Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

JAMES R. FARRIS
James Robert Farris, 77, of Kibler Valley Rd., Ararat, died Sunday, October 30, 2005, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
He was born June 26, 1928 in McDowell County, W.Va., and was a son of the late Emet and Olevia Bennett Farris. His wife, Mary Frances Pack Farris, also died in the automobile accident. He was preceded in death by a brother, John Paul Farris.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was retired from Fieldcrest Mills. He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Shelby Willis of Ararat; two sons, Jimmy Farris of Stuart and Steve Farris of Ararat; one brother, Tom Farris of Tobaccoville, N.C.; five grandchildren and a special niece.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Howell Funeral Chapel of Mount Airy, N.C., with the Revs. Charles Moore and J.D. Belton officiating. Burial will follow in the Pack family cemetery in Ararat.

MARY P. FARRIS
Mary Frances Pack Farris, 69, of Kibler Valley Rd., Ararat, died Sunday, October 30, 2005, from injuries received in an automobile accident.
She was born March 4, 1936 in Patrick County and was a daughter of the late Jim and Wavie Ada Pack. Her husband, James Robert Farris, also died in the automobile accident. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Elsie Nunn, Emma Jean Jessup, Ola McCormick and an infant sister, Sadie Pack; and brothers Sanford Pack, Falis Pack, Tommy Pack and an infant brother, Riley Pack.
She was a homemaker and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Shelby Willis of Ararat; two sons, Jimmy Farris of Stuart and Steve Farris of Ararat; two sisters, Bessie Horton of Claudville and Dora Bowman of North Wilkesboro, N.C.; two brothers, Curtis Pack of Advance, N.C., and Clifton Pack of Ararat; five grandchildren and a special niece.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Howell Funeral Service chapel in Mount Airy, N.C., with the Revs. Charles Moore and J.D. Belton officiating. Burial will be in the Pack family cemetery in Ararat.

BERTHA GOODE
Bertha Goode, 97, of Arlington, died October 19, 2005, in Arlington.
She was born in Patrick County on December 24, 1907 and was a daughter of the late Rev. Joseph W. and Mary "Molly" V. Goode.
She was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church.
Surviving are one sister, Ocie G. Pullins of Stuart, and several nieces and nephews.

MOLEAN MAYS
Molean Mays, 80, of Bassett, died Friday, October 28, 2005, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.
She was born September 21, 1925 in Lawsonville, N.C., and was a daughter of the late William Arthur and Jettie Ann Hall Overby. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Arthur Overby, Walter Overby and Burrell Overby; and three sisters, Letti Dunkley, Marie Puckett and Elizabeth Cassady.
Surviving are her husband, Curtis Mays of the home; two daughters, Nancy Parnell of Bassett and Betty Sue Mays of the home; one sister, Matlean Williams of Collinsville; two brothers, Bill Overby and Hoover Overby, both of Stuart; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at Bassett Funeral Service chapel by the Rev. Dwayne Pruitt. Burial was in the Old Center Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Giles Parnell, Tony Parnell, Gary Williams, Randy Williams and Thomas Shelton.

EDNA McALEXANDER
Edna McAlexander died Wednesday, October 26, 2005 in Sarasota, Fla.
She was born in Meadows of Dan on January 4, 1935 and was a daughter of the late E.A. and Eunice McAlexander.
She retired in 1997 after teaching English and journalism for 36 years, mostly at Naples and Barron Collier High Schools. She was a member of the Florida Teacher's Association and former president of the Collier County Education Association.
She was also a professional writer, editor, literary critic and radio disc jockey. She was an accomplished seamstress and quilter and an artist and musician.
Surviving are one brother and sister-in-law, Aaron and Glenda McAlexander of Charlotte, N.C.; and three granddaughters, Pam Watts of Wellesley, Mass., Crystal Watts of the home, and Lauretta Navarro Watts of Miami, Fla.
A gathering of friends was held Sunday at her home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nature Conservancy or the charity of choice.

LINA S. PATEL
Lina S. Patel, 22, of Stuart, died Tuesday, October 25, 2005, in Navsari, India, from bone cancer.
She was born in India on September 25, 1983 and was a daughter of Sanmukhbhai B. and Ramilaben Patel of Navsari.
She had worked at The Virginian Motel and Subway in Stuart for a year.
Surviving are her husband, Kiran T. (Ken) Patel of Stuart; one brother, Jignesh Patel; one sister, Hetal Patel; and a grandmother. Except for her husband, her family lives in India.
Funeral services were held in India on Wednesday, October 26.

