Trudy Leona HAWLEY

"You can only tell people my age in my obituary," and "I've lied about my age so much that I don't remember how old I really am!" So, with that, she was born on February 7, 1901, and passed away, peacefully, on December 10, 2000. "I don't want to live to be 100!" and as with most things in her life, she did it her own way, passing away less than two months before her 100th birthday. Mother of Dick (deceased); grandmother of Mike (deceased), Trudy, and Pam; great-grandmother of Michael, Shawna, Joshua, Kelsey, Jade, and Jensen. Grandmother, by marriage, of John and Jim. Known by all the kids in the family as "Gaga," she was an inspiration to everyone. Charter member and past president of the Seattle Banjo Club, former owner of the Del Rio and Trudy's taverns, bridge player, world traveler, entertainer, golfer, and gardener. Privileged to have many friends in her long adventure of a life. Her greatest pleasures were her great-grandchildren, a cold beer on her patio, listening to the Seattle Banjo Band play at their annual festival, and an occasional glass of Seagram's "cough medicine." Unusually determined and strong, she was someone who was truly self-made, and her wisdom and wit will be sorely missed. Thanks to Kayona and everyone at Cascade House, for allowing her to continue to live with such dignity. To Ruth and Elenoa, sincere thanks. And especially, to Dr. Randy Ensminger, thank you for the wonderful care you gave her. You are a gem, and she sure appreciated you. Right now, she is strumming the banjo, singing "When You're Smiling," and we know she is smiling. A poem she often quoted to her grandchildren: Clock of Life The Clock of Life is wound but once, and no man has the power to tell just when the hands will stop, at late or early hour. Now is the only time you own. So live and toil with will, place no faith in your tomorrow, for the clock may then be still. Viewing will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, December 13, 2000 and Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 14, 2000 at Bonney-Watson Washington Memorial Funeral Home, 16445 Pacific Hwy. South, SeaTac. (Obit is from 12/13/2000 to 12/14/2000.)
