Rebecca Thomasson Clingenpeel, 84, of Vinton went to be with her Lord Saturday June, 12, 2004. Rebecca was a former employee of Kenrose Mfg. and widow of Harold Mansfield Clingenpeel. She was the daughter of the late Henry Emmett Thomasson and Fannie Crouch Thomasson. Also preceded in death by a son, Robert R. (Bobby) Clingenpeel. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Harold and Linda Clingenpeel of Vinton; daughter-in-law, Marsha Clingenpeel, three grandchildren, Valerie Caldwell, Randi Clingenpeel and Charlie Clingenpeel; one great-grandson, Ethan Caldwell; one brother, Paul Thomasson of Bedford County and one sister, Florence Creasy of Goodview. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004 from the Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Donnie Glass officiating., Burial to follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday and Monday at the Lotz Funeral Home, Vinton Chapel

CONNER, Terry Allen

Terry Allen Conner, 43, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, June 11, 2004. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty K. Conner; a step brother, Jason King; and grandparents, Laura and Delvin Osbourne. Terry was an avid outdoorsman with a special love for hunting, fishing, and Nascar racing. He was proud of his family and the fact that he successfully operated his own business. Surviving is his wife, Michelle Tinsley Conner; son, Cody Allen Conner of the home,; father and stepmother, Reggie and Kathy Conner; stepbrother, Jeff King; stepsister, Amy King, all of Shawsville; mother-in-law, Carol Tinsley, Roanoke; father-in-law, Donald Tinsley and wife Linda, of Vinton; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Peggy Tinsley, Carl and Susan Walters, Pamela Tinsley; special nephew, Hunter Walters; other nieces and a nephew, Faith, Chelsea and Chase Tinsley; special uncle, Charlie Tinsley; and a number of other aunts, uncles, and cousins. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, with Pastor Tim Kirchoff officiating. COON, Margaret H.

Margaret H. Coon, 76, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 10, 2004. She was a loving mother and a devoted wife. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Coon. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Jo Anna and Art Beeler; one granddaughter, Meghan Beeler; brother, Raymond D. Howery of Tazewell, Va.; sisters, Nanola Hagy, Doris Corell, both of Tazewell, Va., Nell Hagy of Roanoke, Mary Thompson of Bradenton, Fla., Mamie Bucklen of Saugerties, N.Y.; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at Oakey's North Chapel with Rev. Robert L. Alderman officiating. The interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Eastern North Carolina Chapter, 200 Oberlin Road, Suite 220, Raleigh, N.C., 27605-1351. JONAS, Lilburn L.

Lilburn L. Jonas, 91, died on Thursday, June 10, 2004 in Annapolis, Maryland. Mr. Jonas, formerly of Blue Ridge and Roanoke, was born on July 20, 1912 in Wythe County, Virginia, the only son of the late Bert Shannon Jonas and Claire Buck Jonas. Mr. Jonas was a graduate of Pulaski High School. He was Manager of A&P Co. in 1931, a representative of Jamesway Equipment Co. in 1943, and owner of Blue Ridge Supply Store in 1945. He was a Real Estate Broker in the Roanoke Valley since 1949, and was a member and past President of the Roanoke Valley Board of Realtors. He was owner of L. L. Jonas Real Estate Brokerage, was associated with the Federal Housing Administration, and was a partner in John H. Windel Co. He was also associated with Sigmon Brothers and J.G. Sheetz & Sons. He was a member of the Blue Ridge Church of the Brethren, where he served as Trustee and member of the Board. He was a former moderator and Board Chairman of the Virlina District, and was a member and past President of the National Men's Council for the Church of the Brethren. He was a member and past President of the Kiwanis Club of Botetourt County, a former Director of the Botetourt County Chamber of Commerce, and former member and Chairman of the Botetourt Planning Commission. He was a charter member and Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals, and was instrumental in establishing the Blue Ridge Park in Botetourt County. He served on the Board of Directors of Weekday Religious Education, and was on the Board of Directors of the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Home in Brookneal, Virginia. He was a member and past President of the Blue Ridge Ruritan Club, and a life-long member of the American Red Cross, where he was a twenty-two gallon donor. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Florence Rieley Jonas; two sisters, Lela Jonas Sutphin (Mrs. Basil) of Portsmouth, Virginia and Frances Jonas Crumpacker (Mrs. Ned) of Roanoke. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, L. Leroy Jonas, Jr. and Katheryn Lehman Jonas of Annapolis, Maryland; one daughter, Marcia Jonas Holtzman of Mount Sidney; one sister, Evelyn Jonas Thomas of Roanoke; three granddaughters, Anne Marie Jonas and Allison Leigh Jonas of Annapolis, Maryland, Jill Holtzman Vogel and her husband, Alexander Nicholas Vogel of Warrenton; one grandson, William Todd Holtzman of Mount Jackson; one great-grandson, William Alexander Vogel of Warrenton; four nephews and two nieces. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 at 11 a.m., at the Blue Ridge Church of the Brethren with the Rev. J. Richard Gottshall and the Rev. Glenn D. Stevens officiating. Interment icon will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park in Salem. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel. PYBASS, Ruth Dillon

