James J. Thompson

James Jasper Thompson Sr. of Albemarle, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002.

He was born January 13, 1924 in Albemarle County.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Scott Thompson and his father, Charles Thompson; two sons, Frankie Lee Thompson and Francis Joseph Thompson Sr.; two brothers, Junis Thompson and Charles W. Thompson.

He was a life time member of Wake Forest Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He was active in all areas of the church.

He was employed at Frank IX & Sons for 43 plus years. He also worked at the University of Virginia Medical Center Emergency Room for 25 years and until his sickness he worked at Reid's Supermarket.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 57 years, Harriett Monroe

Thompson; four sons and their wives, James Thompson Jr. and Evelyn of Esmont, Sherman Thompson Sr. and Katherine of Charlottesville, Charles Thompson Sr. and Norma of Charlottesville, and Timothy Thompson and Donna of Fluvanna; a daughter-in-law, Sallie Thompson of Troy; three daughters: Marie Moore of Hinesville, Ga.; Ivonia Taylor of Charlottesville; and Ann Anderson and her husband, Artie of Keswick; three brothers and their wives; John Thompson Sr. and Betty of Pittsburgh, Pa.; Ernest Thompson Sr. and Lillimae, and Ordell Thompson Sr. and Geneva; two sisters- in-law, Della Thompson of Philadelphia, Pa. and Leona Thompson of Baltimore Md. 27 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wake Forest Baptist Church at with the Rev. Sherman Collins officiating. Interment icon will follow at Oakwood cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday evening at the J. F. Bell Funeral Home Chapel.

The family wishes to express appreciation and sincere thanks to Hospice of the Piedmont, Charlottesville Fire Department, Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad, and the doctors and staff of Martha Jefferson Hospital.

Sandra Ellen Tyler

Funeral services for Sandra Ellen Brown Tyler will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison with interment in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church cemetery. The Rev. Brian Wagner will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jacqueline Williams

Jacqueline M. Williams, 72, of Orange, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2002, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

She was the daughter of the late Edward Lee. And Liona Bell Marsh. Mrs. Williams was a retired Knitter with Liberty Fabrics and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Gordonsville.

Survivors include her husband, Carl Hunter "Tom" Williams of Orange; two daughters, Carolyn Jean Snow of Orange and Glenda Darlene Clore of Madison; one son, Larry Franklin "Moe" Wilson of Orange; three step-children, Steve Moubray, Debbie Rowlen, and Melisa Sprouse; two sisters; Kathleen Miller of Virginia Beach, and Billie Brown of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; seven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two cats, Max and Sassy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Orange with interment in Maplewood cemetery, Gordonsville. Pastor Roy Giles and Pastor Miles VanSkike will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Orange.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the New Hope Baptist Church of Gordonsville, P.O. Box 360 Gordonsville, Va. 22942 or the Lake of Woods Rescue Squad, 104 Lakeview Parkway, Locust Grove, Va. 22508, or the Orange County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 446, Orange, Va. 22960.

Louise Payne Yowell

A funeral service for Louise Payne Yowell will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Carlton officiating. Interment icon will follow at Monticello Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edna C. Arrington

Funeral services for Edna Carlean Hicks Arrington will be held at 10 a.m. today with the Rev. Frank Hall officiating. Interment icon will be at noon Wednesday in Stafford Memorial Park, Stafford.

Ethel Floyd Castle

Ethel Dawson Castle, 86 of Charlottesville, died peacefully at her home on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002.

Born April 24, 1916, in Campbell County she was the daughter of the late Flunroy W. and Sallie Carr Woodall. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garnett B. Castle; three sisters, Ruth McVay, Dorothy Woodall, and Mary Irby; a brother, Walter Woodall and a grandson, Steven W. Castle.

She is survived by a devoted daughter, Geneva Hensley; a son, Earl Castle both of Charlottesville; five sisters, Sarah Moore of Greenville, South Carolina, Frances Nickels of Hurt, Virginia, Trudy Rowland of Charlottesville, Edna Barnard of Altavista, Virginia, Katie Dalton of Lynchburg and one sister-in-law, Betty Woodall also of Altavista; five grandchildren, Bruce Hensley and his wife Kathy of Gordonsville, Lance Hensley of Mclean, Virginia, Kevin Hensley and his wife Diane of Ivy, Velida H. Tyree and her husband David of Keswick; and Brianna Hubbard of Fluvanna County; six great grandchildren; l great-great- grandchild and three step great grandchildren.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Hospice of the Piedmont for the care and loving support shown to Mrs. Castle and her family during her illness.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at Hill & Wood Chapel with Mr. Stan Martin officiating. Interment icon will follow in Riverview cemetery.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mt. Place, Suite 200 Charlottesville, Virginia 22911.

A memorial service for Yerby Pannill Colom will be held at 1 p.m. today at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Ivy, with the Rev. Miller Hunter officiating.

Marian E. Conway

Marian Elizabeth Conway of Charlottesville, departed this life on Monday, Nov. 11, 2002, at a local nursing home.

She was born October 9, 1926, in Charlottesville, the daughter of the late Wesley Wallace Payne and Lottie White Payne.

She gained her formal education from Jefferson High School in Charlottesville. She was a member of Zion Union Baptist Church for a number of years where she was active on the Usher Board. Her reputation as an excellent cook allowed her to work for a number of years in many of the Fraternity Houses at the University of Virginia.

