Clarence Strahm
Clarence W. Strahm, 78, of Hansville died April 28, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 24, 1921, in Dixie to John U. and Laura Ellen Strahm. He grew up in Seattle, graduating from Highline High School there in 1939.
He married Ruth Hussey on June 29, 1940, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Mr. Strahm was a steamfitter primarily out of the Los Angeles Steamfitter's Union Local 250. He retired in 1978.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Chuck of Mission Viejo, Calif.; two daughters, Patricia Allen of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Sandra Voves of Hansville; one brother, William Strahm of Loveland, Colo.; one sister, Marie Woodward of San Francisco; six grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
At his request, there will be no services. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County or to Kitsap District 14 Firefighters Association, P.O. Box 134, Hansville, WA 98340.

Eugene Austrom
Former Bremerton resident Eugene Austrom, 87, of Juneau, Alaska, died April 30, 2000, in Juneau.
He was born June 2, 1913, in Breidablik near Poulsbo.
He was a fisherman for many years. Later, he was a rigger in Shop 72 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1971.
His wife, Elizabeth P. (Hennicke) Austrom, preceded him in death in 1980. Survivors include one son, Richard of Bremerton; one daughter, Pamela Mengel of Cambridge, Idaho; one granddaughter, Melody of Bremerton; and his companion, Frances Snyder of Juneau.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Joseph Carini
Joseph Michael Carini, 48, of Port Orchard died April 26, 2000, at his home of brain cancer.
He was born June 1, 1951, in Baltimore, Md., to Joseph and Rose (Beck) Carini. He grew up in Baltimore, graduating from Kenwood High School there in 1970.
He married Susie Wood on May 31, 1996, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Carini served in the Navy from 1970 to 1974, achieving the rank of second class petty officer. He was stationed aboard USS Patrick Henry as an interior communications specialist.
He was a marine electrician at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 26 years.
Survivors include his wife; his father; one stepson, John Zimmerer of Bremerton; one stepdaughter, Bonnie Turner of Bremerton; two brothers, Ben Carini of Jarrettsville, Md., and Frank Carini of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one sister, Toni Chafin of Chesapeake, Va.; and three grandchildren, Dakota Walthall of Bremerton and John and Nicholas Turner, both of Lakeland, Fla. He was preceded in death by his mother in 1999.
At his request, no funeral service is planned. A memorial and celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a medical emergency account at the Bethel branch of Peninsula Community Federal Credit Union in Port Orchard.

John Harnett
John A. Harnett, 60, of Bremerton died April 27, 2000, at Harrison Hospital of cancer.
He was born May 26, 1939, in Portsmouth, Va., to Dick and Ellen (Linberg) Harnett. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from East High School in 1957, and attending Olympic College from 1958 to 1959.
He married Eileen Sprenger on June 16, 1962, in Bremerton.
Mr. Harnett served in the Coast Guard from 1958 to 1966, stationed in Seattle.
He was a firefighter with the Bremerton Fire Department for 33 years, retiring in 1999.
He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters, the Washington State Council of Firefighters, AFL-CIO Local 437 and the Firefighters Pension and Disability Board.
Survivors include his wife; one son, John Jr. of Bremerton; two daughters, Heidi Harnett-Wakefield of Bremerton and Brooke Harnett-Acuff of Snohomish; one brother, James of Seattle; one sister, Janelle Oswalt of Utah; and one grandchild, Taylor Acuff of Snohomish.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. May 9 at Crossroads Neighborhood Church in Bremerton. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.

Allan Kadra
Allan Robert Kadra, 64, of Belfair died April 26, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 24, 1936, in Boston to Peter and Annie (Kell) Kadra. He graduated from high school there in 1953.
He began work at NUWES Keyport in 1963, retiring in 1986 as a toolmaker foreman.
He is survived by his wife, Betty (Shearer) Kadra, whom he married April 3, 1982, in Belfair.
Other survivors include a son, Cory Allan Michaels of Bremerton; two stepsons, Allan Shearer and Tom Shearer, both of Belfair; two daughters, Annie Borgens of Bremerton and Debbie (Ellis) Wells of Belfair; a stepdaughter, Kim (Shearer) Beckett of Bremerton; four sisters Norma Maher, Marilee Mulvey, Janet Clark and Jessie Reynolds, all of Massachusetts; 25 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Julie (Kadra) Tuscher, in 1990 and a brother, Peter, in 1994.
A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. today at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair with interment at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park in Bremerton.

