Joaquin Quinene Jr.
Joaquin Mata Quinene Jr., 28, of Silverdale died of natural causes May 11, 2001, in Silverdale.
He was born May 13, 1972, in Piti, Guam, to Joaquin Mata and Daling (Ignacio) Quinene.
He is survived by his parents of Columbia, S.C.; a sister, Vanessa Pangilinan of Columbia; and his paternal grandparents, Jose and Ana Mata Quinene of Port Orchard.
Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel, with a rosary from 8 to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Palmer Memorial Chapel in Columbia. Interment icon will be at Elmwood cemetery in Columbia.

Larry Rodenberger
Larry Edward Rodenberger, 63, of Port Orchard died of cancer May 8, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Oct. 24, 1937, in Bellingham to Claude and Myrtle (Lewis) Rodenberger.
He married Bernice "Carol" Petersen on May 29, 1967.
Mr. Rodenberger was a machinist at salmon canneries in Alaska.
He enjoyed fishing for trout on Kitsap Lake and growing vegetables for the Port Orchard Farmers Market.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Kathie Pittser of Port Orchard; three stepsons, James Meddock of Kenosha, Wis., Charles Meddock of Kennewick and Patrick Meddock of Spokane; two stepdaughters, Sharon Youderian of Bremerton and Donna Rae Yeager of Shelton; two sisters, Kathie Jefferies of Oak Harbor and Toni Stewart of Mount Vernon; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dale, in 1983 and a stepson, Edward Dufrene in 1990.
A memorial service will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Christian Life Church in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Fraola cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Funeral Home in Shelton.

Jack Schindler
Jack Thomas "Tiny" Schindler, 55, of Silverdale died May 12, 2001, at his home.
He was born May 19, 1945, in Baltimore, Md., to John and Louise (Meurer) Schindler.
He married Marilyn Lund on Feb. 8, 1991, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Schindler served as a sergeant in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
He worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1973 to 1996, retiring as a foreman pipefitter.
Mr. Schindler enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Christopher of Port Orchard, Shawn of Bremerton and Aaron of Port Gamble; two daughters, Brittinae and Meagan Sollars, both of Silverdale; a sister, Martha Parker of Port Orchard; and seven grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Storehouse Church, 19851 Viking Ave. NW in Poulsbo. Call (360) 779-6460 for directions. Private interment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.
Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Malcolm Johnson
Malcolm Allen Johnson, 24, of Bangor died May 3, 2001, in Bangor.
He was born March 11, 1977, in Fairfield, Calif., to Kenneth and Lourdita (Cajepe) Johnson. He graduated in 1995 from Texas High School in Texarkana, Texas, and attended college in Sacramento, Calif.
He married Tanya Seui.
Mr. Johnson had served in the Navy. He participated in track and football.
Survivors include his wife; his parents of Texarkana; his twin brother, Aaron of Camden, N.J.; and two brothers, Kenneth Jr. of Sacramento and Charles of Texarkana.
A memorial service will be held in Texarkana at a later date. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Crematory with local arrangements by Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Annemarie Sauerlander
Annemarie Sauerlander, 95, of Poulsbo died of natural causes May 11, 2001, at Martha & Mary Health Care Center in Poulsbo.
She was born Oct. 29, 1905, in Alsace Lorraine, France, to Hans and Gertrude (Sahla) Sauerlander. She graduated in 1926 from the University of Buffalo in Buffalo, N.Y., and in 1928 from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y.
She was a professor at the University of Buffalo and the University of Washington. She retired in 1980.
She enjoyed music and was a member of the Suquamish Community Congregational United Church of Christ.
Cremation is under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.

