ABINGDON - June Elaine Humphrey, 81, of 24872 Walden Road, died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at her home.
She was born in Dickenson County, Va., daughter of the late Ruel H. and Pearl Phillips Martin. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Castlewood and was preceded in death by her husband, George Humphrey.
She is survived by three daughters, Barbara Price and husband, Wayne of Abingdon, Patty Humphrey of Kingsport and Vivian Rasnick and husband, Dennis of Dante, Va.; four sons, Tony Humphrey and wife, Clariece of Charlottesville, Va., Bobby Humphrey and wife, Judy of Abingdon, Robert Humphrey and wife, Jane of Bristol Tennessee and Wayne Humphrey and wife, Brenda of Abingdon; one sister, Beryl Rasnake of Detroit; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel in Castlewood, on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Leonard Ferguson and Rev. Jim Pratt officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood. Pallbearers will be Anthony Price, Todd Humphrey, Pat Barker, Pat Messer, Kevin Ramey, Jonathan Palmer, Dennis Blevins and Stephen Smith. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, Route 1, Box 332, Castlewood, VA 24224.

Uba Fletcher McDilda
ABINGDON - Funeral services for Uba Fletcher McDilda will be held Thursday evening at 6 p.m. at Farris Funeral Service. Rev. Chuck Trent will officiate.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill with Rev. Wayne F. Chant officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ike Thomas, Junior Blevins, Charlie Perkins, Brian Mercer, Fred McGlothin Jr., Winfred McGlothin, Frazier McGlothlin and Glen Coffman.
The family wishes to express their deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and nurses at Johnston Memorial Hospital and the Wellmont Medical Center in Bristol Tennessee. Also, especially to the wonderful nurses and volunteers at the Wellmont Hospice. Thank you for caring for our mother.

Mrs. McDilda, 64, our sweet, gentle mother, went to be with God at 4:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at Wellmont Hospice in Bristol with all her children by her side.
She was born in Jewel Ridge, Va., to the late Clarence and Mary Elswick Fletcher. She was a member of Trigg Street Church of God. She was employed with Long John Silvers since 1979 where she worked as assistant manager.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Charity McDilda; a brother, Ollis Fletcher; and sisters, Helen F. McGlothlin and Ceila F. Stinson.
Survivors include two sons, Robert C. McDilda Jr. of Corvallis, Ore., and Clarence (David) McDilda of Bristol Virginia; two daughters, Martha (Arlene) McDilda of Knoxville, and Mary M. Millsap of Abingdon; one brother, Waldon Fletcher of Plant City, Fla.; two sisters, Fern F. Hutson and Effie F. Davis, both of Tampa, Fla.; four grandchildren, Chris Besse McDilda, Alyssa Faye Charity McDilda and Corey Logan McDilda, all of Bend, Ore., and Traci Michelle Millsap of Abingdon.
Farris Funeral Service of Abingdon is serving the McDilda family.

Naomi Morelock
Naomi Morelock, 90, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at the Bristol Nursing Home. There are no known survivors.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at 4 p.m. in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. There will be no viewing or visitation.

CAPE CORAL, Fla. - Eileen O'Dell, 84, of 4429 S.E. 10th Ave., died Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, in Fort Myers, Fla. Arrangements are incomplete. Weaver Funeral Home will be in charge of the arrangements.

Gilbert Roten
COUNCIL, Va. - Funeral services for Rev. Gilbert Dean Roten will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Guy Harris, Rev. Clarence Yates and Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Helton Cemetery on Stinsons Ridge.
Pallbearers will be Harvey Thomas, Derrick James, Jerry James, David Owens, Burton Wilson, Bob Deel and James Bower.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rev. Howard Reynolds, Rev. Jason Reynolds, Rev. Donald Harris, Rev. Billy Hess, Elmer Ball, Harold Harrison, Harold Lambert, Dallas James and Paul Harris.
Rev. Roten, 68, passed away Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in a Grundy hospital.

