Corlette Nicole Moss

Corlette Nicole Moss, 23, of Durham, N.C., formerly of Halifax County, died June 26, 2003 at Duke University Medical Center.

Miss Moss was born in Halifax County on June 7, 1980, the daughter of Mark Moss and Cindy Burns Moss Hayden.

Survivors include her mother of Durham; her father of South Boston; three brothers, Anthony Moss, Corey Burns and Thomas Clayton, all of Durham; two sisters, Kiara Burns of Durham, and Destiny Moss of South Boston; paternal grandparents, Walter Richard Moss and Vernell Foster Moss of Clover; maternal grandfather, John Burns of Halifax; and her maternal grandmother, Delores High of California City, Calif.

Funeral services for Miss Moss will be held tomorrow, July 3, at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Burns Family Cemetery in Halifax.

The family will receive friends this evening between 7:00 and 8:00 at Scarborough and Hargett Funeral Home in Durham.

Marian Bomar Moss

Marian Bomar Moss, 78, of 11226 James D. Hagood Highway, Clover, died October 22, 2003 at her home.

Mrs. Moss was born in Halifax County on October 14, 1925, the daughter of Samuel Carter Bomar and Mary Elizabeth Nichols Bomar and was married to John H. Moss Jr. She was a member of Clover United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one son, Horace Moss of Smithfield; three grandchildren; one brother, Edwin 'Zip' Bomar of Lynchburg; and one sister, Evelyn Talley of Scottsburg.

Funeral services for Mrs. Moss will be held today, October 24 at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vance Midget officiating. Burial will take place in the Clover Cemetery.

Virginia Hamlett Mulligan

Virginia Hamlett Mulligan, 69, of Lynchburg, died December 1, 2003. She was the wife of Marvin Lee Mulligan.

Mrs. Mulligan was born June 11, 1934, in Charlotte County, a daughter of the late Carlton 'Buck' Hamlett and Elsie McKinney Hamlett. She worked for DeWitt Realty as a real estate agent and was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Michael M. Mulligan of Brazil; a daughter, Kelly M. Stults and husband, Wesley, of Lynchburg; step-grandchildren, Brian and Colin Stults; a brother, Harold Hamlett and wife, Maxine, of Aylett; and a sister, Edith H. Stutts and husband, Thomas, of Alton.

Entombment will be at 2 p.m. today, December 5, in Virginia Memorial Park’s Rock Columbarium.

Nancy Carolyn Perry Noblin

Nancy Carolyn Perry Noblin, 79, of 2085 Mountain Road, Halifax died December 8, 2003 at her home.

Mrs. Noblin was born in Halifax County on August 21, 1924, the daughter of Charles Edward Perry and May Blanks Hastings and was married to Lennis Wilbur Noblin. She was a member of Freedom Worship Center.

Survivors include one daughter, Judith P. Hudson of Halifax; one son, Robert A. Noblin Jr. of Halifax; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and one great-great-grandchild.

A graveside service for Mrs. Noblin will be held tomorrow, December 11 in Halifax Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Stan Lawton and Ricky Whitlow officiating.

The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home this evening, December 10, from 7:00 until 8:30, and other times at the home.

Nevville Homan O’Regan

Nevville Homan O'Regan, 65, of 506 Greenway Drive, South Boston died July 27, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mrs. O'Regan was born in Paris, Mo. on March 28, 1938, the daughter of Harold Homan and Ruby Lange Homan and was married to Jack O'Regan. She was a member of St. Paschal Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband of the home; three daughters, Barbara O'Regan of Atlanta, Ga., Nancy O'Regan and Carol O'Regan, both of Richmond; one son, Phillip O'Regan of Tampa, Fla.; and one sister, Phyllis H. Beamer of Overland Park, Kans.

A memorial service for Mrs. O'Regan was held July 28 at 7 p.m. at St. Paschal Catholic Church with Sister Edna Maier officiating.

Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider the Virginia Rehabilitation Center for the Blind, 395 Azalea Avenue, Richmond, 23227.

John M. Ogden

John M. Ogden, 96, of Mt. Laurel, died July 9, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.
Mr. Ogden was born April 9, 1907, the son of John Morgan Ogden and Lelia Hawkins Ogden. He was a retired carpenter.

Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Dorothy M. Ogden; two grandchildren, Lou Ann Warner and Michael W. Ogden; three great-grandchildren, Cristy Warner, David Warner and Jessica Ogden, all of Md.; his brothers and sisters; and a family friend, Pattie Hatcher of South Boston. Mr. Ogden was preceded in death by one daughter, Faye Ogden Jorengson; and one son, Jerry A. Ogden.

