WYTHEVILLE - Funeral services for Rev. Robert C. Holmes will be conducted Saturday, June 8, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Richlands Tabernacle Church in Richlands with the Rev. Ralph Horton and Rev. Kenneth Fogus officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Pallbearers will be David Horton, Don Horton, Phillip Horton, Richard Holmes, Otis Musick and Jim Wilson. Honorary pallbearers will be Max Smith, Mark Smith, Stanley Houchins, Ray Smith, grandsons and nephews. Members of Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 DAV will conduct military graveside rites.
Rev. Holmes, 80, formerly of the Richlands and Rosedale, Va., areas, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at home following a lengthy illness.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands is in charge of arrangements.

Barbara W. Kaufman
LEBANON - A memorial service for Barbara "Sandy" Watkins Kaufman will be conducted at noon Saturday, June 8, 2002, in Combs Funeral Service Chapel in Lebanon with the Rev. Mike Carter officiating. Burial will follow in Russell Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 158, Lebanon, VA 24266.
Mrs. Kaufman died unexpectedly Sunday, June 2, 2002, at her home in Greenwich, Conn.

GATE CITY - Funeral services for Ella Ruth Hartsock Kegley will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, in Combs Funeral Service Chapel in Lebanon with the Revs. Harold Hawkins, R.G. Rose and Cliff Duncan officiating. Music will be provided by Sincerity. Burial will follow in Grassy Creek Community Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Kegley, 64, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

John Lee
CEDAR BLUFF - John Lee, 96, of the Baptist Valley section passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, at home following an extended illness. Born in Buchanan County, he was the son of the late Preston and Myrtle McClanahan Lee. He was a resident of Buchanan County, prior to moving to Cedar Bluff, a former employee of Ritters Logging Co., retired coal miner of Big Rock Coal Co. and a member of UMWA Local Union 1640 and IOOF 17 of Grundy. He was a member of Big Rock Church of Christ and Central Church of Christ. Mr. Lee was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Lee is survived by his wife of 57 years, Virginia Stiltner Lee of Cedar Bluff; two daughters, Dianna (Jim) Shelton of Baptist Valley and Dorothy (Donald) Rose of Claypool Hill; four sons, Jerry (Wilma) Lee of Baptist Valley, Junior (Joan) Lee of Baptist Valley, Anthony (Patricia) Lee of Baptist Valley and Neal (Christina) Jones of Baptist Valley; one sister, Stella Lester of Big Rock; and 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Lester, Nancy Jane Taylor, Edith Mullins and Carrie Breeding; two brothers, Thomps Lee and Jennings Lee; one daughter, Rosing Lesso; two grandsons; and one granddaughter, Jane Taylor.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, June 9, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel with Evangelists Michael Trent and Bob Miller officiating with burial to follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park, Big Rock.
Friends may call at Grundy Funeral Home Chapel after 6 p.m. tonight and Odd Fellow Rites will be conducted tomorrow night at 7 p.m. by members of IOOF 17 with services immediately following.
Active pallbearers will be Jim Shelton, Jerry Lee, Anthony Lee, Neal Jones, Alfred Lester, Terry Lee, Junior Lee and George Spencer.
Grundy Funeral Home of Grundy is in charge of all arrangements.

Pauline B. Long
ANDOVER, Va. - Pauline B. Long, 86, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, at Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport. She was born in Inman, Va., and had lived the past 60 years in Andover. She was a member of Andover United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Jack Long of Andover; daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bill Myers of Big Stone Gap; son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Linda Long of Bristol, Va.; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Chip and Mary Jo Myers of Big Stone Gap and Kevin and Lisa Myers of Bentonville, Ark.; four great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Andover United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tony Nunley officiating. Burial will follow in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday.

Patrick F. McCarthy
MONTVALE, Va. - Patrick Frank McCarthy, 60, of 1463 Pike Road passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, at the home of his sister in Bristol, Va.
He was a lifelong resident of the Roanoke area, where he was employed by the Roanoke City School Board.
Patrick was a caring father who was loved by family and friends. He will be greatly missed. Go in peace, Dad. You were a good man.
Survivors include one son, Donald McCarthy of Blountville; one daughter, Tracy Voight of Pierz, Minn.; one brother, John Andrew McCarthy of Danville, Ind.; three sisters, Agnes Hurt of Bristol, Va., Kathleen Hodges of Ashland, Ky., and Patricia Teague of Lexington, Ky.; and two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Akard Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6-7:45 p.m. Monday at Akard Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his sister, 505 Glenway Ave., Bristol, Va. Violet G. McNew
GATE CITY - The committal service and burial for Violet Grimsley McNew will be at 11 o'clock Saturday morning in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. McNew, 87, 13506 E. Carters Valley Road, died Thursday, June 6, 2002, at HolstonValley Medical Center in Kingsport.
Arrangements especially for Mrs. McNew have been made through Blevins Funeral Home.

