Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

RANDOLPH D. CRAIG
Randolph Daniel Craig, 72, of Collinsville, died Friday, January 24, 2003, at his home.
He was born in Patrick County on September 27, 1930, and was a son of the late Jasper W. and Dolly Washburn Craig. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton Edward Jefferson and Carnell W. Craig.
He was the owner/salesman of Little Auto Sales.
Surviving are three daughters, Blanche C. Foley, Cathy A. Craig and Karen Staples, all of Martinsville; one son, Wiley Stevens Craig of Martinsville; one sister, Avie Craig Peak of Bassett; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Norris Funeral Services chapel by the Revs. Douglas T. Ramsey and Kenny Daniels. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Jerry Perdue, Bill Peak, Pete Conway, Craig Campbell, Tim Dalton, Tony Peak, Larry Peak and Daniel Craig.

BEATRICE A. EDWARDS
Beatrice Agee Edwards, 88, of Martinsville and formerly of Ridgeway, died Sunday, December 22, 2002, at Blue Ridge Manor in Martinsville.
She was born in Floyd County on November 9, 1914 and was a daughter of the late Charlie and Ocie Nowell Agee. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Darrell Edwards; four sisters, Melissa Agee Goad, Lillie Agee Jarrell, Bessie Agee Bishop and Bertie Agee Lovell; and four brothers, Wilson Agee, Eslie Agee, John Agee and Lance Agee.
She retired after working as a private duty nurse for 25 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Martinsville and was a member of the church's senior citizen group.
Surviving are two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 23, 2002, at Community Funeral Services chapel by the Rev. Calvin Holdren. Burial was in the Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church cemetery in Meadows of Dan.

BETTY M. HANDY
Betty Lea Marshall Handy, 55, of Meadows of Dan, died Friday, January 24, 2003, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital in Stuart.
She was born in Patrick County on January 17, 1948 to the late Alva Lee and Mary Bowman Marshall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde N. "Pete" Handy; and two children, Lonnie Nathaniel Handy and Carrie Ann Handy.
She attended Riverside Tabernacle.
Surviving are two daughters, Tanya Dalton of Meadows of Dan and Tammy Handy of Patrick Springs; three sons, Ronnie Handy of Meadows of Dan, Harry Handy of Patrick Springs and Daniel Handy of Meadows of Dan; two brothers, Otis Odell Marshall of Belle, W.Va., and Frankie Marshall of Meadows of Dan; one sister, Neda Marshall of Meadows of Dan; and 11 grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart with the Revs. Randy Rippey and Odell Quesenberry officiating. Burial was in the Handy-Lawson cemetery in Meadows of Dan.
Pallbearers were Dewey Bowman, Melvin Bowman, Justin Marshall, Danny Johnson, Dwayne Hamm, Ricky Handy, Jessie Sehen, Eddie Pendleton, Lonnie Howell and Billy Ray.

OSCAR A. HARRIS
Elder Oscar Allen Harris, 90, of Elamsville Rd., Woolwine, died Friday, January 24, 2003, at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart.
He was born in Floyd County on January 2, 1913 and was a son of the late Jethro and Ella Moore Harris. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mamie Harris and Alma Baker; and four brothers, Oden James Harris, Archie Leslie Harris, Miles Asa Harris and Newton Carlis Harris.
He served for over 53 years as a Primitive Baptist minister. The churches he had served included Indian Creek, Jack's Creek, Bethel, New River, Meadow View, and Danville Primitive Baptist Church. He was a moderator for the New River Association.
Harris also worked as a sawmiller, contractor and clockmaker.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Linda Belle Surratt Harris of the home; one daughter, Linda Hatcher of Manassas; four sons, Miles Harris of Stuart, Leon Harris of Roanoke, James Dale Harris and Mavin Harris, both of Woolwine; two sisters, Pauline Hodges of Willis and Leta High of Floyd; 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Jack's Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Elders Danny Parker, Milton Gunter and Richard Hurst officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Tommy Harris, Eddie Harris, Tracy Harris, Michael Belcher, Terry Harris, Vincent Hatcher, Bobby Harris, Victor Hatcher and Jonathan Brown.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 122, Woolwine, Va. 24185; or to the Jack's Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Linda Midkiff, 393 Apple Tree Drive, Woolwine, Va. 24185.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

