Grace Kidder Thompson
Grace Kidder Thompson, 99, of Newport died icon in Newport on August 5, 2005. Mrs. Thompson was born icon in East Enosburg on January 13, 1906, a daughter of Carl and Versa Wanzer Kidder. After graduating from Enosburg Falls High School, she moved to Derby, where she met Kenneth George Thompson. They were married icon in East Enosburg on September 9, 1929. He predeceased her on January 19, 1982. The Thompsons raised their family in Derby. They took great pride in their family and enjoyed the times they all spent together. She was a member of the United Church of Derby and an active member of the Women's Social Union and the Sunday school program. Her warm smile and loving ways will be forever remembered by those lives she touched. She was predeceased by her daughter Jean on September 6, 1962; by her brothers and sisters: James Kidder, Harold Kidder, Ralph Kidder, Genevieve Hall, and Ethelyn Kidder; and by her son-in-law Herbert Blair. Funeral services were held August 8 with the Reverend John Genco officiating. Interment followed at the Derby Center Cemetery. Patricia Joan 'Bunny' Hoffarth
Patricia Joan 'Bunny' Hoffarth, 66, of Derby died icon in Newport on Sunday, December 11, 2005. Mrs. Hoffarth was born icon in New York City on March 16, 1939, a daughter of Alexander and the late Mary (Pesce) Docos. She worked as a secretary for Joe Namath and as a ballroom dance instructor for the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in New York City. She was very generous to national and international Christian charities and animal societies. She was a great animal lover and devoted Christian and patriarch. She enjoyed spending time with her pets, dancing, driving, and visiting friends. She is survived by her father, Alexander Docos, of Yonkers, New York; by her brothers: George Docos of Yonkers, Steve Docos, his wife, Carla, and their son Jonathan of Derby, and Billy Docos; by her sisters Cindy Delbene and Vicky Simmonds; by her aunts: Helen Salvucci, Barbara Taylor, and Mary Kaplin; and by nine nieces and nephews, all of West Chester County, New York. She was predeceased by her sister Rosalie Mosca; and by her mother, Mary Docos. Fred R. Langlitz
Fred R. Langlitz, 74, of Belmont, New Hampshire, died icon suddenly in his beloved Island Pond on Friday, December 16, 2005. Mr. Langlitz was born icon to Louis and Marinna (Stone) Langlitz on December 12, 1931, in Unity, New Hampshire. He married icon his loving wife, Bura 'Sally' Johnson, in October 1956. He served in the U.S. Navy during Korea. At the time of his retirement he had been the owner of his own construction company. He was a member of American Legion Island Pond Post No. 80 and a life member of the Laconia, New Hampshire, Elks Lodge. They bought their winter camp in 1998, after having been coming to Island Pond for over 20 years, to be able to come to a place to enjoy snowmobiling. He loved to go fishing with his grandson Josh Messer. He was a quiet man who enjoyed life to the fullest and made many friends. He would not hesitate to give a helping hand when needed. He is survived by his wife, Sally; by his children: Fred Jr. and his wife, Regina, of Laconia, Mark and his companion, Tricia Giguere, of Guilford, New Hampshire, Bruce and his wife, Rebecca, of Gilmanton, New Hampshire, and Wendi Paquet and her husband, Brian, of Tilton, New Hampshire; by six grandchildren; by four great-grandchildren; by his brother William of Texas; by his sister Amy Smith and her husband, Richard, of Florida; and by several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and by his brothers John and Charles. A memorial service will be held at a later date in his hometown of Belmont. Rita Rowell Harrington
Rita Rowell Harrington, 72, of Glen Falls, New York, died icon suddenly December 9, 2005. Ms. Harrington was born icon June 6, 1933, in Derby, a daughter of Frances (Kelley) and Robert Rowell. She married icon Preston Harrington in July 1955. She attended the Hartford School for the Blind in Hartford, Connecticut, and was a member of the Free Methodist Church of Glen Falls. She enjoyed being around her family and many friends. She also very much enjoyed traveling. She is survived by her mother, Frances Rowell Boisvert, of Derby Green; by sisters Marilyn Taplin of Derby and Carolyn Judd and her husband, Arthur, of Morgan and Tucson, Arizona; and by nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Preston Harrington; by her father, Robert Rowell; by brothers-in-law Robert Taplin and Andrew Therrien; and by nephew David Taplin. There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in Glen Falls next spring at the convenience of the family.

