Laura Prescott
Laura Mae Prescott, 54, of Gorst died Nov. 10, 1999, at her home.
She was born May 16, 1945, to Albert and Esther (Gathman) Allen in Seattle. She grew up in Ocosta and graduated from Ocosta High School in Aberdeen in 1963.
She married Roger Prescott on Nov. 10, 1997, in Reno, Nev. Mrs. Prescott was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband; her ex-husband, Gaylord Wren; two sons, Jeffrey Orr and Allen Paul Browning, both of Port Orchard; four brothers, Lewis Allen, John Allen, Albert Allen Jr. and Victor Allen, all of Grays Harbor; a sister, Mary Graham of Westport; and six grandchildren, Cody Brooks, Elaina Baily, Sean Baily, Clayton Orr, Jennifer Orr and Raymond Browning, all of Port Orchard.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Clayton Orr; three brothers, James Allen, Henry Allen and Ray Allen; and a sister, Gail Miller Mathis of Port Orchard.
At her request, there will be no funeral. Arrangements are by Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Kitsap Helpline, 1770 Village Lane SE, Port Orchard, WA 98366.

Cecil Flinn
Cecil F. Flinn, 88, of Port Orchard died Nov. 11, 1999, at his home.
He was born May 31, 1911, in Sandy, Ore., to George and Silvia (Osborn) Flinn. He grew up in Sanger, Calif.
He married Olga Strilczuk on June 9, 1937, in Tacoma. She preceded him in death in 1998.
Mr. Flinn served in the Army from 1931 to 1939. He was a pipefitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for many years, retiring in 1966.
He was a member of the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry. He attended Colby United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Fred of Port Orchard; two daughters, Darlene Odell of Fair Oaks, Calif., and Joan of Renton; six grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Sunset Lane cemetery. Arrangements are by Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Clifford Crabbe Jr.
Clifford William Crabbe Jr., 58, of Poulsbo died Nov. 14, 1999, at Harrison Hospital after a battle with cancer.
He was born Jan. 28, 1941, in Pittsburgh, Pa. He grew up in Pittsburgh, attending Langley High School there.
Mr. Crabbe served in the Navy for 25 years. He was an underwater fire control system technician and an instructor.
He received the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Polaris Patrol Pin with one silver and three gold stars and the Navy Expeditionary Medal.
Following his military career, Mr. Crabbe went to work for Kitsap Transit as a bus driver. He worked in this position from 1995 until this year when he became ill.
He married Victoria A. Chacon on Feb. 19, 1983, in San Diego.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Paul of Poulsbo and Clifford III of California; two daughters, Linda Linton and Lori Swire, both of California; a brother, Ronald of California; a sister, Janice of Boston, Mass.; his mother and stepfather, Josephine and Ralph Lucero of California; and eight grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo. His ashes will be scattered at sea by the Navy. Arrangements are by Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Harrison Hospital Oncology Department.

Melvin Price
Melvin R. Price, 77, of Port Orchard died Nov. 13, 1999, in Port Orchard.
He was born Aug. 26, 1922, in North Miami, Okla., to Fred and Gertrude (Allhouse) Price. He grew up in Commerce, Okla., graduating from Commerce High School in 1941.
Mr. Price enlisted in the Army in 1942. He served during World War II with the 84th Infantry and 1885th Service Division.
He married Mildred M. Hart on June 16, 1944, in Commerce. She preceded him in death in 1998.
He had worked for Blocker and Bracer at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor. Previously, he had been an evergreen harvester, and a mink rancher for 20 years.
Mr. Price was a member of Masonic Lodge 98 in Port Orchard, Port Orchard Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 44 and a life member of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include a son, David of Port Orchard; a daughter, Melvadene Gabrilski of Tacoma; a brother, Floyd of Gold Run, Calif.; and a grandson, James Natland of Port Orchard.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A graveside service is planned for 1:30 p.m. Friday at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Michael Avila
Michael Johnny Cooper Avila, 14, of Port Orchard died Nov. 12, 1999, at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma.
He was born April 15, 1985, in Bremerton to Maria Cloeen (LaFazia) Avila. He grew up in Washington.
He was active in the 4-H Club and had been active in Boy Scouts, basketball and wrestling. He attended Cedar Heights Junior High School in Port Orchard and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Maria and Keith Hale of Port Orchard; his father, Delbert Cooper of Tumwater; three sisters, Amy and Sheena Avila and Kayleigh Hale, all of Port Orchard; and his grandparents, Cloeen LaFazia of Bremerton and Thomas and Glenda Hale of Basin, Wyo.
A funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Belfair. Interment icon will take place at Twin Firs cemetery in Belfair. Arrangements are by Tuell-McKee Funeral Home of Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to the LDS Missionary Fund, c/o Bishop Joseph Dahle, 3063 SW Lake Flora Road, Port Orchard, WA 98367.

