ABINGDON - Kimberly Susan Townes Popp died Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002. She was a member of the St. Paul Episcopal Church and was preceded in death by her father, Thomas "Mutt" Townes; a sister, Teresa Harrison; her grandparents, Harvey and Martha Fogleman; and her aunt, Joyce Anderson.
She is survived by her mother, Anna Lee Laws of Abingdon; special friends, Paul Pyle of Bristol Virginia and Jim Smith of Abingdon; stepsister, Lisa Laws of Atlanta; an aunt, Patty Allison of Bristol Tennessee; cousins, Joel Allison of Bristol Tennessee, Jason Allison of Knoxville, David Anderson of Lebanon, Va., and Jennifer Anderson of Johnson City.
A memorial service will be conducted at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. John E. Massey Jr. officiating.

Amanda Ethel Presley
HAGERSTOWN, Md. - Amanda Ethel Presley, 89, of Stonecroft Court, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown. Born Oct. 28, 1913, in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Ira and Rose Etta O'quinn James. She was a homemaker, a member of AARP and attended the Duty View Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sampson Presley in 1978; one son, Gary D. Presley; and four brothers, Claude James, Jesse James, Leonard James and Garland James.
Survivors include a daughter, Beulah Ann Bonham of Gordonsville, Va.; a son, Harold W. Presley of Hagerstown; two sisters, E. Garnet Price of Hagerstown and Arbutus Langley of Hawthorne, Fla.; a brother, Edward T. James of Gainesville, Fla.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Duty View Primitive Baptist Church with Elders Bobby Arrington, Garnell Gilbert, Bill Stevens and Leonard Barton officiating. Burial will follow in the O'quinn Cemetery at Bee, Va. The family will receive friends at Haysi Funeral Home on Friday after 6 p.m., where a service will be held at 7 p.m.

Howard C. Ritter
Mr. Howard Cameron Rittter, 62, went to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at the Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Kingsport. Born in McDowell County, W.Va., Mr. Ritter was a son of the late Bramelett Ritter and Faye Hurt Ritter. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Dickie Roy Ritter.
He is survived by his wife, Lola Elizabeth Ritter; a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy Renee Gentry and Kim Allen Gentry of Bristol Tennessee; a very special grandson, Allen Scott Gentry of Bristol Tennessee; two brothers, David Ritter and Daniel Ritter, both of Bristol Virginia; and two sisters, Patricia Cumbo and Lois Perrigan, both of Bristol Tennessee.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the graveside in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Walter Statzer officiating. Casketbearers will be Allen Gentry, George Houser, David (Spider) Owens, Jason Fields, Eddie Fields and Jake Faust. Honorary casketbearer will be Dr. David H. Franzus. The family would like to give thanks to all the special nurses and support staff at the Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Kingsport. Family, friends and pallbearers attending the service are asked to assemble at the cemetery by 1:50 p.m. Saturday. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

D. Joe Sorrell Jr.
ELIZABETHTON - D. Joe Sorrell Jr., 40, died of complications from leukemia on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. He was born in Bristol Tennessee and was valedictorian of the 1980 graduating class of John S. Battle High School. Upon graduation, he was awarded a Massengill Scholarship. He attended Virginia Tech and earned as associate degree in chemical engineering from Northeast State Technical Community College. He was a member of Chestnut Flats Primitive Baptist Church in Kingsport. He was a loving and devoted husband and father, loved music, played the drums in high school and in college, and was a kindred spirit with animals.
Survivors include his soul mate, Penny Keefer Sorrell; a daughter, Kaitlyn Callista Sorrell, age four, of the home; two sons, Dustin Towers Sorrell, age 15 months, of the home, and Ryan Paul Creason, age 13, Johnson City; his mother, Linda Baker and her husband Tommy of Bristol Virginia; his father, Daniel Sorrell of Bristol Virginia; Paula Sorrell of Kingsport; two brothers, Stephen Alex Sorrell and wife Jill and their children of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and Tommy Baker of Bristol Virginia; his maternal grandparents, David and Marie Wilson of Bristol Tennessee; and Violet Keefer and family of Elizabethton.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Woody and Frances Sorrell and Charlie and Rose Baker; father-in-law, John F. Keefer; and Tulva Arnold.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7 o'clock Friday evening in the Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Elder Lewis Baker, Elder John Bowlin and Elder Harold Shaw officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The committal service and burial will be at 1:30 Saturday afternoon in Miller Cemetery on Reedy Creek Road. Pallbearers will be Tommy R. Baker, Carl Dickenson, Brett Kilgore, Bart Kilgore, Larry McMurray and Jesse Pitcock. Honorary pallbearers will be Joey Boothe, Marty Keefer, Frank Osborne, Terry Rutherford, Floyd Sullins Jr. and Dr. Adetla Kassim. Dora Belle Stevens
VANSANT - Dora Belle Stevens, 83, of Route 1, passed away Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Buchanan General Hospital in Grundy. Born in McDowell County, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Hannabel and Laura Justice Collins. She was a homemaker and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Anna Mae Stevens.
Survivors include her husband, Jasper "Babe" Stevens; three sons, Charles Stevens and wife Patsy of Vansant, Melvin A. Stevens amd wife Judy of Grundy, and Virgil Stevens and wife Dianna of Welch, W.Va.; one daughter, Hazel Huffman and husband Richard of Lebanon, Va.; two sisters, Dovie Collins and Lena Mounts of Panther, W.Va.; one brother, Edgar Collins of Panther; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at Haysi Funeral Home with Rev. Roy Lee Wilson and Rev. Don Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow in the Stevens Cemetery, Bee, Va. Grandsons and Kermit Lester will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 20, where a song service will be held at 7 p.m. with Rev. Carson Powers.

