DANTE - Funeral services for Fannie Fletcher will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Rose officiating. Burial will be in the Caney Fork Church Cemetery, Ramsy Ridge section of McClure, Va.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
Mrs. Fletcher, 80, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at Brian Center Health and Rehab Center.

Jerry K. Fullen
A funeral service for Jerry Kenneth Fullen will be conducted Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Farris Funeral Chapel with Richard Gaminde, minister, officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be James Ling, Chris Reynolds, Junior Williamson, Ricky Tester, Doug Carrier and Jim Fogleman.
Mr. Fullen, 57, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2002, at the Grace Healthcare Center.

Daniel Clay Hay
BIRCHLEAF, Va. - Daniel Clay Hay, 67, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon. A native of West Virginia, he was a son of the late Italy P. and Theresa Ella Robinson Hay. He was last employed as a heavy equipment operator. He was of the Protestant faith. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Omri Ray.
Survivors include a brother, David Hay and wife Beverly, Birchleaf; two nephews, Robert O. and wife Anita Hay, Huntington, W.Va., and Warren M. and wife Katrina Hay, LaMesa, Calif.; three aunts, Garnette Compton, Grundy, Estelle (Peg) Owens and Vivian Kiser, both of Haysi; three stepbrothers, Wayne and wife Barbara Ray, Lancaster, Ky., Farley and wife Maryann Hay, Hazel Park, Mich., and Doran and wife Donna Ray, Oak Park, Mich.; one stepsister, Glena Ray Patton, Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Roger Fuller and Ronnie Rose officiating. Burial will be at the Robinson Cemetery, Laurel Branch, Va., at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to help with expenses.

Billy R. Holbrook
CLINTWOOD - Funeral services for Billy R. Holbrook will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at the Peuther Chapel Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Joe Glenn Sluss officiating. Burial will follow in the Peuther Chapel Church Cemetery where military service will be conducted by the VFW Post 8979, DAV Chapter 35 and American Legion Post 227. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Mr. Holbrook, 56, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at his home.

Eugene B. Jewell
WHITEWOOD, Va. - Funeral services for Mr. Eugene B. Jewell will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands with Rev. Earl Cole officiating. Interment will follow in the family cemetery on White Mountain. Pallbearers will be nephews and men of the Shelter Baptist Church.
Mr. Jewell, 80, departed this life Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at a Lebanon hospital following a lengthy illness.

Lois C. Laforce
LEBANON - The funeral service for Lois Chafin Laforce will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Turner and the Rev. Leonard Ferguson officiating. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in the Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Those attending should meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. to go to the cemetery in procession. Pallbearers will be Don Chafin, Dean Chafin, Rick Hackney, Mark Hackney, Jim Fields, Roger Meade and Woody Hackney. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Guy Tillinghast, Jeff Owen, Dr. Hughes Melton and Elmer Saddler. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and at the home of Woody and Myrtle Hackney in Carbo at other times.
Mrs. Laforce, 68, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in the Grace Health Care Center in Abingdon after a long battle with cancer.

Ann P. Lambert
PINEY FLATS - Ann Powell Lambert, 67, 491 Lake Point Drive, died on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at her residence after an extended illness. A native of Durham, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Leon and Rosa Thomas Powell. She received her bachelor of arts in Spanish from the University of North Carolina where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. In 1957, she moved to France and taught English for one year. She returned to the United States and taught Spanish in Richmond and Virginia Beach, Va. After working with IBM in Norfolk, Va., Mrs. Lambert became a program director for the American Red Cross. She worked in the Washington, D.C. and Valley Forge, Pa., offices before doing a tour of duty for the Red Cross aboard USS Repose, a hospital ship, during Vietnam. She received her master of science in speech therapy from Ohio State University. After leaving Ohio State, Mrs. Lambert taught at Shaw University in Raleigh, N.C. She married A.J. Lambert on June 24, 1969. She moved to Bristol in 1975 and had lived in Piney Flats for five years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Episcopal church. Ms. Lambert enjoyed literature, art, traveling and playing bridge.
Survivors include her husband, A.J. Lambert of Piney Flats; a son, Christopher J. Lambert of Atlanta; a brother, Leon Powell of Stuart, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2002, in the nave of St. John's Episcopal Church in Johnson City with The Reverend Frank M. Cooper IV officiating. The inurnment committal service will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 2 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church and at the residence, 491 Lake Point Drive, Piney Flats, following the committal service.

