Thomas H. Buchanan of 107 Sunnybrook Drive, passed away Nov. 5, 1998. He was the husband of Gladys Wilson Buchanan. Born in Halifax County, he was the son of Robert Howard and Effie Snead Buchanan. He was a member and past deacon of Beulah Baptist Church. He retired from Burlington Industries and was self-employed as a furniture upholsterer. In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Ron Buchanan and his wife, Donna of Richmond, Don Buchanan and his wife, Mary Beth of Lynchburg, Glenn Buchanan of Lynchburg and his fiancee, Gail Lee of Raleigh, N.C., Teresa Faulconer and her husband, Len of Cary, N.C. and a special daughter, Cheryl Ann Buchanan of the residence; one brother, Charles Buchanan and his wife, Ann of Forest; one sister, Evelyn Martin of Clover; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one grandson. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 at Beulah Baptist Church. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Halifax Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Woodall-Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg and other times at the residence. Kennard Neal Gwin
Kennard Neal Gwin passed away Friday, Nov. 6, 1998 in the loving arms of his wife, Marshall Ann Price Gwin at their home, 2900 Trents Ferry Road after a valiant fight against cancer. Born Nov. 7, 1937 in Lancaster, Ohio, he was the son of Roxic Henson Gwin and the late Dallas Gwin. He was a 1959 Ohio University alumnus, where he received a BSEE degree in electrical engineering. He was a retired Project Manager and Senior Systems Engineer for General Electric and also a retired Senior Staff Engineer for Ericsson Inc. Neal was an avid British car enthusiasts and well known authority on the history and construction of Triumph Sports cars. He also collected and owned several vintage automobiles during his life. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a brother, James E. Gwin and his wife, JA of Bowie, Md.; a sister, Nancy LeMaster and her husband, Bob of Lancaster, Ohio and his extended family and cherished neighbors, R. Ashby and Barbara Templeton. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 9, 1998 in Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. William Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 1998 at the funeral home. Kendon Lawrence Foster
Kendon Lawrence Foster, also known to family and friends as “Ken and Butch” the son of the late Leslie and Mattie McPhail, born April 4, 1944, departed this life and entered into eternal rest on Nov. 4, 1998 after a brief illness. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Wilbert McPhail and a sister, Rudell Harrison. He accepted Jesus Christ as his savior on Nov. 1, 1998. He attended schools in White Plains, N.Y. where he was born. He worked and trained other to become a truck driver until he moved to Lynchburg. After he planned to stay in Lynchburg he drove and became owner of Allied Cab #9. He is survived by his former wife, Annie Foster Verser; six children, Ronald Foster of Hawaii, Sonya Foster and Debra Demyers both of Lansing, Mich., Miguel Cochran, Lashawn Foster both of Bridgeport, Conn., Stacey Sawyer of Norwalk, Conn.; a special adopted son, Desmond Mack of Lynchburg, 11 grandchildren, five sisters, Shelia Brabham, Darlene Jones, Reenie Williams and Antania Poole all of Bridgeport, Conn. and Viola Creek of Washington, D.C.; one aunt, Lauren Harding of Bridgeport, Conn.; one sister-in-law, Sharlene McPhail of Bridgeport, Conn.; one daughter-in-law, Patricia; three brothers-in-law, Elix, James and Harold; two sons-in-law, Jimmy and Wayne; he also leaves to mourn his passing a special devoted friend, Dee Dee Mack of Lynchburg. George Wendell Fulks
George Wendell Fulks, 89, of Lynchburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998. He was the husband of the late Mary Tucker “Susie” Fulks. Born in Lynchburg, July 21, 1909, he was a son of the late William Cutler Fulks and Myrtis Carter Fulks. Mr. Fulks was an Army veteran of W.W. II, a member of Sandusky Baptist Church and retired from Pennzoil Oil Company. He is survived by a brother, Claude T. Fulks; sister-in-law, Thelma Fulks and eight nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Presbyterian Cemetery by the Rev. Cecil Hedgepeth. Whitten Park Avenue Chapel is serving Mr. Fulks family.

