Thelma Bachand
Thelma I. Bachand of Port Orchard, Washington died of heart failure December 10, 2003 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. She was 83.
She was born May 19, 1920 in Casper, Wyoming to Seth and Emma (Friend) Peebles.
She married Ulric "Curley" Bachand.
Thelma was a homemaker and worked for NAD Park Ammunition Depot during WWII as a tool room keeper.
She was a member of ALNON; loved crafts; was an avid walker; volunteered at Manchester Elementary School Library.
She was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church.
Thelma is survived by son - Robert Bachand of Port Orchard; daughter - Cheryl Reite of Port Orchard; 2 grandchildren (Jason Bachand and Shelly Henderson); 2 great-grandchildren (Avery Henderson and Jayla Bachand); numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by: sister - Violet Cruz and brother - Les Peebles.
A graveside service will be held at Sunset Lane Memorial Park in Port Orchard, Washington at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2003.

Lawrence King
Lawrence "Larry" Junior King of Sandpoint, Idaho died December 8, 2003 in Seattle, Washington following a courageous battle with cancer. He was 62.
He was born July 10, 1941 in Sandpoint, Idaho to Lawrence W. and Myrle Virginia (Millin) King; and, was raised in Port Orchard, Washington.
He married Freda M. (French) May 12, 2003 in Bremerton, Washington.
Lawrence attended South Kitsap Senior High School in Port Orchard, Washington. He attained a GED.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 - attaining rank of E-5. He enlisted at age 16.
Lawrence was an entrepeneur owning several automotive related businesses in Alameda, California. He moved from Alameda, California to Sandpoint, Idaho in 1989 and opened King's Logging and Towing while still maintaining a second home here in Port Orchard next door to the home he grew up in.
Larry was preceded in death by his father Lawrence King in 1975.
He is survived by his partner of 25 years who became his wife five short months ago, Freda King, of Sandpoint, Idaho; mother - Virginia King of Bremerton, Washington; sons - Scott King of Texas; Michael White (& wife, Gianna) of Cameron Park, California; daughter - Amber King of Santa Maria, California; Alice King of Santa Maria, California; step-daughter -Jera of Wodehouse (& husband, James) of Alameda, California; Kristie Brouhard and Brandi Huft (of Post Falls, Idaho) and 13 grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings: Richard King (& wife, Connie) of Port Orchard, Washington; Alma Singleton of Bremerton, Washington; Thomas King (& wife, Lynda) of Arnold, California and Paul King (& wife, Pamela) of Bremerton, Washington. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Larry was known by by his family and many friends as the "life of the party" and the one who could keep things exciting. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
A visitation was held noon to 5:00 p.m. on December 12, 2003 at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center.
A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m. on December 13, 2003 at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center.

He enjoyed gambling and cars.

Kevin Duren
Kevin R. Duren of Bremerton, Washington died December 13, 2003 at Harrison Memorial Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. He was 42.
He was born March 23, 1961 in Seattle, Washington to Dale and Delores (Law) Duren.
Kevin graduated from Rainier High School in Buckley, Washington.
He was formerly a security guard; and, was also employed with various carnivals.
Kevin is survived by his parents - Dale and Delores (Law) Duren of Port Orchard, Washington; brother - Kirk Duren of Kirkland, Washington.
A memorial service will be held at the Port Orchard Eagles January 10, 2004 at 1:00 p.m.

Ruth Hansen Goebel
Ruth H. Goebel died of heart failure December 10, 2003 at her Port Orchard, Washington residence. She was 94.
She was born May 24, 1909 in Logan, Kansas to Ralph and Stella (Presnell) Hansen.
Ruth married Howard Rusco - later divorced and remarried Marvin Goebel in 1947.
She graduated from Burr Oak High School in Burr Oak, Kansas; and, attended Hays College in Hays, Kansas.
Ruth worked as a bookkeeper at American Legion in Topeka, Kansas and for the North Pacific Lumber Company in Portland, Oregon for 18 years - retiring in 1974.
Prior to that position, she and her first husband published a weekly newspaper in both Burr Oak and Logan, Kansas.
Ruth was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard, Washington.
Ruth is survived by daughters - Penelope Allen of Burley; Rebecca Oglesby of Clifton, Kansas; Belinda Eastmond of Detroit, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by daughter - Diana Peavy and sister - Marie Beanblossom.
A memorial service will be held at Ridgemont Terrace Apartments Dining Room on December 13, 2003 at 2:00 p.m.

