Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

LAURA E. JONES
Laura Ellen Jones, 47, of Woolwine, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at her home.
She was born in California on March 12, 1958 and was a daughter of Jonesy and Mae Johnson Jones.
She was a self-employed cosmetologist.
Surviving are one brother, Robert Lee Jones of Las Cruz, N.M., and a half-brother, Johnnie Lee Jones of Pahrump, Nev.
Services will be private.
Arrangements are by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

NORMAN J. MARSHALL
Norman J. Marshall, 84, of Terry's Mill Rd., Meadows of Dan, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Laurel Fork.
He was born in Franklin County on October 14, 1920 to the late Richard and Mary Marshall.
He attended William and Mary College and was a teacher at Hillsville High School. He served in the U.S. Army and attended Reed Island Springs Baptist Church.
Surviving are a host of cousins and special friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart with the Rev. Norman Montgomery officiating. Burial, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard, was in the Barnard family cemetery.
Pallbearers were members of the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard.

WILLIAM H. MONTGOMERY
William Harley Montgomery, 76, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
He was born April 13, 1929 in Surry County, N.C., and was a son of the late George Everette Montgomery and Mattie Lee Branson McMillian. He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Ruth Montgomery, and his stepfather, Arnold McMillian.
He was retired from Claude Golding Excavation and was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Lola Frankie Taylor Montgomery of the home; four daughters, Peggy Ann Vernon and Harlene Harrell, both of Mount Airy, Jean Harrell of Ararat, and Sue Swift of Mount Airy; one son, Frank Montgomery of Mount Airy; one sister, Virginia Greenwood of Sarasota, Fla.; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Funeral services were held Monday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Mount Airy. The Revs. Tom Miss and Junior Easter officiated. Burial was in Oakdale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Amazing Grace Baptist Church, 1053 Blevins Store Road, Mount Airy, N.C. 27030.

IRIS F. PUCKETT
Iris Freeman Puckett, 75, of Five Forks Rd., Stuart, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at R.J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Henry County on September 30, 1929 to the late Harvey and Clara Harbour Freeman.
She was a member of Liberty Primitive Baptist Church and retired from United Elastic Corporation with over 42 years of service.
Surviving is her husband, Paul Akers Puckett of the home.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart by Elder John Wingfield and David Wright. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Keith Puckett, Tom Puckett, C.W. Puckett, Travis Jordan, J.A. Pendleton, Troy Harbour, Jonathan Wilson and William Hines.
Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Primitive Baptist Church, 1131 Five Forks Rd., Stuart, Va. 24171; or to Hospice of Patrick County, 835 Woodland Drive, Suite 101, Stuart, Va. 24171.

ESTELLE H. STODA
Estelle Hall Stoda, formerly of Patrick County, died April 25, 2005, at her home in Annandale.
She was born in Patrick County on July 31, 1935 to the late Eleazar C. and Addie Adams Hall. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Claude E. Hall.
Survived are her husband of 32 years, Frank W. Stoda of the home; one sister, Lois Hall Jones of Annandale; one aunt; four nieces and two nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were conducted April 29 by the Rev. Suzanne Vance of Annandale United Methodist Church, at the Demaine Funeral Chapel in Springfield. Burial was in Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax.
Memorial contributions in her name can be made to the American Heart Association or the American Diabetic Association.

CAROLYN B. STOWE
Carolyn Belcher Stowe, 53, of Belcher Mountain Rd., Woolwine, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born on January 27, 1952 in Patrick County and was a daughter of Lorna Belcher of Woolwine and the late Archie Owen Belcher. she was also preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Phillips.
She had worked for CMI in Stuart.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Ronald Wayne Stowe of the home; one sister, Fern Soyars of Stuart; her father and mother-in-law, Melvin and Marjorie Stowe of Stuart; two brothers-in-law; three nieces and two nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with the Rev. Curtis Hall and Elder Donnie Conner officiating. Burial was in the Jack's Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Cleston Phillips, Brian Phillips, Steve Harbour, Ricky Stowe, Ronnie Barbour and Eddie Belcher.

MAZIE L. VIA
Mazie Lawson Via, 86, of Via Farm Lane, Patrick Springs, died Sunday, June 12, 2005, at her home.
She was born January 12, 1919 in Patrick County to the late Abie H. and Bessie Nelson Lawson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, three brothers and a stepgrandson.
She was a homemaker and was a member and past president of the Home Demonstration Club. She was a past president of the PTA and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church where she had held many positions.
Surviving are her husband of 68 years, Willie F. Via of the home; two daughters, Mary Paige Via of Williamsburg and Elizabeth Via Kolinski of Patrick Springs; three sons, Clyde Nelson, Warren Nelson and Wilford Nelson; two sisters, Lorene L. Lawrence of Spencer and Carroll E. Lawson of Stuart; one brother, Lowell H. Lawson of Stuart; one granddaughter; two stepgrandchildren and many other extended family members.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Salem United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Critz Baptist Church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, c/o Teresa Nelson, 146 Taylor Rd., Stuart, Va. 24171.
Arrangements are by Howell Funeral Home in Stuart.