Services for Mr. Ogden will be held today, July 11 at 11 a.m. at Whitten Timberlake Chapel, Lynchburg. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial in Lynchburg.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Julie Anne Orme

Julie Anne Orme, 43, of Waldorf, Md. died July 15, 2003 at Duke University Medical Center.

Miss Orme was born in Washington, D.C. on March 3, 1960, the daughter of Earle T. Orme Jr. and Mary Cavanaugh Duncan.

Survivors other than her mother and father include her stepfather, Buddy Duncan of Nathalie; her stepmother, Gloria Orme of Owings, Md.; one son, Joseph Matthew Arnold of Waldorf; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Gary Orme Sr. and wife, Kimberly, of Enterprise, W.Va. and Earle Orme III and wife, Dawn, of Nathalie; one stepsister, Mitzi D. Waller of Nathalie; and one stepbrother, Richard E. Duncan Jr. of Nathalie.

Funeral services for Miss Orme will be held July 18 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Republican Grove with the Rev. Shelton Miles officiating. Burial will take place in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home tomorrow evening, July 17, from 7:00 until 8:30, and other times at the home of her mother, 4126 Leda Grove Road, Nathalie and following the funeral in the fellowship hall of the church.

Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider First Baptist Church of Republican Grove.

Harry Webb Owen

Harry Webb Owen, 55, of Sutherlin died November 12, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mr. Owen was born in Halifax County on October 17, 1948, the son of Thomas W. Owen and Elizabeth McCrary Owen. He was a member of First Baptist Church, the Dan River Flyers Club and the South Boston/Halifax County Historical Museum.

Survivors of Mr. Owen include his mother of South Boston; one sister, Ann Owen Ozmer and her husband, Jim, of Sutherlin; and one nephew, Adam Webb Ozmer of Richmond.

A graveside service will be held today, November 14 at 3 p.m. in Oak Ridge Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Tim Cannon officiating.

Those wishing to give memorials are asked to consider First Baptist Church, 815 North Main Street, South Boston, 24592.

Jesse Garland Owen

Jesse Garland Owen, 78, of Emporia died November 6, 2003. He was an insurance salesman for Aflac Insurance Company, a member of Widows Son Lodge #150 AF&AM, Chase City Lodge #119 AF&AM, Order of Eastern Star #46, Emporia, Chase City #147, Emporia Shrine Club and Accua Temple, Richmond where he was former chaplin, trustee of the Virginia Baptist Foundation, trustee Main Street Baptist Church where he was a member.

Survivors include his wife, Irma Thompson Owen of Emporia; two sisters, Julia Jones of Halifax and Bessie Simmons of Greensboro, N.C.

A Masonic service for Mr. Owen was held November 9 at the Echols Funeral Home in Emporia at 4 p.m.

A funeral service was held November 10 at 11 a.m. at Main Street Baptist Church in Emporia with a graveside service at 3 p.m. at Crestview Memorial Park in South Hill. The Revs. David E. Roberts and Timothy K. Norman officiated.

Kimberly Anderson Owen

Kimberly Anderson Owen, 42, of 5009 East Hyco Road, South Boston died October 7, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Owen was born in Pittsylvania County on May 5, 1961, the daughter of Elsie Ferrell Anderson and the late Linwood Anderson and was married to Raymond L. Owen Sr. She was a member of Mt. Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Tranequa Owen of Greenbelt, Md. and Tyasia Owen of the home; one son, Raymond Owen Jr. of the home; her mother of South Boston; five sisters, Diane Glass of Blairs, Sharon of South Boston, Deborah Anderson of Woodbridge, Genora Garland of Sutherlin and Janice Traynham of South Boston; six brothers, Stanley Anderson of Danville, Larry Anderson of Sutherlin, Tony Anderson of Halifax, Carroll Wayne Anderson and Darius Anderson, both of South Boston, and Ricky Anderson of Lynchburg; and her father-in-law, Harold Owen Sr.

Funeral services for Mrs. Owen will be held tomorrow, October 11 at 1 p.m. at Mt. Grove Baptist Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Arthur E. Crews officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family is receiving friends at the home.

Ray Clare Owen

Ray Clare Owen, 47, of 412 Summit Drive, South Boston, died October 15, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mr. Owen was born in Pittsylvania County on December 1, 1955 to the late Alfred G. “Dick” Owen and Juanita Jones Owen.

He is survived by his brother, Forrest D. Owen of South Boston.
A graveside service was held October 18 at Floral Hills Memory Gardens, Danville. The Rev. Aubrey Heath officiated the service.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2680, North Canton, Ohio 44720 or to the Halifax County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 1 83, South Boston, VA 24592.

Gloria Hope Palmer

Gloria Hope Palmer of Crystal Hill died August 28, 2003 at The Woodview. She was born in Halifax County on April 12, 1927, and was 76 years old.