Eileen Kenney
Eileen Frieda Kenney of Port Orchard, Washington died peacefully in her sleep of polmonary hypertension and Crest Syndrome complications at her home on December 11, 2003.
She was born December 5, 1939 in Tacoma, Washington to Walter L. and Frieda (Sorick) Hawks.
She married George L. Kenney December 5, 1959 in Port Orchard, Washington.
Eileen graduated from South Kitsap High School in Port Orchard, Washington in 1958; and, graduated from Olympic College in Bremerton, Washington in 1959. She attained training as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
She worked for 10 years as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
Eileen enjoyed camping and fishing; enjoyed volunteer work with children's athletic programs; was head of Women's Billiards League for 20 years in Kitsap County; was a charter member of Ramblin Eagles RV Club.
She is survived by husband - George Lester Kenney of the Port Orchard, Washington family home; son - Kevin M. Kenney of Idaho; daughter - Krista L. Kenney of Bremerton, Washington; brother - Stanley Hawks (& wife, Ruby) of Pascagoula, MS; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and aunt Grace Hawks of Port Orchard; 5 grandchildren (Amy R. Johnson, Derek L. Conway, Angel R. Platt, Devin M. Kenney, Jesse M.W. Larson).
Interment will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma, Washington on December 19, 2003 at 1:00 p.m.

Emma Van Hek
Emma Van Hek died December 12, 2003 at Ridgmont Terrace, Port Orchard, Washington. She was 93.
She was born February 12, 1910 in Semarang, Indonesia to Louis and Sarinten Martens.
Emma married Rudolph Van Hek (who died in 1975 after 49 years of marriage).
She taught sewing for most of her life in Indonesia. She lived 20 years in California before moving to Port Orchard, Washington in 1993.
Emma is survived by son - Ronald Van Hek (& wife, Winnie) of Los Angeles, California; daughters - Winny Westergaard (& husband, Jan) of Port Orchard, Washington; Ernestine Schreefel (& partner, Chuck Doeve) of Florida; Esther Gouyn Stook (& husband, Gerrit) of Netherlands; sister - Connie Koopman of Netherlands; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great/great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center in Port Orchard, Washington from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 15, 2003.
A funeral service will be held at Rill Chapel's Life Tribute Center at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 16, 2003.
Interment will be held at Miller Woodlawn.

Ronald L. Tollefson, Sr.
Ronald Lawrence Tollefson, Sr., 89, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 14, 2003 at Ridgemont Terrace Nursing Home in Port Orchard, Washington.
He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on June 20, 1914 to Lawrence and Mabel Tollefson. His family, including one brother and four sisters, moved to Spokane in his early teen years and later resided in Seattle where he attended Queen Anne High School. On December 20, 1941 he married Verna Pederson and they made their home in Seattle before moving to Bremerton in 1947 where he bought and operated the Beacon Motel and trailer court as well as working in PSNS as a welder, retiring in 1980.
In his youth he loved to go ice skating and revived this love after retirement. As a young adult he enjoyed tennis, golf and fishing.
He was a deeply committed Christian and attended South Park Assembely of God for over 40 years. He taught Sunday school, was an officer in the local Full Gospel Businessmen's Chapter and later after retirement raised money for Chinese Missions and assisted a Chinese Christian church in Seattle.
He is survived by his wife Verna Tollefson; his sons Ronald Jr., of Bremerton and John Tollefson, of Sequim; his daughters Linda Reetz, of Federal Way and Barbara Eneberg, of Edmonds; an older sister Louise Brandt, of Spokane; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, December 28, 2003 at South Park Assembly of God Church in Port Orchard.