MARTIN L. WILLIAMS
Martin L. Williams, 78, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital in Rocky Mount.
He was born June 8, 1927 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Henry Butler Williams and Elva Mae Martin Williams; his wife of 46 years, Sadie Flippen Williams; a daughter, Patricia Mae Williams; and four brothers, Henry Williams, Richard Williams, Davis Williams and Lawrence Williams.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of AMVETS. He had worked for 30 years for Fieldcrest Mills and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are three daughters, Sandra June Williams of Collinsville, and Vicki Lee Prater and Martie A. Hamilton, both of Bassett; one son, Larry W. Williams of Sandy Ridge, N.C.; one brother, Berkley M. Williams of Martinsville; two sisters, Jaqueline Patton of Jacksonville, Fla., and Geraldine Nolden of Fayetteville, N.C.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday at Roselawn Chapel Funeral Home by the Rev. J.D. Harmon. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.

MATTIE R. CRAIG
Mattie R. Craig, 71, of Stuart, died Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at her home.
She was born in Patrick County on May 19, 1934 and was a daughter of the late Benjamin and Pearl Craig.
She was a member of Goodwill Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Danny Craig, Ronnie Craig and Kenny Craig, all of Bassett; four daughters, Carolyn Lawless and Darlene Craig, both of Stuart, Frances Shelton of Bassett and Becky Lawson of Stuart; two brothers, Curtis Craig and Martinsville and Calvin Craig of Fieldale; three sisters, Edna Martin of Patrick Springs, and Vera Slate and Myrtle both of North Carolina; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday at Goodwill Baptist Church with Pastor David Bishop Sr. officiating. Burial was in the County Line Church of God of Prophecy cemetery.
Pallbearers were Thomas Shelton, Kenny Craig, Ronnie Via, Donnie Lewis, Tim Edmonds, Mike Edmonds, Kevin Shelton and Danny Craig.
Arrangements were by Bassett Funeral Services.

MERLIE M. GRIFFITH
Merlie Jewel Morrison Griffith, 89, of Woolwine, died Friday morning, June 17, at R.J. Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Stuart after a short illness.
She was born June 30, 1915 in Woolwine and was a daughter of James Abe Morrison and Sallie May Craig Morrison. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Earl A. Griffith; two children, Richard Eugene Griffith and Lillian Frances Griffith; three brothers, Albert, Tony and Thomas Morrison; and two sisters, Avis Morrison DeHart and Susie Morrison Rorrer.
Survivors include two sons, William P. (Bill) Griffith and wife Dotty of Woolwine; Bruce A. Griffith and wife Cindy of Stuart; two daughters, Lena Griffith Martin and husband Linwood of Woolwine; and Linda Griffith Dunlap and husband Douglas of Woolwine; 11 grandchildren, Jackie Griffith Belcher and husband Harless of Buffalo Ridge; William P. ("Bud") Griffith and wife Theresa of Woolwine; Jessica Griffith and Adam Martin, both of Woolwine; Amanda Martin Hunt and husband Tim, of Martinsville; Kara Griffith Ward and husband Bruce of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Talley Griffith of Stuart; Matthew Dunlap and wife Whitney of Fort Campbell, Ky., Ian Dunlap of Quantico; and Colin and Megan Dunlap of Woolwine; 13 great-grandchildren, Mike Hall and wife Carmen, of Bassett; Alison Hall Harris and husband Eddie of Floyd; Wesley Belcher of Buffalo Ridge, Brad Hopkins and Beth Hopkins of Woolwine; Alex and Sydney Martin of Woolwine; Marlee and Mattie Hunt of Martinsville; Emily and Kaleigh Griffith of Stuart; Mason and Connor Ward of Winston-Salem; two step-great-grandchildren, Ian Ward of Wilmington, N.C., and Kaitlin Ward of Winston-Salem; two great-great-grandchildren, Danielle Harris of Floyd and Austin Carlisle of Laurinburg, N.C.; one brother, Richard Morrison and wife Viola of Woolwine; two sisters, Ruth Belcher of Stuart and JoAnn Hylton and husband Robert of Woolwine, and a sister-in-law, Rosebud Morrison of Stuart.
The funeral was held Saturday, June 18, at 2 p.m. at the Woolwine United Methodist Church in Woolwine with Rev. Patricia Stover and Tim Hunt officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bud Griffith, Mike Hall, Ian Dunlap, Matthew Dunlap, Colin Dunlap, Talley Griffith, Alex Martin, Adam Martin, Ian Ward, Brad Hopkins and Wesley Belcher.
Moody Funeral Home in Stuart was in charge of arrangements.

