Bruce Davis
Master Sgt. Bruce Davis, 82, of Richmond, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2001 at McGuire Veterans Hospital. Davis was born in Campbellsville, Ky. He was a World War II veteran who retired from the Air Force after 20 years of dedicated service. His awards include: the World War II Victory Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Medal, and the Air Force Commendation Medal. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #120, the Disabled American Veterans and the Non Comissioned Retired Officers Association. He is predeceased by his mother Ruby Gaines. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Davis, three sons, Bruce L. Davis of Los Angeles, Greggory B. Davis of Manassas; Preston K. Davis of Bloomfield Conn.; two daughters, Shirl Dunlap of Richmond, Rogenia Davis of Brooklyn, N.Y.; brother, Joseph Davis, sister, Jane Adams both of Springfield, Ill; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City. Funeral services will take place at 1 p. m. Tuesday at the Fort Myer Chapel, Ft. Myer. Interment to follow at Arlington National Cemetery. Pearl Mae Johnson, 52, of Fredericksburg, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Inova Fairfax Hospital. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Calverton. She is survived by her husband, Roy W. Johnson of Fredericksburg; three daughters, Lorraine Thorne of Fredericksburg, Tina McCanick of Manassas and Angel Johnson of Bealeton; one sister, Mary Lucas of Purcellville; two brothers, Frederick Young of Sterling and Irving Young of Fredericksburg; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Elise V. Johnson
Elise Vivian Johnson, 44, of Herndon, died Monday, Nov. 19, 2001, at Reston Hospital Center, Reston. She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Raymond C. Johnson Sr. She is survived by four sisters, Myrtle R. Johnson and Terrie L. Johnson, both of Falls Church, Melissa Robinson of Aldie, and Nina Sue Fields of Winchester; five brothers, Ronald Q. Johnson and Raymond C. Johnson Jr., both of Leesburg, Rodney C. Johnson and Ivan B. Johnson, both of Fairfax, and Byron G. Johnson of Manassas; and many other relatives and friends. Patricia Ann Couton, 69, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Beverly Health Care Center of Fredericksburg. She was a member of St. Josephat Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxillary, both in Nebraska. She is survived by three sons, Robert D. Couton, of Wahoo, Neb., Richard D. Couton of Crocker, N.J., and Michael W. Couton of Fredericksburg; one daughter, Suzan A. Obermiller of Arcadia, Neb.; two brothers, Charles B. Fahey of Diamond Bar, Calif. and James D. Fahey of Haymarket; one sister, Mary M. Bailey of Concord, Calif.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Elinor G. Melton
Elinor Griffith Melton, 85, of Nokesville, formerly of Exmore, died Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2001, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas. She was born January 28, 1916, in Allen, Md., the daughter of the late Robert and Susan Messick Griffith. She was a member of St. George’s Episcopal Church, Exmore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alvis Kermit Melton, who died in 1958. She is survived by two daughters, Marianne Goetting of Nokesville and Robin Hickman of Exmore; one sister, Mary Payne of Allen, Md.; and four grandchildren. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, at Hampton National Cemetery, Hampton. Virginia Carter Hill, 101, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2001, at Westminster at Lake Ridge. She had been a resident of Prince William County for most of her life. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and was also a retired teacher. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carleton Y. Hill. She is survived by her daughter, Erlyst Rae Brandon of Richmond; three sons, Frank M. Hill of Pompton Lakes, N.J., David C. Hill of Tamarac, Fla., and Carleton Y. Hill Jr. of Palm Coast, Fla.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Paul E. Burke, 67, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Prince William Hospital, Woodbridge. He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert I. and Tessie B. Andrew Lemond Brooks, 24, of Alexandria and Dale City, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Inova Fairfax Hospital. He attended public schools in Alexandria and Dale City. He was employed at Ridge Construction. Survivors include his parents, Robert and Jennifer Robertson; one daughter, Amazia Bird; one sister, Tameka Brooks; one brother, Shawn Robertson; his grandparents, Hallie Sue Brooks Meadows and Jannie Robertson and many other friends and relatives. David J. Combs
David Justin Combs, 22, of Woodbridge, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001 at Fairfax Hospital. He was a student at Independent Hill School and a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Dale City. He played on the Challenger Baseball Team and participated in the Special Olympics. He was a member of the Special Guys Bowling League and the Eddies Club and attended S.P.R.E.A.D. He enjoyed watching basketball and football games coolecting windsocks. Survivors include his parents, Jacob "Bob" and Mary Alice Combs of Woodbridge; one sister, Jennifer Combs of Woodbridge; his grandparents, Helen York of Woodbridge, Jean Combs of Inwood, W.Va.; and Lee and Beulah Combs of Dayton, Ohio; and his great-grandmother, Angela Dombrowski of Mt. Carmel, Pa. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church, 14160 Ferndale Drive, Dale City. Interment will follow at Quan-tico National Cemetery, Triangle. Evelyn M. Graham
Evelyn Myrtle Graham of Warrenton, formerly of Woodbridge, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Oak Springs Comprehensive Care Facility. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar W. Graham, and a son, James O. Graham. Survivors include one daughter, Doris Graham of Warrenton; two sons, Richard Graham of Warrenton and Kenneth Graham of Hamilton; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. James R. Hinderliter Sr.
