Howard R. COTTRELL
October 11, 1926 - December 7, 2000

Cherished husband of Linda Gould-Cottrell, Howard died in comfort and peace at his Lake Forest Park home December 7. He was a devoted father to Frank, Elaine (Joe Hill), Ross (Elisa) and Lynda (Todd Warden); stepchildren David Brass (Moria) and Leah Livesey (Yitzhak). Howard leaves 10 grandchildren, Andrea, Dylan, Emma, Maria, Tory, Courtney, Amber, Cody, Larry, and Noah. He leaves his sister, Anne and brother-in-law Dick Taylor, many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews, many cousins, and his dear aunt, Naomi Clifton. preceded in death by his sister Kay. He will be deeply missed by all his family and by everyone who knew him. Howard was born in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, son of C.A. (Doc) and Emma Cottrell. He was a devoted and loving son all his life. He served proudly as an officer in the U.S. Navy during and after World War II. Howard graduated with a BA and MBA from the University of Michigan. Following several years in the private sector, he held administrative positions as chief financial officer in 5 universities, retiring in 1991 as Controller of the University of Washington. Next only to his family, Howard enjoyed traveling. He visited many parts of the world, including Europe, Asia, the Caribbean, and New Zealand. In August this year, he completed his goal of visiting and taking his picture in every one of more than 3,000 U. S. counties, including those in Alaska and Hawaii. Seventy relatives and friends from all over the country celebrated the event with him at a grand party in Fort Morgan, Colorado on August 12. Aside from his county project, his special hobbies included visiting Civil War sites, reading about that event, and attending college football and basketball games. He was an ardent Husky fan. Howard will be remembered as a thoughtful, caring and considerate friend, colleague, supervisor, mentor and neighbor. He truly enjoyed children. He will be missed by many people, especially youngsters, whose call, "Hi Howard," was often heard as he took his walks on neighborhood streets in Lake Forest Park. He lived the Rotarian motto of "Service above self," enriching others' lives through his goodness. A Celebration of his Life will be held at the Lake Forest Park Presbyterian Church, 17440 Brookside Blvd. NE, at 3 pm Friday, December 15. Remembrances in his name may be made to the Cottrell-Gould Charitable Trust at the Seattle Foundation, 425 Pike Street, Suite 510, 98101; to the Cottrell Endowed Memorial Scholarship, Iowa Wesleyan College, 601 North Main, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa 52641; or to the charity of your choice. Internment will be private. (Obit dated 12/10/2000.)

Hugh F. COYLE

Born September 7, 1917, in Butte, Montana; died December 10, 2000 in Seattle. Survived by his sister, Marie Coyle; his uncle Dr. Joseph Coyle of Bremerton; and his cousins, Manus Ritter of Crowley, TX., Lee Doherty of Lynnwood, Jerry (Linda) Fox of Federal Way, WA., Jo Anne Guiberson (Michael) of Bothell, Margaret Coyle of California, Dr. Terrance Coyle (Betty) of Bellevue, and Roger Coyle (Claudia) of Bremerton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, December 13 at 11 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Private interment at Holyrood cemetery. Josephine Marie DAVIS 89, died December 9, in Newhall, CA. Davis was born June 8, 1911 in Seattle and resided in Santa Clarita, CA. She is survived by her sister, Olga Solbeck of Seattle, her daughters, Leslie Benson Kautto of Omaha, Neb., and Jane Tyndale of Valencia, CA., her six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. A Rosary Service will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Newhall, California. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at the Church. Steven Ray DeBOER

passed away peacefully on December 9, 2000 at his home in Bothell after a battle with cancer. He was born to Norman C. and Marie Wark DeBoer on August 12, 1948 in Aberdeen, South Dakota. His family moved to Manhattan, Montana where he attended grade school and High School. He continued his education at Multnomah School of The Bible in Portland, Oregon. After which he served in the Marines for four years in Vietnam. Steve had a strong interest in Mechanics and attended a mechanical school in Denver, Colorado. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Seattle and began his 20 year career at Fredrick Cadillac in Seattle and Land Rover in Bellevue and was happily employed there at the time of his death. Steve enjoyed the outdoors, spending time with his friends and family, and most of all loved to bicycle. He will be remembered for his deep faith in God and loving devotion to his family and friends. Steve is survived by his wife of 14 years, Sharon; three daughters, Charlotte Divine and husband Jay and grandson Jayce of Edmonds; Christine Benson and husband Brian of Edmonds; and Shannon Falsis and husband Rudy of Bothell; parents, Norman and Marie DeBoer of Boardman, OR.; two sisters, Cheryl Tallman and Husband Terry of Boardman; Suella Graybill and husband Larry of Postfalls, ID.; three nephews, Jonathan Tallman of Seattle, Derrin Tallman of Boardman, and Benjamin Graybill of Postfalls; two nieces, Crystal Tallman at OIT, Klammoth Falls, OR.; and Aubrey Graybill of Postfalls. Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 14 at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills; 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood. Margaret (Peg) DEJKA