Lucille B. Lague
Lucille B. Lague, 85, of Newport died icon Thursday, December 15, 2005, surrounded by her special Bel-Aire family. Mrs. Lague was born icon in Derby on January 28, 1920, the first child of Raymond E. and Julia Leavens Blake. She graduated from Derby Academy in 1938 and from Bay Path Business College in Longmeadow, Massachusetts. She began her career as a bookkeeper in 1940 working for her father at R.E. Blake, Incorporated, at Railroad Square in Newport. On April 15, 1943, she married icon Philip E. Lague. While raising her family, she continued working with their business, Phil's Oil Service. In 1970 they sold the family business, and she began working for Agway as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed overnight shopping trips with her daughter, especially during deer season while the men were in hunting camp. She enjoyed knitting items for family members, especially sweaters, mittens, socks, and baby sets. She loved feeding and watching the birds. She was a member of St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. In 1989 she became a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and volunteered at the Newport Chamber of Commerce information booth. She also enjoyed getting out every day and meeting friends for coffee at McDonald's. In May 2000 she moved to Bel-Aire Quality Care Nursing Center and enjoyed many daily activities including bingo, crossword puzzles, trivia, and coffee and conversation with Marie, Ruby, Frank, and many Bel-Aire residents. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Jones and her husband, Thomas, of Derby; by her brother Herbert Blake and his wife, Lorraine, of Derby; by sisters Hazel Fontaine and Mary Jean Pierce and her husband, Kenneth, of Newport; by her sisters-in-law: Mary Anne Blake of Newport, MarcelleGosselin of Newport, and Rita Keefe and her husband, Maurice, of Barre; by her brother-in-law Foster Coburn of Newport; by her uncle Reginald Leavens and wife, Doris, of Derby; by her godchildren: Albert Lague, Garry Coburn, and Lynn Graham; and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip; by her son Jon; by her daughter Jackie; by her parents; by her sister Marion Kerr; and by her brother Charles Blake. Funeral services were held at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel in Newport December 20 with the Reverend Yvon Royer officiating. Edith Kathleen Provoncha, 84, of Derby died icon in Newport on Monday, December 12, 2005. Mrs. Provoncha was born icon in Canada on January 9, 1921, a daughter of Walter and Lillian (Baker) Mosher. She worked for Northeast Kingdom Community Action for many years in many positions. She was a past member of Home Dem. She enjoyed knitting, much to the delight of family members, and doing puzzles; she usually had one going on the living room table. She is survived by her children: Victor Provoncha and his wife, Margaret, of Newport, Robert Provoncha and his wife, Carol, of Maine, Wendell Provoncha and his wife, Laura, of Newport Center, and Gail Howell of Florida; by her grandchildren: Barry, Holly, Robby, Lisa, Heather, Matthew, Timmy, Keith, Gina, and Randy; by her brothers Melvin Mosher of Ontario and Millard Mosher of Quebec; by her sister Claire Bullock of Ontario; by several great-grandchildren; and by several nieces and nephews. William Taylor Bullis
William Taylor Bullis, 68, of Newport died icon suddenly January 20, 2006, in Newport. Mr. Bullis was born icon August 28, 1937, in Orange, New Jersey, a son of Percy and Mildred (English) Bullis. On November 18, 1961, he married icon Gloria Simino, who predeceased him on September 15, 2005. He entered the United States Air Force and served his country during the Korean War. He was proprietor of Bullis Tax Service and was a tax preparer for many years in the community. He enjoyed collecting coins, stamps, trains, and leather products. He is survived by his children: Rose Brousseau and her husband, Robert, of Newport, Cindy Choquette and her husband, Robert, of