Charles Wayne Hall

HALL, CHARLES WAYNE, 50 of Pearisburg, VA., went to be with the Lord Thursday morning, August 2, 2007 in Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, VA. Wayne was born on February 12, 1957 in Alexandria, VA and was a son of the late Charles and Helen Meadows Hall. He was a life long resident of Pearisburg and was a member of the New Life Church in Christiansburg. He is survived by his aunt, Hazel Neice of Pearisburg. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, August 4, 2007 at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Doug Martin officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 pm Saturday before the service.

Margaret Johnson Cooper

COOPER, MARGARET JOHNSON, 47 of Dublin, VA, passed away Friday morning, August 17, 2007. Margaret was born on July 25, 1960 in Pearisburg, VA and was a daughter of Jesse Ray Johnson and Dorothy Whittaker Johnson of Pearisburg, VA. Margaret was a 1978 graduate of Giles High School, a member of the First United Methodist Church in Dublin, a member of the New River Valley Walk to Emmaus Community, a loving daughter, sister, mother, grandmother and a friend to all. She is survived by two sons, M. Jason DeBusk of Staffordsville, Robert B. Cooper of Dublin, two step-sons, Marcus Cooper and Nathan Cooper both of North Carolina, one brother and sister-in-law, J. Chris and Teena Johnson of Staffordsville, one grandson, Nicholas DeBusk and one niece, Lynnsey Johnson; two aunts, Cuva and David Weinstien and Charlotte and Larry Linkous; special friend Tom Boxall. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, August 20, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Dublin at 11:00am with the Rev. Bill Rowland and Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 – 9 pm at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg and Monday one hour before the service at the church.

Minnie Frances Shaw

SHAW, MINNIE FRANCES, 84 of Pearisburg, VA passed away Monday morning, August 27, 2007 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, VA. Mrs. Shaw was born in Buena Vista, VA and was a daughter of the late Charles Henry Ellis Shanks and Mary Rowsey Shanks. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Elbert Shaw. Mrs. Shaw is of the Baptist Faith. She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law Joe and Gay Shanks of Pearisburg and several neices and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 2:00pm at Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg with Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Thursday 1 hour before the service from 1 – 2 pm.

Donald Keith (Pee Wee) Davis

DAVIS, DONALD KEITH (PEE WEE). of Ripplemead, VA. went to be with the Lord Thursday morning, July 5, 2007 at his home. Mr. Davis was born on October 29, 1932 in Pearisburg, VA and was a son of the late Daniel Miller Davis, Sr. and Gladys Kelley Davis. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Lou Viars Davis, a daughter, Debra Lynn Davis and one brother, Daniel M. (Bike) Davis, Jr. Mr. Davis was retired from the United States Air Force, retired from the Celanese Corp. in Narrows, VA., and was a member of the VFW #6000 in Narrows. He is survived by one son, Donald K. Davis, Jr. of Ripplemead, two daughters, Denise and husband Bobby Meadows of Narrows, Diann Myers of Tenn., two brothers, Carroll and Mary Gay Davis of Pearisburg, Russell and Gail Davis of Ripplemead, two sisters, Betty Ross Raynes of Pearisburg, Anne and Rev. James H. Blankenship of Petersburg, five grandchildren, Ashley, Brittany, Dawn and Fawntain Myers, Daniel Defibaugh, and five great grandchildren, Kristen Williams, Summer McClure, Haley Neice, Jaden Neice and Alia Breeden. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 8, 2007 at 2:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. James H. Blankenship officiating with entombment and full military services by VFW Post # 6000 and American Legion Post 68 and 311 following in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6 – 8 pm.

Violet Juanita French Jones

JONES, VIOLET JUANITA FRENCH, 73 of Narrows, VA went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. Mrs. Jones was born on May 7, 1934 in Narrows, VA and was a daughter of the late Andrew Johnson French and Lathey Clark French. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, LaRue Ferrell and one brother, William L. French. She is survived by her husband Marvin Carl Jones, one daughter, Sharon J. and husband Jerry L. Blankenship of Narrows, two brothers, Arnold E. and wife Lois French of Narrows, Richard C. and wife Sally French of Rich Creek, VA, two sisters, Carrie Clevenger of Newport New, VA, Dorothy Hayworth of Narrows, one granddaughter, Julie Ann Hughes of Narrows, on grandson, Kristopher W. and wife Christy of Penhook, and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 15, 2007 at 2:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Franklin Atkins officiating with burial following in the Fairview cemetery in Narrows. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6 – 8 pm.

