Mary Merley
Mary Merley, 82, of Port Orchard died Nov. 25, 1999, at Later Years/Adult Family Home in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Roy and Ann (Firey) Antelman. She was raised and educated in Aberdeen. She graduated from Carleton College in Northfield, Minn., in 1939.
She married Dr. Robert Merley on June 24, 1939, in Aberdeen. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Merley was a homemaker. She was active in the Orthopedic Guild at Children's Hospital.
Survivors include one son, Steve of Bremerton; one daughter, Susan Anderson of Port Orchard; one sister, Betty Ranney of South Dakota; and five grandchildren, Kristine Mirander of Portland, Ore., Beth and Eric Anderson, both of Port Orchard; and Alexander and Sara Merley, both of Bremerton; and one great-grandchild.
An open house is planned from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at her daughter's home, 2900 Royalwood Place SE in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kitsap County Humane Society or to the Gideons.

Sally Rebholz
Jewell "Sally" Rebholz, 85, of Quilcene died Nov. 25, 1999, at her home.
She was born July 5, 1914, in Tacoma. She was a high school graduate.
She married Manley "Bud" Rebholz on Aug. 5, 1937, in Tacoma.
Mrs. Rebholz was a homemaker. She was active in the Homemakers Association in Quilcene and in Federal Way and 4-H judging in Jefferson County.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Gary of Seattle; two daughters, Letty Haisman of Allyn and Wendy Danielson of Pe Ell; one brother, Merrill Ostlund of Quilcene; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Presbyterian Church in Quilcene. Arrangements are under the direction of Kosec Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to Quilcene Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 142, Quilcene, WA 98376.

Eleanora Babcock
Eleanora A. Babcock, 66, of Poulsbo died Nov. 26, 1999, at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton.
She was born July 11, 1933, in San Diego to William and Ebba Jewell.
As a military child and, later, a military wife, she lived all over the United States and the world. She graduated from high school in Santa Ana, Calif., and attended Santa Ana City College for two years.
She had lived in Kitsap County since 1971. For several years, she worked at Valley Nursery in Poulsbo and also served as a docent at the Marine Science Center in Poulsbo.
She was a member of Job's Daughters and the Suquamish Community Congregational United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband, Barry, of the family home. They were married April 8, 1954, in El Toro, Calif.
Other survivors are a son, William, of Scotts Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Brooks Ann Lange of Aloha, Ore.; a sister, Ebba Bernice Abbott of Orange, Calif.; three grandchildren, Barry Lange of San Diego, Matthew Lange of Issaquah and Jamie Lange of Beaverton, Ore.; and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at her church. Inurnment will be at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Marine Science Center, P.O. Box 2079, Poulsbo, WA 98370.
Arrangements are by The Stone Chapel in Poulsbo.

Shirley Twiss
Shirley F. Twiss, 64, of Bremerton died Nov. 22, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born May 17, 1935, in Glenwood Springs, Colo., to Floyd and Mattie (Vernon) Shepard. She grew up in Bremerton, graduating from Bremerton High School.
She married Robert B. Twiss on Sept. 14, 1984, in Bremerton. He preceded her in death May 16, 1992.
Mrs. Twiss was a homemaker.
Survivors include two sons, Richard Casteel of Bremerton and Don Casteel of Belfair; two daughters, Deborah Mullins of Gig Harbor and Marie Schruhl of Bremerton; a brother, Charles Shepard of Belfair; nine grandchildren, Eric, Tiffany and Lucas Casteel, Roland Mullins and Derek and Brenden Schruhl, all of Bremerton, Maranda Mullins of Port Orchard and Tyler and Austin Casteel, both of Belfair; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Stewart, in 1975.
A graveside service is planned for 3 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home, with a reception following.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 718 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton, WA 98310.