Michael Schilling
Michael Schilling, 43, of Port Orchard died April 28, 2000, at University of Washington Medical Center.
He was born March 21, 1957, in Lansing, Mich., to Rex and Marjorie (Bruns) Schilling. He grew up in South Kitsap.
He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1975 and Olympic College in 1985.
He married Teri Michener on Sept. 3, 1976, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Schilling worked as a planner estimator at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years.
He was a member of the Jim Snow Sailing Club.
He is survived by his wife; his parents, now of Shelton; two sons, Jason of Pullman and Nathan of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Chantel Smith of Port Orchard; two brothers, Charles of Tacoma and John of Vacaville, Calif.; and a sister, Ruth Morgan of Vancouver, Wash. He was preceded in death by a son, Brent, in 1979.
A visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at South Kitsap Presbyterian Church.
A private burial will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kitsap County Habitat for Humanity, 1700 Mile Hill Drive, Port Orchard, WA 98366.

Bob Olsen
Frank Robert "Bob" Olsen, 77, of Belfair died of liver failure April 27, 2000, at his home.
He was born Oct. 13, 1922, in Akiak, Alaska, to Benjamin "Frank" and Florence (Carlson) Olsen. He was raised on Mercer Island.
He graduated from Garfield High School in Seattle in 1939 and from Washington State University in 1941. He enlisted in the Army in 1941 and was discharged in 1945.
He married Betty J. Beers on Oct. 30, 1945, in Issaquah.
Mr. Olsen was retired from his job as an electronics engineer, and was a member of an amateur radio society with the call letters W7DZO.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Betsy Childers of Kingston and Peggy Davis of Bremerton; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Perez.
Arrangements are being handled by Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Kay Hamren
Kay Hamren, 73, of Boise, Idaho, died April 27, 2000, at St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise of complications from cancer surgery.
She was born July 13, 1926, in Tacoma to Walter and Teresa Spencer. She grew up in the Seattle area.
She worked at military aircraft development facilities in San Diego and Hawaii during and after World War II. She later worked as a bookkeeper in Bremerton and Port Orchard before retiring and moving to Boise in 1992.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara Hunt of Texas and Terri Thomas of Oxnard, Calif.; a son, Steve Hamren of Boise; a brother, Chuck Spencer of Virginia; six grandchildren, Susan and Audrey Moss, both of Texas, Jaimie and Chelsea Thomas, both of Oxnard, Calif., and Tracy and Mark Hamren, both of Boise.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel in Boise.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association or the charity of your choice.

Ted Engebretson
Former Bremerton resident Ted E. Engebretson, 82, of Bellingham died April 21, 2000, in Bellingham.
He was born Nov. 4, 1917, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Sherman and Sadie (Edris) Engebretson. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from South Kitsap High School in 1936.
Mr. Engebretson served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948. He received the World War II Victory Medal.
He and his wife, Gladys, were married in September 1965 in Bremerton.
Mr. Engebretson worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 35 years, retiring in 1974 as a planner/estimator.
He was a member of the Bremerton Yacht Club and Memorial Lutheran Church in Bremerton.
He is survived by his wife. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Engebretson and by a sister, Verna Larson.
A graveside service will be conducted by Memorial Lutheran Church at 1 p.m. May 11 at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park, with a reception following.

Gladys Tucker
Gladys M. Tucker, 92, of Port Orchard died April 27, 2000, at her home.
She was born March 5, 1908, in Brewster, Wash.
She married James E. "Jim" Tucker in Tacoma.
She was employed as an inspector by the Air Force Air Corps in Sacramento, Calif., during World War II. Later, she worked as a waitress, a cook and as a business representative for the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees Union, Local 8.
Survivors include her husband; one son, John Tucker of Silverdale; one daughter, Judi Banks of Arizona; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Tuell-McKee of Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to Harrison Home Health, 2520 Cherry Ave., Bremerton, WA 98310.

Marguerite Reischman
Marguerite E. Reischman, 84, a resident of the Grapeview area for 23 years, died April 26, 2000, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 27, 1915, in Frances, Wash.
She had worked as an administrative assistant at the Frances Haddon Morgan Center in Bremerton.
She was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair and the Stitchery Guild of Grapeview.
Survivors include her husband, John; three sons, Jack of Yuma, Ariz., Dick of Grapeview and Steve of Port Orchard; three daughters, Janice Marks of Belfair, Alice Esler of Grapeview and Vickie Ertler of Gig Harbor; one sister, Narcissa Green of Seattle; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 1171 Sand Hill Road. Arrangements are under the direction of Haven of Rest in Gig Harbor.
Memorial donations may be made to Scholarship Fund, Prince of Peace Catholic Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