Alice Juanita Ivy Clappes

CLAPPES, ALICE JUANITA IVY, 65 of Pearisburg, VA., went to be with the Lord Thursday, July 12, 2007 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, VA. Mrs. Clappes was born on January 08, 1942 in Sarah, Miss and was a daughter of the late James W. Ivy, Sr. and Pauline Mosby Ivy. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by 2 sisters and 6 brothers. Mrs. Clappes is a member of the Pearisburg Baptist Church. She is survived by, her husband George F. Clappes, Sr. of Pearisburg, one son, George Foster and wife Anne Clappes, Jr. of Dublin, two daughters, Pamela June and husband Chris McNeer of Pearisburg, Tammi C. and husband Jerry W. Sexton of Rich Creek, one sister, Georgia Claire Ivy Caffey of Independence, Miss and three grandchildren, Brooke McNeer, Hunter McNeer and Tiffany Sexton. Funeral services will be conducted, Saturday, July 14, 2007 at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg at 2:00pm with Jamie Hyden officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends one hour before the service from 1:00 – 2:00 at the Givens Funeral Home.

Frances Perkins Kingrea

KINGREA, FRANCES PERKINS, 80 of Pearisburg, VA, formerly of Dublin, passed away Friday Morning June 22, 2007 at Riverview Nursing Home in Rich Creek, VA. Mrs. Perkins was born on February 2, 1927 in Giles Co. VA and was a daughter to the late John and Fannie Sartin Perkins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Bill Kingrea, five brothers, Raymond, Ernest, Vernon, Elmer and Cecil Perkins, four sisters, Thelma White, Annie Honoker, Arbelle Thornhill and Mary Perkins. Mrs. Kingrea was a former member of the Newbern Church of God and a member of Faith Temple Pentecostal Church in Pearisburg. She is survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Pauline Gordon and Virginia and husband Junior Holt and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Faith Temple Church in Pearisburg at 2:00pm with the Rev. Clayton Quensenberrry officiating with interment following in the Guinea Mountain cemetery in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Saturday evening from 6 – 8 pm.

Rosie Szabat Sadler

SADLER, ROSIE SZABAT, of Pearisburg, VA., was called home, and entered Heaven’s doors Monday night at Carilion Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg, VA. Mrs. Sadler was born on November 13, 1924 in Eckman, WV and was a daughter of the late Mack Szabat and Alice Wilson Szabat. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Larence Sadler, one brother, Tony Sabat and five sisters, Pauline Baird, Helen Martin, Dorothy Bishop, Goldie Bennett and Diane Hoover. Mrs. Sadler was a member of the Pleasant Hill Methodist Church in Pearisburg. She is survived by two daughters, Betty S. and Howard Price of Pearisburg, Marlene Fontaine and Barry Hagy of Pearisburg, one son, William and Susan Sadler of Pearisburg, sisters, Joyce Gautier of Pearisburg, one brother-in-law, Tom Martin, one sister-in-law, Louise Sadler, three grandchildren, David Fontaine, Jr., Eric R. Price, Amanda S. Blankenship, two great grandchildren Corey Fontaine, Holly Fontaine and several loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 28, 2007 at 2:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with the Rev. Paula Campbell and Rev. Bill Akers officiating with entombment following in the Birchlawn Abbey in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home in Pearisburg Wednesday from 6 – 8 pm.

Anna Ross Brotherton Croy

CROY, ANNA ROSS BROTHERTON, 89 of Pearisburg passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at her home in Pearisburg, VA. Mrs. Croy was born on July 9, 1917 in Pearisburg, VA and was a daughter of the late Rufus Haynes Brotherton & Essie May Johnston Brotherton. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James Richard Croy, two sisters, Winnie Johnston and Sarah Lafon, one brother Jack Brotherton and one son-in-law, Dr. Maury C. Newton, Jr. Mrs. Croy was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Pamela C. Newton of Marietta, GA, Priscilla C. and Phillip Morris of Pearisburg, one granddaughter, Kimberly C. Morris of Winston-Salem, NC, a special niece, Betty L. Kropff of Roanoke, one step granddaughter, Lucy Newton Maloney and two step great grandchildren, Ross Patrick and Bailey John Maloney. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 29, 2007 at 2:00pm at the Givens Funeral Chapel in Pearisburg with Dr. Fred L. Austin officiating with burial following in the Birchlawn Burial Park in Pearisburg. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home Thursday evening from 6 – 9 pm.
