CASTLEWOOD - Funeral services for James C. Gordon will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2002, in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel in Castlewood with the Rev. Bill Slemp officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mr. Gordon, 50, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.

Mary Lovenia Hale
BLUFF CITY - Mary Lovenia Hale died Sunday, April 7, 2002, at home. She was born in Richlands on July 13, 1965, and lived in the Bristol area for the past 23 years. She was a homemaker and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include daughter, Nikki Hinkle; son, Daniel Pickel; parents, Nadine and D.J. Hale, Bluff City; two brothers, Ray Hale, Bluff City, and half-brother, Randy Pickle, Baltimore; three uncles, Tommy Hale, Billy Hale and Eddie Dillon; special friends, Connie Taylor, Nora Reynolds and Joan Lockner; and several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2002, in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Martin Freeman officiating. The committal will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Crumley Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening following the funeral service at the Weaver Funeral Home.

ABINGDON - The Reverend Henry J. Holt Jr., 71, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at the Select Specialty Hospital-Tri-Cities. A memorial service has been planned for Friday, April 12, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Abingdon United Methodist Church with a reception to follow at the church. Georgia D. Mullins
CLINTWOOD - Georgia Marie Dotson Mullins, 69, died at Dickenson County Medical Center, Clintwood, on Saturday, April 6, 2002.
A lifelong resident of Dickenson County, she was the daughter of the late Noah Milburn and Ada Elkins Dotson. She was married to William "Bill" Mullins who, along with three-stepchildren, Billy Ray, Ercil Burns and Mason Jennings "Don" Mullins, six half-brothers, and three half-sisters, preceded her in death.
Surviving are five sons, Chris Lynn Mullins, Wise, Ronnie Dale Mullins, Noah Lee "Butch" Mullins and Bobby Joe Mullins, all of Clintwood, and Palmer Scott Mullins, Falcon Heights, Texas; five daughters, Connie Desilets, Minot, N.D., Ginger Sue Howell, Goodview, Va., Deborah Mecomber, Cameron, N.C., Williametta "Willie" Bryant, Clintwood, and Paula Cochran, Fayetteville, N.C.; eight stepchildren, Charles Mullins, Portsmouth, Ohio, Clinos Reed Mullins and Larry Miles Mullins, both of Bluff City, Elster Lee Hamilton, Coeburn, Louretta Reed, Stockdale, Ohio, and Mary Ann Richardson, Fredricksburg, Va.; five brothers, Noah Milburn Dotson Jr., Coeburn, Palmer Dotson, Abingdon, Bobby Dotson, Clintwood, Denver Dotson and Curtis Dotson, Ligonier, Ind.; three sisters, Virginia Hicks, Ligonier, Ind., Pauline Mullins, Clintwood, and Bernice Willoughby, West Virginia; two half-sisters, Ada Dotson, Abingdon, and Agnas James, Turnwater, Wash.; 34 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002, from the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lester Mullins and Rev. Clinos Mullins officiating. Entombment will follow at the Mullins Family Cemetery, Route 1, Clintwood. The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where an evening service will follow at 7 p.m. Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Lewis Fleming and David Lee.

Pansy E. Pace
ABINGDON - Mrs. Pansy "Pam" E. Pace, 88, formerly of Bristol, Va., died Sunday, April 7, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Chruch of Bristol, Va. She was a member of the Meadowbrook Garden Club. Mrs. Pace was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. Pace Sr.
Survivors include one stepson, Lawrence J. Pace Jr. of Hickory, N.C.; one granddaughter, Melissa Bolick of Hickory; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be condcuted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2002, in the Campbell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Campbell Funeral Home one hour prior to the service.

ABINGDON - Mrs. Gail Swenson Taylor, 50, died Saturday, April 6, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Born in Hamilton County, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Arvid Franklin Johnson and Virginia White Johnson. She had resided at the Jones Retirement Manor for the past several years and was employed at the Opportuniteis Unlimited Workshop.
She is survived by her husband, Don Taylor, of Jones Retirement Manor; a son, Elvis; and her many friends at Jones Retirement Manor.
The funeral service will be conducted at noon Tuesday, April 9, 2002, in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Max Jackson officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens in Abingdon. POUND - Clyde Vanover, 79, died April 6, 2002, at Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
Mr. Vanover was a retired coal miner. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Vanover was preceded in death by his wife, Delphia Phillips Vanover; his parents, Melvin Vanover and Cansady Bentley Vanover; and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are daughter, Margaret, and husband, Brian Osborne, Pound; granddaughter, Brianna Osborne; son, William Clyde and wife Donna Vanover, Pound; step-grandson, Keith Smith; and sister, Viola Kontz, Wise.
Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel of Baker Funeral Home, Pound. Calling hours are 6-9 p.m. Monday in Baker Funeral Home, Pound, with Elder Stacy Potter and Rev. MARION - David Timothy Wagoner, 36, died Friday, April 5, 2002, at home.
He was a member of the Wassum Valley Baptist Church and employed with Francis Brothers in Marion.
Survivors include: one daughter, Jessica Renee Wagoner, Sugar Grove; mother and father, David and Dorothy Wagoner, Marion; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Hazel Wagoner, Atkins, and Tony and Delena Wagoner, Marion; grandmother, Katie Whtt Hutton, Marion, and Mabel Wagoner, Marion; two nephews, Dillon and Mason; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends also survive.
Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Wassum Valley Cemetery with Rev. Guy Testerman officiating. Mrs. Baker, 71, of Bristol Virginia, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her home following a brief illness.