AGNES V. TUCKER
Agnes Vernon Tucker, 93, a resident of Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart and formerly of Lawsonville, N.C., died Monday, October 31, 2005, at the nursing center.
She was born in Patrick County on March 10, 1912 to the late Felix L. and Minnie Nelson Vernon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert A. Tucker; and three brothers, Dennis Vernon, Leonard Vernon and Ralph Vernon.
She attended Radford University for two years and High Point University for two years. She was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and was active in the WMU.
She was a teacher for 41 years, teaching at Lawsonville Elementary School for 30 years and in Patrick County in prior years. She was a member of the Retired Teachers Association of North Carolina and the Stokes County Home Extension.
Surviving are three sisters, Eldean Shelton of Martinsville, Dorothy Shockley of Stuart and Ruby Clark of Stuart; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Peters Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Terry Ragsdale will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Peters Creek Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Spot Ray, 603 Salem Hwy., Stuart, Va. 24171.
Arrangements are by Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.

JOE B. TUCKER
Joe Bill Tucker, 68, of Dobson, N.C., died Monday, October 17, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Surry County, N.C., on March 9, 1937 to the late John Walter and Alice Hayes Tucker.
He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and was co-owner of T & S Motors in Mount Airy.
He was a member of the Old Timers Racing Association and raced at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Surviving are the mother of his children, Norma Creed Tucker; one daughter, Tonya Hiatt of Mount Airy; two sons, Joey Tucker of Dobson and Todd Tucker of Ararat; two sisters, Carolyn Weatherman and Patty Cockerham, both of Yadkinville, N.C.; four brothers, Jesse Tucker of Mount Airy, Jimmy Tucker of Dobson, Wade Tucker of Copeland, N.C., and J.W. Tucker of State Road, N.C.; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 19.
Memorial contributions may be made to Liberty Baptist Church Building Fund, 172 Liberty Church Rd., Dobson, N.C. 27017.

VINCENT E. VALENTINE
Vincent Earl Valentine of Mount Airy, N.C., died Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born October 18, 1968 to Catherine Valentine of Mount Airy and the late Elder Jerry E. Valentine Sr.
He was a graduate of North Surry High School and attended Surry Community College. He served in the U.S. Army during Desert Storm, and after returning home, taught at Meadowview Elementary School for six years.
He was attending the Police Academy School at Surry Community College, where he would have graduated in December. He was employed by the Good Life Café at Main-Oak Emporium and the Children's Home of Surry County.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are one daughter, Alexis Nicole Valentine of Mount Airy; two sons, Vincent Earl Valentine Jr. and Corey Hamilton Valentine, both of Ararat; two sisters, Mary Ann Brim of Ararat and Debra Karen Ziglar of Mount Airy; one brother, Minister Jerry E. Valentine of Ararat; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 22, at Jones Intermediate School in Mount Airy. Elder Carl Morgan was the eulogist. Burial was in Payne's Chapel Church cemetery in Mount Airy.
Arrangements were by Spencer Funeral Home in Mount Airy.

PANSY G. GOINS
Pansy Beatrice Goins Goins, 64, of E. Pine St., Mount Airy, N.C., died Monday, October 31, 2005, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
She was born in Surry County, N.C., on August 3, 1941, and was a daughter of Martha Puckett Goins of Mount Airy and the late Roscoe Gene Goins. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Gene Carson Goins.
She had been employed at Kentucky Derby Hosiery.
Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Henry Goins of the home; one daughter, Tammy Johnson of Mount Airy; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Haskell Easter, Carol and Burton Hensley, Pauline and Gary Wright, all of Mount Airy, and Johnnie and Greg Holt of Ararat, N.C.; four brothers and sisters-in-law, Billie and Judy Goins, Glenn and Kathleen Goins, Doug and Kathy Goins and Garry and Nancy Goins, all of Mount Airy; and a grandson, Kevin Russell Johnson of Mount Airy.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Mount Airy. The Revs. Clinton Hensley and Joe Sloop will officiate. Burial will follow in the Goins family cemetery.

JAMES W. ANDERSON
James Wesley Anderson, 83, of Claudville, died Sunday, December 4, 2005, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on September 25, 1922 to the late Joe and Amanda McMillian Anderson. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Joe Bill Anderson, Raleigh Anderson and Austin Anderson. He was retired from Pike Electric with 38 years of service and attended Unity Bible church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Georgia Watson Anderson of the home; one daughter, Dawn Flynn of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one son, Donald Anderson of Claudville; four sisters, Essie Bishop of Claudville, Ossie Caldwell of Indianapolis, Inc., Dorothy Setzer of Norfolk and Polly Scales of Ararat; one brother, Roy Anderson of Westfield, N.C.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at Unity Bible Church by the Rev. Buford Jessup. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Unity Bible Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Patricia Anderson, 358 Mears Rd., Claudville, Va. 24053.