Ms. Palmer was the daughter of Robert Daniel Palmer and Sue Hunt Palmer and was a member of Crystal Hill Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sisters, Katherine Bell of Danville and Edith Ray Leach of Atlanta, Ga.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services for Ms. Palmer will be held Monday, September 1 at Crystal Hill Southern Baptist Church Cemetery at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ed Griffin officiating.

June Redford Palmer

June Redford Palmer, 62, of 1210 N. Nichols Ferry Road, South Boston died August 6, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Palmer was born in Richmond on March 29, 1941, the daughter of Raymond Earl Redford and Mary Wright Redford and was married to John Palmer. She attended Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband; one son, John R. Palmer of South Boston; one daughter, Janet P. Kirkland of Hendersonville, N.C.; two brothers, Calvin and Lloyd Redford, both of Richmond; and one granddaughter, Anna Kirkland of Hendersonville.

Funeral services for Mrs. Palmer will be held today, August 8 at 11 a.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Tony Brooks conducting the service. Burial will take place in Oak Ridge Cemetery.

Rebecca L. Palmer

Rebecca L. Palmer, 86, of Upper Marlboro, Md., formerly of Vernon Hill, died September 11 at Mariner Health of greater Laurel Facility in Laurel, Md.
Mrs. Palmer was born in Halifax County on April 24, 1917, the daughter of Tom Leigh and Maria Sweeney Leigh.

Funeral services were held September 14 at 2 p.m. at Blue Rock Pentecostal Church in Vernon Hill with Elder D. Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

William A. Palmer

William A. Palmer, 87, of 8018 Hunting Creek Road, Clover died October 24, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mr. Palmer was born in Halifax County on July 7, 1916, the son of Willie Palmer and Etta Mae Wood Palmer and was married to Sturee Wright Palmer. He was a member of Bethel Grove Baptist Church, a WWII Army Veteran and was a retired longshoreman.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ann E. Randall of Boston, Ma; one son William H. Palmer of Ft. Washington, Md.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Brenda W. Palmer; and one son-in-law, Royal Randall.

Funeral services for Mr. Palmer will be held tomorrow, November 1 at 1:30 p.m. at Bethel Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. William Hicks officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7:00 until 8:00 at Jeffress Funeral Home Chapel.

Alma Stevens Patterson

Alma Stevens Patterson, 99, of Tobacco Road, Nathalie died October 27, 2003 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home.

Mrs. Patterson was born in Halifax County on July 1, 1904, the daughter of John Wesley Stevens and Lula Burton Stevens, and was married first to Charlie Alderson then to Charlie Patterson. She was a member of Oak Ridge Seventh Day Adventist Church where she was church treasurer for many years.

Survivors include three nieces, Betty Jane Bennett of Kentuck, Jolene Thurow and Nancy Blankenship, both of Greenville, Tenn.; five nephews, Randal Stevens of Maryland, Melvin Stevens of Halifax, John Stevens of Nathalie, Ray Stevens of White Plains, Md. and Charlie Stevens of Wisc.

Funeral services for Mrs. Patterson will be held October 31 at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ray Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in the Stevens Family Cemetery at Republican Grove.

John Stewart Perkins

John Stewart Perkins, 88, of 2000 Vaughan Street, South Boston died September 4, 2003 at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Mr. Perkins was born in Halifax County on December 7, 1914, the son of Paul John Perkins and Catherine Jane Perkins Perkins and was married to Mae Palmer Perkins. He was a member of Emanuel Episcopal Church.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Joyce P. Thomasson of Altavista, Penny P. Owen and Tammie P. Thacker, both of Hurt; one son, Kenneth A. Perkins of South Boston; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren
Graveside services for Mr. Perkins will be held today, September 5 at Emanuel Episcopal Church Cemetery at 3 p.m. with the Rev. David Dickerson officiating.

The family will receive friends at the home of Bill and Lucille Dickey, 2000 Sycamore Road, South Boston.

Samuel Ernest Perkins

Samuel Ernest Perkins, of South Boston, died Saturday, December 27, 2003, at Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was the son of the late Samuel Bateman Perkins and the late Minnie Dunaway Perkins and was married to Joan Marie Beadles Perkins.

Mr. Perkins was a retired truck driver for Lasco Bathware and was a member of the Revelation Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, two sons, Steven Perkins and Robbie Perkins, both of Hudson, Fla., one sister, Mildred P. King of Halifax, and one brother, James Perkins of Detroit.

Mr. Perkins was preceded in death by two brothers, Booker Perkins and John Perkins.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 31, at 2 p.m. at Powell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rudolh Jacobs and the Rev. Jack Stewart officiating.

Burial will follow in the Halifax Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends at Powell Funeral Home Tuesday night from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times at his home, 1144 Alphonse Dairy Road, South Boston.
