HOUSEMAN, Dennis Forest

Denis Forest Houseman, 56, of Wytheville, Va., passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005 in Wythe County Community Hospital. Dennis attended the New Bethel United Methodist Church, and was a member of Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge #226, A.F. & A.M. He was preceded in death by his father, Grover Forest Houseman. He is survived by his wife, Peggy Maxey Houseman; a son, Brian Forest Houseman; his mother, Eva Miller Houseman; a brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Rhonda Houseman, all of Wytheville; his mother-in-law, Joan C. Maxey, brothers-in-law and spouses, David and Iva Maxey, of Crockett, Rodney and Brenda Maxey, of Rural Retreat; three nieces and spouses, Jennifer and Charlie Mlynski, of Wytheville, Brittany Maxey, and Maranda and Levi Davidson, all of Rural Retreat; two nephews, Michael Houseman, of Wytheville, Craig Maxey, of Rural Retreat; special friend, Kay Clark, of Rural Retreat. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 31, 2005 at the New Bethel United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Grogg officiating. Interment icon will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, evening at the Lindsey Funeral Home with a Masonic Memorial service being held at 8 p.m. by Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge #226 or friends may call at the residence at any time. The family suggests that those who prefer, may make memorials to the Rural Retreat Volunteer Emergency Services or to the New Bethel cemetery Fund. Lindsey Funeral Home, Rural Retreat, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

HUBBARD, Leonard Hampton

Mr. Leonard Hampton Hubbard, 70, of Meadows of Dan, passed away Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born in Patrick County on July 19, 1935 to the late Charlie Dan Hubbard and India Mae Wood Hubbard. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hubbard was preceded in death by an infant son, Joseph Andrew Hubbard, and three infant sisters. He was a member of Parkway Church of the Brethren, and was a retired supervisor from Bassett-Walker/VF Industries with 43 years of service. Mr. Hubbard is survived by his wife, Iva Jane Belcher Hubbard of the home; one son, Todd Hampton Hubbard and wife, Wendy of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Emilyne, Lauren and Caroline Hubbard; four brothers, Luther, Eugene, Raymond and Howard Hubbard, all of Meadows of Dan; one sister, Lelia Hubbard of Ferrum. Funeral services for Mr. Hubbard will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Danny Gilley officiating. Burial will follow in the Hubbard Family cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. If desired, memorials may be made to the Vesta Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 238, Vest, Va. 24177.

JETER, Doris Chapman

Doris Chapman Jeter, 75, of Covington, died, Wednesday, December 28, 2005. Funeral service will be held Monday at 1 p.m. at Pine Street Baptist Church in Covington. Arrangements by Arritt Funeral Home.

NECESSARY, Clifford Russell

Clifford Russell Necessary, of Tazewell, Va. died Wednesday, December 28, 2005. He was born April 10, 1930 at Tannersville, Va. After graduating from Rich Valley High, Clifford joined the Air Force in September of 1948, and served for four years during the Korean Conflict, as an airplane mechanic. After graduating from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1963, Clifford and his wife, June moved to Richmond, Va., and he began working for Virginia Electric Power Company. Clifford moved his family to Tazewell, Va. in 1967, when he accepted a position as Town Manager of Tazewell, a position he held until 1976. Clifford then worked for Island Creek Coal Company as Supervisor of Maintenance and Construction, until he retired in 1991. Clifford began shooting bow and arrow as a child when his grandfather made him a bow. Clifford was VA State Champion of the bare bow from 1962 through 1965; VA State Freestyle Champion 1967; Mid Atlantic Champion 1964 and 1965; National Bare Bow Archery Champion 1964, 1965, and 1966. He won the 1964 National Field Archery Association, Men's National Championship, shooting an aggregate score of 2,537. This broke all existing NFAA Championship Tournament records held by instinctive archers. He was a member of the Rich Valley Masonic Lodge, American Legion, Retreads Motorcycle Club, and the NRA. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife of 43 years, June Neal Necessary; three sons, Russell Ray and Anne Brewster Necessary and their children, Mollie and Kameron Necessary, and Trevor Taylor of Tazewell, Va.; Andrew Neal and Kelly Combs Necessary and their children, Spenser, Carter, Conner, and Parker Necessary of Tazewell, Va.; Terence Kirk and Joyce Sparks Necessary, of Tannersville, Va., and Kirk's stepchildren, Karen Cole and Joe McCall and their children, Brittany Allen and Joey McCall of Richlands, Va., and Shannon Cole and Larry Johnson and their children, Kayla and Lindsey Johnson of Maryland; and one sister, Pauline Faye Necessary of Tannersville, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2005 at Peery & St.Clair Funeral Home Chapel in Tazewell, VA with visitation at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2005.