Beloved mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor born October 21, 1924 in Stephenson, Michigan. passed away unexpectedly in Seattle on December 11, 2000. She is survived by her son Scott and daughters Carol, Peggy, Terry, Janice, Susan and Tracy; and by nine grandchildren. She was in the Waves in W.W. II then the proprietor of a beauty shop in Daggett, MI. With her husband Raymond and three children, she moved to Seattle in 1955. She was an active member of St. Thomas Catholic Parish for 45 years. She has played in many Bridge groups for over 30 years, and enjoyed many trips to Reno over the years. Peg loved her life and the people in it. Her sense of humor helped everyone appreciate the lighter side of life. Rosary Service 7 p.m., Friday, December 15 at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial, SeaTac. Funeral Mass Saturday, December 16 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 4415 S. 140th St., Tukwila, followed by interment and reception at the church. Dennis Lee DETAMORE

Dennis Lee DETAMORE, 35, passed away Deember 6, 2000 in Renton. He was born September 23, 1965 in Los Angeles, CA. Dennis is survived by three sons Brandon, Kevin and Erik Detamore; and their mother Tammy Birdsall; parents Roy and Gwenna Detamore; two sisters Lindy Detamore and Cindy Detamore, one brother Roy Detamore; and an aunt Jackie Rudd. Alice was born July 26, 1920 in Stickney, SD and died December 11, 2000 in Seattle, WA at the age of 80 years. She is survived by her daughter Kathryn Injerd and husband William and son Kenneth Edleman and wife Jackie; brothers Lawrence and Donald Artz; sisters Margaret Artz, Dorothy Helland, Mabel Allgaier, Norma Glock and Esther Holubiczko and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her hus band, Harold Edleman, two brothers and two sisters. Funeral service Friday, December 15, 2000 at 10:00 AM at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial, 16445 Pacific Hwy. Marvin L. ENGQUIST "Cap"

Marvin L. ENGQUIST "Cap" born February 20, 1944; passed away suddenly in San Francisco, CA Tuesday, December 5, 2000. He is survived by his wife, Susan Movae Engquist; his daughter, Shelley Movae; son, Patrick Marvin; mother, Arnell Engquist of Seattle, and his beloved pets, Sabaka and Redford. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Trygve and Movae Jorgensen; sister-in-law, Jennifer Kroeger; and nieces, Kacey and Katherine Kroeger. He was recently preceded in death by his father, Col. Marvin J. Engquist (11-27-2000), and his niece, Kari A. Kroeger (10-12-2000). Cap will also be deeply missed by his many relatives of the Donovan and Leamy families. Cap, like his father, was proud to serve his country and did so in the Army with the 525th Military Intelligence Group, TET Offensive, Vietnam. He was an Internal Auditor with United Savings & Loan. Cap will be remembered for his deep Faith, his enthusiastic enjoyment of sports, times at the beach cabin and Sun Valley, his beautiful lawns, and most of all his unconditional devotion to all of his family. Fredric EWOLDT

The world has lost a most unique man. A true intellectual, Fred was born in Crawsfordsville, Indiana, educated at DePauw University, and taught English and Humanities for 30 years at Kent Meridian High School. So many talents; Fred was an artist, writer and philosopher. An analyzer of life, he was a complicated man but a mentor to many. He loved good books, was a gourmet cook, a lover of music, an opinionated liberal and an avid golfer. He loved and was loved. So very sad to see him go. Relief at last Fred. Jeanne L. (Blair) FOERSTER

Born October 24, 1918 and passed away December 12, 2000. She was raised in Seattle attending Lincoln High School and the U. of W. where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She is survived by a sister, Joyce Wick (Carl); two children, Joan Gooding (Eric) and Marsh Foester Jr. (Chris); five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Burial Services will be private and there will be a Memorial Service on a date to be chosen later. Remembrances to Children's Hospital.

Robert Gordon FRAIN

Kirkland resident, died December 8, 2000 at age 67. A retired Siemens executive, Robert was a former Marine who served in the Korean War. Mr. Frain is survived by his wife, Helen; children, Kathleen and her husband, Kevin Laborde of New Orleans, LA.; Laurie Frain of Boulder, CO.; Jil Frain of Kirkland, WA.; and Robert Frain of Seattle, WA; and grandchildren, Rachel Fuchs, Ashton, Trevor and Rylee Laborde. A reception to commemorate Robert's life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 15 at Green's Kirkland Funeral Home in the Mansion's living room.
