Stuart Madison Baker, 45, of Blacksburg, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at his home. He was born in Roanoke, Va. on August 17, 1959. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Reggie Tuck and the Rev. Don MacNicoll officiating. Interment icon will follow in Westview cemetery, Blacksburg. Arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Dr., Blacksburg.

ELLIOTT, Rebecca Snider

Rebecca Snider (Becky) Elliott, 80, of Blacksburg, died Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the New River Valley Medical Center. She was born in Montgomery County, Virginia on April 30, 1924 to the late Harvey Jackson and Ress Elizabeth Price Snider. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Hadley Elliott; four sisters, Edith, Carrie, Nettie, and Julia; three brothers, Ivan, Toad, and Robert. She was a longtime member of the Fairview Community Church and retired in 1994 from V.P.I. & S.U. with 25 years of service. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila E. King of Christiansburg; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Jeanette Snider of Blacksburg; sister-in-law, Beulah Snider of Christiansburg; two grandchildren, Stacy Sumner of Roanoke, and Austin Elliott of Christiansburg; three special friends, Florence Allen, Mabel Long, and Tinnie Fisher; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the New River Valley Medical Center E.R. and ICU, and the Radford Nursing and Rehab Center for their loving care. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 17, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the McCoy Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmie Lee Price officiating. Interment icon will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Christiansburg. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Saturday, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday evening at McCoy Funeral Home, 150 Country Club Drive, SW, Blacksburg, Va.

GUYNN, Donald Eugene

Donald Eugene Guynn, 84, of Prices Fork, died Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at his home. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Prices Fork United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stan Thompson officiating. Viewing will be at the church from 10 a.m. until service time. Interment icon will follow in the Snider cemetery, Prices Fork. STALNAKER, Ernest O.

Ernest O. Stalnaker, 89, of Roanoke, went home to be with his Lord, Thursday, April 14, 2005. Born April 15, 1915, he was a son of the late George and Sarah Elizabeth Wilson Stalnaker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Stalnaker; and sisters, Hazel and Lena Jones and Lillian Teets. Mr. Stalnaker was a decorated U.S. Army World War II Veteran serving with the Army's 1st Armored Division in North Africa. He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church and retired from Cofer Construction. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Lucy Cofer Stalnaker, Daughter, Shirley Morck Williams and husband, Steve of Little Rock, Ark.; son, Ernie M. Stalnaker and wife, Pam of Roanoke; grandchildren, Stacy M. Graves and husband, Charley of Forest, Garth M. Morck and wife, Laura of Bedford, Mandy S. Torian and husband, Jeff, Matthew "Moose" Stalnaker, all of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Graves, Wesley Morck, Taylor Graves, Cameron Morck, Rachel Torian, Brady Torian; sisters, Margaret Trickett, Morgantown, W.Va., George Ann Cayton, West Augusta, Va.; brother-in-law, Wiley H. (Chink) Paitsel of Roanoke. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Lakeside Baptist Church, 447 Dalewood Avenue Salem, Va. 24153. A service celebrating Mr. Stalnaker's life will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Lakeside Baptist Church by the Rev. Art Hearne. WIRT, Diana Gallion

Diana Gallion Wirt, 89, of Salem, went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 15, 2005. She was a lifelong area resident and had recently lived at Richfield Retirement Center. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir. She loved family get-togethers, especially the Sunday family cookout. She was preceded in death in 1997 by her husband, Oakey McCoy Wirt; and a daughter, Margie Hartberger. Her surviving family include sons, Minor Oakey Wirt, and Doug McCoy Wirt and Margaret Craft; daughters and sons-in-law, Charlotte Ann and Paul Phoenix and Judy and Danny Stump; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Mildred Saffelle and numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Salem, with Pastor Roger Counts officiating. Interment icon will follow in East Hill cemetery in Salem. The family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.

FURROW, Buren L. Sr.

Buren L. (Bill) Furrow, Sr., 86, of Callaway, died Friday, April 15, 2005. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.

HURD, Ruth Elizabeth

Ruth Elizabeth Hurd, 61, of Radford, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005 at the New River Valley Medical Center. She was a retired employee of Radford Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Hill. Survivors include her husband, Edward R. Hurd; son, Robert Hurd of Radford; two stepdaughters, Connie Dickerson of Childress and Carol Dalton of Christiansburg; two grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Gallimore of Radford, and Ida Cox of Liberty, N.C.; and a special friend, John Egolf of Southern Pines, N.C. As per her wishes Mrs. Hurd was cremated and the services will be private. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to the Virginia Lung Association, P.O. La BELLE, Ronald Dale