Deacon Bennie L. Mays of 2971 Galts Mill Road, Madison Heights, departed this life Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998 at his residence. He was the son of the late Charlie and Lizzie Stratton Mays. He is survived by his wife, Mildred Wood Mays of the residence; sons, Henry C. Harris, Bennie S., Wesley K. Mays all of Madison Heights and Donald L. Mays of Lynchburg; daughters, Judy H. John Robert McCormick
John Robert McCormick, Lt. Col. U.S. Army, retired, 77, of Bedford, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 1998 at his residence. He was the widower of Emily Webber McCormick. He was a teacher at Staunton River High School and was a member of the Virginia Mental Health Council. He is survived by his son, Troy R. McCormick and his wife, Denise, Bedford; two nieces, Casey McCormick, Pa. and Kelly McCormick, Fla.; devoted friends, Elton and Ann Waldron, Bedford. Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 1998 at Arlington National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at their residence. Chester David Medley, 81, of 3236 Rodgers Chapel Road, Clover, died Nov. 5, 1998 at Berry Hill Nursing Home. He was born in Halifax County, Oct. 14, 1917, the son of Mr. James Edward Medley and Mrs. Morlee Chandler Medley. He was the husband of Helen Roller Medley. He was a member of the Rodgers Chapel Baptist Church, the American Legion Post in Clover, life member of DAV (Disabled American Veterans), a member of the Mount Laurel Ruritan Club, a former member of the Halifax Sportsman’s Club and an Army veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife, Mr. Medley is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Edwin Lee and Rae Hudson Medley of Lynchburg, David Roller and Ruth Fisher Medley of Richmond; two half brothers and wives, James and Gayle Conner Medley of Clover, Muriel and Evelyn Medley of Clover; one granddaughter, Michelle Leigh Medley of Richmond; two step grandsons, Carl Hudson and wife, Karen of Amherst and Chuck Hudson of Lynchburg and one step great-grandchild, Kenneth Mason Hudson of Amherst. Cleo Roberts Sowell, 92, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Terrell Sowell. Mrs. Sowell was born Jan. 25, 1906 in Iaeger, W.Va. to the late Lewis and Clara Payne Roberts. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and retired from Sowell Sales Company. She is survived by her two sons, John D. Taylor Jr. of Lynchburg, Cecil Robert Taylor and his wife, Dorothy of Charlotte Court House; two half brothers, Vernon C. Payne of Alexandria, James “Buster” Payne of S.C.; a half sister, Mabel Stanley of Iaeger, W.Va.; four grandchildren, Robert H. Taylor of Ky., Thomas F. Taylor of Md., John D. Taylor III of Staunton, Linda Louis Beauchamp of Staunton, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Clarkson Meredith Averett Walker
Clarkson Meredith Averett Walker of Charlottesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998 at the University of Virginia Hospital. Born March 28, 1955 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Willie Wise Averett III and Meredith Taylor Averett. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mary Washington College. She earned her Master in Business Administration from the University of Virginia Darden Graduate School of Business. For many years she worked in the University of Virginia Division of Human Resources and for the past five years served as Research Administrator in the Department of Pharmacology in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia. Clarkson is survived by her daughter, Carter Page Walker; two brothers, William Wise Averett of Annapolis, Md. and Henry Taylor Averett of Lynchburg; two sisters, Susannah Averett Dryman of Atlanta, Ga. and Martha Averett Clark of Lynchburg and eight nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 1998 at Saint Johns Episcopal Church. Helen B. Camm of 1560 Second Street, departed this life Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998 at Virginia Baptist Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of the late Leslie E. Camm. Mrs. Helen B. Camm was born Sept. 16, 1915 in Lynchburg to the late Mrs. Ollie Mack Blair. She was a devoted Christian member of Court Street Baptist Church for 54 years. She is survived by four children, Helen C. Harris and husband, George W. Harris Jr., Roanoke, Leslie M. Camm Sr. and wife, Vivian M. Camm, Lynchburg, Alberta C. Boyd and husband, B. Frank Boyd, Hampton and Rodney M. Forrest S. Hudson