Ralph M. Mulkey
RICHLANDS - Mr. Ralph Marshall Mulkey, 82, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, at home following a long illness. Born in Tazewell County, he was the son of the late Frazier and Mary Marshall Mulkey. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Viola Nowlin, Mary Lena Giovia and Jane M. Dawson.
Mr. Mulkey is survived by his wife, Kathleen Gilbert Mulkey; one son, Mr. Michael Mulkey of Richmond; one daughter, Mrs. Jeri Clark of Cedar Bluff; son-in-law, Douglas P. Clark of Cedar Bluff; three brothers, Raymond Mulkey of Martinsville, Frazier Mulkey Jr. of Narrows, Va., and Roger Mulkey of Lexington, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Phyllis Martin of Madison Heights, Va.; two grandchildren, Anna Christine Harvey of Mt. Morris, Pa., and Richard Shane Silcox of Cedar Bluff; and two great-grandchildren, Zachary Wayne Harvey and Savannah Dawne Harvey.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2002, in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Grady McGlothlin and Rev. Barry Absher officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 DAV will conduct military graveside rites.

HONAKER - Funeral servcies for Mrs. Odessa Musick will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Brother Les Ritchie and Mr. David Miller officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Tim Ball, Mike Hilton, Wayne Hess, Brian Hess, Rick Hess and Bradley Honaker.
Mrs. Musick, 86, passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2002, in a Lebanon hospital.

Norma Peters
KINGSPORT - Norma C. (Sis) Peters, 78, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, after an extended illness.
Born in Smyth County, Va., she lived most of her life in Kingsport. She worked for Dr. T.B. Yancey for 16 years and Dr. Paul F. Brookshire for 36 years.
She attended Mill Creek Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Myrtle Cassidy; brother Rev. Robert M. Cassidy; two special sisters-in-law, Alma Cassidy and Lucille Peters; and infant granddaughter, Cindy Galloway.
Surviving are her husband, Orville Peters of Kingsport; one daughter and son-in-law, Jonnie and Vernon Galloway of Kingsport; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Anne Peters of Kingsport; three grandchildren, T.J. Galloway, Erin Peters and Michael Peters; one great-grandson, Tyler Galloway; aunt Margaret Little of Kingsport; uncle Robert Brown of Kingsport; several special nieces; and one nephew.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Jim Mullins officiating.
Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Sam Mullins, Tim Mullins, Larry Varner, Wallace Grills, Robert Cassidy, T.J. Galloway, Michael Peters, Brian Waldo and Kaci Wright.

Bonnie C. Reed
ABINGDON - Bonnie Cloe Johnson Reed, 85, died Thursday, June 6, 2002. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul T. and Barbara Reed of Abingdon and Maurice D. and Jean Reed of Abingdon; two sisters, Virgie Needon of Pennsylvania, and Loane Whitaker of Damascus; one brother, Paul Johnson of Abingdon; five grandchildren, Tina Reed of Abingdon, Teressa Reed of Texas, Sonny Reed of Abingdon, Lisa Frye of Damascus and Michael Reed of Abingdon; and two great-grandchildren, Lakin Frye and Amanda Frye.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Robert Neace officiating. The family will receive friends at Campbell Funeral Home from 7-9 Saturday evening. Those wishing to express sympathy online may do so at www.campbell-funeralhome.com. William K. Ruble
THAXTON, Va. - Mr. William Kyle (Billy) Ruble, 77, formerly of Richlands passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, in a Bedford hospital following a long illness. Born at English, W.Va., he was the son of the late Byron C. and Lorena Pruett Ruble. He was a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He was a retired coal miner with Island Creek Coal Co. and a member of the UMWA.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Dean Bandy Ruble; and one sister, Ella Mae Fletcher.
Mr. Ruble is survived by one sister, Mrs. Joyce Myers of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a special friend, Dora Bandy Preuss of Thaxton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, 2002, in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. R.T. Helmandollar officiating. Burial will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery at Claypool Hill. Pallbearers will be friends.
The family will receive friends at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff from 6-9 p.m. Saturday.