Ronald Dale La Belle, 73, of Willis, feel asleep in the Lords arms after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer on Friday, April 15, 2005. He was retired as a meat cutter for 43 years, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, motorcycles and singing in the church choir when he was able. He was born in Akron, Ohio and preceded in death by parents, Frank and Myrtle La Belle. He is survived by wife, Betty La Belle, Willis, Va.; daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Ronald Smith, Akron, Ohio; son and fianc?e and her children, Shawn La Belle and Janeen McCurry, Ashley Hanson and Petey Koutris, Norton, Ohio; grandson, Craig Cook, Akron, Ohio; granddaughter, Nicole La Belle, Norton, Ohio; brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Shirley La Belle, Akron, Ohio; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2005 at the Willis United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lawrence Nuckolls officiating. In lieu of flowers. SMILEY, Rebecca Watts

Rebecca Watts Smiley, 64, of Roanoke, passed away on Thursday evening, April 14, 2005. She was a well known artist in the Roanoke Valley, and was the recipient of the President's Award at the 1974 Norfolk & Western Art Show. Mrs. Smiley was a former staff member at Virginia Tech. She grew up at Villa Heights Baptist Church, singing in the choir there. Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents, James Rufus and Elizabeth White Watts. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, John R. and Ana Smiley of Denver, Colo., Scott N. and Tonya Smiley of Harper's Ferry, W.Va.; three grandchildren, Rachel Ann, Sarah Marie, Elisabeth Ruth; two brothers and sisters-in-law, George D. And Suzanne Watts of Salem, Jack L. and Julie Watts of Boones Mill; a number of nieces and nephews; and a previous husband, Robert E. Smiley. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. David Tanner officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Rescue Mission of Roanoke (402 Fourth Street, S.E., Roanoke, Va. 24013). MILLER, Andrew Leonard Jr.

Andrew Leonard (Jim) Miller, Jr., 79, of Salem, passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2005. He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.L. "Pat", Sr. and Ida Miller; and a sister, Mary Ferrell. Surviving is his beloved wife of 60 years, Elsie Dudding Miller; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Linda Miller, Troutville; grandsons, Chris and wife, Sara, Andy and wife, Kristy; sisters and brother-in-law, Grethel and Frank Washbush, Lorraine "Sis" Helsher; brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Nellie Miller; and five great-grandchildren, Max, Nathan, Maddie, Bryce and Ramsey. Funeral services will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Bill McMahon officiating. Interment icon will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. LEONARD, Anna Elizabeth Wampler

Anna Elizabeth Wampler Leonard, 64, of Vinton, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005. Born September 3, 1940, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Lewis and Ackie Renfro Wampler. She was also preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters, James, Virgil and Denver Wampler, Louvilla Turner, Garnett Hopkins, Willa Mae Dettor and Margaret Wampler; and her husband, Hubert Earl Leonard. Surviving are four children, a daughter-in-law and a son-in-law, Andra Kay Austin and husband, Larry, Gregory Lynn Leonard, Jeffrey Allen Leonard, Jr. and wife, Teresa and Thomas Christopher Leonard; seven grandchildren, Tonya Wendall, Timothy Austin, Troy Austin, Katie Leonard, Douglas Leonard, Amanda Leonard and Jeffrey Leonard, Jr.; 11 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Marian Bates and June Oliver. Memorial services will be conducted at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 3 p.m. Saturday, April 16, 2005 with the Rev. Jeff Gardner officiating. Georgie Ellen Routt, 91, formerly of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 14, 2005. She was predeceased by her husband, Irvin Routt. Surviving are one son and daughter-inlaw, Irvin, Jr. and Kay Routt of Richmond; grandchildren, Martin Routt of Richmond, David Routt of Vinton, Morgan and his wife, Christine of Alexandria, Kallen and his wife, Jessica of Oregon, Kenneth Routt of Richmond. Funeral services will be conducted at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Monday, April 18, 2005 at 11 a.m. with Msgr. Thomas Miller officiating. Interment icon will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, Sunday, 2 to 4 p.m.

SANDY, Bob M.

Bob M. Sandy, 55, of Salem, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 13, 2005. He was grew up in Homercity, Pa. and moved to the area in 1994. He was a 9th grade Earth Science teacher at Hidden Valley high School. Teaching was his life and in 1992, he was voted Earth Science Teacher of the Year in Virginia. He received his Master and undergraduate degree from Edinboro University in Erie, Pa. He had a great love for astronomy and photography, with numerous pieces of his work published over the years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Sandy. His surviving family include a daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Troy Yenser; granddaughter, Lauren Marie Yenser; brothers, Del and James Sandy; a fianc?e, Carmen Lang; numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 7 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Salem. The family will receive friends following the service until 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. SCHILLING, Debra

Debra Schilling, 54, of Roanoke, passed away on April 10, 2005, surrounded by her children. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Debra moved to the Roanoke area almost three years ago as a pharmaceutical technician and built her dream house on Green Ridge Road. Diagnosed with a brain tumor last March, Debra relied on her faith in God to continue smiling, laughing, and enjoying life. A lover of crafts and antique shopping, she was an inspirational woman who wanted only for her children and loved ones to be so happy. Known for her humor, kindness, giving spirit, and love of chocolate, Debra will be greatly missed and remembered as a great mother, sister, daughter, friend and colleague. She is survived by her two children, daughter, Lisa, 22, a graduating college senior and Ryan, 24, of Seattle. A memorial service will be held at the Unity Church of Roanoke Valley, 3300 Green Ridge Road, N.W., Sunday, April 17, at 6 p.m. to celebrate and remember Debra's life. BRYANT, Mack Leonard Jr.