Forrest S. Hudson, 80, of Lynchburg, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998 at the Veterans Hospital in Salem. Born June 13, 1918 in Amherst County, he was a son of the late Sterling William and Ollie Sales Hudson. Mr. Hudson was an Army veteran of W.W.II and a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He was the last of 10 children, having preceded him in death were four brothers and five sisters, including Louise H. Elder with whom he made his home. He is survived by a daughter, Barbara H. Kimmel and her husband, Chester of Lynchburg, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the Mausoleum Chapel of Fort Hill Memorial Park by Dr. Jim Moon. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post #16. Thomas Clarence “Ike” Isenhour, 91, of 1011 11th Street, Altavista, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998 in Piney Forest Health Care Center. He was the husband of Lucy Viola Nichols Isenhour. Born March 18, 1907 in Hickory, N.C., he was a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Isenhour. He was a member of the First Pentecostal Holiness Church of Altavista for 48 years, a salesman with Electolux for 35 years, a retired employee of Burlington Industries and a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, Larry E. Isenhour and his wife, Barbara of Gastonia, N.C., Thomas Leon Isenhour of Columbus, Ohio, John C. Robey and his wife, Donese of Greensboro, N.C. and Troy W. Robey and his wife, Ada May of Hillsville; one daughter, Elnora Thomson and her husband, Perrin of Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Robert Isenhour and his wife, Mavis and Eugene Isenhour and his wife, Edith, 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Virginia “Jenny” Tyree Moore
Virginia “Jenny” Tyree Moore, 64, beloved wife of Randall “Randy” Moore, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998. Born Feb. 19, 1934 in Gladstone, she was the daughter of the late Claude William Tyree and Blanche Long Tyree. Mrs. Moore attended the Temple Baptist Church. She was a secretary at the Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation. She was the treasurer of the Campbell County Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul A. Tyree and Richard W. “Bill” Tyree. In addition to her husband, “Jenny” leaves behind a loving family of one son, Thomas M. Tyree Jr. and his wife, Rebecca “Joy” of Forest; one daughter, Tami T. Hurt and her husband, Bobby of Madison Heights; five grandchildren, Matt Tyree, Sarah Tyree, Brandon Hurt, Brooke Hurt and Ben Hurt; two sisters, V. Jean T. Gill and her husband, Gary D. of Lynchburg and Vivian T. Bryant of Bluefield, Va.; one brother, Leonard Lee Tyree of Lynchburg; one half brother, Claude “Snookie” Tyree and his wife, Peggy of Amherst and one special nephew, Butch Bryant and his wife, Kathy of Forest. Marty Sherwood Myers, 29, of 14101 Rockford School Road, Hurt, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998 in his home. Born March 31, 1969 in Campbell County, he was a son of Ethel Isla Lukin Myers and Mr. and Mrs. Morris Ray Myers all of Altavista. He was an employee of Best Way Towing Company. In addition to his parents, he is survived by one son, “Randy”; one brother, Tracy D. Irby of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; five sisters, Debra L. West and Cynthia M. Heflin both of Altavista, Kimberly M. Dooley and Marlo Rena’ Williams both of Bedford and Angelina D. Irby of Gretna; five half brothers, Kenneth E. Morgan of Eagleville, Tenn., Quintin R. Chester Eglon Proffitt
LOWESVILLE — Chester Eglon Proffitt peacefully went home on Nov. 4, 1998. Born in Amherst County, June 12, 1910, he was a son of the late Eglon M. Proffitt and Ada Fulcher Proffitt. His 88 years of life were filled with his two greatest loves, woodworking and family. He served in the last Calvary unit of the US Army. His working career included International Minerals Inc., Lynchburg Materials, LynLite and Central Virginia Training Center. After his retirement, Mr. Proffitt was able to pursue on a full time basis his love of woodworking. As a master furniture and clock maker, he produced family heirlooms for many generations to come. His constant companion, friend and wife of 63 years, Lois Bessie Cash Proffitt is left to cherish his memory. He is also survived by two daughters, Sarah Jane Proffitt Hughes and husband, Ted of Lowesville and Carolyn Fay Proffitt Jennings and husband, Robert (Bobby) L. of Amherst; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home and friends are welcome at any other time at the home of either of the daughters. Clarkson Meredith Averett Walker of Charlottesville, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998 at the University of Virginia Hospital. Born March 28, 1955 in Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Willie Wise Averett III and Meredith Taylor Averett. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mary Washington College. She earned her Master in Business Administration from the University of Virginia Darden Graduate School of Business. For many years she worked in the University of Virginia Division of Human Resources and for the past five years served as Research Administrator in the Department of Pharmacology in the School of Medicine at the University of Virginia. Clarkson is survived by her daughter, Carter Page Walker; two brothers, William Wise Averett of Annapolis, Md. and Henry Taylor Averett of Lynchburg; two sisters, Susannah Averett Dryman of Atlanta, Ga. and Martha Averett Clark of Lynchburg and eight nieces and nephews. Gollie of Coeburn; a sister, Irene Wade of Altavista; a brother, Lacy Guthrie of Nathalie; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. STAUNTON — Mrs. Karin Marie (Eriksen) Holcomb, 60, of 1940 Greenville Avenue, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 in the Augusta Medical Center. She was born Feb. 12, 1938 in Olso, Norway, a daughter of Einar and Else Marie (Gudmonsen) Eriksen. Mrs. Holcomb was previously employed by Genesco-L Greif Companies of Verona with 20 years of service. She was a member of Marquis Memorial United Methodist Church and received her U.S. citizenship in Aug. 1996. Survivors include her husband, George M. “Bill” Holcomb; three daughters, Lisa H. Terry of Lynchburg, Lynn H. Wagner and Cindy H. Bettye L. Kovitz