James Ronald Hinderliter Sr., 76, of Woodbridge, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2001, at Orange County Nursing Home. He served more than 20 years in the Marine Corps in World War II and the Korean conflict. During World War II, he served with the 4th Marine Division in the South Pacific, fighting in the Battle of Iwo Jima. After retirement, he worked for a short time at Lorton Reformatory before going to work as an instructor for the U.S. Army Engineer School at Fort Belvoir. He was currently on the Board of Advisors for the 4th Marine Division Association. He was preceded in death by a son, James Ronald Hinderliter. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Doris Riley Hinderliter; two sons, Michael Hinderliter and Thomas Hinderliter; a daughter, Debra Ann Berrey; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Lucille Virginia King, 64, of Fredericksburg, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at the Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg. She worked as a day-care provider in Montclair. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. King Sr. Survivors include four daughters, Kathy Kirk of Dale City, Dorothy King of Fredericksburg, Linda Vandevander of Caroline County and Tammy King of Partlow; one son, Henry A. King Jr. of Princeton, W.Va.; three sisters, Margaret Harris of Arlington, Roberta Bellafato of Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Dorothy Haley of Waldorf, Md.; and one brother, Robert Harris of Waldorf. Brian Kristoff Sargent, infant son of John Sargent III and Kimberly Anne Testerman of Woodbridge, died Friday, Nov. 23, 2001, at Potomac Hospital. Helen Josephine "Jo" Shepard, 69, of Woodbridge, died Sunday, Nov. 25, 2001, at her home. She had been a resident of Woodbridge since 1969. She was a member of Marsh Road Baptist Church since its beginning in 1967, where she taught children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Bessie Woodson. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, the Rev. Billy Shepard; two daughters, Deborah Yoho and Kimberly Lawson; one son, John Michael Shepard; and five grandchildren. He attended Manassas Assembly of God, Bristow, and had retired in 1987 from Fairfax County Schools as a custodian at McLean High School after 25 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Roy and Brucie Bee Burner Walters; one sister, Mae Mc-Gee; and one brother, Robert Walters. Survivors include one brother, Carl Franklin Walters of Warrenton; and four sisters, Rose Tribby and Vergie V. Walters, both of Manassas, Beulah Fisher of Alexandria and Frances Beavers of Manassas. Nellie Ann Schooler Render, 71, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Manassas, died Nov. 29, 2001, at her home. She was a retired supervisor from IBM. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter L. and Rita Jett Schooler; and one son, Charles Render. Survivors include, two daughters, Brenda Wafel of Raleigh, N.C. and Valerie Freeman of Florida; one son, Gregory Render of Manassas; two brothers, Malone and Kenneth Schooler, both of Fredericksburg; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Otto A. Rodriguez
Otto Alberto Rodriguez, 49, of Triangle, died Nov. 29, 2001 at Northern Virginia Community Hospital. He is predeceased by his father, Otto Alberto Rodriguez Sr.; and his wife Judith Rodriguez. He is survived by his mother, Lourdes De Jesus of Bronx , N.Y.; two sons, Otto A Rodriguez Jr. of Arlington and Alex Rodriguez of Triangle; one daughter, LuAnne Rodriguez of Triangle; two brothers, Al De Jesus of Bronx, N.Y. and Richard De Jesus of Queens, N.Y.; one sister, Maritita De Jesus of Pocano, Pa.; and four grandchildren. Rodriquez was employed by Metro Transit in Washington, D.C. as a mechanic, and enjoyed customizing muscle cars of the 1960’s and 1970’s. He was referred to as a gladiator by his family due to the manner in which he fought his cancer. Marie H. Bolding