Clyde Trivett
KONNAROCK, Va. - Callie Clyde Trivett, 93, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 22, 2002, at her residence. She was born in Ashe County, N.C., and had lived in Konnarock most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Jack and Elizabeth Miller and was the widow of Lillard Trivett. She was a member of the Azen Baptist Church and the Damascus Senior Citizens. Mrs. Trivett was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Linda K. Trivett and Patty Trivett; and a sister, Carrie Stringer. She was a very loving mother and a special loving grandmother.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Farmer and her husband, Henry of Ypsilanti, Mich., and Barbara Trivett of Konnarock; six sons, Gene Trivett and Ted Trivett, both of Konnarock, Bill Trivett and his wife, Judy, Gerald Trivett and his wife, Louise, and Darrell Trivett and his wife, Juanita, all of Damascus, and John Trivett and his wife, Diane, of Whitetop, Va.; one sister, Mary Prince Blevins of Konnarock; her special grandchildren, Karen Dull, Jeffrey Farmer, Susan Underwood, Sherry Smith, Kathy Burns, Rhonda Lowe, Tammy McBride, Remona Denton, Sharon Price, Rita Lewis, Julie Trivett, Sheila Richardson, Shawn Trivett, Stephanie Trivett, Darrenn Trivett, Jennie Patrick, Robert Raines, Kerry Raines and Debbie Sexton; 32 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at the Azen Baptist Church with Pastors Greg Arnold, Robert Griffin and Jim Lundy officiating. Burial will follow in the Azen Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Junior Smith, Ronald Burns, Craig Trivett, Larry Church, Jeff Patrick and Robert Raines. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Blevins, Kerry Raines and Jeff Farmer. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Azen Baptist Church in Konnarock. Cecil S. Vermillion
ABINGDON - The funeral service for Mr. Cecil Stanley Vermillion will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2002, at 2 p.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Elden Bergen and Rev. Robert Buckles officiating. Pallbearers are Warren McCray, Joseph Johnson, John Dellis, Earl Canipe and Mike Bales. Honorary pallbearer is Jack Sykes.
Interment will follow in Shelby Hills Cemetery, Bristol Tennessee, with military honors to be conducted by the Honor Guard of Patton-Crosswhite V.F.W. Post 6975.
Mr. Vermillion, 86, died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.

Dewey Anderson Sr.
ABINGDON - Mr. Dewey Edward Anderson Sr., 87, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Dewey was a son of the late Oscar Anderson and Liza Jane Lane Anderson, and was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was a member of Trigg Street Church of God and was a retired construction worker and farmer. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosie Anderson; a son, Lewis Anderson; a daughter, Violet Sue Anderson; and his sisters, Elmar, Onie and Melissa.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Anderson; four sons, Bill Anderson of Abingdon, Bobby Anderson of Maryland, Junior Anderson of Atlanta and Charles Anderson of Salem, Va.; three daughters, Dorothy Blevins of Johnson City and Jaunita Cox and Betty Woods, both of Bristol Tennessee; a brother, John Anderson of Bristol Virginia; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, in Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor James Beaver and Pastor Larry Bales officiating. Interment will follow in Knollkreg Memorial Park. Casketbearers will be Bill Anderson, Junior Anderson, Jonathan Reynolds, Robert Anderson, Richard Cox and John Ray Cox. The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Billy S. Barton Sr.
CLEVELAND, Va. - Mr. Billy Steward Barton Sr., 45, of the Ivy Ridge section died Thrusday, Oct. 3, 2002, in a Fredericksburg, Va., hospital. Born March 31, 1957, he was a son of Thurman Steward and Billie Combs Barton of Cleveland. He was of the Baptist faith and was a lifelong resident of Russell County. He was a disabled coal miner.
In additon to his parents, survivors include three sons, Billy Steward Barton Jr. and wife, Melissa, of Lebanon, John Morgan Barton and wife, Kathy, of Honaker and Randall Eugene Stevens and wife, Rachel, of Council; three sisters, Linda Jean Rasnake and husband, Lonnie, of Cleveland, Kathy Sue Fields and husband, Hubert, of Castlewood, Mary Louise Salyer and husband, Michael, of Bristol Virginia; two brothers, Roger Kenneth Barton and wife, Connie, and Stanley Thurman Barton, all of Cleveland; five grandchildren, Isabella Barton, Skyler Barton, Lyndsay Stevens, Cheyenne Barton and Whitney Barton; special friend, Debbie Crabtree; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Don Sullivan and Rev. Roy Lee Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in =Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Friends may call at Honaker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Saturday evening.