Bettye Lichtenstein Kovitz, beloved wife, mother, teacher, artist and friend, died Friday, Oct. 23, 1998 after a seven month struggle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer. Kovitz was born in Lynchburg, March 27, 1927 and moved to Calif. with her husband, Armand and their three children in 1963. A 1947 graduate of the Maryland Art Institute, Kovitz married her love of with her passion for educating young children. She began her teaching career at the Temple Emmanuel nursery school in San Bernardino, Calif. in the early 1960s. After moving to Claremont and while raising three children and teaching Head Start, Kovitz returned to school to obtain her BA in education from the University of La Verne in 1975. A firm believer in instilling a love of learning in young children. Kovitz was a creative and much loved early elementary teacher in the Pomona School District for 20 years. Upon her retirement, she continued to substitute teach and volunteer in the schools. As a retired teacher and artist, Kovitz was recruited to teach stained glass for Claremont Adult Education, which she did until early this year. She also shared her teaching talents with the California Library System’s literacy program, tutoring an adult learner for many years. Recently recognized for her years of service to the American Cancer Society (ACS), Kovitz was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by the Desert Sierra Region of ACS and received the Inland Valley Vanguard Award for leadership and courage. she was not only generous in the classroom, but opened her home to foreign students and visitors at Thanksgiving and other holidays and kept a stock of toys for visiting children. Kovitz is survived by her husband, Armand of 278 Wiley Court, Claremont, Calif. 91711; son, Randy; daughter, Roselle; sisters, Lois Hankin and Edythe L. Cohen and brother, Stanley Lichtenstein. Born in Kinston, N.C., Oct. 8, 1909, she was the daughter of the late John Hardy Sutton and Sarah Nancy Loftin Sutton. Mrs. Stern was a devoted member of the Fairview Christian Church where she was a member of the Loyal Sons & Daughters Sunday School Class. She retired from Lynchburg General Hospital as a nurse. Born Dec. 25, 1922, he was a son of the late Thomas Pinkney and Mary Elizabeth Morris Mehaffey. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School and the University of Virginia. He was vice president of the Lynchburg Sports Club in 1964-65, a former member of the Elks and Rotary Clubs and a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where he served on the Administrative Board and was Chairman of the Finance Committee. He was a WWII veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. Mr. Mehaffey’s career started with Scott, Horner and Mason and he went on to work with Francis I Dupont. He was a Partner and Senior Vice President of Anderson & Strudwick and retired from Davenport & Co. of Virginia, Inc. He was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Seaborn Mehaffey. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Paula Lee Mehaffey of Arlington and Nancy June Mehaffey of Lynchburg; two brothers, Aubrey Morris Mehaffey and his wife, Ann, Lawrence Pinkney Mehaffey and his wife, Bobbie; one brother-in-law, Terry D. He was a son of the late Grant Pannell and Mollie Hubbard Pannell. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of B.G.P. Industries in Altavista. Mr. Pannell was a member of the Spottswood Chapel Holiness Church of Gladys where he served on the Board of Deacons. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Emma Pannell of the residence; five sons, Gene Pannell of Hurt, Mose Edward Pannell and Curtis Pannell both of Altavista, Randolph Pannell of Chatham and Sherman Pannell of Long Island; four daughters, Carolyn Booth and Frances Calloway both of Altavista, Fannie Mae Tune of Rockymount and Nancy Pettigrew of Lynchburg; three brothers, Dock Pannell of Hurt, Herman Anderson of Columbus, Ohio and Grant Arthur Pannell of Long Island, N.Y.; one sister, Mrs. Nannie Mae Jones of Norfolk; 24 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Wash, Acie, Jim and Dave Pannell and five sisters, Nancy Pannell, Lorine Holland, Evelyn Gilbert, Maggie Lewis and Nona Simmons. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998 from the Spotts Wood Chapel Holiness Church in Gladys by Elder Alon Coleman with burial in the church cemetery with military honors by VFW Post #4165 and DAV Post #46 of Altavista. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998 at Miller Funeral Home and all other times at the residence. Miller Funeral Home, Gretna is in charge of arrangements.