DORAN BOTTOM, Va. - Graveside services for Dewey F. Taylor will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 8, 2002, in the Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill with Rev. Bud Fugate officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by Casey-Shortt VFW Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 DAV.
The family will receive friends at Greenhills Mausoleum after 1 p.m. Saturday
Mr. Taylor, 80, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 5, 2002, following a long illness.

Evangeline Vencille
ABINGDON - Mrs. Evangeline Vencille, 72, formerly of Richlands, passed away Thursday, June 6, 2002, in a Bristol, Tenn., hospital following a brief illness.
She was born in Russell County and was the daughter of the late Douglas A. and Della Artrip Jackson, both Russell County natives.
She had made her home in the Richlands area for 50 years prior to moving to Abingdon 13 years ago. She was a graduate of Temple Hill High School in Castlewood and was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church in Abingdon. She was also a member of the United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Clayton Vencille; one granddaughter, Tonya Gross; and three brothers, Buford, Denny and Harold Jackson.
Survivors are six daughters, Mrs. Martha Belcher and husband, Joe, of Raleigh, N.C., Mrs. Kathy Garland and husband, Harley, of Abingdon, Mrs. Darlene Cooper and husband, David, of Virginia, Mrs. Connie Osborne and husband, Jack, of Abingdon, Mrs. Melissa Hall and husband, Monroe, of Rocky Mount, Va., and Miss Charlotte Vencille of Cedar Bluff; one sister, Mrs. Dorothy Kiser of Goodview, Va.; one brother, Mr. David Jackson of Goodview; eight grandchildren, James White, John Hickman, Beth Jackson, Jessica Fritz, Josh Shelton, Cellie Belcher, Chas Vencille and Luci Hall; two great-grandchildren, Zachary Fritz and Kyle Hickman; and two step-great-grandchildren, Racheal Jackson and Rochelle Jackson also survive.
Special thanks to Dr. Patrick Wallace and the nursing staff at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, June 8, 2002, at 8 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with the Rev. Larry Carroll officiating. Interment will be Sunday, June 9, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Va. Grandsons and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

George Lee Boy Jr.
Funeral services for George Lee Boy Jr. will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2002, in the Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Tony Collins officiating. Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, 2002, in the Shelby Hills Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Boy, 76, of Bristol Virginia, died Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

BLUFF CITY - A committal service Patti Kay McNew DePew will be held Thursday at noon in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be nephews and friends. Family and friends are to meet at the cemetery before the service on Thursday.
Miss DePew, age 41, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at the Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Harry J. Fannon Jr.
EXETER, Va. - Harry "Preacher" Jacob Fannon Jr., 80, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, at his home. He was a former resident of Stonega, Va., and had lived the last four years in Exeter. He was a member of U.M.W.A. Local 1055 and had worked for Westmoreland Coal Co. for 42 years. He had served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Santa Fe. He was a member of the Stonega Calvary Baptist Church and also attended the Appalachia Pentecostal Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and Rev. Harry Fannon Sr.; two brothers, Walker Fannon, and an infant brother; and his first wife, Eula Fannon.
Survivors: wife, Lillie Fannon, Exeter; three daughters and sons-in-law, Linda Fannon, Duffield, Va., Nancy and Danny Fox, Big Stone Gap and Michelle and Charlie McCracken, Appalachia; son, Jeff Fannon, Gray, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Michael Fox, Kingsport, Matthew Fox, Castlewood, Juli Fannon, Raleigh, N.C., Jacoby Fannon, Gray, Jerrica Fannon, Sanford, N.C., and Amanda Hartsock and Connor McCracken, both of Appalachia; two great-grandchildren, Jarrett Fox, Kingsport and Brooke Fox, Castlewood; and three sisters, Lois Jean Richardson, Bloomingdale, Tenn., Mary Bell, Church Hill, Tenn., and Juanita Woods, Kingsport.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, at the Appalachia Pentecostal Church with the Rev. Roy Smith and Rev. Rick Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Military graveside services will be held at the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 30. Family and friends will meet at the church at 10 a.m. Saturday. Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, is in charge of arrangements.

Grace Fugate
BLOUNTVILLE - Grace Victoria Hawkins Fugate, 94, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice house. She was born in Russell County, Va.,. and was of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milburn and Sarah Hawkins; her husband, James W. Fugate; sons, Walter and Millard Fugate; three sisters; and three brothers. Survivors include five daughters, Erma Stull of Blountville, Betty Wilson and Lois Harless of Bristol, Kathleen Cook of Roanoke and Carolina Stevens of Henry, Va.; one sister, Patsy Collins; two brothers, Carlos and Ralph Hawkins; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Carl Young officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
