Jane E. NEWBOLD

Jane E. Newbold of Covington died July 20, 2002 in Seattle. Jane passed away peacefully with her family at her side after a brief but courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was 37. Born in St. Louis, MO., Jane was the youngest daughter of George and Sue Eberle, with sisters Leigh and Ann. Jane fell in love with and married her husband Bill in 1990, and later gave birth to their "miracle baby" Andy Newbold in 1998. Jane obtained a Bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Florida and then became a licensed Landscape Architect in WA State, where she operated her own business. Known affectionately as "Jane-o", to her close family and many friends, Jane enjoyed hiking, traveling, camping and creative landscaping. Her main pleasure was sharing the joy of her life with her 3-year-old son Andy and her loving husband Bill. In her final days and hours, Jane was a source of great courage and inspiration to her family and those around her. A celebration of Jane's life will take place at a later date. Remembrances in honor of Jane may be made to Washington University, University Medical Alumni, Ovarian Cancer Research, 4444 Forest Park, Suite 6500, St. Louis, MO 63108. (Obit dated 07/28/2002.)

Edna May (Smith) NOLAN

Edna May (Smith) NOLAN, 85, died July 24, 2002, in Tacoma. A third- generation Washingtonian, she was born in Seattle, November 24, 1916, the second child of John H. and Helen Livingston Smith. Her parents were active members of the I.W.W. in Seattle and Edna was a "Rebel Girl, " and as a young girl often sang at I.W.W. meetings and other gatherings. She attended Cleveland, Garfield and Franklin High Schools. She married George Nolan in 1937. They moved to Tacoma in 1945 and then to Yakima in 1947, where she resided until 1993, when she returned to Tacoma to be with her son, Ed. Edna was diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease in 1987, but continued to live life to its fullest, retaining her good humor, kindness, and devotion to her family. She eagerly participated in numerous Alzheimer's experimental drug programs at the UW/VA Medical Center, hoping that others might benefit. She is survived by her sons Edward of Tacoma, George of Yakima, Kenneth of Olympia and several grandchildren and great-grand- children. Edna is remembered by all who were blessed with the gift of her friendship for her courage, good humor, kindness, love and love for her family. A Celebration of Edna's life will be held at Tuell-McKee Funeral Home (253) 272-1414, 2215 - 6th Avenue, Tacoma, at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2002. The family suggests that, in lieu of flowers, remembrances be made to Franciscan Hospice of Tacoma, P.O. Box 1502, Tacoma, WA. 98401-9836. (Obit dated 07/28/2002.)

Mildred L. NOVAK
Philip F. NOVAK

Of Redmond, Washington, died just two weeks apart, Philip, 83, on July 1, 2002, and Mildred, 81, on July 15, 2002, after 61 years of marriage. They had both suffered long illnesses. Both Philip and Mildred were born and educated in Kansas, moving to the Seattle area in 1962. Philip worked for the Boeing Company for 44 years before his retirement in 1984. They are survived by their nine children and their spouses, Karen and David Bennett of Poulsbo, WA., Linda and John Herres of Vancouver, WA., Tom and Lynn Novak of Redmond, WA., Randall Novak of Edmonds, WA., Jane and Rob Sinnett of Bainbridge Island, WA., Deborah and David Moyle of Mt. Vernon, WA., Vicki and Max Hinrichs of Forsyth, IL., Julie and Mark Erickson of Vancouver, WA., and Drew and Julie Novak of Sequim, WA.; their 17 grandchildren, Suzanne and Mason Flint, Drew Bennett, Peter and Courtney Herres, Samantha, Philip, and Kyle Novak, Melissa Macedo, Erica and David Moyle, Molly and Juliann Hinrichs, Elena and Adam Erickson, and Jacob, Bethany and Hannah Novak; and by Mildred's sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and Robert Hawkins of Topeka, KS. Memorial Services will be held at 12:30 pm, on Monday, August 5 at The Hollywood Schoolhouse, 14810 N.E. 145th St., Woodinville, WA. Remembrances to Evergreen Hospice Service, 12822 124th Lane N.E., Kirkland, WA. 98034. (Obit dated 07/31/2002.)

Ademar Padron NUNES

July 23, 2002 in Curitiba, Brazil Father, husband, poet, dreamer, thinker, banker, inspired student of the human condition, playwriter, actor, director, singer (and not only in the shower). Dema left us but he will live forever in our hearts. He is survived by his wife, Marta and his daughter, Georgia. (Obit dated 07/30/2002.)

Gabriel Oscar de Lima ORMONDE

Born October 22, 1935 in Azores, died July 26, 2002 in Renton at age 66. He is survived by his wife Terri Ormonde, Renton, children Ronna Ormonde, Renton, Tim Ormonde, Renton, sister Maria Ormonde, Fremont, CA., brother Joe Ormonde, Fremont, CA. Visitation Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Faull-Stokes Mortuary, Renton. Funeral Mass Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, Renton. Remembrances to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research. (Obit dated 07/28/2002.)

