Grace E. Osterman, 94, passed away on Wed., July 10, 2002 at Orange
Co. Nursing Home.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth O. Button of Culpeper and
Annete O. Ferreby of Far Hills, NJ, 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grand-
children & 1 great-great grandchild.
She was a resident of the Hermitage Retirement Community in Richmond,
VA for 15 years. While there, she was very active in their creative
workshop- sewing, quilting and creating delightful little ceramic
figures & animals for her family.
She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert W. Osterman, a twin
daughter, Dorinda O. Anderson, and a great grandson, Christopher E.
Ferreby.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2002 at the
Mitchell's Presbyterian Church at 11:00am with interment at a later
date in NJ.

Helen Good, age 86, of Culpeper, VA, formerly of Lake of the Woods
(Orange County, VA) and Philadelphia, PA, died Tuesday, September 24,
2002 at Culpeper Health & Rehabilitation Center with her daughter at
her side.
The daughter of Polish immigrants, she was born July 22, 1916, in New
Bedford, MA to the late Joseph and Anna Basiura.
She was a woman of unimaginable strength & character. She is survived
by a loving and devoted daughter & son-in-law; Helena and Dan Burns
of Culpeper, Five Grandchildren; Dan & Cindy Burns, III of
Springfield, VA, Robert Burns of Mechanicsville, VA, Kenneth Burns of
Lignum, VA, Donna & Phil Hodges of Roswell, GA and David Burns of
Washington, DC. She is also survived by Two Great-Granddaughters,
Jacqueline & Danielle Hodges of Roswell, GA.
Additional survivors include Two brothers; Walter Basiura of Jim
Thorpe, PA and Joseph Basiura of Cinnamenson, NJ, numerous nieces &
nephews, and a dear friend, Libby Jenkins of Culpeper,VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Good, two
brothers; Frederick and Thaddeus Basiura and Three sisters; Maria
Halama, Adella Ziga, and Anna Conlan.
There will be a funeral service at 7:00pm on Thursday evening, Sept.
26, at Clore-English Funeral Home, Culpeper, VA with a time of
visitation to follow until 8:30pm. Interment will be in White Chapel
Cemetery; Abington, Pennsylvania.

OCCUPATION: retired founder of County Farm Service, Inc.
INTERESTS: Mr. Bates is a native of Madison County where he attended
the public school system. Following graduation from high school he
operated the home farm for 7 years and then enrolled at Virginia
Polytechnic Institute & SU, where he received a B.S. degree in Animal
Science in 1951. He was then employed by the Virginia Extension
Service. After serving in Wythe and Albermarle Counties, he moved to
Culpeper County in 1952 to assume the position of County Agent. He
joined the Culpeper Farmer’s Co-op in 1957 as Assistant Manager and
in January of 1959 he founded County Farm Service, Incorporated,
where he served as President and General Manager until his
retirement in 1985.
He also served his community in the following areas: Director of the
Culpeper Memorial Hospital, Director of the Culpeper Chamber of
Commerce, President and Director of the Culpeper Retail Merchants
Association, Director of the Culpeper Farm Bureau, President of
Culpeper Host Lions Club, President of Culpeper Agricultural
Enterprises, Inc., manager of Culpeper Farm Show, member of Culpeper
Zoning Board, President of Lignum Ruritan Club, President of Ann
Wingfield P.T.A., President of Advance Culpeper Today Committee,
member of the Board of Culpeper Broadcasting Corp., member of the
Board of Trustees of Virginia Baptist Home and served 2 terms on the
Board of Supervisors representing East Fairfax. He was a member of
the Culpeper Baptist Church having served on as a deacon and member
of the Finance Committee.