Evelyn Vance of No. 15 Virginia Drive, Bristol, Va., died Thursday at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Emma Marie Witman
Emma Marie Witman of Bristol Tennessee passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. A native of Yugoslavia, she was the son of the late Ferdinand and Margaret Stalzer, and she lived in the Bristol area since 1986. She was a homemaker and was a member of the St. Anne's Catholic Church.
Survivors include husband of 46 years, Richard Witman; daughters, Robin Russell, Nashua, New Hampshire, and Patricia Toribio, Redwood Valley, Calif.; brothers, Walter Stalzer and Henry Stalzer, both of Cleveland, Ohio; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A Funeral Mass will be conducted at noon Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in the St. Anne's Catholic Church with Reverend Timothy Keeney, Pastor of St. Anne's Catholic Church, assisted by Rev. Mr. Harry L. Hall. Entombment will follow in the Glenwood Mausoleum. Pallbearers will be men of the St. Anne's Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. Special thanks to the Adult Respite Care Center of Central Presbyterian Church and the Children of St. Anne's Catholic School. Walter Buck Chase
Walter Buck Chase, 52, of 133 Spring Valley Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital. He was the son of Walter S. and Virginia Buck Chase. He was employed by Raytheon as a senior planner. He was a member of Zollicoffer Masonic Lodge 444.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Marilyn Law Chase; three sons, Shaun Michael Chase of New York, Justin Law Chase of Bluff City and Joshua Allen Chase of Bristol, Tenn.; one grandson, Logan McKenzie Chase; and sister, Joann Easton of Bangor, Maine.

MARION - Robert Madison Cornick Jr., 76, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in Roanoke.

ABINGDON - The funeral service for Mr. Garnett Odell Duncan will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Craig Duncan, David Duncan, Ernest Lynn Duncan, Shermie Lamie, Phil Cowan and Tim Wynegar. Bruce Stone will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Mr. Duncan, 84, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Johsnton Memorial Hospital.

Darrell D. Gobble Sr.
Darrell Dean Gobble Sr., 44, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Monday, May 13, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was born July 14, 1957, and was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area. He was of the Baptist faith and employed with Ross Prestress.
Survivors include his wife of 15 years, Mary (Micki) Booher Gobble; son D. Dean Gobble Jr.; stepdaughter, Amanda Wilson; mother and stepfather, Evelyn and Hulen Orfield; sisters Trula Cregger, Doris Mabe and Millie Lawrence; brothers James Gobble and Hulan Orfield Jr.; many special friends; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, May 16, 1002, at Forest Hills Cemetery with the Rev. Walter Statzer officiating. Pallbearers will be Steven Booher, Doug Horner, Danny Leonard, Jason Bentley, Steve Hayden and Josh Hayden. BLUFF CITY - Allen David Oliver, 66, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home, Tenn. Mr. Oliver was born Jan. 23, 1936, to the late George and Anna Mae Oliver. He was a U.S. Army veteran, retired security guard with Spartan Security Systems and attended Sunset Village Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Peggy Pendergrass Oliver; three sisters, Carrie Rutledge, Geneva Grubb and Ruby Calhoun; three brothers, Clarence Oliver, John Oliver and Raymond Oliver; and several nieces and nephews.