PAMELA C. JORDAN
Pamela Kay Campbell Jordan, 56, of Tyler, Tex., died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at her home.
She was born October 7, 1948 in Martinsville and was a daughter of Cassie K. Campbell McPeak of Meadows of Dan and the late Herbert Jackson Campbell. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilson Eldridge (Buddy) Campbell.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Jollo Jordan of the home; one daughter, Kimberly Johnson of White House, Tex.; one son, Richard Lee Turner of Tyler; two brothers, Wayne Milton Campbell of Eden, N.C., and Randy M. Campbell of Arlington, Tex.; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Thursday in Texas.

LIESELOTTE V. LYONS
Lieselotte Van Basshuissen Lyons, 67, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Saturday, June 11, 2005, at Northern Hospital of Surry County.
She was born on June 19, 1937 in Bad Nauheim, Germany, and was a daughter of the late Heinrick and Elise Del Monte Van Basshuissen.
She was a homemaker and was of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are her husband, Russell Patrick Lyons of the home; two daughters, Ramona Haubrich of Elkin, N.C., and Evelyn King of Claudville; one son, Patrick Lyons of Mount Airy; and six grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, June 15, at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Mount Airy.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

DONALD L. SHIVELY
Donald Lee "Duck" Shively, 56, of Bassett, died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Henry County to the late Dewey Daniel Shively and Madeline Koger Shively of Bassett. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Daniel Shively.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are one daughter, Melissa R. Shively of Bassett; two sisters, Bernice Setliff of Henry and Rebecca Wright of Spencer; and one brother, Paul L. Shively of Bassett.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Lewis Vass officiating. Burial will be in the Old Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

MARY C. WILLIAMS
Mary Audrey Coleman Williams, 91, of Stoneville, N.C., died Sunday, June 19, 2005, at Walnut Cove Health Care.
She was born May 13, 1914 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Creed and Hester Lawrence Coleman. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Milton Williams in 1980; and seven brothers, Tom Coleman, Bob Coleman, Henry Coleman, Charlie Coleman, Siguer Coleman, Harry Coleman and Hardy Coleman.
She was a homemaker and was a member of Sandy Ridge Christian Church where she was a member of the choir and the Five Alive gospel group.
Surviving are one daughter, Juanita W. Martin and husband Noel of Stoneville; two sons, Arthur Williams and wife Janie of Sandy Ridge, N.C., and David Williams and wife Donna of Stoneville; five grandchildren, Debbie (Ernest Ray) Shelton, Frank (Deneen) Williams, Timmy (Rhonda) Martin, Shelia Williams, Sean Williams; and nine great-grandchildren, Deborah, Sarah, Kayla, Judith, Rebecca, Wayne, Caleb, Jon and Gracie Rae; and one great-great-grandchild, Hannah McCandless.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Sandy Ridge Christian Church with Ministers James Rhodes and James Jordan officiating. Burial was in the Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sandy Ridge Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Cleo Ferguson, 1553 NC Hwy. 770, Sandy Ridge, N.C. 27046.
Arrangements were by Colonial Funeral Home of Madison, N.C.

LILLIAN H. WIMBISH
Lillian Hancock Wimbish, 84, of Martinsville, died Friday, June 17, 2005, at Beverly Healthcare.
She was born on August 14, 1920 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late King and Mattie Adams Hancock. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Q. Wimbish; a son, George Larry Wimbish; two sisters, Ethel H. Rea and Frances H. Schunke; and seven brothers, Walter G. Hancock, Lemly Hancock, William "Bill" Hancock, Harvey E. Hancock, Curtis E. Hancock, Homer Hancock and Bernard E. Hancock.
She was retired from Bassett Walker Knitting Company with 26 years service. She was a member of Blackberry Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir and Women's Mission Union and was a former Sunday school treasurer.
Surviving are two daughters, Nancy P. Holcomb of Collinsville and Jean W. Klinkert of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two sons, W. Jerry Wimbish of Stanleytown and Jim Wimbish of Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Virginia J. Wahnee of Newport News and Helen Sanderlin of Gloucester; one brother, Bobby N. Hancock of Bassett; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Blackberry Baptist Church with the Rev. Darryl Joyce and Dr. G.H. Vaughan officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Arrangements were by Collins Funeral Services.
