Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

CORENE B. STREET
Corene Barbour Street, 68, of Fairystone Park Hwy., Bassett, died Friday, July 22, 2005, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born June 27, 1937 in Henry County and was a daughter of the late Eddie Clay Barbour Sr. and Mattie Evelyn Hairston Barbour. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Wilbert Velton Barbour.
She was previously employed by J.D. Bassett Manufacturing Company, Bassett-Walker Knitting Company and was a domestic worker. She was a member of Iron Belt Christian Church Disciples of Christ, where she was a member of the kitchen committee, the usher board and the choir.
She was a past member of the Patrick County Community Choir and was a member of Street Family Singers.
Surviving are her husband, Marvin Lee Street of the home; three daughters, Karon Hairston and Minister Kathy Street Tatum Thomas, both of Stuart and Jennifer Lynne Hall of Bassett; two sons, Farrell Street of Richmond and Dwayne Street of Bassett; two sisters, Lucy Via of Stuart and Iowa S. Joyce of Martinsville; two brothers, Eddie Barbour Jr. and Colonel Hayes Barbour, both of Stuart, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Collins Funeral Chapel by Pastor Willie Covington, Dr. Roger Hagwood and Elder Melton Roberson. Burial will be in the Hairston family cemetery in Bassett.
Arrangements are by Collins Funeral Services.

AUDREY H. ADAMS
Audrey Harris Adams, 95, of Stanleytown and formerly of Patrick County, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Stanleytown Health Care Center.
She was born in Patrick County on December 27, 1909 to the late Charles and Ada Wood Harris. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Alton Clyde Adams; a daughter, Evelyn Smith; a son, Alton Carl Adams; a grandchild, Randall Turner; two brothers, Russell Harris and Garnet Harris; a half-brother, Charles Craig; and two sisters, Eva Phillips and Wilma Whitlock.
She was the oldest member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and was retired from Bassett-Walker Industries.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, C. Douglas and Elaine Adams of Martinsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Beatrice and Frank Turner of Patrick Springs; seven grandchildren, Lucky Turner, Gerald Turner, Karen Fulcher, Becky Turner, Jeff Matthews, Jeff Smith and Clarice DeHart; three great-grandchildren, Eric Fulcher, Blaire Fulcher and Shane Turner; and one great-great-grandson, Bryson Fulcher.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church with the Revs. Rick Anderson and Wayne Hannah officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

KATE C. CLIFTON
Kate Cox Clifton, 88, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
She was born August 30, 1916 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Edna Adams Cox. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Roy Buford Clifton Jr.; two sons, Robert Lee Clifton and Roy Buford Clifton Jr.; a sister and five brothers.
She was retired after working as a registered nurse at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was a member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving are three daughters, Shirley Gates of Midlothian, Nelda Williams of Asheboro, N.C., and Janice Fitzgerald of Providence Forge; two sisters, Mary Ray of Burlington, N.C., and Dorothy Crater of Greensboro, N.C.; one brother, A. Daniel Cox of Greensboro; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Mount Airy. The Rev. Robert McCrary officiated. Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery.

JESSE A. FAIN
Jesse Alvis Fain, 83, of Ridgeway, died Thursday, August 4, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born November 1, 1921 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Ira Talmon Fain and Emma Elizabeth Gray Fain. He was also preceded in death by a son, James Alvis Fain; a sister, Thelma Cassady; and five brothers, Amos Fain, Neal Fain, Irvin Fain, Curtis Fain and Marvin Fain.
He retired from Gravely Furniture after 10 years of service.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mary Lorene Howell Fain of the home; four daughters, Judy F. Hughes of Ridgeway, Jessie Lou Fain of Gordonsville, Martha Ann F. Barbour of Bassett and Janet F. Painter of Ridgeway; two sons, Roger A. Fain of Ferrum and Gary Lee Fain of Ridgeway; one sister, Velma Cassady of Patrick Springs; one brother, Frank Fain of Martinsville; 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at Howell Funeral Home in Stuart by Minister Terry Knighten. Burial was in the Conner family cemetery in Meadows of Dan.
Pallbearers were Randy Ashby, Ryan Hurd, Doug Fain, Lee Fain, Darin Barbour, Kevin Barbour, Elliot Painter and Dustin Taylor.