RADFORD - Hattie Harper Segims, 63, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Valley Health Care in Chilhowie. Born in Smyth County, she was the daughter of the late George Washington and Mary Sawyers Harper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Segims and also by four brothers and one sister. Survivors include two children, Dena and John; five sisters, Minnie E. Brown of Marion, Dora Parker of Buffalo, N.Y., Mary Jane Harper of Galax, Bernice Matthews of California and Jenelle Patton of Manassas, Va. Memorial services will be held Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Andrew Arnold and Rev. Wallis Brown officiating. ABINGDON - Mr. Stafford Clayborn Taylor passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Taylor was born June 27, 1920, in Washington County to the late Judge Hutton Taylor and Cora Etta Duncan Taylor. He was a member of Brumley Gap United Methodist Church and served as a corporal in the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee of maintenance at Johnston Memorial Hospital with 34 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Jane Kingsley Taylor; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Tony Worley of Abingdon and Wanda and Mark Baumgardner of Abingdon; one son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Teri Taylor of Brainerd, Minn.; two granddaughters and their husbands, Cyndi and Curt Stein of Abingdon and Kristi and Adam Heath of Blacksburg; two grandsons, Joshua and Chase Baumgardner; one great-grandson, Tyler Stein; a brother, Alfred Taylor of Abingdon; and a sister, Geraldine Duncan Minnick of Abingdon.
The funeral service will be conducted Friday, May 17, 2002, at 4 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Maynard Clifton and Rev. Tony Nunley officiating.
Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park with military honors to be conducted by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975.
Pallbearers will be Ruddy Duty, Don Lee, Wade Nunley, Bill Brooks, Bobby Wise, Ed Moore, Don Minnick and Tom Taylor.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ruth Ann and Max Dolinger of Bristol, Tenn.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Maria Webster of Roanoke; one sister, Mary Hockett of Abingdon; one brother, Bob Hockett of Salem; three grandchildren, Lee Ann Kelley and husband, Tim, Steve Dolinger and wife, Angela, and David Dolinger and wife, Jan; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Barton, 45, of the Ivy Ridge section, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in a Fredericksburg, Va., hospital.

Deborah J. Cobb
Deborah Joan Cobb, 41, of 1404 Texas Ave. passed peacefully from this life after a lengthy illness on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002. She was the daughter of the late Marion E. Leonard and Betty Mercer Leonard. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Leonard and infant sister, Ella Leonard. Debbie was a believer and loved our Lord Jesus. She was of the Baptist faith.
She leaves behind two loving children, Sara Dixon and Edward "Eddie" Leonard of the home; two sisters, Sue Labuade of Woodbridge and Joyce D. Bush of Fredericksburg; one brother, Marion Leonard Jr. of Woodbridge; two very loving grandchildren, Mia and Bailey Dixon; her cousin and lifelong friend, Rebecca Fugate, they went through this last battle together. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. She leaves many friends. We thank God for the wonderful generous heart He gave her.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002, at the graveside in Rooty Branch Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Weaver Funeral Home. There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Geneva East
FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Geneva "Cap" East, 88, of Ossian Health Care died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2002.
She was the daughter of the late Sylvester Sansom and Ona Gooslin.
She was employed by Peter Eckrich & Sons for 33 years, retiring in 1981. She was a member of United Faith Presbyterian Church, Fort Wayne, and United Daughters of the Confederacy 2597.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Lee East.
Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Denny and Linda Hanson, both of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Lewis East, of National City, Calif.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2002, from 3-7 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home, Bristol, with the Rev. Eugene Deaton officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2002, at Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol Tennessee.
C.M. Sloan and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Weaver Funeral Home, Bristol, is in charge of local arrangements.

Barbara Eller
Barbara Ann Goodwin Eller of 11607 Goose Creek Road went to be with the Lord, Friday, Oct 4, 2002, at home. She was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Mildred Thomas Goodwin. She was a homemaker and was a member of Gateway Baptist Church. She was the widow of Charles Donald Eller. Mrs. Eller was also preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Frye.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-laws, Diana and Garry Mathesuis and Reginia and Nathan Large; one son Perry Slagle and very special family friend, Darlene Booher; one sister, Shirley Ingle; three brothers, Richard A. Goodwin, N. Wayne Goodwin and Donald Goodwin; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Oct. 7, 2002, in Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Donald Shinault and Rev. Dennis Burnette officiating. Entombment will be in Mountain View Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Gateway Baptist Church, P. O. Box 3621, Bristol, TN 37625. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Weaver Funeral Home.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