Mack Blackwell Jr.
ABINGDON - Mr. Mack Jefferson Blackwell Jr., 72, passed away at Johnston Memorial Hospital on Friday, Oct. 4, 2002. He was a native of Saltville and was a son of the late Mack Jefferson Blackwell Sr.
Mack was a 1951 graduate of Virginia Military Institute with a B.S. degree in civil engineering. He was a four-year U.S. Air Force veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was an engineer and advertising consultant for Olin Chemical Corp., Thompson and Litton Associates, S & S Corp. and Ingersoll Rand. He was the owner of Blackwell & Associates, which he opened in 1993.
He was a lover of music, having played the trumpet since age 14 and with several bands during the "Big Band Era." He directed the choir at Madam Russell United Methodist Church in Saltville for 15 years and sang in and directed choirs at Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church and Abingdon United Methodist Church, of which he was a member.
Mack had served on the administrative board of Johnston Memorial Hospital for 20 years, serving as president for a number of years. He was a member of the Emory & Henry Board of Visitors, a member of the board of the Washington County Industrial Development Authority and a member and past-president of the Virginia Highlands Society.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Patricia Preston Blackwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Becky Blackwell of Abingdon; a daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Dave Williamson of Roanoke; his mother, Bess Blackwell of Saltville; a sister, Dorothy Thompson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one nephew; and two nieces.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2002, in Abingdon United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Rowland and Rev. Betty Reiff officiating. A reception for family and friends will be held in the fellowship hall immediately after the service.The committal and entombment service will be private. In place of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the Memorial Fund of Abingdon United Methodist Church, 101 E. Main St., Abingdon,VA 24210 or to the American Cancer Society, 18129 North Fork River Road, Abingdon, VA 24210. Deborah Joan Cobb, 41, of 1404 Texas Ave., Bristol Virginia, passed peacefully from this life after a lengthy illness Friday, Oct. 4, 2002.

John Edward Deel
Funeral services for John Edward Deel will be officiated by Rev. Bob Lowry and Rev. Ira Howard at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, 2002, at the funeral home. Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church Choir will provide special music. Military graveside services by VFW 3382 Charles DeWitt Byrd Post will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Tommy Pleasant and Jeremey Boggs; nephews Ronnie Parker and Jeff Deel; and also Matt Sledgeski and Gary Musselman.
Memorials may be made to Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church.
Mr. Deel, 70, passed away very unexpectedly Tuesday evening, Oct. 1, of an apparent heart attack.

Alice M. Fields
Mrs. Alice M. Fields, 66, died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.

John D. Hanner
John David Hanner, 90, of Bristol Virginia died Wednesday at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Thomas and Hattie Hanner. Surviviors include his wife of 67 years, Evelyn M. Hanner; one daughter and son-in-law, Eleanor and Ron Vail; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at MountainView Cemetery with Pastor Jack Stevens officiating.

Virginia M. Jordan
COEBURN - Virginia McCray Jordan, 86, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, in Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Sturgill Funeral Homes, Coeburn.