Jesus Castro
Jesus Pablo Castro, 62, a resident of Bremerton and Port Orchard for 29 years, died Nov. 12, 1999.
He was born March 1, 1937, in Talofofo, Guam.
He worked in civil service for 35 years between work in Guam and as a heavy equipment operator in Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
He was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor, the Knights of Columbus and the Guam Club.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, gardening and cooking.
Survivors include his wife, Maria, of Port Orchard; nine daughters, Virginia Bumguardner and Priscilla Korf, both of Port Orchard, Rosita Sablan of Gig Harbor, Arlene Semides of Killeen, Texas, Juanita Castaneda, Jesusa Jones and Juana Paulino, all of Guam, Maria Hansen of Vancouver, Wa., and Annie Paulino of Moreno Valley, Calif.; a son, Jesus Castro of Guam; two brothers, Rafael Castro of Vancouver, Wa., and Tomas Castro of Florida; 41 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for family and friends will be at 7 p.m. today at Haven of Rest Funeral Home on Highway 16 in Gig Harbor, with a vigil service at 8 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Nicholas Catholic Church in Gig Harbor. Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Association, Washington Affiliate, 4414 Woodland Park Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103.

Chuck Semancik
A memorial service for former Bremerton resident and football coach Chuck Semancik was held Saturday at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Lakewood.
A short luncheon reception followed at the church with graveside ceremonies at Calvary cemetery in Tacoma.
Semancik, who coached 38 years at either West High or Bremerton High, was born July 31, 1915, in Wilkeson to John and Mary Semancik. He died Nov. 8 from congestive heart failure in Tacoma.
Semancik is survived by his wife, Theresa Semancik of Tacoma; two daughters, Joyce Stensen and Judy Hendrichs, both of Seattle, and two granddaughters, Heidi and Wendy Stensen. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene, who died in 1979, and his parents, four sisters and two brothers.
Stories about Semancik appeared in The Sun last week.

Midge Hipskind
Mary S. "Midge" Hipskind, 57, of Poulsbo died Nov. 14, 1999, at her home after battling cancer.
She was born Oct. 25, 1942, in Vallejo, Calif., to Edward and Doris (Cook) Price. She graduated from Vallejo High School and from Vallejo Junior College.
She married Larry Hipskind on Oct. 16, 1964, in Vallejo.
Mrs. Hipskind worked as a teacher's aide in numerous places while traveling with her husband during his military career. In 1980, they moved to Washington where she was employed at the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor as a Morale, Welfare and Recreation aide, working with children and young adults.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Douglas of Chanhassen, Minn.; a daughter, Deborah Roice of Graham; a stepson, Rick Elliott of Concord, Calif.; her mother, Doris Price of Desert Hot Springs, Calif.; a brother, Steve Price of Everett; her twin sister, Karen Kording of Muscatine, Iowa; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Carole Lyn Johnson
Former Bremerton resident Carole Lyn Johnson, 53, of Fife died Nov. 12, 1999, at her home after an 18-month battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born Dec. 6, 1945, in Ephrata to Robert L. and Bonnie G. (Biladeau) Johnston. She grew up in Bremerton, attending West High School and graduating from East High School in 1964. She graduated from Knapp Business College in Tacoma and from the University of Washington in Tacoma in 1994.
She was a medical claims investigator for Medicare for 15 years. Previously, she worked for Pierce County Medical, Aetna and TransAmerica insurance companies.
She was a past president of a woman's Rotary Club in Tacoma, a past president of the PTA in Puyallup while her son was attending school, an active volunteer in her community for years and a member of the Catholic church, attending church in the communities in which she lived.
Survivors include her mother; a son, Bret of Fife; and a brother, Dennis Johnston of Seabeck. She was preceded in death by her father in 1993 and by an infant daughter, Lara Rene Johnson, in 1970.
A funeral Mass will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton. Interment icon will take place at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.

James Warren
James Joseph Warren, 83, a longtime resident of Bremerton, died Oct. 15, 1999, at the home of his son in Bridgeport.
He was born Sept. 28, 1916, in Goodson, Mo.
He married Joyce Wyatt of Bremerton. She preceded him in death in December 1995.
Survivors include a son, Terry of Bridgeport; a daughter, Joy of Belfair; a sister, Ann Holmberg of Bainbridge Island; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services are planned. Burial will take place at Holly cemetery.
