Lucille Kelly

CHATHAM - Lucille Kelly, 76, 212 Friendship Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, in Danville.

Born June 21, 1920, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Henry and Rosa Lee Hodnett Womack.

She was married to Johnnie Pearl Kelly, who predeceased her.

She was a homemaker and a member of First United Holiness Church in Chatham.

Survivors include five sisters, Carolyn Dodson, Lucille Kelly, Mary Barksdale and Lois Petty, all of Chatham, and Anna Coleman of Baltimore; and two brothers, Masture J. Womack of Chatham and Joseph Womack of Washington D.C.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by three brothers, John I. Womack, Willie Clay Womack, and Hugh Dillard Womack.

A graveside service will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday in Mt. Airy Baptist Church cemetery by the Rev. William Tarpley.

Miller Funeral Home of Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

Peter Marable

SOUTH BOSTON - Peter James Marable, 70, 1123 River Road, died Sunday, Jan. 5, 1997, in his residence.

Born July 9, 1926, he was a son of Rosa Lee and William Marable.

He was a member of New Arbor Baptist Church and of the Masons. He also served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by 11 children.

The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday from New Arbor Church in South Boston by the Rev. Preston Medley. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Norris Mayhew

PITTSVILLE - Norris Graham Mayhew, 81, 1161 Darby Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, in his residence.

Born Nov. 25, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Leonard Charlie Mayhew and Bitha Bennett Mayhew.

He was married to Ruth Barbour Mayhew, who predeceased him.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a sawyer.

He is survived by one son, Norris Roy Mayhew of Pittsville; three daughters, Geneva Goad and Gail Thompson, both of Gretna, and Brenda Robertson of Pittsville; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday from Colbert-Moran Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Woodrow Tuck. Interment icon will be in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at the funeral home, and other times at the residence of a daughter, Brenda Robertson, 1049 Darby Road, Pittsville.

Lucile Norman

A graveside service for Lucile Easley Norman, 99, 2526 North Main St., will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday in Chatham Burial Park by the Rev. Walker Pettyjohn and the Rev. Dan Norman.

She died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997.

Born June 5, 1897, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Oscar Easley and Molly Bascan Easley.

She was married to George Halcott Norman, who predeceased her.

She was a member of Chatham Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Concord School. She later attended Chatham Episcopal Institute (now known as Chatham Hall) and Stratford Finishing School.

She is survived by a daughter, Swanson N. Hill of Chatham; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one step-great-great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, in Chatham.

Scott Funeral Home of Chatham is in charge of arrangements.

Coleman Osborne

MARTINSVILLE - Coleman Roscoe Osborne, 74, 85 Ridgedale Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, in Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County.

Born Dec. 22, 1922, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Roy Coleman Osborne and Anna Tosh Osborne.

He was married to Bertha Osborne Osborne, who survives.

He was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to his wife of Martinsville, survivors include a son, Glenn Osborne of Martinsville; a daughter, Helen O. Lovins of Martinsville; five sisters, Irene Falls of Gretna, Edda Adkins and Annabelle Barbour, both of Chatham, Nancy Haskins of Callands and Margaret Spangler of Bassett; four brothers, Arthur Osborne of Martinsville, Garnett Osborne of Rocky Mount, Junior Osborne of Gretna and Wayne Osborne of Callands; and two grandchildren.

A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in the Osborne Family cemetery by Mr. Jimmy Cannady.

The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Scott Funeral Home in Chatham, and other times at the residence of a sister, Edda Adkins, 1489 Cooksbur Road, Climax.

Edwin Bealer

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. - Edwin Alexander Bealer, 81, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at his residence.

Born in Washington, D.C., he was a son of Pierre M. Bealer and Ernestine Brumley Bealer.

A former Danville resident, he served in the U.S. Army in World War II and received the Purple Heart for injuries he received in the Battle of the Bulge.

He is the retired president of the former Bealer & Son Inc. Wholesale Beer Distributors of Danville, Va.

He was a former member of the board of directors for the Virginia Beer Wholesalers Association, The Rotary Club, the VFW, Sertoma Club, Danville Golf Club, and First Presbyterian Church, all in Danville.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Updike Bealer of Mount Pleasant; one son, Barry Bealer of Mount Pleasant; one brother, Hartford E. Bealer of Chevy Chase, Md., and two grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel. Interment icon will be in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.

Robert 'Bob' Coleman Jr.

The funeral for Robert Bernard "Bob" Coleman Jr., 239 Oak Creek Drive, will be conducted 3 p.m. today from Mount Vernon United Methodist Church by the Rev. John LeGault Jr. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.

He died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997, in the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond.

Born Feb. 22, 1945, in Danville, he was a son of Robert Bernard Coleman and Jane Adkins Coleman.

On Dec. 24, 1964, he was married to Fran Elliott.

He was educated in Danville public schools.

For 32 years, he was associated with Belk-Leggett. At the time of his death, he was employed as division manager of sales promotions for all Leggett stores.

He was a member of Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, where he served on the church board.

He was also a member of the board of directors at the Danville Golf Club. He was past board member of the Danville Chamber of Commerce and the Retail Merchants Association. He was also a member of the Rotary Club and German Club.

In addition to his wife of the residence, he is survived by two sons, Robert B. Coleman III of High Point, N.C., and Stuart Elliott Coleman of Danville; and one brother, L. Michael Coleman of Danville.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Anne Deyton

The funeral for Anne Cobb Deyton, 64, 411 Whittington Drive, will be conducted 2:30 p.m. today from First Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Jack Heinsohn. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

She died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, at her residence, following a lengthy illness.

Born in Greensboro, N.C., she was a daughter of Harry Cobb and Hilda Cates Cobb.

She was married to Dr. Walter E. Deyton for 43 years.

She grew up in Burlington, N.C., but spent most of her adult life in Danville. She was a member of the Wednesday Club, the Windsor Heights and Grove Park garden clubs and the Danville Medical Wives Association. She was also a member of First Presbyterian Church and First Presbyterian Women.

In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Teresa Deyton of Manhattan, Mont., and Cheryl Deyton of Asheville, N.C.; one son, Tom Deyton of Indian Hills, Colo.; and one sister, Helen Cobb Knowles of Danville.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Elizabeth Gough

Elizabeth S. Gough, 86, of the Riverside Health Care Center, formerly of 511 Bermuda Road, died on Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, following several years of declining health.

Born June 12, 1910, in Wilkes County, N.C., she was a daughter of William Gideon Smoot and Carrie Gentry Smoot.

She resided most of her life in Danville where she retired from Dan River Mills after 25 years.

She was a member of Stokesland Baptist Church.

She was married to Thomas H. Gough.

Survivors include one son, Fred Davis of Danville; four sisters, Amanda Mobley, Ruth Swain, and Louise Fitts, all of Danville, and Blanche Rankin of Millsboro, Del.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at Barker Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Donald Franks. Burial will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will be at the residence of a grandson, Fred E. Davis Jr., 507 Bermuda Road.