Wiley Latham
Wiley Latham, 66, of Bristol Virginia died Friday, Oct. 4, 2002, at home. He was a lifelong resident of Bristol and was a former employee of Vance P. Graham Oil Co.
Survivors include his mother, Bessie Kate Lowe Latham of Bristol Virginia; three sisters, Jane Ellen Wolfe of Johnson City, Fran Hagy of Abingdon and Betty Fuller of Bristol Virginia; two brothers, Jack Allen Latham and George Thomas Latham, both of Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wiley T. Latham; and a brother, John Latham.
The funeral service will be conducted at 7 o'clock Saturday evening in the chapel of Blevins Funeral Home. The family wil receive friends immediately following the service. The committal service and interment will be at 3 o'clock Sunday afternoon in High Point Cemetery.

Evelyn H. Marrs
BIG STONE GAP - Evelyn Hathaway Marrs, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 3, 2002, in Big Stone Gap.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Walter C. Marrs; her brother, Glenn H. Hathaway Jr.; and her parents, Glenn H. "Happy" Hathaway and Irene Hatcher Hathaway.
She is survived by her son, Bob Marrs and wife, Sharon, of Bethel Park, Pa.; her daughter, Ann Marrs of Big Stone Gap; one sister, Nelle Hathaway Thomas and husband, Wally, of Knoxville; niece, Barbara Thomas of Knoxville; two nephews, Bob Thomas and, Kim, of Valley Glen, Calif., and Jerry Thomas and wif,e Beth, of Powell, Tenn.; special niece, Anne Nickels of Big Stone Gap; numerous other nieces and nephews; and many beloved friends.
Evelyn was a graduate of Appalachia High School, where she was a cheerleader. She received her B.S. degree from Madison State Teacher's College (now known as James Madison University) in 1939. She taught private kindergarten classes in Big Stone Gap for several years before becoming a teacher in the Wise County Public Schools. She taught at East Stone Gap Elementary School and at Carnes Middle School until she retired from teaching in 1978.
She was an avid bowler at Shug's Lanes for a number of years and also enjoyed playing golf and bridge while her health allowed.
Evelyn was a longtime member of the Auxiliary of Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital, where she served as president and as patient representative. While a member of the auxiliary, she was instrumental in bringing the lifeline system to the Big Stone Gap area.
She was a member of the original cast of "The Trail of the Lonesome Pine" Outdoor Drama, where she also acted as costumer. She was a charter member of the Blue Fox Guild at the John Fox Jr. Museum, where she volunteered as tour guide and "the best cornbread cook around".
Evelyn was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She was a former secretary of the Memorial Committee and former church historian. She was also a Sunday school teacher and secretary for the Kelly Class.
She was a former member of the Dogwood Garden Club, a past secretary of Lonesome Pine Country Club and a member of Big Stone Gap Chapter 157, Order of the Eastern Star.
She and her husband, Walter, were active in the Powell Valley Shrine Club and the Kazim Shrine Temple and were invited to serve as Aides to the Potentate at one time.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, 2002, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap with the Rev. Ronnie Mutter officiating. Friends are invited to gather in the fellowship hall following the service to celebrate Evelyn's life.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church Food Bank or Hearing Impaired Fund, c/o Trinity United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 217, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219.

Harry L. McCray
Harry Lee McCray, 45, of 205 Dartmouth Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct 2, 2002, at HolstonValley Medical Center in Kingsport. He was born in Bristol Tennessee, to Sylvia J. McNew McCray and the late Harrison J. McCray, and was a contractor.
Survivors include two sons, Eric Lee McCray and Adam Joshua McCray; his mother, Sylvia J. McCray; a sister, Angela Sneed; a brother, Darrell McCray; a grandchild, Josie McCray; a niece, Katrina Wilson; two nephews, Bryan McCray and Curtis Sneed; and a great-nephew, Gauge McCray.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 o'clock Saturday evening, Oct. 5, 2002, in the Chapel of Oakley-Cook Funeral Home with Rev. Dennis Burnette officiatng. The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:45 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The committal service and burial will be at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in Eastern Heights Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eddie Booker, Johnny Oliver, Bryan McCray, Jeff McCray, Justin King, Curtis Sneed, Dempsey Messer and Brad Cole. Arrangements especially for Mr. McCray have been made through Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.