Thomas Barnett
RICHLANDS - Mr. Thomas (Ted) Barnett, 67, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, in a Tazewell hospital following a long illness. Born at Bandy, Va., on Aug. 16, 1935, he was the son of the late Albert W. Barnett Sr. and Bertha Lee Trivett Barnett. He was a retired coal miner and Federal Mine Safety inspector and a member of the U.M.W.A. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was a 1959 graduate of Richlands High School. He was a member of and Past Master of the Cedar Bluff Masonic Lodge 260, a member of the Commandry Lodge of Tazewell, Va., a member of the Kazim Shrine Temple of Roanoke and a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite. He was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, A.W. Barnett Jr. and Calvin Curtis Barnett; and two sisters, Dorothy Presley and Nell Richardson.
Mr. Barnett is survived by his wife, Mrs. Linda Mullins Barnett; one son, Daniel T. Barnett and wife Kathy of Evansville, Ind.; two grandchildren, Rebecca and Katilyn Barnett of Evansville; one sister, Mrs. Alberta Barnett of Bandy; four brothers, Leo Barnett of Amonate, Va., Roger Barnett of Amonate, Jack Barnett of Merritt Island, Fla., and Sam Barnett of Richlands.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in the Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Roger Monk officiating. Burial will follow in the Grandview Memory Gardens Cemetery at Bluefield, Va. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Casey-Shortt V.F.W. Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 D.A.V.

Ouida S. Berkeley
Mrs. Ouida Senter Berkeley, 89, of Bristol Virginia, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Berkeley was born in Dickenson County, Va.,. and raised in Roanoke. She was a retired employee of Sears. She was the widow of Nelson Berkeley Jr., who died in July, 1999. They moved to Bristol in 1947 from Roanoke. She was a member of Abingdon Presbyterian Church and former member of McIver Memorial Presbyterian Church. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, A.D. Harrison.
Survivors include two daughters, Nancy B. Harrison of Bristol Virginia, and Gail Daily Anglin and husband David L. Anglin of Ormond Beach, Fla. Also surviving are five grandchildren, David Nelson Harrison and wife Sherry of St. Joseph, Mich., Robin Berkeley Harrison and wife Jill of Bristol Tennessee, Kerry Lee Harrison and wife Melissa of Bristol Virginia, Sherrill (YoYo) Daily Jr. and wife Allison of Spring, Texas, Chantell Ouida Daily Moody and husband Greg of Lawrenceville, Ga. Also surviving are 10 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank her extended family of special loving caregivers who gave so much over the years during her battle with Alzheimer's Disease, Lori, Renee, Lou, Neva and Evelyn.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Mountain View Cemetery with Dr. Kyle Barr officiating. Carolyn D. Bowen, 54, of Bristol Tennessee, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her home.
She was born in Cincinnati, was a resident of Keokee, Va., for several years, later resided in Kingsport and currently in Bristol Tennessee.
Surviving are her father and mother, Hobert and Anna McEllyea, Keokee, Va.; two daughters, Renee White of Bluff City and Heather Bowen of Kingsport; two grandsons, Austin and Colton White; two sisters, Janice Kelley of Cincinnati and Annette Akers of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry C. Clyburn Sr.
RADFORD, Va. - Larry Chapman Clyburn Sr., 48, of 300 Fairfax St., died Wednesday morning, Sept. 25, 2002, in the Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C. He was born in New River, Va., on Oct. 3, 1953, and was the son of the late Charlotte Newman Gillespie.
Surviving are wife, Debbie Clyburn, Radford; father, Rev. Floyd Clyburn, Pulaski; children, Larry Chapeman (Chad) Clyburn Jr., Pulaski and Kathy Clark, Radford; grandchildren, Robbie Clark, Heather Clark and Austin Clyburn; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary and Ivan Phillips, Floyd, Dreama and Jimmy Presnell, Newton, N.C., and Pat and Garry Hudson, Dublin; sister and fiance, Kathy Lawson and Ronnie Wolfe, Abingdon; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Ethel Combow
OCALA, Fla. - Ethel Combow, 92, formerly of Lebanon, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002. She was born in Russell County, Va., the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillie Price Hawkins. Ethel was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the Pythian Sisters, Nonades and the Grange. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Combow.
She is survived by daughters, Doris C. Kestler of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Joyce Kernan of Ocklawaha, Fla.; sisters, Sada Thompson of Lady Lake, Fla., Eula Pyle of Ocala and Virginia Buffardi of Ocala; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Russell Memorial Cemetery, Lebanon.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the cemetery.