JACI M. MABE
Infant Jaci Michelle Mabe died Tuesday, January 21, 2003, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount.
She was preceded in death by a grandfather, J.C. Mabe.
Surviving are her parents, Larry and Sherri Wright Mabe of Woolwine; one sister, Briana Lynn Mabe of the home; her grandparents, Claudia Lee Mabe of Woodlawn and Ricky and Shirley Wright of Ferrum.
A graveside service was held Saturday at the Chaney family cemetery. The Rev. Ronnie Gore officiated.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

MARY H. PACK
Mary Holt Pack, 81, of Lawsonville, N.C., died Thursday, January 23, 2003 at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Patrick County on August 31, 1921 and was a daughter of the late John and Mattie Inman Holt. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Harry Pack; two sons, Harry Pack Jr. and John Pack; a son-in-law, Clarence Pruitt; and three brothers, Ed Holt, Joe Holt and Claude Inman.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are seven daughters, Lucille Pruitt, Ada Martin, Clarabelle Inman, Joann Holt, Barbara Jean Holt, Nellie Mae Pack and Susie Pack; four sons, Louis Pack, Irvin Pack, Bill Pack and Arthur Pack, all of Lawsonville; 21 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home chapel in Lawsonville with the Revs. Joe Beck and Roger Brown officiating. Burial was in the Aaron's Corner Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jeff Martin, David Pruitt, Scottie Webster, Chris Bowman, Keith Howell, Chad Moles, Timmy Inman and Marcus Cherry.

LACY M. PUCKETT
The Rev. Lacy Millard Puckett, 83, of Greensboro, N.C., died Wednesday, January 22, 2003.
He was born in Ararat and was a son of the late Wilson and Victoria Bowman Puckett.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II. He was a retired minister of the Pentecostal Holiness Church (Cornerstone Ministries), and served as pastor in Ararat, Roanoke, Chatham, and Henderson, Greensboro and Kernersville in North Carolina.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Eunice Hall Puckett of the home; four daughters, Hilda Mosley of Archdale, N.C., Brenda Moore of Greensboro, Donna Daniel of Kernersville and Sharon Hunt of Greensboro; two sons, William Puckett of Mount Airy, N.C., and the Rev. Oral Puckett of Greensboro; one sister, Lottie Puckett of Ararat; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home-Vanstory Chapel. Burial was in Guilford Memorial Park.

GEORGE C. TERRY
George Camden Garfield Terry, 81, of Bassett, died Saturday, January 25, 2003, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born January 21, 1922 in Patrick County and was a son of the late John Chap and Mary Ella Lawless Terry. He was also preceded in death by a half-sister, Pauline Hooker; three brothers, J. Allen Terry, John W. Terry and Sherman Terry; and a half-brother, Eugene Hooker.
He was retired from DuPont with 37 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Effie Martin Terry of the home; three daughters, Janice T. Shively and Joyce T. Merrix, both of Bassett and Myra T. Pavlick of Potomac, Md.; four grandchildren; one stepgrandson and one stepgreat-grandson.
Funeral services were held Monday at Collins Funeral Home chapel with Elder Milton Gunter officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Stephen Pavlick, Clint Conner, Leon Terry, Joseph Terry, Matthew Terry, Clinton Conner, Barry Shively and Arthur Haynes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bassett Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 510, Bassett, Va. 24055.

MAMIE L. BALILES
Mamie L. Baliles, 80, of Ellisville, Mo., and formerly of Patrick County, died Saturday, March 15, 2003, at the St. John's Mercy Medical Center of St. Louis, Mo.
She was born in Lippan, Tex., on May 15, 1922 to the late James Howard and Gatsy Sears Howard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Guy C. Baliles.
She was a homemaker.
Surviving are three daughters, Patricia B. Stultz of Fredericksburg, Nancy L. Raley of House Springs, Mo., and Marie E. Luten of Belton, Mo.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Sycamore Baptist Church in Woolwine. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Arrangements are by Howell Funeral Home in Stuart.

DENNIS J. BOWMAN
Dennis Jule Bowman, 40, of Sandy Ridge, N.C., died Thursday, April 3, 2003, as the result of a logging accident.
He was born in Patrick County on December 30, 1962. He was preceded in death by his father, R.L. Jackson Bowman.
Surviving are his wife, Julie Dalton Bowman of the home; three daughters, Susan Renee Bowman and April Denise Bowman, both of Claudville, and Mollie Rhiana Bowman of the home; his mother and stepfather, Barbara Bowman Wilson and Warren Wilson of Claudville; six brothers, Eugene Bowman and Roger Bowman, both of Mount Airy, N.C., and Mike Bowman, Clinton Bowman, Sammy Bowman and Lonnie Bowman, all of Claudville; four sisters, Shelby Willard and Teresa Pack, both of Claudville, Cindy Land of Stoneville, N.C., and Martha Bowman of Reidsville, N.C.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart by the Revs. David Heath and J.R. Shelton and Brother Daniel Handy. Burial was in the Pack family cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bruce Land, Dennis Dalton, Chad Williams, Clyde Evans, Dean Rigges, Dewey Bowman, Clyde Evans III, Kenneth Bowman and James Dalton.

