Virginia, U.S., Marriage Records, 1936-2014

Ruth Reynolds Aron

Ruth Reynolds Aron, 83, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998 at Riverside Health Care Center.

Born Oct. 5, 1915, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Henry Lee Reynolds and Elizabeth Yeatts Reynolds.

She was married to Russell W. Aron, who predeceased her Sept. 6, 1975.

She lived her entire life in Danville and Pittsylvania County, and was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter Patricia Aron of Boston, Mass.; two brothers Roger Reynolds and Kenneth Reynolds, both of Chatham; and one sister Lucille Harrison of Durham, N.C.

She was predeceased by two brothers, Morris Reynolds and Wilbur Reynolds.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts Westover Chapel with the Rev. Lee Ellison officiating. Burial will be in Liberty Baptist Church cemetery, Callands.

Herman Black

CHATHAM - Herman Leo Black, 89, of 98 Fourth St., died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in Danville Regional Medical Center in Chatham.

Born Nov. 12, 1909, in Saluda, S.C., he was the son of Jacob Haskell and Nina B. Black.

He was married to Mary Alice Gillian Black, who predeceased him.

He was a member of Panola United Methodist Church where he was former Sunday school superintendent and teacher, administrative board member, member of the United Methodist Men and upon retirement from Panola Mill, also served as custodian.

Survivors include two sons, William "Bill" Ray Black Sr., of Woodruff and Bobby Haskell Black of Chatham; one daughter Deloris B. Minnick of Ninety Six; 11 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren and six-great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Harley Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Candice Sloan, the Rev. Robert G. Strother and the Rev. Marty J. Brown officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Tiny Bray

VIRGILINA - Tiny Bray, 83, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at Twin Oaks Convalescent Home.

Born April 14, 1915, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Henry Clayborne Bray and Ellen Elliott Bray.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. today at North Fork Baptist Church cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Whitfield officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence of the Rev. George Compton, 329 Chalmers St., South Boston.

Brooks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Chamberlain

Jessie Williams Chamberlain, 82, of 219 Green Acre Drive, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, at her residence after two years of declining health.

Born Dec. 30, 1915, she was the daughter of James Boisseau and Lillie Poindexter Williams.

She was married April 8, 1933, to Herman Edwin Chamberlain, who predeceased her Jan. 26, 1996.

She had lived all of her life in Pittsylvania County and Danville. She retired from Thalhimers Dept. Store, head of the Children's Department in 1983, after 25 years of service. She was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where she was member, and the first president of Wesley Chapel's Friends and Neighbors Club. She was the last surviving charter member of the Airport Sunshine Club, where she held many offices and served as president for several years. She was also a member and past president of Alpha Club (Thalhimer's retirees), a member and past president of Keen Street Baptist Church Young at Heart Club and a former member of the American Women's Business Association.

Survivors include one daughter Glenda C. Boswell of Danville; one son Larry Herman Chamberlain of Mechanicsville; four sisters, Darna W. Wiles, Empress W. Wade, Frances W. Dalton and Eunice W. Robertson, all of Ringgold; and one brother, Frank Benton Williams of Ringgold; and one grandchild.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by one daughter Joan Carolyn Chamberlain; one sister Willie W. Royster; and two brothers Hunter Williams and Nelson Williams.

A funeral will be held Wednsday at 2 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel by the Rev. Howard Green. Internement will be at Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at other times at the residence.

Helen Daniel

Helen Snead Daniel, 74, of 236 Haymore St., died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after a decline in health for the past 15 years.

Born Jan. 26, 1924, in Lincolnton, N.C., she was the daughter of Avery Tallent and Elizabeth Spiegel Tallent.

She lived her entire life in the Glenwood community and was retired from Dan River Inc. after 40 years of service. She was a member of St. Mark Pentecostal Holiness Church.She was married to James L. Snead, who predeceased her in 1967. She was later married to William Everett Daniel Sr., who survives. She was the last survivor of her generation.

In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include two sons, Raymond Snead of Danville and Earnest James Snead of Clarksville, Tenn; one daughter, Dolly Case Beamon of High Point, N.C.; three stepsons, William Everett Daniel Jr. of Danville, Michael Lewis Daniel of Broadnax and Nathaniel Keith Daniel of Wilmington, N.C.; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her first husband, she was predeceased by two grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel with the Rev. Henry W. Taylor and the Rev. Eller Ratliff officiaitng. Burial will be in Floral Hills Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Raymond Snead, 323 Plum St.

Alma Fackler

Alma Miller Fackler, 84, of Roman Eagle Memorial Home, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, after three years of declining health.

Born May 15, 1916, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of June F. Miller and Nila Puryear Miller. She was married to Robert Lee "Red" Fackler who predeceased her.

She lived most of her life in Danville where she worked at Dan River Inc. as a winder and tender and was a homemaker.

Survivors include one grandchild. She was predeceased by one daughter Avis Thurman Bishop; and one brother Mack A. Miller.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Highland Burial Park with the Rev. A. Kyle Flora officiating.

The family will receive friends at the residence of the granddaughter Kelly Parrott, 315 Swain Drive. Wrenn Yeatts North Main Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Patsy Futch

Patsy Jean Futch, 44 of 130 Berman Drive, died Sat. Dec. 19, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center.