Virginia, and Randy Bullis and his wife, Annie, of Dunbarton, New Hampshire; by three grandchildren: Nicole Bullis, Bobby Peters, and Tony Brousseau; by a great-granddaughter, AshlynVanKampen; by sisters and brothers: John 'Jack' Bullis and his wife, Bev, of Derby Line, James Bullis of Pennsylvania, Joseph Bullis and his wife, Marlene, of Troy, New Hampshire, Daniel Bullis and his wife, Sharon, of Newport, CraigBullis and his wife, Diana, of Newport, Dianne Bullis of Newport, Judy Bullis of Rutland, Paula Marie Brochu and her husband, Steve, of Derby Line, and Mary Lou George and her husband, Wendall, of Derby; and by several nieces and nephews. Dorothy Eva Ducharme
Dorothy Ducharme, left, with her aunt Dora Kinney. Dorothy Eva Ducharme, 89, died icon quietly on Friday evening, January 13, 2006, at her home in Castleton surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Ducharme was born icon September 22, 1916, in Newport, the eldest of three daughters of the late Henry and Lucinda (Kinney) Noe. As she was the oldest child growing up during the Depression, she was the only one to graduate from high school. She attended schools in Newport and Eden and Colebrook, New Hampshire, and then graduated from Orleans High School in 1935. Her first job was as a secretary with the Dickens-Kipp Insurance Agency. After this she was a secretary at Orleans High School. She married icon Cecil Ducharme in Newfane on June 26, 1939, and they made their first home in Providence, Rhode Island. While there, she took employment as a secretary at the London-Guarntie Accident Insurance Company. The couple moved to Brattleboro, and she worked for the Holstein Fresian Company until they moved to Springfield. Then, in 1952, the couple moved to Castleton with their two children, where they bought a farm on the East Hubbardton Road. While farming, the couple started the Player Piano Service in 1958. In 1966, they purchased the D&H Railroad Station in Castleton, operating it for the next 31 years before turning it over to their son Donald. Mr. Ducharme did the repair work, and Mrs. Ducharme did the bookkeeping and the sales work. During the time she was on the farm, she was very active with the Home Dem Club and was the hot lunch cook at the North Brittan School. After her retirement she volunteered her time at the Castleton Town Offices, where her daughter worked. She also enjoyed baking, playing bingo, growing flowers, and traveling to Orleans to visit her sisters and to reconnect with her roots. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ann Jakubowski and her husband, Val; by her son Donald Ducharme Sr. and his wife, Valerie; by five grandsons: Michael Jakubowski and his wife, Laura, William Jakubowski and his wife, Bridget, Donald Ducharme Jr. and his wife, Kara, Daniel Ducharme and his wife, Heather, and Walter Ducharme and his wife, Amy; by five great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter; by her sister Marjorie Burdick of Orleans; by five nephews; and by great-nieces, great nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Cecil, in 1989; by her sister Stella Coathup in 2003; by her niece Christine Messer in 1998; by her niece Patricia Rossier in 2001; and by her nephew the Reverend Bernard L. Rossier Jr. in 2004. Funeral services were held January 17 at the Ducharme Funeral Home (owned and operated by her grandson Walter) in Castleton. The Reverend Ashley Meade, pastor of the Dresden Baptist Church, and President Thomas Sawyer of the Rutland branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints concelebrated the service. In addition, words of remembrance were offered by her son Donald and her grandson Walter. Her daughter MaryAnn led the congregation in the Roman Catholic rosary. She will be laid to rest in the family lot in the spring in Hillside Cemetery icon in Castleton. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of one's choice. Ducharme Funeral Home and Sanderson Funeral Home in Middlebury were in charge of arrangements.

