David B. Dansey

David Brantly Dansey, 38, of Scottsville died Sunday July 20, 2003 at his home.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Loving Dansey; three daughters, Emily Loving Dansey, Virginia Brantly Dansey, and Olive Ann Dansey; his parents, George W. Dansey and Jean M. Dansey; a brother, Douglas W. Dansey; a sister, Daphine Jung; and a uncle, E. Leroy Dansey.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday July 24, 2003 at St. Johns Episcopal Church, Scottsville with the Reverend Dr. J. Edwin Pippin and the Reverend Peter Way officiating.

Interment will follow in Scottsville cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of David and Ann Dansey on Wednesday July 23 between 7-8:30 p.m.

The family suggest memorial contributions be made to the Scottsville Volunteer Fire Department or St. Annes Episcopal Parish.

Annie P. Greer

Annie Parrish Greer, 88, of Palmyra died July 19, 2003 in Winterhaven Assisted Living in Charlottesville.

She was born November 13, 1914 in Fluvanna County, daughter of the late William James and Bettie Norcross Parrish.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Francis Greer and a grandson, Charles Martin Greer.

Mrs. Greer was a faithful member of Cunningham United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one son, Charles H. Greer and wife, Peggy; one daughter, Judith G. Southworth and husband, Henry; one brother, Wendell Parrish; two sisters, Katherine Gianniny and Elizabeth Wills; four grandchildren, Adam Greer, Kimberly Benedict, Laurie Thompson and Andrea Southworth-Weiss; and five great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 22 at the Cunningham United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Emerson Shelton and Rev. Frank Schumaker will officiate.

The remains will lie in state at the church one hour before the service. Family will receive friends at the church following the service.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Lake Monticello Rescue Squad or the Albemarle Rescue Squad.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staffs of Winterhaven Assisted Living and Hospice of the Piedmont for the care shown to Mrs. Greer.

Bernice R. Jarrell

Bernice Reynolds Jarrell, 93, of Gordonsville died Monday July 21, 2003 at the Orange Nursing Home.

Born July 14, 1910 in Gordonsville she was a daughter of the late William Edward Reynolds and Evan Kennon Reynolds. She was the wife of the late, William Nelson Jarrell. Mrs. Jarrell was a member of the Gordonsville Baptist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Shirley J. Tucker and her husband Edwin of Gordonsville; one son, Ronald B. Jarrell and his wife Jen of Gordonsville; one brother, Kenneth Reynolds and his wife Madeline of Richmond; one sister, Evelyn R. Butler of Warrenton; four grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was also preceded in death by one sister, Carrie R. Utz; five brothers, William Reynolds, Stuart Reynolds, Albert Reynolds, John Reynolds Sr. and George Reynolds.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday July 23, 2003 at the Gordonsville Baptist Church with interment to follow in Maplewood cemetery. The Rev. Carmon Hartsfield will officiate.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Gordonsville Baptist Church and ask that Memorial Contributions be made to the Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 926 Gordonsville, Va. 22942.

Rae Ann Johnson

Rae Anna "Sue" Johnson, 77, passed over peacefully on Friday July 18, 2003, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. Her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mark Schuyler, her son Steve Johnson, and the grandchildren she adored, Pandora Crounse, Max Crounse, Tania Johnson, and Garnett Schuyler, survive her.

A private memorial will be held to celebrate her life and to remember the love she shared with each of us.

In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial contribution to a charity or non-profit organization you support wholeheartedly- she’d like that a lot.

Delores D. Jones

Delores "Dee Dee" Davis Jones, 40, of 2111 Michie Drive #33 B Charlottesville, Va.

Departed this life July 17, 2003 in Lynchburg General Hospital after a brief illness.

She was the wife of David Lee Jones. Born in Lynchburg, Va.

She was the daughter of Doris W. Davis of Los Angles California and Ulyesses C. Davis of Lynchburg, Va.

She attended Christ Temple Holiness Church.

In addition to her parents she is survived by a son Robert "Bobby" Wheat Jr. and wife Keri; a grandson Robert Wheat III; one sister, Hariette Jeanette Davis of Johnstown, Pa.; 3 brothers, Bonnie Davis of Lynchburg, Emmanuel Davis of Dayton, Oh. and Keith Harper; a step son Jay C. Smith; two step grandchildren, Jaylin Smith and Jay C Smith Jr. of Charlottesville. She is also survived by her maternal grandmother Willie May Thornton of Lynchburg, Va. Paternal grandmother Georgia Davis of Ivor, Va. and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Jackie Jefferson 901 Hancock Street.

Funeral services will be conducted today at 11 a.m. in the Riverfront Chapel Pastor Alfred Key II officiating.

Interment in Forest Hill Burial Park.

The family and friends will assemble at the Chapel at 10:45 a.m. Services by Franklin Funeral Home.

Pauline E. Kinzie

A memorial service for Pauline Elizabeth Garst Kinzie will be held in celebration of her life in the chapel of the Bridgewater Retirement Community in Bridgewater, Va. on Sunday, July 27, 2003 at 3 p.m. The family will welcome friends in the chapel following the service.

Arrangements are being handled by Hill and Wood Funeral Home is Charlottesville, Va.

Early Lawson

Early Lawson, 85, of Barboursville passed away July 21, 2003 in Charlottesville. He was born September 9, 1933 in Greene County, a son of the late, Grines and Sally Ann Davis Lawson.

He is survived by two daughters, Janet McSwingan of Park Hill, Ky. and Beverly Bibb of Charlottesville.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Holly Memorial Gardens.

A special thanks to Sharon Abell for her care and Kindess.

