Elizabeth Price

The funeral for Elizabeth Marshall Price, 84, formerly of Danville, will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Ronald W. Mateer. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.

She died Friday morning, April 3, 1998, at the residence of her son, 1305 Westridge Road, Richmond.

Born July 17, 1913, in Eden, N.C., she was a daughter of Robert Lee Marshall and Alice Gray Marshall.

She was first married to George W. Carter, who died Dec. 2, 1944. She was later married to James Price, who died Dec. 3, 1983.

For most of her life, she had been a resident of Danville; she had lived with her son in Richmond since 1983.

She had worked for Dan River, Inc., as a cloth room inspector before retiring.

Price was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a son, D.G. Carter of Richmond; a brother, W.R. Marshall of Hillsville; a sister, Mallie Bet McGee of Charlotte, N.C.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Nellie Pritchett

The funeral for Nellie Mae Pritchett, 76, 1320 Medical Center Road, will be conducted 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel by the Rev. Jeffery Cannon and the Rev. Kenneth McFarling. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

She died Friday, April 3, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center after a year of declining health and a week in the hospital.

Born May 3, 1921, in Pelham, N.C., she was a daughter of Aubrey Durham and Florentina Rook Durham.

On Oct. 15, 1938, she was married to William N. Pritchett Sr., who survives.

A resident of Pittsylvania County and the surrounding areas for most of her life, she worked as a tobacco clerk for Holland's warehouse in Danville and New Farmers warehouse in Martinsville prior to her retirement.

She was a member of Stokesland Baptist Church and a past member of Vann High Ladies Club.

In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Linda P. White of Sutherlin and Patricia P. Cooper of Chatham; three sons, Aubrey R. Pritchett and William "Nat" Pritchett Jr., both of Danville, and Tyrone Hassell Pritchett of Perris, Calif.; two brothers, Kenneth Lee Durham and Melvin Q. Durham, both of Danville; a sister, Marie Durham Fitzgerald of Danville; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Jerry Franklin Durham and Raymond Durham.

Omie Thomas

Omie Horner Thomas, 78, of 300 Meadowland Drive, Hillsborough, N.C., formerly of South Boston, died April 4, 1998, at Brookshire Nursing Center in Hillsborough, N.C.

Born Aug. 22, 1919, in Orange County, N.C., she was a daughter of Doak D. Horner and Bessie Riley Horner.

She was a member of McCanless Memorial United Methodist Church.

Survivors include a stepson, Stover B. Thomas of Richardson, Texas; two sisters, Rachel H. Perry and Margaret H. Terrell of Hillsbourgh.

She was preceeded in death by her first husband, Clarence D. Reaves and her second husband, Stover B. Thomas.

A graveside funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Della Earnhardt. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge cemetery in South Boston.

The family will receive friends 7-8 tonight at Brooks Funeral Home in South Boston.

Bertha Creasy Willis

GRETNA - Roberta "Bertha" Creasy Willis, 90, died Thursday, April 2, 1998, at Gretna Health Care Center.

Born June 10, 1907, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of the late Lindsey Walter Creasy and Anna Dove Creasy.

She was married to the late Charles Tillman Willis.

She was predeceased by five brothers and a sister, Charlie Creasy, Daniel Creasy, George Creasy, Raleigh Creasy, Robert Creasy and Annie C. Martin.

She was a member of Gretna Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Edna W. Love and Violet W. Tuck, both of Gretna; a half sister, Nellie Adams of Gretna; six grandsons, Alfred Yeatts of Bedford, Pete Yeatts and his wife, Katie, and Aubrey Yeatts and his wife, Joan, and Garnett Yeatts Sr. and his wife, Judy, and Darrell Yeatts and his wife, Marcia, and Terry Tuck and his wife, Verna, all of Gretna; two granddaughters, Jeanette Blair and Elaine McDaniel, both of Gretna; 17 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Gretna Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Jerry Blevins and the Rev. Greg Kraus. Interment icon will be in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence of her daughter, Edna Love, 508 Leftwich St., Gretna.

Mary Wright

Mary Frances Conner-Atkins Wright, 68, of 613 Meadowview Drive, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

She died unexpectedly and was in the hospital for one day.

Born June 17, 1930, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of Roy Conner and Della Mae Manuel Conner Atkins.

She had lived most of her life in Danville and was of the Baptist faith.

She was married to Lester Mitchell Wright, who died Sept. 5, 1997.

Survivors include two daughters, Donna Gayle Wright Mayhew of the residence, and Brenda Carol Wright of Norfolk; a sister, Patricia Forbes of Madison, N.C.; three step-sisters, Hazel Reed, Venia Hansen and Trene Brunson, all of California; and three grandchildren, Lesley Michelle Mayhew, Ian Alexander Mayhew and Paige Nicole Mayhew, all of the home.

She was predeceased by a sister, Hallie Eastwood.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover chapel by the Rev. Daryl S. Joyce. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover chapel and other times at the residence, 613 Meadowview Drive.

Harvey Grasty Sr.

Harvey Grasty Sr., 93, 600 Fairhaven Circle, died Friday, April 3, 1998, in Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 6, 1905, in Pittsylvania County, he was a son of Luther Grasty and Bessie Jones Grasty.

He was a retired, self-employed farmer.

He was married to Summer Grasty, who predeceased him.