Mack (Max) Leonard Bryant, Jr., 36, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 14, 2005. He was born on April 23, 1968 in Bristol, Va. and was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Robert E. and Myrtle Blanch Bryant of Glade Spring; maternal grandparents, Raymond and Madeline Shough of Martinsville. Surviving are his parents, Max L. Bryant, Sr. and Gloria Jean Bryant of Bristol, Va. He also leaves behind his loving wife, Gwendolyn Bryant; and two children, Sarah and Cody Bryant, of the home; a brother, Neil Clark of Roanoke; two sisters, Tammy Niday of Fincastle, Dawn Link of Bristol. He was a wonderful uncle to five nephews and four nieces, all of Roanoke; a wonderful in-law to Wayne and Mary Boothe, and will be sadly missed by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many dear friends. Max died doing what he loved to do, and that was repoing for Fat Boys for eight years. Special thanks to Aubrey and Sandy for loving and caring about our special Max. Nancy Marie Canode, 74, of Paint Bank, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover L. Canode. She is survived by three sisters, Polly Altice, Zenna Black, and Reba Black; several nieces and nephews, including Tommy Black. BLOUNT, Elizabeth Oyler

Elizabeth Oyler Blount, 94, of Roanoke, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2005. She was the last of the eleven children of the late Daniel T. and Martha Ollie Oyler. Mrs. Blount was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. She retired from Eli Lilly. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Martha A. and John A. Kreider of Roanoke; grandsons, John Jay Kreider and wife, Vicki and Kurt Lee Kreider and wife, Terri; two greatgrandchildren, Lee and Brooke Elizabeth Kreider, all of Roanoke; and a number of nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Oakland Baptist Church, 3623 Roundhill Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24012. A graveside funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2005, in Evergreen Burial Park. BISHOP, Duane T.

Duane T. (Tommy) Bishop, 45, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, April 14, 2005. He was preceded in death by his father, William Bishop; and a sister, Sheila Gayle Bishop. Tommy served with the 82nd Airborne Division, 407th S & S Battalion. Surviving are his children, Duane T. Bishop, Jr. of Roanoke, Ashley L. Bishop, Aija M. Cable and mother, Vivian Cable of Shawsville; mother and stepfather, Shirley Bishop Snyder and husband, Kenneth of Roanoke, brother, Robert G. Bishop and wife, Jan of Vinton; sister, Robin Bishop Johnson, Houston, Texas; half brother, William C. Bishop, Jr. of Blue Ridge; nephews, Christopher Johnson, Daniel and David Bishop; longtime friend, Walter Heath of Roanoke. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the doctors, nurses and staff at both the VA Medical Center in Salem and the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville for their kind and compassionate care. CONNER, Maybelle Boggess

Maybelle Boggess Conner, 95, of Farmingdale, N.J. and formerly of Troutville, Va., passed peacefully, Thursday, April 14, 2005. Maybelle was born February 10, 1910 to the late William E. and Emma Boggess. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene B. Conner; one son, Wayne A. Conner; brothers, Talmage and Carl Boggess; and sister, Lillian Dodd. She was a retired school teacher from Botetourt County, a member of the Fincastle Order of the Eastern Star, as well as a faithful member of Bible Brethren Church in Troutville, where she played the organ every time the doors where open. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Gerald and Ruth Conner of Farmingdale, N.J.; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Bob Gould of California; grandchildren and spouses, Tina and Mark Bonds, Troutville, Va., Robert and Katina Conner, Nephi, Utah, Tracy Conner, Troutville, Va., Pride and Beth Conner, Howell, N.J., Derek and Karole Proffitt, California, Shannon and Melissa Conner, Mooresville, N.C., W. Eugene Conner, Nephi, Utah; and 16 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2005 at Oakey's North Chapel. Interment icon will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2005 at Oakey's North Chapel.

Pauline Long (Granny) Fitzgerald, 81, of Salem, went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, April 12, 2005. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Mandred R. "Sonny" Fitzgerald, Sr.; a daughter, Faye Knotts, Ocala, Fla.; three sons and daughters-in-law, M.R., Jr. and Penny Fitzgerald, Maryville, Tenn., Ben Wade Fitzgerald and friend, Anita, Ocala, Fla., Barry and Janet Fitzgerald of Salem; grandsons, Russ and his wife, April, Salem, Trevor, Ocala, Fla., and Kevin, Maryville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren, Brian, Whitney and Jordan. Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Saturday, April 16, 2005 at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Chris Kingery officiating. Interment icon will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