Juanita McGee

A graveside funeral service for Juanita (Dolly) McGee will be held on today, at 1 PM in the National Memorial Park cemetery in Falls Church, with the Reverend Don Carlton officiating.

Hill & Wood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Norman J. McCowin

Funeral services for Deacon Norman James McCowin will be held Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at 1 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Columbia.

Rev. Lloyd Feggans will officiate.

There will be viewing from 12-1 p.m. before service.

Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Emily C. McGee Reid

Emily Caroline McGee Reid (Mrs. Charles Reid), 88, died July 18, 2003 at the Martha Jefferson House in Charlottesville.

Mrs. Reid was born July 2, 1915, in Greenville, South Carolina, to Charles McKay McGee and Emelyn Ponder McGee.

She was graduated summa cum laude in 1936 from Greenville Woman's College (now Furman University), where she was secretary of her senior class, a May Queen attendant during her sophomore and senior years, and a member of Beta Sigma sorority.

She married Charles Gordon McDowell Reid Jr. on September 21, 1944, and lived with him in Seattle where he was serving in the U.S. Navy.

The couple later settled in Charlottesville, where Mr. Reid was a professor of Spanish at the University of Virginia. In 1981, her husband preceded her in death.

Mrs. Reid was a member of the American Society of University Women and the Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville.

In Charlottesville, she attended the First Baptist Church. One of Mrs. Reid's greatest pleasures was gardening.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Evans Reid Gill and son-in-law George Ernest Gill of Morrison, Colorado; two grandsons, Gregory Edward Gill of Charlottesville, VA, and Cameron Wade Gill, of Littleton, CO; a sister, Sara Frances McGee (Mrs. John D.) Spence of Greenville, SC; a brother, Charles McKay McGee Jr. of Clemson, SC; two nephews, the Rev. John D. Spence III of Asheville, NC, and Jackson Parkhurst of Brevard, NC; and two nieces, Eugenia Elizabeth Bibb and Louise Randolph Bibb of Charlottesville, VA.

A graveside service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22 at the University cemetery. Mrs. Reid's nephew, the Rev. John D. Spence III, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1490 Pantops Mountain Place, Suite 200, Charlottesville, VA 22911.

Dudley W. Morris

Dudley Wilson Morris, 69, of Dyke passed away Sunday July 20, 2003 at a Charlottesville Hospital.

He was born Dec. 9, 1933 in Greene County, a son of the late Herman and Clemmie Morris.

He is survived by four grandchildren, Joseph Randolph Morris of Charlottesville, Raven Diane Johnson, Camela Christian, Christian Harlow and Tonya Reana Harlow; two brothers, Nelson J. Morris of Augusta County and Junior Earl Morris of Dyke; three sisters, Christine Seay of Lusby, Md., Gladys Nelson of Vero Beach, Fl. and Patricia Hall of Dyke; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Jones and David.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ryan Funeral Chapel in Quinque, with interment in the Family cemetery. Pastor Wendell Lamb with officiate.

The family will receive friends this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Donald Wells

Donald Wells, 60, of Washington D.C. entered into eternal rest Friday July 18, 2003 at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He was the son of the late Rudolph and Carrie Wells.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving and devoted wife Ophelia Wells. 3 sons; Kevin Wells of Landover, Md., Seneca Wells and Donald Wells both of Washington D.C.; three daughters, Kimberly Kelly of Washington D.C. and two daughters of Baltimore Md.; one brother, Rudolph V. Wells Jr. of Troy, Va.; 2 sisters Mary Jackson and Rosa Lee Wells both of Charlottesville; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; and host of other beloved relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Springfield Baptist Church. Interment icon will follow at the Church cemetery.

Services of comfort are in trusted to the staff of McClenny Funeral Service Inc. R.B and Doris A. McClenny Morticians.

William H. Barber

William H. "Billy" Barber, 71, of Culpeper died Sunday, July 20, 2003 at his residence.

Born June 2, 1932 in Charlottesville he was the son of the late John M. Barber Sr. and the late Sallie Henderson Barber was retired from Carpenter Brothers Auto of Culpeper.

He is survived by one daughter Sally Barber Hawley of Falls Church, Va. and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother John M. "Jack" Barber Jr.

A graveside Funeral Services will be held Tuesday July 22, 2003 at 11 a.m. in the Fairview cemetery in Culpeper conducted by the Rev. Forest Porter. Preddy Funeral Home Orange is in charge of arrangements.

Theodore R. Bland

Chaplain Theodore (Ted) Roosevelt Bland of Kents Store, Va. died July 18, 2003 at his home.

He attended school in Fluvanna County and later served in the United States Air Force.

After retiring from the military, he married Marjorie Ann Price and shared that union for forty years.

He received a Bachelor of Biblical Studies from Carolina University of Theology and worked for the District of Columbia, Department of Human Services as an Alcoholism Counselor until his retirement in 1993 when he relocated to Fluvanna County and began work as a Chaplain for The Good News Jail and Prison Ministry.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie Ann Bland, two brothers Philip and Samuel Bland.

He leaves to cherish his memory his children, C. Denise Bowles (Ricky) and Cordelia and Dwight Bland; 13 grandchildren; three sisters Catherine McCowin, Alease Cousins and Ruth Megginson; four brothers Lynn, James, Presley and Shakespear Bland; four sisters-in-law, Lorraine Farrar, Mattie Price, Dora Price, and Lucy Bland; five brothers-in-law, Allen McCowin, Kenneth Cousins Sr., Leroy Price and Carlton Farrar; two aunts; one uncle, and host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday July 23, 2003 1 p.m. at the Galilee Baptist Church with Rev. Otis Spellman officiating.

Remains will lie in state at the church from 12 noon until time of funeral.