Don Carver Hilson
Don Carver Hilson, 59, of Newport died icon peacefully at his home on Monday, January 16, 2006, with his loving family by his side. Mr. Hilson served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. He touched many lives with his sense and his humor. He will be greatly missed. He leaves his wife, Joyce; daughters Monica (Hilson)Krautheim and her husband, Gerry, of New Mexico and Megan Hilson of New York City; son Shelby Hilson; and many friends in Newport. A celebration of his life was held January 23 at a Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Funeral Home in Newport. Full military honors followed the service at the funeral home. Elizabeth 'Betty' Merrill
Elizabeth 'Betty' Merrill, 86, of Craftsbury, died icon at her home on January 17, 2006. Mrs. Merrill was born icon June 18, 1919, in New York City, a daughter of Martin Wehncke and Evangelline (Cole) Wehncke. She attended Barnard College and was a graduate of Montclair State Teachers College in New Jersey. She taught in Richford and Northfield prior to her marriage on August 16, 1947, to Robert Merrill. She later taught in Orleans and Swanton. For over 25 years, she served as the secretary and treasurer of the Branch Cemetery icon Association. She volunteered for the Vermont Children's Aid Society and was a former member of the Searchlight Club. She enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. Her fondest recollections included train travel and working as a telephone switchboard operator in Craftsbury. She is survived by a brother, John Wehncke, of Chilmark, Massachusetts; by three daughters: Mary Ann of Craftsbury, Nancy of Burlington, Jane and David Linck of Craftsbury; and by two grandchildren, Jennifer and Robert Linck of Craftsbury. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert; and by a daughter, Martha Jenkins. A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Gaetan Coderre
Gaetan J. Coderre, 67, of Irasburg, beloved husband of Alice Coderre, died icon in Lebanon, New Hampshire, on Saturday January 21, 2006. Mr. Coderre was born icon on November 30, 1938, in North Troy, a son of Eddy and Fabiola (Vachon) Coderre. He married icon Alice Peters, who survives him, on March 26, 1960. He owned and operated the family farms for several years and also did carpentry work. He served in the Vermont National Guard for eight years. He and his wife enjoyed day trips, going to Florida, and visiting other states. Mr. Coderre loved four wheeling, playing cards, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather who totally enjoyed his grandchildren and was very involved with any member of the family and activities as they were growing up. He is survived by his wife, Alice, of Irasburg, his children, Sherman and Michelle Coderre of Errol, New Hampshire; Ed and Shirley Coderre of Irasburg, Tina Hall of Barton, Tealla and Roger Rodrigue of Derby, and Trina and Robert Burdick of St. Johnsbury, and by 12 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Marcel Coderre of Irasburg, Donald and Jeanette Coderre of Lowell, Eugene Coderre of Orleans, and Raymond and Tammy Coderre of Barton, and by his sisters, Jeanette Geraw of Orleans, Giselle and Robert Damon of Morgan, Cecile Arel of Newport, Estelle and Alfred Wheeler of Newport Center, and Desneiges and Chester Geraw of Glover, and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Tina Marie Fontaine
Tina Marie Fontaine, 29, of Albany Center died icon suddenly January 5, 2006. Ms. Fontaine leaves a much-beloved six-year-old daughter, Alexis LorinLoukes, whose father is Karl Loukes of Newport. Alexis has two half-sisters, Holly and Hannah. Ms. Fontaine had earned associate's and bachelor's degrees and worked as a substitute teacher at North Country Union High School. Her father, Alain Fontaine, and grandparents Phillip and Margaret Malshuk and Romeo and Irene Beaudry predeceased her. She leaves her mother, Sheila Farrell; stepfather, Phil Beaudry; brother Zach; sister Tara; grandmother Phyllis Gable; and her godparents, aunt AlineLaMadeleine and uncle Ronald LaMadeleine. Her many aunts and uncles include Peter Malshuk, Douglas and Bernadette Brace, Gerard and Helen Fontaine, Lionel and Laurette Fontaine, Ronald Fontaine, Mark and Diane Mudget, Real and Rose Fontaine, Marcel and Penny Fontaine, Peggy Fontaine, Noella Fontaine, Leo Beaudry, Rachel Illingsworth, Yvette Beaudry, and Doreen Beaudry; and many cousins. Her life was devoted to her daughter. She was in the process of making a new home on her own land. She loved animals and flowers and enjoyed swimming, dancing, playing video games, and bowling. Helen Susan King