BRENDA E. GEORGE
Brenda Easome George, 58, of Martinsville, dies Sunday, August 7, 2005, at her home.
She was born in Danville on February 11, 1947 and was a daughter of Frances Rigney Easome of Penhook and the late Junior T. Easome.
She was a self-employed beautician and had worked for the Martinsville Bulletin. She was a member of Rich Acres Christian Church.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Leland J. George Sr. of the home; one son, Leland J. George Jr. of Patrick Springs; two sisters, Vickie Walker of Snow Creek and June Davis of Amherst County; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Rich Acres Christian Church with the Rev. Tim Hunt officiating. Burial was in the George family cemetery in Snow Creek.
Memorial contributions may be made to Rich Acres Christian Church, 422 Mountain View Road, Martinsville, Va. 24112.

CECIL W. SPENCER
Cecil Wesley Spencer, 94, of Stuart, died Saturday, August 6, 2005, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Patrick County on November 21, 1910 to the late George C. and Alice Shough Spencer. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Lucille Ayers Spencer; a sister, Louise Hall; and three brothers, Homer Spencer, Raymond Spencer and James Spencer.
He was an agriculture teacher with the Patrick County School System for 31 years and a visiting teacher for 11 years. He was a member of Stuart Baptist Church where he was a deacon emeritus and treasurer emeritus.
Spencer was also a member of the Stuart Lions Club, the Patrick County Retired Teachers Association and J.O.Y. Workers. He was a volunteer at the local hospital and was a past recipient of the Distinguished Patrick Countian award.
Surviving are two daughters, Frances Williams of Salem and Deanna Atkinson of Chesapeake; four brothers, Richard Spencer of Richmond, Amos Spencer of Louisville, Ky., Frank Spencer of Sandy Ridge, N.C. and Algie Spencer of Woolwine; four grandchildren; one great-grandson and a sister-in-law.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Stuart Baptist Church with the Revs. Clint Hopkins and Bruce Updyke officiating. Burial was in Patrick Memorial Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Stuart Baptist Church General Fund, P.O. Box 472, Stuart, Va. 24171; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

EARNEST E. DALTON
Earnest Edward (Dickie Doe) Dalton, 86, of Jeb Stuart Hwy., Stuart, died Tuesday, August 9, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
He was born November 3, 1918 in Hanes (Forsyth County), N.C., and was a son of the late John Franklin Dalton and Eliza Ann Clifton Dalton. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Lillie Webster, Bessie McBride, Ila Gordon, Lorna Donaldson and Bertha Jackson; two brothers, Nathan Dalton and Booker Dalton; and a grandson, David Michael Edwards.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post #11 in Bassett and the VFW. He was retired from Fieldcrest Mills with 47 years of service and was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Georgia Mae Puckett Dalton of the home; two daughters, Wanda Craig of Stuart and Gwen Edwards of Fieldale; one son, Jimmie Dalton of Bassett; one sister, Marjorie Dalton of Fieldale; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Friday at Collins Funeral Services chapel by the Rev. John Shore. Burial, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard, was in Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were Bryan Nowlin, Marty Nowlin, Bobby Johnson, Wayne Craig, Donald Edwards Jr., Ronald Edwards Sr., John Dalton, Gary Craddock, Fred Hiatt, Richard Van Sutphin, Jimmy Barrett and Bud Vaughn.
Members of the honor guard were honorary pallbearers.

HELEN S. INSCORE
Helen Viola Smith Inscore, 80, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Monday, August 8, 2005, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born April 19, 1925 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Charlie Winchester and Eunice Barnard Smith. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Clifford Inscore.
Surviving are one daughter, Judy McIntyre Stockton of Mount Airy; one soon, Robert Martin Inscore of Mount Airy; one brother, John Smith of Ararat; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A graveside service was held Wednesday, August 10, at Oakdale Cemetery with the Rev. Milton Sewell officiating.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.

PETER L. KUZELKA
Peter L. Kuzelka, 57, of Kelly Mill Rd., Stuart, died Friday, July 29, 2005, in the Czech Republic where he was working.
He was born in Slovakia on June 15, 1948.
He started Equipment Specialist which specialized in computer work that he did around the world. He was an avid fiddle player and regularly attended Billy's Flea Market in Bassett for the weekly jam sessions.
Surviving are two daughters, April Campbell of Stuart and Jocelyn Kuzelka of the home; one son, Charles Harris of Greensboro, N.C.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Saturday at the family property in Stuart. The Rev. Mark Wright officiated.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

JONAH L. MARTIN
Jonah Lee (Joe) Martin, 73, of Laurel Fork, died Thursday, August 11, 2005 at Laurel Meadows Nursing Center in Laurel Fork.
He was born on March 18, 1932 in Carroll County to the late Owen and Lettie Marshall Martin.
He was the owner/operator of Joe Martin Wholesale Produce for 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and attended Vesta Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was a member of VFW Post 8467 and American Legion Post 105.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Nancy Morrison Martin of the home; two sons, Steve Martin and Michael Martin, both of Laurel Fork; two sisters, Avenell Jackson of Laurel Fork and Lavelle Branscome of Williamsburg; two brothers, Ivan Martin of Mount Airy, Md., and Junior Martin of Williamsburg; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart with the Revs. Joe Pyles and Amos Morrison officiating. Burial, with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard, was in the Jonah Marshall Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jerry Jackson, Keith Jackson, Tim Morrison, Phillip Steagall, Roy Turman, Bruce McKinney, Derek Jackson and Darrell Quesinberry.

