Ruby Wilson
Bealeton resident

Ruby May Hodgson Wilson, 95, of Bealeton died March 1, 1998, at Rose Hill Nursing Home.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Marshall on July 16, 1902, the daughter of the late William Theodore Hodgson and Ella Anderson Payne Hodgson. She was preceded in death by three sons: Scott Wilson, Elmer Wilson and Theodore Wilson; a sister, Myrtle Richardson; and two brothers, Wendell W. Hodgson and Barton Hodgson.

She is survived by 11 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 7, at Moser Funeral Home in Warrenton. The Rev. Randy West and the Rev. Wyman Hall will lead a funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at Orlean Baptist Church. Interment will be in Orlean Cemetery.

Peter Tibbs Jr.
Maintenance worker

Peter Willis Tibbs Jr., 70, of Middleburg died Feb. 23, 1998.

Mr. Tibbs was a veteran of World War II. He had worked as the maintenance engineer for Middleburg Community Center since 1948. He was a deacon of Shiloh Baptist Church and active in the Northern Virginia Baptist Association. He also served as a Sunday School teacher at Shiloh.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine Tibbs; two sisters, Annie Washington and Fannie Pelham, of Arlington; and a brother, William Tibbs of Middleburg.

The Rev. Herman Nelson led a funeral service Feb. 27 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Middleburg. Interment was in Solon Cemetery.

Alexander B. Hume Jr.
Newspaper reporter
Alexander Britton "Sandy" Hume Jr., 28, of Arlington, died Feb. 22, 1998, at his home.

Mr. Hume worked from 1993 to 1995 as a county government reporter at The Fauquier Times-Democrat. He since had worked as a reporter at The Hill, a newspaper in Washington, D.C.

A graduate of Middlebury College in Vermont, he was born in Washington, a son of television journalist Brit Hume and Clare Stoner Hume.

Survivors include his father, a Delaplane resident; his mother, a Bethesda, Md., resident; a sister, Virginia Powell Hume, and a brother, Louis Stoner Hume.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Joseph Gawler's Sons Funeral Home at 5130 Wisconsin Ave. in Washington. A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27, at Christ Church in Georgetown. Interment will be private.

Charles Holmes
Heavy equipment operator

Charles Edward Holmes, 68, of Amissville died Feb. 21, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Holmes was born April 7, 1929, in Amissville, a son of the late Irvin Hillary and Annie Mae James Holmes.

He was a self-employed equipment operator. Mr. Holmes was a member of the Amissville United Methodist Church, where he served as a member of the board of trustees. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Holmes.

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Irma Hitt Holmes; two daughters, Ann H. Simmons of Amissville and Connie H. Peterson of Marshall; a sister, Dora H. Clatterbuck of Amissville; a brother, Earl Holmes of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and three grandchildren.

The Rev. Nancy B. White led a funeral service Feb. 24 at Amissville United Methodist Church. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Virginia Risdon
Warrenton resident

Virginia Maxhimer Risdon, 80, of Warrenton died Feb. 18, 1998, in Warrenton.

Mrs. Risdon was born Feb. 7, 1918, in Warrenton, the daughter of the late Albert Maxhimer and Genevieve Riley Maxhimer.

She is survived by her husband Willis P. Risdon of Warrenton; a son, Willis P. Risdon Jr. of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Genevieve Doss of Warrenton; three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

The Rev. J. Richard Winter led a graveside service Feb. 21 at Warrenton Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 246 E. Davis St., Culpeper, Va. 22701.

James Corum
Haymarket student

James "Jamie" Garfield Corum, 14, of Haymarket died Feb. 18, 1998, at Prince William Hospital.

He was born March 16, 1983.

He is survived by his mother, Peggy Corum, and a brother, Warren Napper, both of Haymarket; his maternal grandmother, Marie Napper of Aldie; and two sisters, Naomi Napper of Bethesda, Md., and Shelly Carter of Baltimore.

Pastor Decker Tapscott Sr. led a funeral service Feb. 24 at Faith Christian Church and International Outreach Center. Interment was in Mount Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery in Aldie.

Sterling Williams
Amissville carpenter

Sterling J. Williams, 60, of Amissville died Feb. 18, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Williams was born Sept. 11, 1937. He was a carpenter.

He is survived by two daughters, Kimberley A. Richards and Jacqueline V. Quarles, both of Culpeper; three sons: Larry Twyman of Colorado, Anthony D. Williams of Linden and Rory Williams of Amissville; two sisters, Pauline W. Carter of Crest Hill and Mathie L. Anderson of Washington, D.C.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pastor Herman Washington Jr. led a funeral service Feb. 23 at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Amissville. Interment was in Trough Hill Baptist Church in Crest Hill.

Morris Breeden
Cement mason

Morris E. Breeden, 74, of Amissville died Feb. 20, 1998, at Warrenton Overlook Care Center.

Mr. Breeden was born May 19, 1923, in Rappahannock County, the son of the late Guy L. Breeden and Linda Breeden. He was a cement mason with Local 891. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lehman Breeden.

He is survived by three sons: David L. Breeden of Rixeyville, Terry C. Breeden and Perry Breeden, both of Amissville; a sister, Vera Hughes of Alexandria; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will take place at a later date.

Ada Brooks
Upperville resident

Ada Marie Brooks, 94, of Upperville died Feb. 21, 1998.

Mrs. Brooks was the widow of the late Henry Brooks Sr.

She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Foster of Washington, D.C.; three sons: Norman Brooks and Henry Brooks Jr., both of Washington, D.C., and James Brooks of Upperville; 15 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren and 29 great-great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Philip Lewis led a funeral service Feb. 25 at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church in Upperville. Interment was in West View Cemetery.

James Eberly
Engineer

James Rowland Eberly, 75, of Gainesville died Feb. 22, 1998, at Fauquier Hospital.

Mr. Eberly was born in Seattle on Jan. 27, 1923, the son of the late Howard James Eberly and Marybelle Rinehart Eberly. He was a veteran of World War II and had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a pilot and instructor. He worked as an engineer. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Warrenton.

He is survived by a son, Jay Howard Eberly of Lincoln; a daughter, Carol Ward of Warrenton; and three grandchildren.

A graveside service will take place at 3 p.m. Thursday, March 5, at Arlington National Cemetery.