JOHN CASSELL
John "J.D." Cassell, 77, of Bassett, died Friday, April 4, 2003, at the VA Medical Center in Salem.
He was born September 21, 1925 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Billy and Roxie Campbell Cassell. He was preceded in death by nine brothers, Willie, Carter, Tommy, Harley, Amos, Robert, Roy, Lenlie and Otis Cassell; and three sisters, Mary Clifton, Annie Doss and Lillie Cassell.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a member of Goodwill Primitive Baptist Church in Ridgeway, where he served as a deacon, treasurer, clerk, secretary and trustee.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Chaney Cassell of the home; six daughters, Carolyn Hodges, Jean Rorrer, Darlene Hancock, Joan Crespo, Debbie Roberts and Toria Moore, all of Bassett; one son, Ted Cassell of Bassett; 20 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Old Center Primitive Baptist Church. Elder Paul S. Clark and Deacons Perry Brown and Jesse Hutchinson officiated. Staff Sgt. Lewis conducted military honors. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Chris Workman, Barry Hodges, Tony Hodges, Joey Brown, Mike Rorrer, Justin Cassell, Rusty Nester and Adam Brown.
Arrangements were by Bassett Funeral Service.

JANET H. ELDER
Janet Hatcher Elder, 48, of Forest, died Thursday, April 3, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital.
She was born June 26, 1954 in Floyd and was a daughter of David Hatcher Jr. and Madeline Puckett Hatcher, both of Patrick Springs.
She was a registered nurse and was employed by Virginia Baptist Hospital. She was a member of Timberlake Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Douglas H. Elder of Forest; one son, Jeremy Douglas Elder of Lynchburg; one daughter, Jessica L. Elder of Forest; and three brothers, Lane Hatcher, Gary Hatcher and Daryl Hatcher.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Timberlake Baptist Church by Pastor James H. Alley. Burial was in Virginia Memorial Park.

KATY H. FINNEY
Katy Hall Finney, 85, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at her home.
She was born August 12, 1917 in the Fayerdale area of Patrick County and was a daughter of the late John Peter and Halie Ann Miles Hall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Cabel Dillard "Jack" Finney; a sister, Margaret Hall Dillion; and two brothers, Benson Hall and Brant Hall.
She retired from Bassett-Walker Knitting Co. in 1982 and did volunteer work at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was a member of County Line Christian Church.
Surviving are one daughter, Ruth Finney Wade of Martinsville; one sister and one brother, Earl Hall Dodson and Moyer "Pete" Hall; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services. Ministers J.D. Hunt and Dean Ashby officiated. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Chip Wade, Richard Reynolds, Dwayne Puckett, Marvin Scearce, Jimmy Wade, Billy Perrow, David Finney and Carl Eanes.
Memorial contributions may be made to County Line Christian Church Building Fund, 12711 Chatham Rd., Axton, Va. 24054; or to the Leukemia Society, Virginia Chapter, Salem, Va. 24153.

REBECCA B. GAY
Rebecca "Becky" Bentley Gay, 60, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Saturday, April 5, at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Birmingham, Ala., on October 28, 1942 and was a daughter of the late Joe Melvin and Rebecca Qualls Bentley.
She was a graduate of Samford University in Alabama and retired from Cross Creek/Russell Manufacturing. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi sorority and Surry Arts Council in Mount Airy.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy where she was active in the church choir.
Surviving are her husband, Wayne Gay of the home; four daughters, Catherine E. Burns and Rebecca V. Burns, both of New York, N.Y., Katrina Gay Bowman of Clemmons, N.C., and Jessica J. Gay of Opelika, Ala.; one son, Michael D. Gay of Claudville; one sister, the Rev. Jo Bentley Reece of Nashville, Tenn.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Mount Airy with the Revs. Wayne Reece and Steve Lindsley officiating. A graveside service will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Macedonia Methodist Church cemetery in Andalusia, Ala.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Rd. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30329.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy and Foreman-Brown Funeral Home in Alabama.