She possessed a special touch with children and especially enjoyed spoiling her nieces and nephews whenever the chance arose.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Alphonso Payne, Wallace Payne, Jr. and Wallace Forest.

Her survivors include a brother Lloyd Brown of Charlottesville; two sisters, Mary Kelly of Charlottesville, and Katherine Paige of Washington D.C.; a sister-in-law Margaret Brown of Charlottesville; five nieces, Joan Kelly of Miami, Florida, Joyce Mallory of Palmyra, Sylvia Zajic of Denver, Colo., Keli Pryor of Stone Mountain, Ga., and Monique Fountain of Staunton; three nephews, Arthur Gousby, III of New York City, N.Y., Raleigh Stallworth Mallory of Palmyra, and Lloyd Payne of Delaware; a great nephew Aidan C. Zajic of Denver, Colo.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of the J.F. Bell Funeral Home. Interment icon will follow in Oakwood cemetery.

Rhonda Lynn Farish

A memorial service for Rhonda Lynn Farish will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Hill & Wood Chapel, with the Rev. Ray Stark officiating. Interment icon will be private.

Francis T. Gregg

Francis Taylor Gregg, of Charlottesville, died in her sleep, Monday Nov. 11, 2002.

She resided with her husband, the late Norman L. Gregg, in their home "Dejavu", Charlottesville, for many years, until her passing in Richmond.

Known locally as a wife, mother, artist, and poet. She is survived by her children, Robin and Taylor; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

A family graveside service will be held St. Paul's of Ivy, Charlottesville.

John Kirwan Jones

Graveside funeral services for John Kirwan "Jack" Jones will be held at 11 a.m. today in Graham cemetery, Orange, with the Rev. John Grotz officiating. The funeral will be followed by a Masonic Service by Independent Orange Masonic Lodge No. 138 A.F. & A.M.

Joseph N. King

Joseph Nathaniel King, 63, of Louisa, died Thursday Nov. 7, 2002.

Born or November 26, 1939, he was the son of the late Harry Burdell King and Betty Florene Hayes of Charlottesville and a step-father, Bishop Rufus Hayes of Charlottesville.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth N. King and his wife, Sandra, of Mankota, Minn., and J. Andre King and his wife, Camilla, of Manassas; his sister, Eleanor Alston, of Charlottesville; two step-sisters, Diane Richmond, of Seat Pleasant, Md., and Shirley Cook, of Oxen Hill, Md.; his brother, Harry King and his wife, Michelle, of Harrisburg, Pa.; his step-brothers, Rufus Hayes, of Washington D.C., and Charles Hayes, of Charlottesville; five grandchildren, Brittney, Kenneth, Kenneth II, and Jaquise King, of Mankota, Minn., and Natalie King, of Manassas; and a host of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will take place at noon today at the First Bibleway Church, Route 613, Louisa, with Pastor Elder Robert Christmas officiating, and the Bishop Rufus Hayes as the Eulogist. Interment icon will be in the Stewart Family cemetery, Louisa.

Visitation will take place from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. today at the First Bibleway Church, Louisa.

James R. Likens

A funeral service for James R. Likens will be held at 11 a.m. today at Ryan Funeral Chapel, Quinque, with interment in Mt. Olivet cemetery in McGaheysville. The Rev. Dan Carlton will officiate.

Virginia D. Lynch

Virginia Davis Riddle Lynch, of Norfolk, died Sunday, Nov. 10, 2002, at Autumn Care of Norfolk.

She was born in Harrisonburg, to the late Harriet F. and Brown O. Riddle.

She was retired from L. Snyders Department Store, Ames and Brownley. She was a member of Royster Memorial Presbyterian Church and Kings Daughters.

Virginia was the widow of Hosley Alfred Lynch.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy L. Lalone; her grandson, David Lalone, of Virginia Beach; her granddaughter, Mary Virginia Lalone, of Houston Texas; two brothers, Linwood Riddle and Ashby Riddle, of Norfolk, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today in Riverview cemetery.

Irnell D. Maddox

Irnell Dickinson Maddox, 88, of Louisa, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2002.

She was a daughter of the late Ryland Saunders Dickinson and Betsye Massie Dickinson.

She was a member of Louisa United Methodist Church, charter member of Louisa KS Club, member of the United Methodist Women, and a former member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Louisa Fire Department.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Betsye M. and Calvert L. Compton, of Louisa, and Nancy M. and Bradley T. Pleasants, of Louisa; a brother, Massie E. Dickinson, of Lanham, Md.; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth M. Orrock, of Portsmouth; grandchildren, Cal and Chris Compton, Brad Pleasants and his wife, Susan, and Michael Pleasants and his wife, Kerrie; great-grandchildren, Tucker and Travis Pleasants.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Woodward Funeral Home, Louisa, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Michael Kubat officiating. Interment icon will be in Hill Crest cemetery, Louisa.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Louisa United Methodist Church P.O. Box 217 Louisa, Va. 23093.

Lacy Yowell Ould

A graveside service for Lacy Yowell Ould will be held at noon today in the Maplewood cemetery.

The family will receive visitors from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at Third Presbyterian Church, Richmond, where a service of witness to the resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday.