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The funeral service for Ms. Kathryn Steele Lester will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, in the Maple Grove Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stephen Talbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Casketbearers will be David Wilson, Wilburn Necessary, John Bowers Jr., Kevin Lester, Scottie Lane and Jared Lester. Virginia Irene McAmis
MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Virginia Irene McAmis, 81, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in a Murfreesboro hospital. Born to the late Clarence and Amanda Lucinda Adams in Dorchester, Va., near Norton, she was the widow of Fred McAmis. She was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are son, Jim McAmis Sr., Murfreesboro; grandson, Jim McAmis Jr., Sanford, Fla.; brothers, Jesse (Bud) Adams, Powell Valley, Va., and Don Adams, Norton; and sisters, Billie Spears, Norton, Sue Yarhouse, Richmond, Louise Snodgrass, Wise and Mary Doris Adams, Norton.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in the Laurel Grove Cemetery in Norton. The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hagy & Fawbush Funeral Home in Norton.

Dolly Dema McCloud
POUNDING MILL, Va. - Mrs. Dolly Dema McCloud, 75, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, at her residence. Born on May 8, 1927, in Logan, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Gib and Rosa Mae Ray Damron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers; and two sisters. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family in her generation.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, George Ratliff McCloud; one son, Ira Thomas McCloud of Pounding Mill; one daughter, Doris Mae Damron of Richlands; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, in the Singleton Funeral Chapel in Cedar Bluff with Rev. Phillip Horton officiating. Burial will follow in the Russell Memorial Cemetery at Lebanon. Pallbearers will be family. The family will receive friends at Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday.

Mary Nutter
GLADE SPRING - Mrs. Mary "Exie" Nutter, 94, died at her home Monday, Dec. 16, 2002. She was a very giving and loving mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Nutter; and one son, Richard Van Nutter. She was a member of Byars Cobb United Methodist Church and a former member of Plasterco United Methodist Church.
Survivors: two sons and daughters-in-law, Malcolm E. and Lois Nutter, Cleveland, Tenn., and Harold "Jim" and Mildred Nutter, Woodlawn, Va.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janet "Polly" and Jack
DeBord, Abingdon and Mary N. and David McFarlane, Meadowview; one daughter-in-law, Zelda Nutter, Saltville; one sister, Lula Wilson, Pembrook, Va.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2002, at Henderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. James Denton and Rev. Darrell Ray officiating. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning at Mount Rose Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ricky Nutter, Mickey Nutter, Dicky Nutter, Jeff Nutter, Dennis DeBord and Bill McFarlane. Theodore R. Osborne
RICHLANDS - Mr. Theodore Roosevelt Osborne, 102, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in a Richlands hospital. Born Feb. 29, 1900, in Buchanan County, Va., he was the son of the late Mathias and Sarah Elizabeth Osborne. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Becky Jane Burke; his second wife, Ida Mae Shelton; and his third wife, Bell Chambers Lowe Osborne; his son, Clyde Osborne; brothers, Esau Osborne and Walter Osborne; and sisters, Bertha Osborne Davis, Edie Osborne, Molly Osborne, Becky Osborne, Mary Steele and Rosie Davis.
Mr. Osborne lived on Big Creek Road in Richlands for over three years with his nephew, James Earnest Davis and wife Eva Gay Cantrell Davis, whom he called his children because he raised James after James' mother died. They have two sons, Robert Lee Davis and wife Early Dawn Davis and Jerry Matthew Davis and wife Nita, whom he called his grandkids. James has four grandkids that he called his great-grandkids who kept him going for the past three years, Justin Lee Davis, James Mathias Davis, Kevin Lee Davis and Tishia Lynn Davis. Mr. Osborne was of the Holiness faith.
He is survived by one brother, Noah Osborne of Doran, Va.; and nine nieces and 11 nephews also survive.
Thank you to a very special friend and doctor, Dr. Ernest Moore, whom he thought the world of. We would like to thank the Independent Home Health and Community Home Care for their help.
A big thank you to his home care giver, JoAnn Mounts of Grundy and Pat Rife of Richlands. Also, a big thank you to Tammy Wright his home nurse of Osborne Mountain. She was his friend, family and a special lady whom he loved very much.
A big thanks to his niece, Monnie Coker of Tazewell, Va., for all the help she has given for three years.

