William Barnett
William Michael Barnett, 42, of Bremerton died of a heart attack Sept. 25, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born March 2, 1959, in Fort Belvoir, Va., to William Raymond Barnett and Frances Josephine Walls. He graduated in 1977 from Shannon High School in Tupelo, Miss.
Mr. Barnett served in the Navy from 1982 to 1996, achieving the rank of petty officer first class. He was awarded the Navy Achievement Medal and three Good Conduct Medals.
He later worked with the United States Postal Service.
He married Alezandra M. Tigranes on Feb. 12, 1988, in Olongapo City, Philippines.
Mr. Barnett enjoyed fishing and playing darts. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife; his father of Tupelo; his mother of Daleville, Ala.; two sons, James and Kristian, both of Bremerton; two brothers, Thomas of Chicago and Robert of Tupelo; two sisters, Jennifer Maroney of Orlando, Fla., and Peggy Watts of Daleville.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, also at Miller-Woodlawn.

Agnes Correia
Agnes Correia, 75, of Bremerton died of natural causes Sept. 25, 2001, at her home.
She was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Fairhaven, Mass., to Joseph and Mary Botelho. She graduated from high school in Fairhaven.
She married John Correia on July 26, 1945, in New Albany, Ind.
Mrs. Correia worked at Castle's Pharmacy and Payless Drug Stores in Bremerton for more 20 years. She retired in 1985.
She enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was a member of Our Lady Star Of The Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include her husband; one son, John Jr. of Bremerton; many brothers and sisters; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Steven.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Our Lady Star of The Sea Catholic Church. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady Star Of The Sea Catholic Church, with a graveside service following at Ivy Green cemetery in Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.

Roxanne Sanford Dodrill
Former Bremerton resident Roxanne Sanford Dodrill, 41, of Spokane died Sept. 26, 2001, in Spokane.
She was born March 11, 1960, in Long Beach, Calif., to Clyde and Susanne Sanford.
She worked in geriatric care and recently earned her license to open an adult family home in Spokane.
She enjoyed dogs and horses.
Survivors include her fiance, Rip Morgan of Spokane; one son, Jeremy LaBelle of Spokane; her mother, Susanne Huyler now of Spokane; her father and stepmother, Clyde and Patricia Sanford of Bremerton; two brothers, Andy and Gary, both of California; and her grandmother, Helen Sanford of Utah.
A service will be held at a later date in Spokane.

Paul Pfister
Paul A. Pfister Sr., 88, of Port Orchard died of natural causes Sept. 26, 2001, in Lakewood.
He was born July 14, 1913, in Philadelphia to Ludwig and Rose (Peters) Pfister.
He married Caroline Safranek on Dec. 11, 1942, in New York City. She preceded him in death in 2000.
Mr. Pfister served in the Navy from 1938 to 1946, achieving the rank of petty officer first class.
He was a Teamster for 30 years before retiring.
Mr. Pfister enjoyed playing golf and art. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include three sons, Edward of Coral Gables, Fla., Paul Jr. of Salinas, Calif.; and John of Chico, Calif.; four daughters, Margaret Panico of Federal Way, Rose Marie Lewis of Cloverdale, Ind., Carole Ann Clague of Shasta Lake, Calif. and Regina Marie Orgazan of Port Orchard; one brother, Louis of Cherry Hill, N.J.; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
A private family memorial will be held at
St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Amy Sevedge
Amy E. Sevedge, 96, of Bremerton died of natural causes Sept. 20, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born May 13, 1905, in Colville to Perry and Minnie Bowns.
She married Wallace Sevedge. He preceded her in death in 1958.
Mrs. Sevedge was a medical office worker in Seattle.
She enjoyed reading and was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Helen Groth
Helen Elizabeth (McDonald) Groth, 83, of Bremerton died Sept. 18, 2001, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born Dec. 17, 1917, in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., to Lawrence and Elizabeth (Cowley) McDonald. She graduated from high school in Wilkes-Barre and from Robert Packer School of Nursing in Scranton, Penn., in 1941.
She was a registered nurse in the Army Air Corps during World War II, achieving the rank of lieutenant.
She married C. Dean Groth on Dec. 1, 1943, in Miami.
Mrs. Groth was an office manager for her husband's business. She enjoyed dancing and boating.
Survivors include her husband; one son, John of San Rafael, Calif.; one daughter, Jean Grover of Gig Harbor; one stepdaughter, Cheri Louden of Weston, Ore.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary McDonald; and two brothers, Andrew and Robert McDonald.
Private services will be held.
Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Washington State Chapter, 12721 30th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98125.

