphries and Ethan Humphries, both of Buchanan ; two brothers, Wallace Humphries and Wade Humphries, both of Covington; two sisters, Mary Persinger and Maggie Humphries, both of Covington and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Fisher officiating.
The interment will be made in the Smith Family Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Judd Smith, Jeffrey Smith, Chris Persinger, Dale Jackson, Woody Smith, David Ross, Leslie “Dubbie” Humphries and Lance Craft. Alternates will be Jackie Fridley, Ronnie Humphries and Travis Humphries.
Friends may pay their respects anytime at Arritt Funeral Home. The family will receive their friends this evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Peggy Boswell
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. - Miss Peggy Ellawise Boswell, age 80, of White Sulphur Springs, W. Va., died today at Greenbrier Valley Medical Center in Fairlea, W. Va.
Miss Boswell was born August 28, 1926 in Cass, W. Va., the daughter of the late Roderick A. Boswell and Hettie McDermott Boswell.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and are being handled by Loving Funeral Home.

Mary Johnson
Mrs. Mary Alice May Johnson, age 79, of Valley Ridge, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Clarence Ivan Johnson.
Mrs. Johnson was born September 7, 1927 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Moses M. May and Mary Pearl Byer May Newcomer. A lifetime member of this community, she was a homemaker. Mrs. Johnson loved working in the yard and was an avid reader. She enjoyed collecting Longaberger baskets.
In addition to her parents, Moses M. May and Mary Pearl Byer May Newcomer and her husband, Clarence Ivan Johnson, Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred May Bartley on February 15, 2005
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two daughters, Mary Melissa J. “Missy” Hendrick and husband, Lynn of Roanoke and Sheilah J. “Shelly” Michie of Selma; three grandchildren, Shawn M. Michie, Brandon L. Hendrick and Ashley B. Michie; one great-grandson, Nathanial J. “Nate” Michie; and one sister, Laura M. Guth and husband, James of Covington.
A private service was held today with the Rev. Thurmond G. Ayers officiating. Interment followed in Alleghany Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Lynn C. Hendrick, Shawn M. Michie, Brandon L. Hendrick, James E. Guth, Johnathan K. Simpson, Randolph W. Downey and Michael P. Michie.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormick Blvd, Clifton Forge, VA 24422 or Mountain Regional Hospice, P.O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.

Steven Carson "Steve" Bower
Steven Carson “Steve” Bower, Age 58, of 426 East Trout Street, Covington, VA, died this morning (July 13, 2002) in Alleghany Regional Hospital.
Mr. Bower was born June 23, 1944 in Augusta County a son of the late Odell and Dorothy Harris Bower.
He was a graduate of Dabney S. Lancaster Community College and Radford University, worked as an Emergency Services Coordinator for the Alleghany Highlands Community Services Board and served in the US Air Force. He attended the Covington Bible Church, was a member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge # 1065, Millboro Masonic Lodge # 28 AF and AM, Scottish Rite Bodies of the Roanoke Valley, Kazim Shriners, and Clifton Forge and Hot Springs Shrine Clubs.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Beth Hicks Bower of Covington, VA; a son and daughter in law: Chase and Gina Bower of Clifton Forge, VA; three sisters: Barbara Campbell of Stuarts Draft, VA, Brenda Ham of Raphine ( Stuarts Draft ), VA, and Stella Campbell of Stuarts Draft, VA; a grandson: Trever Bower; two step daughters: Heather Dameron of Wilmington, NC and Amber Fox of Tamaqua, PA; and two step grandchildren: Roger and Richard Muterspaugh; a special companion “Miss Effie”; a sister in law: Sylvia Bower, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: Jack and Farrell Bower.
A funeral service will be conducted Tuesday - July 16, 2002 at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, VA with the Rev. Howard Merrell officiating. Interment will follow Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 PM at Augusta Memorial Park in Fishersville, VA.
Nephews will serve as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Monday Evening from 7:00 until 8:30 PM at Nicely Funeral Home and at other times at the residence 426 East Trout Street, Covington, VA.
The family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the American Diabetes Association, Always and Forever Memorial and Honor Program, Attn: ADA Web, PO Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720.
Masonic Rites to be conducted by Millboro Masonic Lodge #28 AF &AM at 6:30 PM atNicely Funeral Home.