Eva June Street
BEE, Va. - Mrs. Eva June Street, 68, wife of Dr. Tommy H. Street, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2002, in a Richlands hospital. Born July 31, 1934, in Greene County, Tenn., she was a daughter of the late Audrey McAmis Vaughn. She had lived in the Buchanan County area for the past 47 years and was a member of the First Methodist Church of Greeneville. She was formerly a teacher in the Council and Haysi school systems.
In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one son, Robert Marion Street.
Survivors include her husband, Dr. Tommy H. Street of the home; three daughters, Karen Tiller of Bee, Barbara Spangler and her husband, Daniel of Bee and Audrey Rasnake and her husband, Kenneth of Bee; one son, Gary Street of Manassas, Va.; one sister, Geraldine Vaughn Kennedy and her husband, Robert of Zebulon, N.C.; six grandchildren, Shaun Tiller, Todd Tiller, Whitney Tiller, Julia Spangler, Nathan Rasnake and Bradley Spangler also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, with Rev. Andrew Presley and Rev. Russell Street officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Rasnake, Daniel Spangler, Todd Tiller, Shaun Tiller, Jason Edwards, Ralph Street, William Shoemaker Jr. and Arnold Presley.

James D. Thacker
HAYSI - James Darrell Thacker, 30, passed away at his residence Monday, Dec. 16, 2002. A native of Haysi, he was a son of the late James D. and Charlotte Counts Thacker. He was last employed with RAT Contractors, Oakwood, Va. He was of the Freewill Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Marie Thacker; and maternal grandparents, Lawrence "Cat" and Pauline Counts.
Survivors include his fiancee, Matilda "Janie" Lester, Haysi; three daughters, Stephanie Edwards, Kimberly Thacker and Carley Thacker; three sons, Timothy Horton, Taylor Horton and Joshua Thacker; two stepsons, Zack and Dylan Lester; four sisters, Jennifer and husband Rodney Sperow, Star Smith and Becky Viers, all of Haysi, and Jill Stanley, North Carolina; three nieces, Brittney, Ashley and Christy Sperow, Haysi.
Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2002, at Haysi Funeral Home with Leon Sykes officiating. Burial will follow in the Wallace-Breedlove Cemetery, Haysi. Arnold Lee Worley
Arnold Lee "Pete" Worley, 91, of 122 Wampler Road, Bristol, Tenn., passed away on Monday, Dec. 16, 2002, at Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late George and Lauria Bowman Worley and was retired from Outdoor West. He was a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include daughter, Ruby Martin of Abingdon; sister, Clara Jackson of Bristol Tennessee; brothers, Bob Worley of Bristol Tennessee and Joe Worley of Bristol Virginia; grandchildren, Robin Kestner, Ricky Carmack and Rusty Carmack, all of Abingdon; five great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Forest Hills Memory Gardens with Rev. Jimmy Epperson officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Weaver Funeral Home.