Ruth Dillon Pybass, 83, of Roanoke, died Friday, June 11, 2004. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and was retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway after 41 years of service. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Bertrand "Bert" Pybass. Surviving are three daughters, Maggie McDaniel and husband Mac, of Buchanan, Judy Campbell and husband C.D., of Amherst, Leisa Pybass Cooper of Bedford; two grandchildren, Amy Brammer of Roanoke, Melissa Johnson of Amherst; two great-grandchildren; brother, William "Bill" Dillon of South Dakota; and also many loving relatives and friends. Funeral services will be at Oakey's East Chapel, 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2004. Interment icon will be at Sherwood Memorial Park. ROWE, Joseph Jr.

Joseph Rowe Jr., 80, of Salem, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2004. He worked for Associated Transport, Spectre/Hennis Freight Lines and the City of Salem. He volunteered over 2500 hours at the V.A. Medical Center, belonged to the Ostomy Club, First Christian Church, Salem and V.F.W. Post 4318. Surviving are his beloved wife of 51 years, Helen Spence Rowe; son, Joe Rowe; daughter and son-in-law, Susie and Mike Craig; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Gayla Spence; grandchildren, Wililam and Salvacion Perez, Jay and Beth Rowe, Ricky and Lisa Rowe, Michelle Rowe, Brian and Memori Spence, Justin Spence; great-grandchildren, Justin, Brie, Meg, Jordan, Ciera, Abigale Rowe and Chloe Perez. Duncan of Roanoke, and Judy L. Wood of Hardy; sisters-in-law, Pete Wood of Bedford and Wilma Wood of Roanoke; brothers, Aubruy J. Wood of Bedford, James L. Wood of Roanoke, and Garland M. "Butch" Wood, Jr. of Hardy; brother-in-law, Donald Duncan of Roanoke; extended family, Patricia Hartless and Cherrie Rogers; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Lotz Vinton Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Hooper officiating. Interment icon will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. LYNCH, James Luther