On January 18, 2006, Helen Susan King, 82, died icon and went to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer. Mrs. King had been a resident of the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center since last June. She was born icon in North Troy on November 18, 1924, to Herbert and Laura Lee. On August 5, 1945, she married icon Elum King, who survives her and is also a resident of the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehab Center in St. Johnsbury. She leaves her only child, her daughter, Janice Gray, of North Concord; her loving son-in-law, Stuart Gray, of North Concord; three grandchildren: Joanne Wright of Lisbon, New Hampshire, Jeffrey Gray of Florida, and Kevin Gray of Concord and their spouses Christopher Wright Sr. and Katrina Gray; seven great-grandchildren: Chris Jr. and Aaron Wright of Lisbon and Brandon, Ryan, Gregory, Dylan, and Kaylee Elizabeth Gray; her sister Lucy Murphy and her husband, Douglas, of St. Johnsbury; her brother Orland Lee of St. Johnsbury; a very special person, Dorcas Lee, of St. Johnsbury; a very special sister-in-law, Frances Giroux, of Lancaster, New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and by her brothers: Walter, Donald, and Robert Lee. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in the spring in the family lot in Newport Center. She leaves many special people who brought sunshine into her life. Howard I. Gile
Howard I. Gile, 56, of Irasburg died icon peacefully at his home February 4, 2006. Mr. Gile was born icon in Barton on April 26, 1949, to Ernest and Agnes (Peters) Gile. He spent two years fighting for his country in Vietnam. He farmed all of his life in Barton and Irasburg. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being in the outdoors, building projects, playing horseshoes, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Geneva (Putvain)Gile; by his three children and their loving spouses: Dale and PhunGile of Irasburg, Craig Gile of Marshfield, and Karen and Kris Leach of Irasburg; by five grandsons: Dillon, Garrett, and Wyatt Gile and Braydon and Landyn Leach; by one sister, Jeanette Douglas, and her husband, Kenny, of Florida; and by many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles. An outdoor service celebrating Mr. Gile's life will be held Monday, February 13, at 1 p.m. outside the home he built and loved. The pastor of the Lake Region Parish will officiate. Hermeline V. Rondeau
Hermeline V. Rondeau, 90, of North Troy died icon in Newport on Wednesday, February 1, 2006. Mrs. Rondeau was born icon in Montreal, Quebec, on June 19, 1915, a daughter of Albert and Marie (Brodeur)Lanctot. She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church and the Ladies of St. Anne in North Troy. On October 9, 1961, she married icon Gerard Rondeau, who survives her. She is also survived by her brother GilleLanctot of Granby, Quebec; by her sisters: Reine-Jeanne Paquin of Farnham, Quebec, Rose AngePerrault of Newport Center, Carmen Sharman of North Carolina, Marie Lys of Boucherville, Quebec, and Gabrielle Guerin of Quebec; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers George Lanctot and Raymond Lanctot; and by her sisters Genevieve Touchette and Flore Beaulieu. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated February 4 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Reverend Jerome Mercure officiating. Barbara R. Young
Barbara R. Young, 82, of Coventry died icon in Newport on Saturday, January 28, 2006. Mrs. Young was born icon in Morristown Corners on July 21, 1923, a daughter of Carroll and Flora (Hadlock) Green. She loved her former job at Phelps Pharmacy. She also worked as a sales clerk at Woolworth's and Needleman's. She worked in the hot lunch program and as custodian at the Coventry Village School and was librarian at the Coventry library. She was treasurer and caretaker of the Coventry Cemetery icon and worked at the Congregational church, where she also sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. She was a life member and past grand matron of the state of the Order of the Eastern Star Newport Lakeside Chapter. She enjoyed gardening, plants, cooking and traveling. On August 29, 1941, she married icon Earl James Young, who predeceased her on September 10, 1984. She is survived by her daughter Carol Craft of Coventry; by her granddaughter Jennifer Lynn Craft of Derry, New Hampshire; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter Linda Vining in 2001; and by her brother Robert Green. Funeral services were held February 4 at the Curtis-Britch Converse-Rushford Memorial Chapel in Newport with the Reverend Anne Squires officiating. Spring interment will take place at the Coventry Cemetery icon at the convenience of the family. Chestina 'Tina' (Graveline) Hummers