Billie Jo Pippin
Billie Jo (Jodi) Pippin, 26, of Roseland, died suddenly Thursday, Oct. 29, 1998 in Piney River. Born in Charlottesville, Jan. 23, 1972, she was a daughter of Billy John Pippin and Betty Gowen Pippin. She had been employed as a Veterinarian’s Assistant for Dr. Steuart H. Ligon of Lovingston for many years, was a member of PETA, did private pet sitting and was employed at The Junction in Piney River. In addition to her parents, survivors include her husband, Daniel White; two daughters, Presley Grace Pippin and Skylar Noel Pippin; two brothers, John William Pippin of Tyro and Edward Dean (Dino) Pippin of Dallas, Ga.; three sisters, Betty Morris and Bobbie P. Campbell both of Amherst and Kathy Berryman of Roseland; very devoted friend, Massie Huffman of Piney River; in-laws, Clyde Stephenson and Betty and Jim Shelton, five nieces and three nephews. She was preceded in death by a nephew, Bo (Diddle) Pippin and a sister-in-law, Penny Pippin. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home by the Rev. C. Randall Harlow with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Melvin Alois Pugh
Melvin Alois Pugh, 63, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 1998 at the Virginia Baptist Hospital. Born in Lynchburg, March 30, 1935, he was the son of the late Jessie James Pugh and Hazel Candler Pugh. Mr. Pugh was a member of the Leawood Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Army. He retired with 35 years of service from Courtland Manufacturing Company. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Jessie Rucker Pugh, Royal Eugene Pugh and Walter Fred Pugh. He is survived by four sisters, Doris Pugh Routon of Lynchburg, Phyllis Pugh Thompson of Forest, Lois Byars of Lynchburg and Shirley Pugh Phelps of Lynchburg; two brothers, Reginald Winston Pugh of Madison Heights and Ralph Dennis Pugh of Lynchburg. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Leawood Baptist Church with the Rev. Lenn E. Lloyd and the Rev. Samuel Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. today at the Whitten Park Avenue Chapel. Whitten Park Avenue Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian Stewart Shelton
Lillian Stewart Shelton, 82, of Blacksburg, died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998 in Montgomery Regional Hospital in Blacksburg. She was born Sept. 3, 1916 in Ky., the daughter of the late James Stewart and Cora Parker Stewart. She retired from the Veterans Administration. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Herbert Preston Shelton; one niece and five nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Amherst Cemetery by the Rev. Glynn Coleman. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Monday at Whitten Monelison Chapel.

Mrs. Mary M. Wesley
On Oct. 30, 1998, God called Mary from this earthly home into his heavenly home. She departed this life at Lynchburg General Hospital at 2:44 p.m. Mary M. Wesley was born March 28, 1936 in Davy, W.Va., the daughter of the late Rev. C. Morris and Jamie Morris. She was the loving wife of Clarence Wesley for 44 years. She was a member of First Baptist South Lynchburg Church. Other than her husband, she is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law, Clarence E. Wesley and Mable Wesley of Madison Heights, Charles E. Wesley and Linda M. Wesley of Lynchburg, Darnell A. Wesley of Amherst; one daughter and one son-in-law, James Megginson and Carolyn Megginson of Madison Heights; five brothers and four sisters-in-law, Elder Frank Morris and Molly Morris of Lynchburg, James Morris and Nancy Morris of Cleveland, Ohio, Tyrone Morris of Concord, Hezikiah Morris and Arlene Morris of Lynchburg, Elijah Morris and Angie Morris of Madison Heights; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Dollie Wesley of Madison Heights, Doreatha Garland of Lynchburg, Marilyn Akers of Concord; a devoted aunt, Frances Brown of Altavista, 11 grandchildren and one devoted grandchild, seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at 2681 Galts Mill Road, Madison Heights. The funeral announcement will appear later. Her remains rest at Community Funeral Home.

Winston Dice White
Winston Dice White, 71, formerly of Forest, died Oct. 30, 1998 in Wichita, Kans. He was the son of the late Rose Keith and Gordon Henry White. He is survived by his wife, June; four children and five grandchildren all of Wichita, Kans., one brother, Robert C. White of Forest; three sisters, Gladys Farmer of Richmond, Octavia Sumpter of Lynchburg and Clarice White of Forest. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gordon Henry White Jr. and Howard K. White. All services will be conducted in Wichita, Kans.

Ruth Bowen Wynn
Ruth Bowen Wynn, 67, of Garden City, Ga., passed away Oct. 23, 1998. Born Dec. 8, 1930, the daughter of the late Ralph and Maude Bowen. She graduated from New London Academy. She is survived by one son, Greg Wynn and wife, Deborah of Poolen, Ga.; two daughters, Brenda Zeigler of Marco, Fla. and Sandy Wynn of Garden City, Ga.; two brothers, Dennis Bowen of Lynchburg, Edward Bowen of Las Vegas, N.V.; four sisters, Eloise Floyd of Lynchburg, Mae Webber, Marie Milas and Louise Brooks all of Forest and three grandchildren.