Born Aug. 21, 1954, at Lawrence, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Ivory Wedman and Florence Whitmore, who survives.

She was married to the Rev. Willie D. Futch, who survives.

She was a homemaker and was a member of New Life Christian Center.

In addition to her mother of Lawrence, S.C., and her husband of the residence, survivors include three sons, Daryl Donald and Timothy Donald, both of Danville and David Futch of the residence.

A funeral will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday at New Hope Apostolic Church with the Rev. James Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Danville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends 7-8 p.m. today at Cunningham and Hughes Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.

Corine Glass

Corine Waller Glass, 63, of 105 Beaver Mill Road, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, at her residence.

Born July 28, 1935, in Pittsylvania County, she was the daughter of Irvin Myers and Josephine Waller.

She was married to Norman Glass, Sr., who predeceased her.

She retired as cook at Woodbury School.

Survivors include one daughter Margaret Robertson; two sons Norman Glass Jr., and Brian Glass; one sister Annie Fitzgerald; one brother George Waller, all of Danville; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family will recieve friends at 137 Beavers Mill Road.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Fisher and Watkins Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Andrew White officiating. Interment icon will be in Highland Burial Park.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Edward Lewis Sr.

Edward F. Lewis Sr., 88, formerly of 255 Howeland Circle, and recently of 1951 Lake Daisy Road, Winter Haven, Fla., died Saturday night at the residence of his daughter, Beverly L. Stroud, 3332 Overhill Trail, Roanoke.

Born May 1, 1910, in Nash County, N.C., he was the son of James Addison Lewis and Ina Fulghium Lewis.

He was married to Jessie Harrell Lewis, who predeceased him Nov. 24, 1993. He was veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He moved to Danville in 1955 and traveled for Goodrich Tire Company as territory salesman for 35 years, and later became manager of the Goodrich store on Riverside Drive until his retirement.

He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Winter Haven, Fla., and a former member of West Main Baptist Church in Danville. He was also a member of the American Legion Memorial Post No. 325, the Loyal Order of the Moose, the Cypress Gardens Camp Ground Social Club, which he served as treasurer, and a former member of Tuscarora Country Club.

He started the walking club at Piedmont Mall. Survivors include two sons, Edward F. Lewis Jr. of Picayune, Miss., and James A. Lewis II of Santa Fe, N.M.; four daughters, Beverly L. Stroud of Roanoke, Sandra L. Barksdale of Danville, Sterlyn L. Ross-Webb of Dry Fork, and Connie L. Adams of Salem; one sister, Inez Small of Raleigh, N.C.; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Swicegood Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home and at other times at the residence of his daughter, Sandra L. Barksdale, 353 Lakeside Drive.

William Peers

William Walker Peers, 91, of 149 Westhampton Ave. died Sunday night, Dec. 20, 1998, at Stratford Health Care Center.

Born Feb. 23, 1907, in Louisa Va., he was the son of George Lynwood Peers and Elsie Collins Peers.

He was married for 44 years to Frances Terry Peers, who predeceased him July 14, 1986.

He was educated in Henrico County public school system. He was employed with Virginia Insurance Inspection and Rating Bureau in Richmond until transferred to Danville Feb. 28, 1933, as a special agent. He was a member of Four Mile Creek Church. He also served four years in the United States Army in World War II. He established and worked at Peers & Wiseman Insurance Company until his retirement. Later he retired to a cattle and horse farm.

Survivors include one sister Waverly P. Crouch of Richmond.

A graveside service will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Highland Burial Park with the Rev. Elbert Williamson officiating.

Townes Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joe Richardson

Joseph Odell Richardson, 50, of 3771 South Boston Road, died suddenly Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at Danville Regional Medical Center, after a three-day stay in the hospital.

Born April 19, 1948, in Danville, he was the son of Norman William Richardson and Nannie Simmons Richardson.

He lived his entire life in Pittsylvania County and worked for Apac of Virginia for a number of years prior to becoming a foreman with Construction Consultants of Burlington, N.C.

He was a member of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 647. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Survivors include one daughter, Leslie Jo Richardson of Danville; one brother, Norman "Bud" Richardson of Ringgold; and one sister, Norma Jean R. Howell of Ringgold.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. Burial will be in Danville Memorial Gardens with military honors by American Legion Post No. 325.

The family will receive friends at the residence.

Anne Solomon

SOUTH BOSTON - Anne Bass Solomon, 83, of 8083 Philpott Road, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998 at Twin Oaks Convalescent Home.

Born Aug 22, 1915, in Halifax County, she was the daughter of Samuel Elam Bass and Sallie Tulloh Bass.

She was married to James Addison Solomon, Sr., who predeceased her.

She was a member of the First Cross Roads Baptist Church and she was a homemaker.

Survivors include one son, James A. Solomon Jr. and one daughter-in-law, Lucy C. Solomon, both of South Boston; one grandson, Charles William Solomon of South Boston; and two great-grandchildren, Addison C. Solomon and Charlotte P. Solomon, both of South Boston.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

A funeral will be held 2 p.m. today at First Cross Roads Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Williams officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home of James Solomon, 8068 Philpott Road, South Bsoton.

The family requests that those wishing to give memorials give to First Cross Roads Baptist Church Building Fund, 12240 Philpott Road, Alton, Va. 24520.