Rev. James L. Addair
Reverend James Lundy Addair (Preacher Jim), 85, of 224 Ramey Road, Bristol, Tenn., formerly of Beartown, W.Va., went to meet his Savior Sunday, May 12, 2002, at his residence. Reverend Addair was born Jan. 28, 1917, to John H. and Nannie SmithAddair. He was a retired minister of the Church of the Living God and a retired coal miner. He had preached the precious word of God for more than 50 years and had pastored many churches in the area. He was known for his love and devotion to God and won many souls for the kingdom in his ministry. He attended Shelby Street Church of God. His daughter, Lori Cross-Hobson and husband Terry survive him, along with three sons and daughters-in-law, James Stanley and Gin Addair, North Tazewell, Va., John Stephen and Patsy Addair of Bradshaw, W.Va., and Carl Thomas and Judy Addair of Bristol, Tenn. Brother, Oliver (Dobb) Addair of Iaeger, W.Va., also survives. Thirteen grandchildren, Jay Addair, Shonna Addair Whittaker, Stephen Addair, Jeanna Addair Cook, Bobby Addair, Tommy Addair, Jamie Addair, Annie Addair Lester, Tina Cross Greer, Dustin Cross, Larry Duncan Jr., Chase Hobson and Carmen Hobson Roberts also survive. He also had 17 great-grandchildren surviving him. Preacher Jim was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Tom, Ed and Ernie Addair; four sisters, Audrey Addair Porter, Hattie Addair Lowe, Kathern Addair Varady and Janet Addair Riffe; and two grandsons, Tony Addair and Billy Joe Cross. The family will receive friends from 6 till 8 Tuesday evening, May 14, 2002, at Castle Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held after visitation. The body will be taken to his home church in Garland, W.Va., on Wednesday, May 25, 2002, and the funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday there with burial to be inViers Cemetery in Bradshaw. Elizabeth B. Beidleman
SULLIVAN COUNTY, Tenn. – Funeral services for Marion Elizabeth Booher Beidleman will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Andrew Spence officiating. Mrs. Beidleman, 90, a longtime resident of the Emmett Community, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, in Wellmont Hospice House.

Wallace Ralph Carter
BIG STONE GAP, Va. – Wallace Ralph Carter, 83, went to be with the Lord May 12, 2002, in Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Big Stone Gap. He was a life resident of the area and a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Big Stone Gap.
He was a member of the Stonega Veterans Associaton and a retired employee of Westmoreland Coal Co. with 45 years of service. For the last several years, Mr. Carter was a familiar face at the Bullitt Park track in Big Stone Gap where he spent many mornings walking his beloved dog, Cindy.
Surviving are daughters, Sue Carter Horner and husband Jim, Gray, Tenn., and Sharon Carter Marrs and husband Bob, Pittsburgh, Pa.; grandson, John Scott Fischer, Spring, Texas; brothers, Conrad Carter and wife Thelma, Big Stone Gap and Doug Carter, Chicago; sisters-in-law, Ann Stout Gibson and husband Don, Big Stone Gap, Della James Stout Cress and husband Arthur, Kingsport, and Pauline Carter of Chicago (the widow of his late brother Harold Carter); nieces and nephews, Don Gibson and wife Peggy, Big Stone Gap, David Cress and wife Patsy, Winchester, Va., Elizabeth Carter Cooper and husband Ken, Kingsport, John Carter, Los Angeles, Conrad Carter Jr. and wife Linda, Albemarle, N.C., Tamara Carter, Steven Carter, Michael Carter, Carolyn Carter Charz and Larry Carter, all of Chicago; and special friend and neighbor, Wilma Brooks.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Stout Carter; parents, Bert and Clara Carter; and sister-in-law, Azlene Stout.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. May 15, 2002, in Trinity United Methodist Church with Rev. Ronnie Mutter officiating. Friends are invited to gather in the fellowship hall immediately following the funeral service. Graveside services will follow at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens after the reception in the church fellowship hall.

A graveside memorial service for Mrs. Frances Mae Counts will be conducted Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Family and friends are asked to assemble at the cemetery Tuesday for the service.