SUSIE W. COCKRAM
Susie Annie Worley Cockram, 93, formerly of Sanville, died Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Laurel Meadows Nursing Home in Laurel Fork. She was born in Patrick County on March 3, 1912 to the late Thomas Henry and Jaythanna Rosiebell McAlexander Worley. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lincoln Cockram; an infant child and a daughter, Rosie C. Turner; a sister, Lilly Woods; seven brothers, Matthew Woods, John Worley, Benjamin Worley, Josh Worley, Issac Worley, Jes Worley and Walter Worley.
Surviving are one daughter, Annie Cockram of Sanville; two stepgrandchildren; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Moody Funeral Home chapel in Stuart. Burial was in the Conner family cemetery in Patrick County.

ARNOLD CONNER
Arnold Conner, 89, of Meadows of Dan and formerly of Floyd, died Sunday, December 4, 2005. He was a veteran of World War II where he served in the Philippines and Japan.
Surviving are his wife, Lorna Conner; one stepson, Michael Belcher; one stepdaughter, Rita K. Wood; three stepgrandchildren, one stepgreat-grandson, Luke Hayes; five nephews and nieces and two sisters-in-law..
Funeral services will be conducted today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J.C. Willard Jr. Burial, with military rites by the Floyd VFW Post #7854 and Floyd American Legion Post #127, will be in Jacksonville Cemetery in Floyd.

ROBERT L. CROWDER
Robert L. Crowder, 75, of Greensboro, N.C., died Thursday, December 1, 2005, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital. He was the son of the late George and Nettie Mae Crowder. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and retired from Super X Drug Stores after more than 20 years of service. He was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are two sisters, Zona Savolskis and JoAnn Thompkins, both of Patrick Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday at George Brothers Funeral Service in Greensboro. Burial, with military honors, was in Guilford Memorial Park.

WAYNE FULK
Wayne Fulk, 76, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Tuesday, December 6, 2005, at his home. He was born September 30, 1929 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Jesse Lee and Lura Puckett Fulk. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Mount Airy Furniture Company as a supervisor.
Surviving are four sons, Mike Fulk and David Fulk, both of Ararat, and Terry Fulk and Kenneth Fulk, both of Mount Airy; one brother, Junior Fulk of Mount Airy; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Hunters Chapel Church in Ararat with the Rev. John McCann officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 1326 N. Main St., Mount Airy, N.C. 27030.

ALICE T. HARROLD
Alice Mae Thompson Harrold, 84, of Mount Airy, N.C., died Saturday, December 3, 2005, at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born February 27, 1921 in Surry County, N.C., and was a daughter of the late Lonnie Edgar and Minnie Doby Thompson. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny Edgar Thompson, Elwood Thompson and Willie Thompson. She was a homemaker and was formerly employed by Harrold's Lawn and Garden.
Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Otis Odell Harrold Jr. of the home; three daughters, Thelma Cassell of Newport News, Mary Frances Rakes of Meadows of Dan and Linda Leftwich of Hampton; two sons, Otis Odell Harrold III and Larry Harrold, both of Mount Airy; one sister, Hester Thompson Greenwood of Mount Airy; one brother, Bobby Plunkett of Winston-Salem; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Moody Funeral Home chapel in Mount Airy with the Rev. Rawley "Dink" Haynes Jr. officiating. Entombment was in the Skyline Memory Garden Mausoleum.

NORMAN V. HODNETT
Norman Victor Hodnett, 31, of Penhook, died Monday, December 5, 2005, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born in Danville on October 28, 1974 and was a son of Larry Hodnett of South Boston and Zandra Clark Hodnett of Danville. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe and Lorene Hodnett, who lived in Patrick County. He was a member of Keen Street Baptist Church. He was a graduate of George Washington High School and was attending ECPI in Roanoke. Hodnett was employed by Doors and More in Wirtz.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two daughters, Laci Paige Hodnett and Lani Grace Hodnett both of Penhook; one sister, Tammy Hodnett of Penhook, and his maternal grandmother of Danville.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Townes Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Durham officiating. A graveside service will be held at Sycamore Baptist Church cemetery in Stuart by the Rev. Gerald Melton.
The family will receive friends tonight (Wednesday) from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Townes Funeral Home, 215 W. Main St., Danville.