James Luther (Fats) Lynch, 74, of Rocky Mount, died Saturday morning, June 12, 2004 at Franklin Health Care. He was born May 1, 1930, a son of the late John L. and Maggie Smith Lynch and was also preceded in death by three brothers, Curtis, Shelton and Jay Hugh Lynch. Surviving are sisters and brothers-in-law, Christine and Alfred Ellis, Rocky Mount, Shirley Mae Lynch, Betty and Wade Bowman, all of Bassett; sisters-in-law, Ruby Lynch and Mary Elizabeth Lynch; three nieces; and three nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel, 2 p.m. Monday. The Rev. Ronald Coleman and the Rev. Johnny Thompson officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Hodges-Lynch Family cemetery. Joan Armstrong Thurman, 78, of Rocky Mount, died on Friday June 11, 2004 at her home. Born in Birmingham, England, she was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Giles Monroe Thurman and by her parents, Walter L. and Mary E. Armstrong. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, John M. and Kathy Thurman of Douglasville, Ga.; her daughter and son-in-law, Carole T. and Jimmy B. Hodges of Redwood; her grandchildren, George Thomas Chapman II, Joshua and Garrett Thurman, Jackie and Brian Tarantino; her great-grandchild, Brandon Tarantino; step great-grandchildren, Brittany and Ethan Moore; her brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Peggy Armstrong of Pedmore, Stourbridge, England; sisters-in-law, Nannie Campbell, Naomi Campbell, and Margaret Thurman; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted husband, Ernest Finney; daughters, Lisa Huffman and husband, Greg, New London, N.C., and Krystal Finney; stepson, Everett Finney; grandsons, Joey Bayes and Keith Finney; brother, Taylor G. Belcher and wife, Lena, Hampton, Va.; sisters, Gloria Phillips and husband, Robert, Abingdon, Va., Carole Dickerson and husband, Roy, Blacksburg, Va., Teresa Billings and husband, Louis, Troutdale, Va.; twelve nieces, nine nephews, and many wonderful friends and church family. Edgar W. Melton, 77, of Elliston, passed away, Friday, June 11, 2004. He was a long-time brick mason and an avid hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel and Rebecca Carico Melton; sisters, Elva Conner, Martha Witt, Cora Lephew and Mary Melton; and brother, Rubin Melton. Surviving are his beloved wife of 54 years, Mary Jane Blankenship Melton; his children, David W. Melton and wife, Ginny, Don Melton and fianc?e, Juanita Wilson, Rodney Melton, and Roger Melton and wife, Rhonda, all of Elliston; sisters, Elsie Parrish of Elliston, Laura Cantu of Salem, and Isabelle Conner of Roanoke; brother, Frank Melton of Elliston; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday, June 14, 2004 at Lotz Salem Chapel. Interment icon will follow in Little Hope cemetery, Cove Hollow. BORASKI, Stephen John

Stephen John Boraski, of Richmond dedicated husband, father and civil servant went to be with Our Lord on Thursday, May 27, 2004 at the age of 59. He is survived by noel, his loving wife of 30 years, and his sons Derek and Michael., Also surviving is his younger sister, Sharon Helm and her husband and children, numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and many loving friends. Steve, an Air Force veteran and a graduate of the University of Memphis spent nearly 30 years serving as a probation officer with both the State of Virginia and the US government. As a member of Beulah United Methodist Church he enjoyed his Mariners Class and there chicken barbecues. He was an avid salmon fisherman. His family will receive friends fro 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). His funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, at the Beulah UMC, 6930 Hopkins Rd., Richmond, VA. Interment, to be announced. Charles Thomas Combs, 42, passed away Wednesday, June 9, 2004 in Middletown, NJ. Mr. Combs was raised in Sugar Grove, VA. and after serving his country in the United States Army, settled in New Jersey where he owned and operated a business. Survivors include his wife, Gail Sutton, Middletown, NJ; mother, Rosa Gaye Bennett, Sugar Grove, VA; two sons, Nigel Combs, Middletown, NJ and Kyle O'Donnell, Howell, NJ; daughter, Meagan O'Donnell, Howell, NJ; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Gayle and Rhonda Combs, Roanoke, VA and Aaron Bennett, Sugar Grove, VA; four special nieces, Amber Rose Bennett and Brittany Nicole Bennett of Sugar Grove, VA, Rachel Gayle Combs, Roanoke, VA and Robin Michelle Shortridge, Grundy, VA. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 14, 2004 at 7 p.m. from the Bradley's Funeral Chapel in Marion with Pastor Donald Medley and Pastor Joe Copolo officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