Judi Lynne OSTROW
8/25/1946 - 7/15/2002

Originally from Poughkeepsie, NY., Judi came to Seattle in 1967 to visit relatives, and fell in love with the area where she spent the remainder of her life. She worked for many years as a salesperson and bookkeeper, until her diabetes led to gradually failing health. She is survived by her brother, Barry J. Ostrow of Savannah, GA. and several cousins including Jonathan H. Ostrow, of Seattle. A family service was held on 7/24/2002. Her family wishes to thank her many friends for their kindness and support, especially: Rick Madden, Polly & Tom Adams, Jan, and the Talbot family, and her physicians, Hope Druckman, Fran Broyles, and Peter Mohai. Marvin Ralph OTNESS

passed away on July 19, 2002. Born May 8, 1951 in Seattle and raised in Ballard. Marv graduated from Ballard High School in 1969; served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves and made a career with the Seattle Fire Department, retiring in 1999 after more than 27 years service. He will be remembered by family, friends and neighbors as fun- loving, caring, kind and always willing to lend a hand to anyone. Marv was proud of his Norwegian heritage and loved the out-of-doors; working on cars; and using his gift of mechanical ability. Survivors include his parents Ralph and Clara Otness, Seattle; sister Karen (David) Grunerud of Camano Island; spouse Suzanne, daughter Oriana, stepson, Ron of Whidbey Is land and numerous other relatives. Marv is also survived by his companion Julie Prantil, Seattle. A Celebration of Marv's Life will be held on Sunday, August 18th, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Ray's Boathouse, Northwest Room, 6049 Seaview Ave. N. W., Seattle. Jack R. PARSONS

Age 88, died July 22, 2002. Retired professor of Social Work, University of Washington. preceded in death by his first wife, Rhea and second wife Ruth. Survived by his children: Cheryl Wellington, Robin Parsons, Kim Parsons and many loving grandchildren. His hobbies included stamp collecting, wine making and reading. His love for animals was evidenced by his volunteer activities as a docent at the Woodland Park Zoo. He worked in Sri Lanka, Cyprus, and Australia promoting child welfare issues. Memorial Service to be held at the home of Lakshman & Pat DeSilva on Sunday, August 4, 2002.

Doris Wilma Huber PAUST
March 8, 1920 - July 27, 2002

Born in Seattle, WA. Lifelong resident of the Pacific Northwest. She loved the outdoors (especially the beach), gardening, collecting rocks, music, crafts, bicycling, puzzles, playing the piano, and playing cards. Doris, who was always known to everyone as Jeri, was always very active and loved life. In her earlier years she worked for both KOL and KAYO radio stations as the music librarian. Survivors include her sister Geraldine "Gerry" Enger (Bill), cousin William "Bill" Salmon (Shirley), daughter Joyce Anne Simpson (Robin Moi), son Gary Gomes, twin daughters Georgia Paletta (Neal Levine) and Sandra "Sandy" Fowler-Ellis (Dave), 9 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A Graveside Service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, August 1, 2002 in Washelli cemetery. Arrangements by Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home. (Obit dated 07/31/2002.)

Donald Michael Eugene REESE

Born on December 22, 1942, Michael passed away in Seattle July 26, 2002. He was the son of Gustav and Elsie Reese and was raised on the family wheat ranch in the Horse Heaven Hills of Southeastern Washington. He is survived by his wife, Helga, his children, Karla Reese Dawley, Marcus, and Sabrina Reese, his brothers, Oscar Leeholm, Allan, and Robert Reese, and his sister Joan Hamada. Michael attended Valparaiso University where he re ceived an undergraduate degree in Political Science and a graduate degree in Law. He has been a member of the Washington State Bar Association since 1970. He began working at the King County Medical Society in 1970 where he has been the Executive Director for the past 23 years. During this time it grew to become one of the largest regional physician member associations in the country. He was also a co-owner of Ace Tank and Equipment Company. His greatest passion and form of artistic expression was flying. He shared his love of flying with his family and friends as an avid pilot and flight instructor for nearly 40 years. Through his understanding of aviation he introduced people to this expression, creating memorable experiences for all those whom he encountered. He lived for his wife and children and touched more people's lives than he ever realized. A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in West Seattle on Wednesday, July 31 at ten o'clock in the morning. In lieu of flowers please contribute to the Swedish Cancer Institute or your favorite charity. (Obit dated 07/30/2002.)

Laura M. ROBERTS

Loving wife, mother and grandmother passed away at her home surrounded by her family in Bothell at the age of 86. Laura was born on January 14, 1916 in Hankinson, N.D. In August 8, 1936 she married her loving husband Floyd Roberts and they later moved to the area in 1949. Laura was preceded in death by her husband Floyd. Laura loved her family. her home and her garden. She is survived by her son Franklin and wife Pattie Roberts and daughter Kimberly (Roberts) Gallagher. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Services will be held on Thursday, August the 1st at 1 p.m. at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood, there will be a time of Viewing held prior to the Service from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Obit dated 07/28/2002.)

Sussette May SACHS

Died June 21st from complications related to cancer, in Burien WA. Born March 29th, 1918, in Benton, Wisconsin, to Swiss immigrant, G.R. Zubler; survived by sons Lawrence and John Sachs, and daughter, Mary McCoy; also survived by her sister, Marie Abel, 92, of Shelton, WA, six grand-children, and five great-grandchildren. preceded in death by her siblings Joe, John, Otto and Mary Zubler, and husband, Raymond, to whom she was married 53 years. Susie was famous for her cookies, and her willingness to lend a hand to family, friends and neighbors in times of need. No funeral service will be held, at her request. (Obit dated 07/28/2002.)