Robert Lauborough
Robert Lee Lauborough, 76, of Bremerton died of leukemia Nov. 21, 1999, in Bremerton.
He was born July 30, 1923, in Benicia, Calif., to Ollie and Mabel (Foote) Lauborough. He grew up in California.
Mr. Lauborough served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 as a storekeeper first class aboard USS Guadalupe. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal with two bronze stars and the Philippine Liberation Medal with one star.
He married Rose-Marie Holmes on June 12, 1950, in Lake Tahoe, Nev.
Mr. Lauborough worked in the grocery business for more than 32 years, most recently as a manager for Tradewell Stores in the greater Seattle area from 1962 to 1971 and from 1979 to 1983.
He also had been employed by Harvey's Inn in Lake Tahoe from 1974 to 1979, and had worked as a mobile home salesman in 1984, and as a used car salesman from 1996 to 1998.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Robin; three daughters, Donna Bolton of Modesto, Calif., Mary Brown of Glendale, Ore., and Lou-Ann of Bremerton; three brothers, Stan and Richard, both of Paradise, Calif., and Don of Santa Maria, Calif.; a sister, Gertrude Kuhnle of George's Mills, N.H.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Richard Davis, and by a brother, Arthur.
A memorial service is planned for 5 p.m. next Saturday at Unity Church of Bremerton. Inurnment will take place at Tahoma National Veterans cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383.

Donald M. Gilbert
Donald M. Gilbert, 68, died Nov. 23, 1999, at Liberty Shores of Poulsbo.
He was born July 29, 1931, in Kewaunee, Wis., to Melvin and Josephine Gilbert. He was raised and educated in Wisconsin and graduated from the Milwaukee School of Engineering.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict.
He worked as an aeronautical engineer with The Boeing Co. for 32 years until his 1989 retirement. Gilbert lived in Seattle throughout his career and moved to Poulsbo last year.
Survivors include two sons, Frank of Port Orchard and David of Suquamish; four daughters, Pamela of Kingston and Teresa of Juneau, Alaska, Donna Rees of Portland, Ore., and Lisa Merz of Seattle; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Stone Chapel of the Poulsbo Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Washington Affiliate, 557 Roy St. Lower Level, Seattle, WA 98109-4219.

Mary McCord
Mary W. McCord, 83, of Bremerton died Nov. 22, 1999, at her home.
She was born May 24, 1916, in Mildred, Mont. She was raised and educated in Montana.
She had worked as a restaurant waitress. She also had been a member of Tracyton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Milton Wester of Laurel, Mont.; two daughters, Persis Morris and Marilyn Winterowd, both of Bremerton; five stepchildren; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death.
Burial with a graveside service will take place at Mountain View cemetery in Livingston, Mont. A memorial service will be held in Bremerton at a later date. Arrangements are by Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Tracyton United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 127, Tracyton, WA 98393.

Clarence Darrow
Clarence E. Darrow, 74, of Bremerton died Nov. 23, 1999, at Forest Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Bremerton.
He was born March 14, 1925, in Cayuga, Wis., to Cooper and Elizabeth Darrow. He grew up in Wisconsin.
Mr. Darrow was self-employed in many areas, including home building and scrap iron. He also worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in his early years.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Walter of Silverdale and Rocky Walter of Kalispell, Mont.; four daughters, Ella May Pecoraro of Michigan, Cheri Johnson and Shelly Walter, both of Port Orchard, Linda Kreifels of Bremerton; two brothers, Roy of Wisconsin and Clyde of Bremerton; 13 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robin Walter, in 1982.
Inurnment will take place at 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Reginald Bass Jr.
Reginald Howard Bass Jr., 78, of Kingston died Nov. 19, 1999, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born June 25, 1921, in West Webster, N.Y., to Reginald and Edith (Weller) Bass Sr. He lived in Whitney Point, N.Y., until the age of 9, when he moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he was raised and educated. He joined the Royal Air Force in England at the beginning of World War II, serving as an airplane mechanic.
Mr. Bass also served in the Merchant Marines and in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a physical training instructor aboard USS Massachusetts.
Following the war, he worked with the Seattle Fire Department and for Doc Freeman's Seattle Marine Exchange. He retired from the fire department in 1969. From 1971 to 1976, he was employed by Washington State Ferries.
He married Alice M. Larson on July 15, 1946, in Seattle. She preceded him in death in 1992.
Mr. Bass was a member of Doric Lodge 92 Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite and the Shriners, all in Seattle.
Survivors include two sons, Dennis of Des Moines and Kenneth of Nokesville, Va.; two daughters, Susan Yadon of Sumner and Lyndal Heins of Gig Harbor; a brother, Herbert of Nampa, Idaho; and five grandchildren, Laura Bass, Shannon Yadon, Dorrie Lyn Yadon, Amanda Heins and James Heins.
At his request, there will be no services. Arrangements are by The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
