Mr. Bellamy of Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Jerry C. Church
Graveside services for Jerry C. Church will be held on Monday, May 20, at noon at the National Cemetery at Mountain Home, Tenn. VFW Post 6975 of Bristol, Tenn., will be providing the military honors.
Mr. Church, 55, died Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home.

Lamar Cox
VANSANT - Lamar Cox, 77, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2002, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport. Born in Mitchell County, N.C., July 18, 1925, the son of the late Millard Cox and Grace Washburn Cox, he was a U.S. Marine Corps World War II veteran in the First Marine Division 3rd Amphibians in the Pacific Theater.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Sonnie Cox.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Inez Shipman Cox of Vansant; one daughter, Mrs. Beverly Tiller and husband, Eddie, of Orange City, Fla.; one sister, Hilda Hollyfield of Little Switzerland, N.C.; three brothers, Clark Cox of Vansant, John Edd Cox of Dunn, N.C., and Reid Cox of Spartanburg, S.C.; three grandchildren, Brian Tiller, Patrick Tiller and Marcus Tiller. He is also survived by 10 nieces and four nephews.
He served on the Missions Committee at Grundy Baptist Church when a new church was birthed at Vansant, was a charter member of Vansant Baptist Church, where he served in numerous capacities including trustee, on the Missions Committee and was an active deacon. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the New Lebanon Baptist Association. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of Oak Hill Academy, Mouth of Wilson, Va.
He was a life-time member of American Legion John Ratliff Post 164 of Grundy. He was the retired owner and operator of Thimble Coal Co. and co-founder of First Bank and Trust of Lebanon, where he was a member of the Board of Directors.
A lover of traveling, he had driven two trips to Alaska. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunter having made 29 trips to Canada on hunting excursions. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Vansant Baptist Church at Vansant with Reverend Stan Parrish officiating.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, May 19, at 2 p.m. at Grassy Creek Baptist Church in Spruce Pine, N.C., where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will follow in Grassy Creek Cemetery at Spruce Pine.
Memorial donations may be made to Vansant Baptist Church, P.O. Box 649, Vansant, VA 24656.
Active pallbearers will be family and friends. Honorary pallbearers will be the directors of First Bank and Trust, deacons of Vansant Baptist Chruch and all those he hunted with.
The body will be taken to Vansant Baptist Church Friday evening where friends may call after 6 p.m. with services to be held at 7 p.m.
The family of Lamar Cox is being served by Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy.

Anna Y. Daggs
NORFOLK - Anna Yvonne Daggs, 58, died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at home.
Born in Bristol, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Mildred Cleo Daggs. She had lived in Norfolk since she was 18.
She attended Slater High School and played basketball for the Slater Wolverines.
She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church, where she served as church secretary.
Surviving are son, Steven Daggs of Salisbury, Md.; daughters Michelle Riddick of Virginia Beach and Angela Daggs and Regina Daggs, both of Norfolk; brothers Eddie Daggs of Hampton, Va., and John Daggs of Bristol, Va.; sisters Kathy Daggs of Bristol, Va., and Vera Henderson of Norfolk; 10 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Wednesday in Hampton.

MARION - Donald Ray Delp, 66, died Friday, May 17, 2002, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Survivors and funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Bradley's Funeral Home in Marion.

C. Donald Eller
Funeral service for C. Donald Eller will be conducted Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 2 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. David Shimault and Rev. Dennis Burnette officiating. Entombment will follow.
Mr. Eller, 59, of 11607 Goose Creek Road, Bristol, Va., went to be with the Lord Thrusday, May 16, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Dorothy S. Godsey
Dorothy Snyder Godsey, 82, of 1919 Anderson St., Bristol, Tenn., passed away Friday, May 17, 2002, at home.
She was a native of the Bristol area before moving to Pensacola, Fla., and then returning to the Bristol area in 1987. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Godsey was preceded in death by her husband, Jack D. Godsey Sr.
Survivors include her son Mack A. Godsey II of Bristol; son and daughter-in-law, Jack D. and Sally Godsey of Bristol, Tenn.; and four sisters, Marie Herndon, Claudine Booher, Pauline Godsey and Nancy Petersen, all of Bristol, Tenn. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Mike Godsey of Ocean Springs, Miss., and Angela Izaguirre of Minot, N.D.; four great-grandchildren, Justin Godsey, Jordan Godsey, Simon Izaguirre and Joshua Izaguirre; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Akard Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Lewis officiating. Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Mountain View Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be Cecil Mumpower, Ed Booher, Mack A. Godsey and Benny Herndon. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the Akard Funeral Home.