BUSH, Edith Viola McCoy

Edith Viola McCoy Bush, 89, of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, December 20, 2005. Living her life to honor her Lord, she and her husband served with the Home Mission Board of the SBC in Pennsylvania from 1958 1975. She was an active volunteer at Friendship Manor and a faithful member of North Roanoke Baptist Church until the day she went to be with Jesus. Being a devoted wife of 71 years and a loving mother she is survived by her husband, Rev. Carl U. Bush; daughter and son in law, Patricia B. and James L. Power; grandchildren, Nanette Power Offenbacker and husband, H.L. Offenbacker and children, Matthew Offenbacker, Christine Rickman and husband, Justin Rickman, Paulette Power Parkhill and husband, D. Jeffrey Parkhill and children, Andrea N. Martin, Amy E. Parkhill, Tod Parkhill, James L. Power IV and children, Casey Burgess, Raymond Scott Power and wife, Theresa Power and children, Danielle Power, Jared Power, Carl Utt Power and wife, Kristi Power and children, Madison Power; three greatgreat-grandchildren; sister, Barbara R. Holston. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2005 at Oakey's North Chapel with Pastor Mitchell Turner officiating. The interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. CONNER, Aida Theresa

Aida Theresa Conner, 79, of Roanoke, passed away at home Tuesday, December 20, 2005 surrounded by the love and support of her family and friends. She is predeceased by 2 of her 11 children, Patrick Conner and Dennis Gregson. She is survived by her spouse, Owen Wesley and nine children, from Hampton, Va., Diana Bosta and best friend, Carla Young, Susan Mcgee and spouse, Tim, Cyndi Conner and best friend, Steve; from Roanoke, Wesley Conner, David Conner and spouse, Daisy, Peggy Yeakle and spouse, Paul, Wayne Conner, Eric Conner, Elaine Mowbray and spouse, Donnie Mowbray, Jr.; grandchildren, Danielle Mowbray, Danielle Towns and spouse, Shane, Anton Bosta, Jessica Reynolds and best friend, Nell, Bobby Reynolds and spouse, Stephanie, David Conner Jr., Damion Kogut and spouse, Kim, Shane Kogut, Timothy Mcgee, Dana Kogut; great-grandchildren, Tyeshia, Tyler and Tyrese Towns, Lauren and Ethan Reynolds, Jonathan, Joshua and Peyton. Aida was an Italian who loved to play bingo. She loved to feed the seagulls and go crabbing in Hampton, Va. She loved to listen to the BEEGEES. She loved to roller skate, bowl and dance. Her favorite color was orange. She had strawberry blonde hair with big beautiful brown eyes and a smile that would light up the room. She never met a stranger and always put the needs of others before her own. Though she will be missed, her spirit will always be in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. To all she was a best friend, a girlfriend and a mother. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Stavola and all of the other doctors and nurses who took great care of her. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrews Catholic Church, Jefferson Street, Roanoke on Friday, December 23 at 3 p.m. with Msg. Tom Miller officiating. COPENHAVER, Sarah Mae

Sarah Mae Copenhaver, 2 weeks old, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 21, 2005. Surviving are her parents, Jim and Lisa Copenhaver; twin sister, Emma Grace Copenhaver; grandparents, Thomas "Ed" and Martha Belcher, William B., Jr. and Donna J. Copenhaver; great-grandfather, William B., Sr., and Colleen Copenhaver; aunt and uncle, Cara and Ronnie Jones; many extended family and loving friends. Graveside services will be in Sherwood Memorial Park at 11 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2005. Dr. Jay Owen will officiate. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 989-3131.

CORNELIUS, June Marie Hancock

June Marie Hancock Cornelius, 75, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2005. She served with the U.S. Marine Corps with the rank of Corporal, and worked for the Department of Defense. June was a member of Poages Mill Church of the Brethren and is survived by her husband of 40 years, Charles "Ike" Cornelius; one daughter, Debbie Glovier Kavanaugh; one sister and brother-in-law, Audrey and Milton King; sisters-in-law, Doris Passwater, Faye Holloway and her husband, Bill; a niece, Diane Bouldin and her husband, Don; nephews, Doug King and his wife, Kathy, Dickie King and his wife, Kay; and several other nieces and nephews. We would like to express a special thanks to the many Health Care Professionals for their loving care given to our loved one. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2005 at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Maurice E. Wright and Pastor Jimmy Robinson officiating. MAGIER, Nina Gregory

