Fay Satterwhite

Fay Burroughs Gooch Satterwhite, 82, formerly of Henderson, N.C., died Saturday, April 5, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home.

A native of Vance County, N.C., she was the daughter of Terry John and Florence Cooper Clark Gooch, who predeceased her.

She was married to Robert Lee Satterwhite, who predeceased her.

She was retired from Mt. Olive pickle plant in Henderson and later taught crafts in the recreation department at Kittrell Job Corp. from 1984 to January 1992.

She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Satterwhite Saunders of Portsmouth and Linda Satterwhite Proctor of Blairs; one sister, Elizabeth Grace Cutts of Richmond; six grandsons and four great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Monday at Flowers Funeral Home in Henderson.

Allen Clark Lovelace

SOUTH BOSTON - Allen Clark Lovelace, 52, of 11247 River Road, died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at Halifax Regional Hospital.

Born April 2, 1945, in Halifax County, he was the son of John Allen Lovelace, who is predeceased; and Hazel Clark Lovelace, who survives.

He was married to Carole Owen Lovelace, who survives.

He was a member of Dan River Baptist Church and taught in the Halifax County schools for 29 years. At Halifax County High School, he was the English ACE coach.

He received his bachelor's degree from Virginia Tech and his master's degree from Longwood College.

In addition to his mother of Halifax and his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Marcia L. Crowder of Halifax and Sara Catherine Lovelace of the home; one brother, Jerry Lovelace of Halifax; and one granddaughter.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Dr. Dennis Knight. Burial will be in Dan River Baptist Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Powell Funeral Home, South Boston, and other times will be at the residence.

Algie Rigney

MARTINSVILLE - Algie E. Pruitt Rigney, 81, of Blue Ridge Rehabilitation Center, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at the nursing home.

Born Oct. 3, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Sarah Elizabeth Pruitt.

She was a homemaker and a member of County Line Christian Church.

She was married to Lonnie N. Rigney, who is predeceased.

Survivors include two daughters, Lizzie Mae Rigney of Callands and Shelby Murphy of Martinsville; one son, Raleigh V. Rigney of Danville; one brother, Curtis Pruitt of Martinsville; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday at County Line Christian Church by the Rev. Dean Ashby and Charles R. Tomlinson. Burial will be in the Adkins family cemetery, Callands.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at County Line Christian Church.

Tomlinson Funeral Home, Ridgeway, is in charge of arrangements.

Lucy Bet Sizemore

Miss Lucy Bet Sizemore, formerly of 161 Marshall Terrace, died Sunday afternoon, April 6, 1997, in Roman Eagle Memorial Home, where she had been a resident for the past year.

She was born in Buffalo Springs, on March 9, 1915, a daughter of Ledford Sizemore and Nannie S. Sizemore.

Miss Sizemore came to Danville in 1935 to pursue a career in nursing. She was a graduate of the Danville Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a private duty nurse and was employed at the Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1979.

Miss Sizemore was a member of First Baptist Church, the Triple L Club, the Memorial Hospital/Danville Regional Medical Center Alumni Association, and the Memorial Hospital/Danville Regional Medical Center Retirees Club.

Miss Sizemore was predeceased by two sisters, Eva Garrett and Katie Gordan.

She is survived by three sisters, Winnie Wiles of Danville; Naomi Humphries of Clarksville, and Myrtle Bruce Jennings of Fairfax; a brother, LeRoy Sizemore of Clarksville; three nephews, three nieces, seven great-nephews and five great-nieces.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday from Townes Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Fred Cox. Graveside services will be held at Oakhurst cemetery in Clarksville at 4:30 p.m.

The family will receive friends at Townes Funeral Home Monday night from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and at other times will be at the residence of her sister, Winnie Wiles, 472 Northmont Blvd.

Cordie White

Cordie Byrd White, 83, of 1478 Claiborne St., died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at Hospice Center in Arlington.

Born May 17, 1913, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of John Robert Byrd and Jeanette Rigney Byrd.

She spent her entire life in Danville and was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.

She was married to Arthur Haywood White, who died May 1, 1969.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

The graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday by the Rev. Lee Ellison in Mountain View cemetery.