James E. Hankins
KNOXVILLE - Rev. James E. Hankins, 81, of Maryville, Tenn., died Tuesday, May 17, 2002, at Fort Sanders Regional Hospital. Rev. Hankins was a native of Greeneville, Tenn., and was a retired United Methodist minister of the Holston Conference. Jim was a former pastor of "the Little Parish Of The Hills", Dungannon, which included Dungannon, Fort Blackmore and Slant United Methodist Church from 1947-49 and Piney Flats parish, including Piney Flats, Edgefield, Enterprise, Elizabeth Chapel and St. Paul United Methodist churches, from 1949-53. St. Paul and Elizabeth Chapel erected new buildings during his pastorate.
He was the son of Gurney Smith and Oda Pearl Wilhoit Hankins, and brother of Joseph Gurney Hankins, a veteran of World War II.
Jim Hankins is survived by his wife of 56 years, Virginia Tompkins Hankins, formerly of Duffield, Va.; their children, Cary and Judi Hankins Davis of Athens, Tenn., and granddaughter, Molly Davis of Peterborough, N.H., Jim II and Margie Hankins and grandchildren Lyn Alison Martin, Joda, Erin and Jordon Hankins of Hightstown, N.J., and Janet Hankins Tidwell and grandchildren, Robin and Adam Butler of Knoxville.
Visitation is from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at First United Methodist Church of Maryville Monday, May 20, 2002, followed by a memorial celebration at 8 p.m. in the sanctuary. The family will also receive friends at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home in Greeneville on Tuesday morning from 19-11 a.m. with interment at Greene Lawn at 1 p.m.

Mildred B. Hendrix
Mildred Burton Hendrix, 80, of Woods Landing, Apartment 311, died Friday, May 17, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice House. Her husband Robert Ralph (Little Rev.) survives her along with her daughter, Karen Cordes; one brother, James H. Burton of Atlanta; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild also survive, along with many friends. Memorial service will be held 5 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in Damascus. E-mail condolences may be sent to the Hendrix family at www.castlefuenralhome.com. Ethel C. Hess
LEBANON --The funeral service for Ethel Compton Hess will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Virgil Musick and the Rev. Duane Musick officiating. Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Breeding, Daniel Musick, Michael Musick, Marty Schlichting and Freddie Garrett.
Mrs. Hess, 91, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, in Russell County Medical Center.

Ruby Mae Light
EAST STONE GAP - Ruby Mae Light, 81, passed away Friday, May 17, 2002, at home.
She was born in Derby, Va., the daughter of the late Levi and Lovena (Cress) Nappier. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Big Stone Gap.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Light Sr.; daughter, Mary Sue Byrd; and sister, Evelyn Belton.
Surviving are two sons, William D. Light and Herbert Light Jr., both of East Stone Gap; one sister, Ellen Light of Hiltons, Va.; four grandchildren, Jeffery Light, Stacy Light and Susann Gibson, all of East Stone Gap, and Jackie Poteet of Big Stone Gap; two great-grandchildren, Brittany and Madison; and several nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Holding Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bill Hughes officiating. Burial will follow in American Legion Cemetery. Holding Funeral Home is in charge.

Talmadge Overbay
ATKINS - Talmadge "Tom" Overbay, 74, died Friday, May 17, 2002, in Smyth County Community Hosopital. He was a member of First Church of God, Atkins. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Overbay loved to play his guitar and sing gospel music. He is survived by three daughters, Patty Jackson of Elkton, Md., Deborah Knight and Barbara Fuller, both of Kansas City, Mo.; three sons, Eddie Overbay and Dennis Overbay, both of Kansas City, and Jerry Overbay of Havre de Grace, Md.; two sisters,Viola Overbay of Atkins and Rachel Vipperman of Rural Retreat; one brother, Rubin Overbay of Kingsport; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 18, 2002, at 3:30 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel. Seaver-Brown Funeral Service is serving the Overbay family.