Garland E. Duncan
CASTLEWOOD – Funeral services for Garland E. Duncan will be conducted in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel, Castlewood, on Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ted Phillips and Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating. Interment will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood with military rites conducted by Highlands Fellowship Veterans Honor Guard and Color Guard. Pallbearers will be Joshua Martin, Keith Pruitt, Travis Milgrim, Billy Castle, Buddy Burns, Mike Campbell and Jeff Maxfield.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 14, 2002, from 6 until 9 p.m. at Castlewood Funeral Home, Castlewood. Condolences may be sent to the Duncan family via e-mail castlewood@funeral-plans.com.
Mr. Duncan, 75, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at home.

ABINGDON – Mr. Garnett Odell Duncan, 84, died Monday, May 13, 2002, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. Arrangements are incomplete at this time and will be announced by Farris Funeral Service.

Darrell D. Gobble, 44, of Bristol, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Monday, May 13, 2002.

Elsalee B. Grindstaff
DAMASCUS – Elsalee B. Grindstaff died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Bristol Nusing Home, Bristol, Va. She was born in Telford, Tenn., a daughter of the late Fred and Tennie Brobeck, and has lived in Damascus most of her life. She was retired from the Virginia Department of Education as an area nutritionist for the Virginia School Lunch Program, serving over 200 schools in Southwest Virginia. She was previously employed as a home demonstration agent in East Tennessee, taught home economics at Damascus and Holston High Schools in Damascus and was nutritionist for the local lunch program in the Washington County Virginia schools. She received a B.S. degree from East Tennessee State University School of Home Economics and her M.S. degree from Virginia Tech in nutrition. She was past matron of the Abingdon Chapter 182 Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the Damascus United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, G. Paschal Grindstaff; five nieces; and two nephews.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2002, in the Damascus United Methodist Church with Rev. Helen Phillips and Dr. Wayne Cummings officiating. The entombment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the Damacus United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 358, Damascus,VA 24236, or to the Parkinson Foundation, P.O. Box 02-5163, Miami, FL 33102-5163. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:45 p.m.Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral service. Condolences may be sent to the family via e-mail at garrett@funeral-plans.com. Garrett Funeral Home in Damascus is serving the family of Mrs. Grindstaff.

Lona D. Grubb
Funeral services for Lona Dell Price Grubb will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Campbell and Rev. Bobby Tester officiating. Burial will follow in Rooty Branch Cemetery. Pallbearers: John Webb, Kenny Webb, David Grubb, Richard Hooker, Billy Ringley and Chad Garrett. CEDAR BLUFF – Funeral services for Beulah Frances Hoops will be conducted Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel of Tazewell with Rev. Monte Elswick and Rev. Max Linkous officiating. Interment will follow at Greenhills Memory Gardens, Claypool Hill. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Mrs. Hoops, 82, of Route 1 died Friday, May 10, 2002, at a Tazewell hospital following a lengthy illness.

Anna Mae Kaywood
PINEY FLATS – Anna Mae Kaywood, 71, of 623 Haw Ridge Road, died Saturday, May 11, 2002, at Lakebridge Health Care, Johnson City, following a lengthy illness. A native of Sullivan County, she was a daughter of the late Charles David and Mary Elizabeth Blalock Smith. She was a member of Pilgrims Baptist Church, Piney Flats. She was preceded in death by one sister; two brothers; one grandchild; and two great-grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Janie Tarlton, Jonesborough, Trula Mae Matherly, Piney Flats, and Dessie Elizabeth Reece, Blountville; three sons, Bobby Jack Kaywood, Edward Wayne Smith and Jerry Kaywood, all of Piney Flats; twin brother, Paul Smith, Piney Flats; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2002, from the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Millsaps officiating. Music will be under the direction of Mrs. Kathy Cross. The graveside and interment service will be conducted Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at 2 p.m. from Sanders Cemetery, Piney Flats. Those who wish to attend the graveside are requested to meet at the cemetery at 1:50 p.m. Active pallbearers will be selected from family and friends. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 14, 2002, from 6-8 p.m. in the chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City Chapel, or other times at the residence. Tetrick Funeral Home-Bluff City Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