Marie Herndon Bolding, 80, of Manassas, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 at Prince William Hospital, Manassas. Bolding was a member of Manassas Baptist Church and Longview Homemakers Club, Manassas. She retired in 1972 from the U.S. Government Department of the Air Force with over 26 years of service. She was preceded in death by her husband, Calmer W. Bolding, who died in 1981. Survivors include her daughter, Bonnie Reddington of Manassas; three sisters, Edna Wolfe of Falls Church, Pat Moss of Dale City and Audrey King of Nokesville; four grandchildren, Michael Reddington and his wife, Kimberly of Manassas, Matthew Reddington of Fairfax, and Mitchell Reddington and Mark Reddington, both of Manassas; and two great-grandchildren, Brice Reddington and Cole Reddington, both of Manassas. Charles H. Dwyer
Charles H. Dwyer, 79, of Lake Ridge, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Potomac Hospital. Born in Sperryville, he served for 20 years with the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. In 1964, he went to work for the Department of the Navy, from which he retired in 1982. He moved to Prince William County in 1960, was a member of the VFW, the Navy Chiefs Association and was past president of the local chapter of the AARP. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Leah Dwyer of Lake Ridge; two daughters, Dr. Sandra Dwyer of Georgia and Patricia Mitchell of Lake Ridge; two sons, Charles H. Dwyer Jr. of Lake Ridge and James Dwyer of Maryland; one sister, Grace Gagner of Springfield; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City. A private burial with military honors will take place at Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle.

Zechariah J. Williams Sr.
Zechariah Jackson Williams Sr., died Sunday, November 25, 2001. He was preceded in death by his son, Wardell D. Craven; and one brother, Samuel J. Williams. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy L. Williams; seven children, Felise G. Mack, Louis Robert, Zechariah Jackson Jr., Jerome A., Jeffery A., Ahmed J. and Tomicula S. Williams. He was the beloved brother of Julia Harris and Chanie Engram. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Malcolm E. Empey, 61, of Manassas Park, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2001, in Orange County, Calif. He is survived by his wife, Samuella C. Empey; one son, John Myles Empey of California; two brothers, James C. Empey of New York and Myles C. Empey of New Hampshire; and three sisters, Barbara J. Prat and Karen Ann Hannigan, both of Massachusetts, and Betty Jean Kennedy of Texas. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Price Funeral Home, 9609 Center St., Manassas. Ronald Elwood Bowers, 62, of Manassas, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at his mother’s home in Inwood, W.Va. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He worked at Rockingham Construction Co. for 26 years and enjoyed working on cars. He is preceded in death by his father, George T. Bowers; and his wife, Joyce Ann Bowers. Survivors include his mother, Bessie A. Bowers; four sons, Hamilton H. Swart of Manassas, Walter L. Swart of Dale City, William K. Reel of Manassas Park and David W. Reel of Lawranceville; three daughters, Debora S. Bryant of Manassas, Sheila M. Elswick of Claremont, N.C., and Nancy Shatley of Bealeton; three brothers, Roy G. Bowers of Jefferson Hills, Pa., Danny R. Bowers of Stafford and Dale K. Bowers of Fredericksburg; four sisters, Dorothy J. Loving of Mechanicsville, Deanna K. Bruce of Thornburg, Janis R. Dean of Remington and Peggy L. Scott of Spotsylvania; 17 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Bowers was a kind and loving husband, father, brother, and son. He was loved and will be missed by many.