Hugh W. Powers II
Hugh Winfield Powers II of Bristol, Tenn., passed away Thursday, May 16, at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was associated with Mitchell Powers Hardware for over 42 years, then he founded Powers Industrial Hardware in 1983. Mr. Powers was a native and lifelong resident of Bristol, Tenn. Mr. Powers was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II, and a member of First Baptist Church.
He was the son of the late Edwin Reeder Powers and Gordon Rush Powers. He was preceded in death by one son, Edwin James Powers; one brother, Edwin Reeder Powers Jr.; and one sister, Ruth Addington Powers Davis.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Joelma Tush Powers; one daughter, Faith Sidney Powers of Bristol, Tenn.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Hugh Winfield Powers III and wife, Christine, Joel Scott Powers and wife, Catherine, and Mitchell Andrew Powers and wife, Cheryl, all of Bristol, Tenn., and David Phillip Powers and wife, Teresa, of Powell, Tenn.; one sister, Dorothy Powers Wright of Bristol, Va.; two brothers, David Alexander Powers of New York City and Benjamin Rush Powers of Bristol, Tenn. Also surviving are one sister-in-law, Louise Hayroth Powers of Richmond; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Glenwood Cemetery Mausoleum Chapel with Dr. David Stancil officiating. The interment will follow in Shelby Hills Cemetery with military funeral rites conducted by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 Honor Guard with Chaplin Harold France officiating. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Akard Funeral Home.

Emma B. Randall
RADFORD - Emma Bowlin Randall, 91, died Friday, May 17, 2002, in Wheatland Hills Retirement Center. She was born Oct. 29, 1910, in Hiltons (Scott County), Va. She was the widow of Rev. E.B. Randall who was a minister for 30 years in the Holston Conference of the United Methodist Church, serving churches in Virginia and Tennessee. Surviving are two sons, Eugene K. Randall of Radford and Emil Lewis Randall of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Linda Barker of Washington, D.C., six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2002, at Carter Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Terri Gregory officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2002, at Tuckaleechee United Methodist Church Cemetery in Townsend, Tenn., with Rev. Joe Green officiating. The family will receive friends from 3 until 4 p.m. Sunday at Carter Street United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation or to Carter Street United Methodist Church. DeVilbiss Funeral Home, Radford, is handling arrangements.

Estelle M. Sheppard
Estelle M. Sheppard died Friday, May 17, 2002, at Greystone Health Care Center in Blountville.
She was born in Saltville, a daughter of the late Samuel and Birdie Ball Barrett. She was retired from Piggly-Wiggly and was a charter member of Volunteer Baptist Church. Estelle was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Sheppard Campbell; her grandson, Sam Campbell and his wife, Cindy, of Princeton, W.Va.; two great-grandsons, Aaron Campbell and Christopher Campbell; two sisters, Genevieve Barrett of Georgia, and Viola Walker of Ohio. She was preceded in daeth by her husband, George "Shorty" Sheppard; two brothers; and four sisters.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Glenwood Cemetery with Rev. Keith Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Donald Barrett, Donnie Rutherford, Darrell Barrett, Gerald Parks, Richard Aroney and Albert Aroney. The family will receive friends from 6-8 o'clock Saturday evening at Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may send memorial contributions to Alzheimer's Association, 207 N. Boone St., Suite 1050, Johnson City, TN 37604.

Emory Lee Stallard
EXETER, Va. - Emory Lee Stallard, 72, passed away Friday, May 17, at Holston Valley Hospital, Kingsport. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia.

Charles E. Sword
ABINGDON - The funeral service for Charles Emmett Sword will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 18, 2002, in Farris Funeral Chapel with Rev. Willis Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain Valley Memorial Park in Big Rock. Casketbearers will be grandsons, nephews and brothers-in-law. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to West Main Freewill Baptist Church Building Fund, 1147 W. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210.
Mr. Sword, 75, died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at home.

HONAKER --Funeral services for Oma Tiller will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Clyde Lambert officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Joey Austin, Chuck Austin, Ronnie Tiller, Ronald Tiller, Chester Penley, Rick Breeding, Ronnie Wayne Tiller and Josh Tiller.
Mrs. Tiller, 70, passed away early Thursday morning, May 16, 2002, at home.

Frances Wells
BIG STONE GAP - Family of Frances Wells will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Holding Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap. Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Rick Spell and the Rev. David Knight officiating. Committal services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude's Childrens Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to East Stone Gap United Methodist Church, P.O. Mrs. Wells, 74, went to be with the Lord Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Wellmont-Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
