Thomas Ward Sr.
Thomas Patrick Ward Sr., 54, of Suquamish died
Sept. 2, 2000, at the Seabeck home of his son, Tom.
He was born Nov. 25, 1945, in Newport to Ernest and Lillian (Hoepfer) Ward. He attended North Kitsap High School.
He married Mary Enos in June 1964 in Poulsbo. They later were divorced.
Mr. Ward worked as a pipefitter and welder for 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his former wife, Mary Pitts of Silverdale; three sons, Tom Jr. of Seabeck, Rex of Bremerton and Mike of Shelton; a daughter, Kim of Bremerton; two brothers, Ernie of West Jordan, Utah, and Jerry Hoepfer of Idaho; a sister, Gloria Burkholder of Florida; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Scott.
A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Mt. View cemetery in Silverdale. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation and Burial Society.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.

Wayne Nelson
Wayne H. Nelson, 53, of Poulsbo died Sept. 4, 2000, at his home.
He was born Sept. 18, 1946, in Bremerton to Walter and Marie (Birkland) Nelson. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1964.
Mr. Nelson served in the Marine Corps from 1968 to 1971. He was a sergeant, receiving a Purple Heart and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with palm.
He was a member of the Poulsbo Veterans of Foreign Wars and had attended Vinland Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. He enjoyed baseball.
Survivors include a daughter, Ereika Nelson of Massachusetts; two sisters, Jeanne Jorgensen of Port Ludlow and Delores Crowell of Suquamish; and one granddaughter.
A memorial service with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Evelyn Vavrick
Evelyn Marie Vavrick, 78, of Bremerton died Aug. 21, 2000, at her home.
She was born May 9, 1922, in Oakes, N.D., to Christian and Clara Jensen.
She married Robert Vavrick on March 8, 1947, in Bremerton. She was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing.
She is survived by her husband.
Cremation is under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove, with arrangements by Lewis Funeral Home.

Leo Cook
Leo V. Cook, 86, of Bremerton died Sept. 6, 2000, in Port Orchard.
He was born June 21, 1914, in Letcher, S.D., to Charles and Sarah (Ketchum) Cook.
He married Bernice Schoening on Sept. 14, 1946, in Bremerton. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Mr. Cook was a welder at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 32 years, retiring in 1972.
He enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise Marks of Pescadero, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Terry, in 1993, two brothers and three sisters.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton.

Janet Mason
Former Bremerton resident Janet M. Mason, 44, of Ledyard, Conn., died of leukemia Sept. 3, 2000, at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Conn.
She was born Sept. 30, 1955, in Oakland, Calif., to Rulon D. McArthur and Yvonne Bennett of Missoula, Mont.
She married VerrDon Holbrook Mason on May 4, 1978, in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Temple in Salt Lake City.
Mrs. Mason was a homemaker. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having been active in the Silverdale Fourth Ward and in the church's relief society.
Survivors include her husband, Navy Capt. Don Mason; four sons, Thomas and VerrDon, both of Provo, Utah, and Brian and Steven, both of Ledyard; two daughters, Melissa of Provo and Bethany of Ledyard; her mother; a sister, JoDell Haverfield of Lolo, Mont.; and a stepbrother, James McArthur of Polson, Mont.
A funeral service was held Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mystic, Conn., with burial at Avery Stoddard cemetery in Gales Ferry, Conn.
Memorial donations may be made to National Hemophiliac Foundation, 116 W. 32nd St., 11th floor, New York, N.Y. 10001.

Muffy Azure
Noella "Muffy" Azure, 53, died from complications of diabetes Sept. 1, 2000, in Bremerton.
She was born June 28, 1947, in Bottineau, N.D., to Raymond and Ella (Sharrett) Casavant.
She graduated in 1966 from Port Townsend High School.
She married Stanley Galen in 1966 in Port Townsend. They were divorced in 1970.
She married Glen "Chief" Azure in 1977. He preceded her in death in 1983.
She was a flagger until her retirement in 1992 and was fond of bingo and travel.
She is survived by one brother, Newell Casavant, of Port Townsend; five sisters, Lillian Strange of Kingston, Annabell Roberts of Port Hadlock; Darlene Lashua of Sequim; Orissa McGlothen of Washougal; and Christina Goldberg of Tucson.
Visitation was held Tuesday at Kosec Funeral Home. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday also at Kosec Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Laurel Grove cemetery in Port Townsend.
Memorial donations may be made to Olympic Peninsula Kidney Center, 2743 Claire Ave., Bremerton, WA 98310.