James Howard Van Horn

James Howard Van Horn, 40, died at his home in Port Orchard, Washington on October 30, 1999. He was born May 3, 1959 in Palmer, Alaska. James was raised in Belfair, Washington by Robert & Hallie Van Horn and graduated from North Mason High School in 1977.
Mr. Van Horn worked as a Carpenter with Keicos Construction at Ballard Locks for the past year. He previously worked in logging for Simpson Lumber and did woodwork and construction throughout his life. He was a member of the National Rifle Association.
Surviving are daughters LeAnn Van Horn of Port Orchard, Washington, Crystal Van Horn of Port Orchard, and Hallie Van Horn of Bremerton, Washington; brothers Jack Ridge of Belfair; John Ridge of Benton City, Washington, and Ben Van Horn of Underwood, Washington; sister Cheryl Royer of Gig Harbor, Washington; and grandchildren Matthew Sewell of Port Orchard and Kaytona McEdward of Port Orchard. He was preceded in death by sister Kais Stryker in 1978 and brother David Van Horn in 1973.
A Graveside Inurnment will be held at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair, Washington on Thursday, November 4, 1999 at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Northwest Burn Foundation, 1515 NW 52nd Street, Suite A, Seattle, WA 98107.

Lavern Allen Borah
September 25, 1921 - October 19, 1999

Lavern Allen Borah, 78, died at his home in Port Orchard on October 19, 1999. He was born September 25, 1921 in Mt. Ida, Wisconsin to Samuel Virgil & Caroline (Allen) Borah. Lavern was raised in Redstone, Montana and graduated from Scobey High School in Scobey, Montana in 1938. He attended the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. Lavern married Georgette M. Fievet in Belgium on December 19, 1944.
Mr. Borah worked as an Automotive Mechanic at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1981. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946 receiving numerous medals including the American Campaign, European/African/Middle Eastern; World War II Victory, and good conduct medal. Lavern was the Past Master of Masonic Lodge #206 in Bremerton and Honorary Past Master of Lodge #98 in Port Orchard. He was a member of Scottish Rite, Eastern Star, and was a Shriner in Al Aska.
Surviving are his wife; sons Jim & Dan Borah of Tacoma; daughter Lillian Crawford of Bremerton; and 6 grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 30, 1999 at 1:00 pm at the Bremerton Masonic Lodge #206, 878 5th Street in Bremerton. Inurnment will be at Mt. Ida Baptist Chuch cemetery in Mt. Ida, Wisconsin.

Ronald M. Mock
December 10, 1919 - October 23, 1999
Services: October 30, 1999
Ronald M. Mock, 79, died at the Port Orchard Care Center in Port Orchard, Washington on October 23, 1999. He was born December 10, 1919 in Bancroft, Idaho and moved to southern California at a young age. He graduated from Manuel Arts High School in Los Angeles, California in 1937, graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles with a Bachelor's Degree in Botany, and received a Masters Degree in Counseling at Loyola Marymount College in Los Angeles. Ronald married Mary Oliver on June 21, 1952 in Los Angeles.
Mr. Mock was the Supervisor of Psychological Services with the Los Angeles School District for 30 years, retiring in 1979. He served in the U. S. Army from 1941 to 1952 achieving the rank of 1st Lieutenant. Ronald served in India during World War II as and Automatic Weapons Instructor and Air Cargo Handling Instructor, and in the China, India, Burma theaters of operation. Mr. Mock was a member of Campfire Girls Council of California; Chairman of the Board of the Rolling 'J' Ranch in California; Board member of Message of Life in California; member of Del Rey Hill Evangelical Free Church in Playa del Rey, California; and attended Harper Evangelical Free Church in Port Orchard.
A Memorial Service will be October 30, 1999 at 2:00 PM at Harper Evangelical Free Church in Port Orchard. Private family interment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