GEORGE E. NEWMAN
George E. Newman, 87, of Brandon, Fla., and formerly of Ridgeway, died Sunday, August 7, 2005.
He was born August 6, 1918 in Ruffin, N.C., and was a son of the late John Edgar and Beulah Glass Newman.
He operated a Lynotype machine at the Martinsville Bulletin for many years until the newspaper converted to offset printing in 1972.
After living in Ridgeway for 36 years, he had lived in Brandon for 15 years.
Newman, who was deaf, was a member of the Tampa Baptist Deaf Church, the Tampa Bay Area Deaf Senior Citizens, St. Petersburg Association of the Deaf, Happy Deaf 55 Club, Polk Garden Club of the Deaf and the Zephyrhills Senior Citizens Association of the Deaf.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Wilma W. Newman; four children, Jane Hampton of Kernersville, N.C., Joanna Kellogg of Brandon, Joyce Newman of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and George Newman of Vesta; two sisters, Susie White of Ruffin and BG Pryor of Pelham, N.C.; and two grandsons.
Funeral services were held Friday at Hillsboro Memorial Funeral Home in Brandon.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tampa Baptist Deaf Church, Tampa, Fla. 33604.

THOMAS J. RAKES
Thomas Junior "Tommy" Rakes, 79, of Stuart, died Saturday, August 13, 2005, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Patrick County and was a son of the late Lemuel "Taft" Thomas and Lottie Mae Cassell Rakes.
He was a scoutmaster and served on the district committee. He was a member of Stuart Lions Club and Stuart Baptist Church.
Rakes was recently given the Community Builder Award by Mountain Home Masonic Lodge 263. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired from United Elastic Corporation. He also did carpentry work.
Surviving are his wife, Velva Dishmon Rakes of the home; one son, Thomas J. Rakes of Stuart; two daughters, Linda Susan Lust of Chesapeake and Teresa Woods of Longwood, Fla.; two brothers, Clyde W. Rakes of Kernersville, N.C., and John Henry Rakes of Smith Mountain Lake; one sister, Lucille Craig of Stuart; his stepmother, Gracie Dalton of Stuart; two half-sisters, Betty Dalton of Gibsonville, N.C., and Virginia Gunter of Stuart; a half-brother, Gary Rakes of Front Royal; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Stuart Baptist Church. The Rev. Bruce Updyke and Clint Hopkins officiated.
Military rites were by the Patrick County Veterans' Memorial Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stuart Baptist Church General Fund, P.O. Box 472, Stuart, Va. 24171.
Arrangements were by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

ETHEL N. REECE
Ethel Josephine Nichols Reece, 87, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Monday, August 8, 2005, at Central Continuing Care.
She was born in Surry County, N.C., on October 12, 1917 and was a daughter of the late William Edward and Ella Davis Nichols. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Floyd George Reece.
She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Bowman and John Smith, both of Mount Airy; one son, Mark Reece of; one sister, Smith of Mount Airy; six grandchildren; two; eight great-grandchildren and six-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, August 10, at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Mount Airy by the Rev. Steve Johnson. Burial was in Skyline Memory Gardens.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Surrey County, 1326 N. Main St., Mount Airy, N.C. 27030.

OPAL B. WARNER
Opal Caroline Bryant Warner died Sunday, August 14, 2005, at Beacon House in Greensboro, N.C., after a battle with lung cancer.
A Virginia native, she was born November 15, 1923 and was a daughter of the late Homer L. and Lula Hall Bryant who lived in the Fairystone Park area. She was also preceded in death by four sisters, Hortense Richmond, Iva Allen, Zelda McCullum and Eris Foley; and two brothers, Sydney Bryant and Floyd Bryant.
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church in Reidsville, N.C., and attended Emmanuel Wesleyan Church. She enjoyed caring for children and elderly people and was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company.
Surviving are two sons, Ronnie Warner of Reidsville and Dale Warner of Greensboro; and one granddaughter.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at Guilford Memorial Park with the Rev. Ray Thomas officiating.
Arrangements were by Lambeth-Troxler Funeral and Cremation Service.