Angela Champneys
Angela Dee Champneys, 17, of Port Orchard died Sept. 24, 2001, at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following an automobile accident Friday in Port Orchard.
She was born Oct. 6, 1983, in Tacoma. She was a senior at South Kitsap High School.
She was involved in the Advanced Sports Medicine Program at SKHS, and also participated in softball, basketball and swimming.
She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her father, David Champneys of Port Orchard; her mother and stepfather, Teresa and Ronald Evans of Port Orchard; two brothers, Rodney and Randy Fitch, both of Port Orchard; two sisters, Lisa Fort of Port Orchard and Denise Climer of Fort Lewis; her maternal grandparents, Don and Virginia Villaire of Port Orchard; and her paternal grandfather, C.E. Champneys of Pocatello, Idaho.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the auditorium at South Kitsap High School. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Angela Champneys Scholarship Fund, c/o South Kitsap High School, 425 Mitchell Ave., Port Orchard, WA 98366.

Jean Bitterman
Jean M. Bitterman, 64, of Port Orchard died of natural causes Sept. 22, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Feb. 10, 1937, in Hazen, N.D., to Christ and Pauline (Miller) Knoell. She graduated from Hazen High School and from Dickinson State University in Dickinson, N.D.
She married Albert Bitterman on June 25, 1961, in Hazen.
Mrs. Bitterman taught at Orchard Heights Elementary School in Port Orchard for more than 30 years until her retirement.
She enjoyed spending time with her family and reading.
Survivors include one son, Scott of Olalla; one daughter, Barbara Haugen of Huntington Beach, Calif.; one brother, Lawrence Knoell of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Knoell in 2000; and a sister, Irene Baier in 1998.
At her request, no service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Virginia Phillips
Virginia Delores Phillips, 79, died Sept. 22, 2001, at her Port Orchard residence.
She was born Jan. 5, 1922, in Boise, Idaho, to Fred and Martha (Smith) Bouchee.
She was a homemaker and also managed a bookstore. She enjoyed traveling and was an amateur doll collecter.
She was a Christian.
Survivors include her companion, Ed Krazel of Port Orchard; a son, Dennis McBride of Belfair; two daughters, Cherie Nettles of Fox Island and Rena Pagaduan of Gig Harbor; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Virginia Lee Arthur; two sisters, Alta Strom and Zelpha Fatapolis; and a brother, Glen Billman.
Visitation and vigil will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, with a funeral service immediately following. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383.

Mildred Strawn
Mildred Miriam Strawn, 95, of Bremerton died Sept. 25, 2001, at Myeon Adult Care Home in Bremerton.
She was born Nov. 4, 1905, in Poulsbo to Edward and Anna (Lundquist) Tegstrom. She was educated in Poulsbo.
She married William H. Strawn in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1964.
She was a homemaker and caregiver.
Mrs. Strawn was a member of the First Baptist Church in Bremerton and Gideon's International.
Survivors include three nieces, Nancy Edmonds of Bremerton, Elaine Woodland of Silverdale and Patricia Patnoe of Honolulu.
A memorial service will be included during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday at First Baptist Church of Bremerton.
Memorial donations may be made to Mount View cemetery Association, 16154 Virginia Point Road, Poulsbo, WA 98370.

Eugene Stokes
Eugene Richard Stokes, 72, of Port Orchard died of prostate cancer Sept. 22, 2001, in Port Orchard.
He was born Jan. 11, 1929, in Romeo, Mich., to Theodore and Sadie (Stokes) Sulkowski. He graduated in 1947 from Romeo High School.
He married Norma Green on Aug. 5, 1947, in Romeo.
Mr. Stokes was a block mason for 45 years, retiring in 1990.
He enjoyed antique cars and coaching baseball. He was an Episcopalian.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard of Port Orchard; four daughters, Gena Stokes and Sheri Seratt, both of Port Orchard, and Diane Stokes and Christine Wright, both of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Robert Sulkowski of St. Louis, Mo.; one sister, Deloris Siebenschuh of Detroit; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
At the family's request, no service is planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Crematory.