Ernie Salo
Eino J. "Ernie" Salo, 79, of Bremerton died Sept. 4, 2000, in Bremerton.
He was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Minnesota. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps prior to World War II and in the Navy as a machinist from 1941 to 1945.
Mr. Salo started work at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1941, retiring in 1976. He was a rigger at PSNS and later was a sailmaker.
He was a ski instructor with the Chief Kitsap Ski School and a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie; two sons, Greg of Bremerton and Paul of Seattle; a daughter, Nona Napper of Arizona; a brother, Tauno of Seinajoki, Finland; his former wife, Jan Gee of Bremerton; and nine grandchildren.
A memorial reception is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at Canterbury Manor in Bremerton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Tacoma Orthopedic Association for Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 5299, Tacoma, WA 98415-0299 or to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383.

Mimi Heinrich
Former Bremerton resident Mary Ann "Mimi" Heinrich, 70, of Tumwater died of cancer Sept. 2, 2000, at her home.
She was born June 16, 1930, in Bremerton to Fred and Mabelle (Wardell) Coulter. She graduated in 1948 from Bremerton High School.
She married Hank Heinrich on Oct. 20, 1950. They later divorced.
She was a homemaker and an accountant with South Sound Options in Olympia.
She was a member of the Artesian Synchronized Swimming Team at the YMCA in Olympia and enjoyed spending time with family, friends and her Boston Terrier, "Toby."
Survivors include her former husband; two daughters, Nancy Foley of Olympia and Janet Knight of Spokane; a sister, Nancy Coulter of Oakland, Calif.; and eight grandchildren.
A celebration of life is scheduled from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the South Union Grange Hall, 10030 Tilley Road South in Olympia. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

Ruby Burchfield
Ruby R. Burchfield, 86, of Bremerton died Sept. 3, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 7, 1914, in McKinock, N.D., to Thomas and Gena (Haugen) Lieberg.
She was division manager at the Sears Department Store in Bremerton.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Burton and Kathleen (Burchfield) Hart, both of Bremerton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, in 1967, and by a brother, Lloyd Lieberg.
Private services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 11th Street and Veneta Avenue, Bremerton, WA 98337.

Dorothy Eggert
Dorothy E. Eggert, 88, of Port Townsend died of natural causes Sept. 5, 2000, in Port Townsend.
She was born Aug. 16, 1912, in Aurora, Ill., to George S. and Lillian (McKown) Miller.
She married Emil R. Eggert on April 30, 1932, in Aurora. He preceded her in death in July.
Mrs. Eggert was a homemaker. She enjoyed reading and family gatherings.
Survivors include three sons, Robert of Buena Park, Calif., David of Omak and John of Paradise, Calif.; three daughters, Nancy Lake of Pahoa, Hawaii, Mary Ronen of Port Ludlow and Linda Pudwill of Kapaa, Hawaii; 16 grandchildren,
21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel, with a funeral service following at 2 p.m. Interment icon will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.

Frenchy Foucher
Francis Bernard "Frenchy" Foucher, 61, of Port Orchard died of a heart attack Sept. 4, 2000, at his home.
He was born July 5, 1939, in Detroit to Francis J. and Josephine Foucher. He graduated from high school in San Diego in 1958.
Mr. Foucher served in the Navy from 1958 to 1962. He was a boiler technician third class.
He later worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 31 years, retiring in 1993, as a reactor plant general foreman.
He married Vivian Brandt on Aug. 4, 1999, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Foucher was a member of the Farmers Market Association in Port Orchard and enjoyed golfing. He was a member of North Mason United Methodist Church in Belfair.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Grass Valley, Calif.; two sons, Jason and Michael, both of Port Orchard; two daughters, Janice "Lynne" Foucher of Port Orchard and Kimberli Miller of Bremerton; five stepsons, Paul and Bill Keyser, both of Grass Valley, Bob Keyser of Penn Valley, Calif., Joe Keyser of Texas and Rich Keyser of Iowa; a stepdaughter, Lou Ann Keyser of Hawaii; a brother, Albert Sears of Yuma, Ariz.; a sister, Louise Morley of Grass Valley; and 13 grandchildr en. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 39 years, Janice, in 1998, and a brother, Darnell.
A memorial service is planned for 7:30 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard.