He was a member of Shockoe Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas Grasty, Harper Grasty, Luther Grasty and John Grasty Sr., all of Willow Grove, Pa.; six daughters, Earlie Woodford of Willow Grove., Mildred Stephens of Newport News, Dorothy Davis and Carolyn Minor, both of Danville, Dale Watkins and Cecile Grasty, both of Elmsford, N.Y.; two brothers, Hermon Grasty of Willow Grove, and Linwood Grasty of Chester, Pa.; 49 grandchildren; 71 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Shockoe Baptist Church by the Rev. G.W. Pass. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The body may be viewed 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Cunningham & Hughes Funeral Home.

The family will be at the residence.

Millie Henderson

Millie Garland Henderson, 84, of Alton, died Friday, April 3, 1998, in the Berry Hill Nursing Home in South Boston.

A native of Caswell County, she was the daughter of Alex Garland and Lucinda Hazel Garland Stewart.

She was a member of St. Mark Baptist Church in Alton.

She was educated in the Caswell County public schools.

She was married to John Henry Henderson, who survives.

In addition to her husband, survivors include one daughter, Michelle McRae of Richmond; three sons, George Featherson and Henry Featherson and Charlie Smith, all of Alton; two stepsisters, Millie Womack of Leasburg, N.C., and Carrie Robinson of Baltimore.

The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mark Baptist Church by the Rev. H.M. Pettiford. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Viewing of the body will be offered noon-8 p.m. tonight in Plenty Funeral Home in Semora, N.C.

The family will be at the residence of Pansy Stewart, 14066 U.S. 119-N, Semora, N.C.

Nancy Hyler

A memorial service for Nancy McCroskey Hyler, 59, of 9848 Martinsville Hwy., will be conducted 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest Baptist Church by the Rev. Ross Range Sr., Rev. Fletcher Hardy, Rev. Rodney Beals and Rev. Fred Clifton.

She died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at her residence. She had been in declining health for six months.

Born Dec. 24, 1938, in Danville, she was a daughter of Frank McCroskey and Bertha McGuire McCroskey.

She had lived most of her life in Danville and Pittsylvania County and worked as a secretary at Averett College. She was formerly employed by the former First Virginia Bank South.

Mrs. Hyler was a member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church and the Agape Sunday School Class. She was also a member of the Women's Investment Network.

On Nov. 15, 1958, she was married to James B. Hyler, who survives.

In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include a daughter, Angela H. Wolf and her husband, Michael D. Wolf of Danville; a grandson, Cole Henderson Hyler Wolf of Danville; two sisters, Charmie Lorine Stallings of Baltimore, Md., and Patsy J. Cote of Danville; and one grandchild.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Cranston E. McCroskey and Richard L. McCroskey; and three sisters, Alease McCroskey, Inez McCormick and Estelle Pulliam.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover chapel.

The family of Nancy M. Hyler suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hillcrest Baptist Church Building Fund.

Gayle Atkins

Gayle Morris Atkins, 51, 698 Indian Valley Road, died Monday afternoon, April 6, 1998, at her residence after several years of declining health.

Born Jan. 27, 1947, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Issac Wade Morris and Goldie Shorter Morris, who survives.

On June 6, 1963, she was married to Ray W. Atkins, who survives.

She had spent all her life in the Danville area, where she was a homemaker and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

In addition to her mother of Blanche, N.C., and her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Ray W. Atkins Jr. of Danville and Randy W. Atkins of Blairs; a brother, Alton G. Morris of Danville; a sister, Marjorie Brooks of Blanche; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. J. Richard Markham. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, and other times at the residence.

Peggy Hamilton

Lee "Peggy" Cundiff Hamilton, 83, 232 Arnett Blvd., died Monday, April 6, 1998, at Riverside Health Care Center after several years of declining health and three weeks at center.

Born Feb. 16, 1915, in Rockingham County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Ellis Lee Cundiff and the late Dora Edna Odell Cundiff Taylor.

In 1940, she was married to Hubert Allen Hamilton, who died on Jan. 13, 1989.

She had lived most of her life in Danville, where she and her late husband, Hubert A. Hamilton, had owned and operated the Heart Line Restaurant for 35 years prior to her retirement.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include a daughter, Gladys Hamilton Moschler of Danville; a son-in-law, Junior Moschler of Danville; a sister, Sarah C. Murphy of Danville; a granddaughter, Vickie C. Scism of Danville; a grandson, Joseph D. Coleman of Charlotte, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Mandy Jo Coleman of Danville; and a great-grandson, Jeremy D. Coleman of Danville.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Burial Park by the Rev. Ron Mateer.

The family will receive friends 7-8:30 tonight at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel, and other times at the residence, 232 Arnett Blvd.

Gladys Watkins

AXTON - Gladys Mae Price Watkins, 48, 2773 Sandy River Road, died Saturday, April 4, 1998, at her residence.

Born July 9, 1948, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Sam Price and Mary Sue Harris Price.

She was married to Melvin Watkins Sr., who survives.

She attended school in Pittsylvania County and retired from Brown Products in 1991.

She was a former member of Union Hall Baptist Church. On Dec. 26, 1970, she was united with Mt. Sinai Holiness Church.

In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two daughters, Karen L. Carter of Cascade and Antoinett Hairston of Williamsburg; two sons, Melvin Watkins Jr. of Monesson, Pa., and Derrill Watkins of Winstom-Salem, N.C.; a brother, John A. Price of Mt. Vernon, N.J.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. today at Mt. Sinai Holiness Church in Axton by Elder Bruce Simmons. Burial will be in the Watkins Family cemetery in Axton.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Fisher & Watkins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