Barker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rada Eanes

Rada Hensley Eanes, 83, 7618 South Boston Highway, Sutherlin, and formerly of Ferry Road, Danville, died Monday, April 7, 1997, at the Danville Regional Medical Center. She had been in declining health for a number of years.

Born Oct. 15, 1913, in the Meadows of Dan, she was a daughter of Jasper Hensley and Priscilla Yeatts Hensley.

She was married to John Walter Eanes, who died May 15, 1979.

She spent most of her life in the Danville area, where she was employed for Dan River Inc. as a spinner before retiring. She was a member of Ferry Road Friends Church.

Survivors include six sons, John Wayne Eanes and Freddie Warren Eanes, both of Danville, Glenn Elwood Eanes and Jimmie Davis Eanes, both of Greensboro, N.C., Robert Lee Eanes of Blanche, N.C., and Ernest William Eanes of Sutherlin; one brother, Garner Wayne Hensley of Meadows of Dan; four sisters, Avis Dalton and Clarice Austin, both of Meadows of Dan, Alma Burgin of Belton, S.C., and Mozelle Baggwell of Greenville, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday from the Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Jimmy Burks. Interment icon will be at Schoolfield cemetery.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and at other times at the residence of her son, John Wayne Eanes, at 1554 Old Hunting Trail.

Jimmy Kelly Jr.

M.J. "Jimmy" Kelly Jr., 67, 5699 Walter's Mill Road, Providence, N.C., died Monday, April 7, 1997, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 4, 1929, in Pine Bluff, Ark., he was the son of Monroe James Kelly and Ava Herring Kelly.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Hamlett Kelly, and later married Louise Hooks Kelly, who survives.

He retired from Miller Brewing Co. and was a farmer. He was a 32nd-degree Mason with the Caswell Lodge #11 and a member of Providence Baptist Church. He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Donna K. Johnson of Danville; two stepsons, Eric Hooks and James Hooks, both of Milton, N.C.; a sister, Edna K. Thrift of Lanham, Md.; a granddaughter, Angie Johnson of Roxboro, N.C.; and two step grandchildren.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Providence Baptist Church by the Rev. Bruce Morgan and the Rev. R.G. Williams. Burial will be the church cemetery with graveside Masonic rites.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Marley Funeral Home, Yanceyville, N.C., and other times will be at the residence.

Pandora Logan

Pandora Luck Logan, 87, 2892 Irish Road, Chatham, died Saturday, April 5, 1997, at the Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born Sept. 25, 1910, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Cabel Robertson and Lena Luck Robertson.

She was married to Albert Logan, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church in Java.

Survivors include three daughters, Juanita Stone of Richmond, and Louise Scates and Marie Newby, both of Chatham; two sons, Clifton Logan of Silver Springs, Md., and Jessie Logan of Chatham; 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shockoe Baptist Church by the Rev. George H. Pass. Interment icon will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Ned Pruitt

Ned Carter Pruitt, 63, of Williamsburg, died Sunday, April 6, 1997, at a Virginia Beach hospital.

He was born in Danville.

He was married to Verna Butler Pruitt, who survives.

Before retiring in April 1996, he was manager of the piping and valve department of American Electric Power Service Corp. in Columbus, Ohio, for 37 years.

He graduated from Virginia Tech in 1960 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was a past member of Heritage Country Club in Columbus and Ford's Colony Country Club in Williamsburg. He resided in Worthington, Ohio, from 1980-1997, before moving to Williamsburg.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Susan Pruitt Reeder of Dayton, Ohio; two sons, Ned Carter Pruitt Jr. of Richmond and Christopher Edward Pruitt of Sinking Springs, Pa; a sister, Cora Lee Bray of Danville; three brothers, Dan Pruitt of Pascaguola, Miss., Harry Pruitt of Penhook and Garland Pruitt of Richmond; and one grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted noon Wednesday at Holloman-Brown Funeral Home Great Neck Chapel by the Rev. Georgianna Brabban Johnson. Burial will be in the Princess Anne Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.