Nina Gregory Magier, MD, 95, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005. She was the widow of Vladimir Magier, MD. Born in Poland, she was Ukrainian, Greek Orthodox by faith, and a member of Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Roanoke since 1959. Twice, she was elected and served on the Church Council. She received her Medical Degree in 1938 from the University of Stephan Batory in Vilno, Poland, and at that time, she had a rotating internship in Pediatrics, and later, a residency in Pediatrics in Germany. The family came to the U.S.A. in October of 1949 to Illinois. After one year of rotating internship and examinations, she became a licensed physician and worked for five years with Mentally Retarded children in Lincoln, Illinois. From 1956 through 1959, Dr. Magier was Resident in Psychiatry at the V.A. Hospital in Albany, New York. In 1961, she was certified by the American Board of Neurology and Psychiatry, with additional certification in Geropsychiatry. She was also a Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. From July 1959 through July 1986, she was a Psychiatrist on the Staff of the V.A. Medical Center in Salem, Virginia, serving in different capacities. She also became Associate Professor of Psychiatry in the Medical School of the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Virginia, and additionally, served as a consultant at the Catawba Hospital in Catawba, Virginia, with special focus in Geriatric Psychiatry. Dr. Magier was a member of numerous professional organizations on the local, National and International level, serving repeatedly as a Delegate from the American Medical Women's Association to the International Medical Women's Association Congresses. In 1988, she was honored by Bnai' Brith Christian-Jew Brother/ Sisterhood. She is survived by her son, Igor Magier, MD; two grandsons, Alexei Magier and Gregory Magier; first cousin, Lydia Sezedynski, MD; many cousins in the U.S.A. and abroad; special friend and caregiver, Judy Heitz. A Trisagion Prayer Service will be at Oakey's South Chapel, 7 p.m. Thursday, December 22, 2005. Funeral services will be at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 11 a.m. Friday, December 23, 2005. The Rev. Dean Nastos will officiate. Interment icon will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Oakey's South Chapel on Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, 30 Huntington Blvd., N.E., Roanoke, Va. 24012, or to the American Medical Women's Association Scholarship Fund for women Medical Students, 801 N. MITCHELL, Ruby Archer

Ruby Archer Mitchell, 98, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, December 22, 2005. She was preceded in death by her husband, of 68 years, Thomas Edward (Eddie) Mitchell. She was a dedicated member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church. Mrs. Mitchell retired after 31 years of service with the American Viscose Corporation and eleven years with Rose's Department Store. She is survived by a number of cousins. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Huntington Court United Methodist Church 3333 Williamson Road Roanoke, Va. 24012. A graveside service will be conducted 3 p.m. Friday, December 23, 2005 in Sherwood Memorial Park by the Rev. Russell M. Cheatham. Parks, Paul Richard

Paul Richard Parks, 85, of Roanoke, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening December 21 2005. Paul was born in Grayson County on March 29, 1920 a son of the late, John and Ollie Parks. He served in US Army during World War II as a medic, was a member of the American Legion and a former member of the Lions Club. He was a retired barber and owner of Cactus Club Barber Shop at Crossroads mall. Paul was preceded in death by his brother, Virgil Parks; sisters, Magdelene Bolt, Thelma Lee Manus, Madge Coble; and his loving wife, Virginia Cooley Parks. Surviving are his son, Paul Carson Parks and wife, Sherry B. Parks, of Roanoke; his granddaughter, Brandy L. Parks; his brothers, Cornett Parks, Arthur Parks, both of Galax. A funeral service will be held at Oakey's East Chapel Saturday, December 24, 12 noon with the Rev. Ronnie Morris officiating. Interment icon in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with military honors. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Oakey's East Chapel.

STEVENS, Doris Allen Marshall

Doris Allen Marshall Stevens, 81, of Fincastle, died peacefully at her home Tuesday, December 20, 2005. She was active in the farming community, an avid gardener and homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Orborn Marshall and Nellie Allen Ageon Marshall; sisters-in-law, Jacqueline "Jackie" Camper Marshall, Genevieve Jamison Marshall, and Imogene Turner Marshall. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Warren Lorraine Stevens; children, Susan Stevens Myers and husband, Harold of Troutville, David Allen Stevens and wife, Evelyn of Fincastle, and Connie Stevens Robeson and husband, Steve of Berryville, Va.; grandchildren, Marshall Haden Myers and wife, Kristie of Troutville, Susanne Myers Marshall and husband, Matt of Vinton; great-grandchildren, Bryce Alexander Marshall and Kayla Marie Myers; brothers and sisters-in-law, J. Eldridge and Elizabeth "Liz" Marshall, Billy B. Marshall, and Gerald A. and Linda Marshall, all of Buchanan; uncle, Noble G. Marshall of Roanoke; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and many special friends, including Margaret Harlow Camper. The family would like to thank the staff of Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Brian Center Nursing Care Staff, the Troutville, Fincastle, and Eagle Rock Rescue Squads, the Carilion Hospice, and many friends and neighbors for their care and thoughtfulness during Mrs. Stevens' illness, especially Tina Prophet.