Chestina 'Tina' (Graveline) Hummers, 94, died icon quietly the evening of February 2, 2006, in Newport. Mrs. Hummers was born icon ChestinaLamere on November 6, 1911. As a teenager she astonished everyone with her ski-jumping skills and won many prizes for this talent in competitive events throughout northern Vermont. Her two children still recall with fascination the sight in 1937 of her original ski jump adjoining Glen Road. As youngsters, they refused to believe their mother once sailed aloft from that impressive platform. After marriage she was a farmer's wife in Coventry until World War II, when she went to Connecticut to work in the cotton mills in Willimantic and as a sales clerk at I.J. Fox Clothing in Hartford, while her husband, Edgar, worked at Colt firearms. On the return to Vermont after the war, she finally became a full-time housewife and mother and an enthusiastic participant in community affairs with her many crafts and women's club activities. She had special skills in needle work of all kinds, even tatting,a skill all but gone in today's world. In later years she and her husband spent many Vermont winters in Florida and Arizona, always returning to their Vermont home. She was a good friend and mother and will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance. She held membership with St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church and the Daughters of Isabella. She is survived by her two sons, Duane Edgar Graveline and his wife, Suzanne, of Merritt Island, Florida, and Norman Edward Graveline and his wife, Simone, of Derby; by three grandsons: James, David, and Duane Graveline; by two great-grandchildren, Jamie and Jennifer; by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Lamere, of Derby; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by two husbands, Edgar Graveline and Fred Hummers; and by four siblings: Frank, Edna, Erbert, and Walter, all of the Newport area. Funeral services were held February 6 at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Newport with the Reverend Yvon Royer celebrating a Mass of Christian Burial. Nathan George 'Nate' Spaulding
Nathan George 'Nate' Spaulding, 40, of East Hardwick died icon unexpectedly Friday, January 27, 2006, at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville. Mr. Spaulding was born icon July 9, 1965, in Morrisville, a son of Norman and Doris (Carpentier) Spaulding. He attended Peoples Academy in Morrisville. He was first employed as a farmhand at several farms in Morrisville. He worked for ten years for Miller Egg Farm in Morrisville, Top Notch in Stowe for three years, and for more than 11 years as an auto mechanic at the Craftsbury Garage. He recently was a heavy equipment mechanic for Tibbits Equipment in Underhill. He enjoyed the time that he spent with his family and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and racing. Survivors include his parents, Doris and Norman Spaulding, of Hyde Park; his longtime companion, Barbara Keene, of East Hardwick and her children Kory Keene and his wife, Terra, of Hyde Park and Kevin Keene and his fiancee, Brandy, of Wolcott; two brothers, Ernest Spaulding of Williamstown and Edward Spaulding and his wife, Nancy, of Eden; a sister, Nichole Spaulding, and her companion, Brian Vincent, of Newport; four grandchildren: Taylor Keene of Wolcott and Tanner, Jacob, and Ariana Keene of Hyde Park; nieces and nephews: Stephanie Spaulding, Stacey Spaulding, and Leslie Ann Spaulding, stepniece Samantha Parker, and stepnephew Joshua Parker, all of Eden, ShanelleRozeFarnham of Newport, Deirdre Gaye and great-niece Isatou, both of Mukilteo, Washington; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service was held February 3 at St. Norbert's Church in Hardwick. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Spaulding's memory may be made to the Hardwick Rescue Squad, P.O.