Viva H. Deel
BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. - Viva Alvertia Hamilton (Dede) Deel, 81 years of age, of Harman section, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2002, at her residence. Born in Wise County, she was the daughter of the late Lefate and Cynthia Hamilton. She was homemaker, a member of the Baptist church, loving mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dempsey Deel; three sisters; and four brothers.
She was survived by two daughters, Cynthia M. Anderson of Route 2, Grundy and Sandy Coleman and husband Ray of Bluefield, Va.; two sons, James Dempsey Deel Sr. of Route 2, Grundy and James Dempsey Deel Jr. of Lenoir, N.C.; and one sister, Nannie Pearl Helbert of Coeburn. She was also survived by six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stan Parish and Rev. Willard Owens officiating. Burial will follow in the Deel Cemetery on Bull Mountain, Harman, Va.
Family and friends will serve as active pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Dr. Clint Sutherland, Dr. Jeff Lawrence, Jim Goff, Warren Colley, Burl Ratliff and Roy Lester.
The body will remain at the funeral home where friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday where an evening service will be held at 7 p.m.

Ada Elam
Ada Belle Elam, 72, of Bristol Tennessee, went home to be with the Lord at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, 2002, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born on Oct. 9, 1929, in Watauga County, N.C., a daughter of the late Marvin and Biddie Houck Main, she had resided in this area since 1946.
Mrs. Elam was a homemaker and a member of the Landmark Freewill Baptist Church.
She will be remembered for all her love and generosity for everyone.
Mrs. Elam was preceded in death by her first husband, Walter Watson in 1953; her second husband, Henry Wayne Elam in 1992; a daughter, Sue Ellen Watson; two brothers, Walter Main and Robert Lee Main; and one sister, Virginia Main.
She is survived by five daughters, Joan Watson Pardue of Bristol Tennessee, Janet Jones of Bristol Tennessee, Teresa Steele of Bluff City, Amy Hall Turner of Bristol Tennessee and Sarah Rebecca Elam of Bristol Tennessee; five sons, Glen Watson of Bluff City, Kenneth Watson of Bristol Tennessee, Carson Elam of Bristol Virginia, Mike Elam of Bristol Tennessee and Joshua Daniel Elam of Bristol Tennessee; several special sons-in-law and daughters-in-law; four sisters, Ethel Woods of King George, Va., Margie Nell Miller of West Jefferson, N.C., Martha Pearl Miller of West Jefferson and Mary Ruth Pruitt of Charlotte, N.C.; five brothers, Johnny Main of Boone, N.C., Thomas Main of Todd, N.C., Glenn Main of Todd, Dean Main of Boone and Billy Main of Buffalo, N.C.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Margaret Griffin and Jimmy Trivette.
A special thank you is extended to the nurses on the second floor at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center, the ETSU Family Physicians and Dr. Wendy Vogel.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in the chapel of Weaver Funeral Home.
The Rev. Mike Abel, the Rev. Roger Carter, the Rev. T.J. Parks and the Rev. Bob Tester will officiate.
Burial will follow graveside services at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Rooty Branch Cemetery.

Margaret Virginia Harper, 84, 100 Moore St., Leisure Park Towers, Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol Tennessee. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rosa Mae Tester. Mrs. Harper was also preceded in death by her husband, John C. Harper Sr. and son, John C. Harper Jr. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include daughters, Betty Morrison, Bristol Virginia, and Barbara Dunn, Bristol Virginia; son, James A. Harper, Bristol Virginia; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Gaines S. King
BLOUNTVILLE - Entombment for Gaines Stephenson (Steve) King will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, in the Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon. Those attending should meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Friday to go in procession to the mausoleum. Pallbearers will be Jarvis Vicars, Jim Honaker, Tom King, Bob Chafin, Benton Chafin, Bob Barnette, Jon Booher, Johnny Quillen and Jacky Powers.
Mr. King, 53, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Combs Funeral Service in Lebanon is serving the family of Mr. King.

Bettie Geraline Miracle
NORTON - Funeral services for Bettie Geraline Miracle will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. B.F. Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Miracle, 63, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, in St. Mary's Residential Hospice in Knoxville.

James W. Morris
James W. Morris, 85, of Bristol Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002, at his residence.