Eleanor Itschner
Eleanor Itschner, 91, of Bremerton died of Alzheimer's disease May 14, 2001, at Ashley Gardens in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 27, 1909, in Seattle to Clarence and Florence (Field) Corey. She graduated in 1927 from Roosevelt High School in Seattle and in 1931 from the University of Washington .
She married Lt. Gen. Emerson Itschner on Jan. 30, 1932, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Mrs. Itschner enjoyed playing bridge and gardening.
Her survivors include three daughters, Carol Hamilton of Bremerton, Ann Carratt of Seattle and Gail Smith of McLean, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
At her request, there will be no service. Inurnment will be at Willamette National cemetery in Portland, Ore. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Margaret Winkler
Margaret Eva Winkler, 79, died May 9, 2001, at her Bremerton residence.
She was born June 28, 1921, in Anacortes to Willard and Avon (Baker) Childs. She graduated in 1939 from Boscobel High School in Boscobel, Wis.
She worked at Oyster Company in Shelton and for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
She was a member of Shelton First Christian Church and Central Kitsap Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Gerald Spiker of Bremerton; two sisters, Wilma Kuhns of Concrete and Prudence Mondhan of Anacortes; five grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Spiker in 1966; her second husband, Francis Winkler in 1994; a daughter, Jeanette Myers; and two sisters, Dorothy Norgaard and Marion Johnson.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Central Kitsap Christian Church in Bremerton. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation by Cherry Grove Crematory.

Calvin Coleman
Calvin D. Coleman, 77, of Port Orchard died following a brief illness May 1, 2001, in Seattle.
He was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Harris, Minn., to Ernest and Jennie (Peterson) Coleman. He graduated in 1941 from Roosevelt High School in Seattle and in 1947 from the University of Minnesota.
He served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War and achieved the rank of captain. He was awarded the Air Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
He later was a captain with United Airlines for 32 years, retiring in 1983.
Mr. Coleman was a member of the Retired United Pilots Association.
Survivors include two daughters, Christi Arnold of Ellensburg and Marnie Coleman of Auburn, Maine; a sister, Maxine Sickler of Magnolia, Calif.; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his former wife, Dale Coleman of Ellensburg; and a brother, James of Minneapolis.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Museum of Flight, 9404 East Marginal Way S., Seattle, WA 98108.

Dorothy Heltemes
Dorothy Lucille Heltemes, 70, of Belfair died of diabetes May 9, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 23, 1931, in Sauk Rapids, Minn., to August and Emma (Mendel) Trushenski. She graduated in 1949 from Foley High School in Foley, Minn.
On June 8, 1953, she married James L. Heltemes in St. Cloud, Minn. He preceded her in death in 1999.
She was a cook at the Belfair Cafe and the Allyn Inn Restaurant.
She enjoyed being a foster parent and cake-decorating. Mrs. Heltemes was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair.
Survivors include two sons, Robert and Gary, both of Seattle; a daughter, Lori Edgar of Seattle; two brothers, Clarence of Cass Lake, Minn., and Eugene of Sauk Rapids; and one grandchild. She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor Nagy and Irene Trushenski; and two brothers, Martin and Howard.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Belfair. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Washington Affiliate, 557 Roy St., Seattle, WA 98109.

Earl Larson
Earl M. Larson, 82, of Port Orchard died May 13, 2001, in Bremerton.
He was born Jan. 23, 1919, in Douglas, N.D., to Andrew and Gertrude (Dunlap) Larson. He attended Minot Business Institute in Minot, N.D.
He served in the Army Air Corps as a paratrooper from 1942 to 1946. He was awarded the Victory Medal Silver Award and the Good Conduct Medal.
Mr. Larson later was a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years, retiring in 1972.
He enjoyed bowling and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2669.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Zaccagnini); three sons, James of Port Orchard, Glen of Tigard, Ore., and Kenneth of New York; three brothers, Glenn of Denver, Colo., Luverne of Minot and Arlo of Mountlake Terrace; two sisters, Alva Trueblood and Ethel Larson of Issaquah; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Mert, Edmond, Albert, Harlan, Clifford and Danzle; and three sisters, Bertha, Maxine and Birdie.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Friday, also at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Haven of Rest cemetery in Gig Harbor.
Memorial donations may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 2815 Burwell Ave., Bremerton, WA 98310.

Rodney Ison
Rodney V. Ison, 59, of Belfair died of cancer May 12, 2001, at home.
He was born Feb. 8, 1942, in Placerville, Calif., to Carl and Virginia (Collins) Ison.
He served in the Army from 1959 to 1962.
He married Patricia Chichester on Dec. 7, 1963, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Ison was a transportation supervisor at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 34 years, retiring in 1999.
He enjoyed woodworking and was a member of the Masonic Lodge 288.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael of Gig Harbor and James of Belfair; a daughter, Julie Farrell of Belfair; four brothers, Gary of Juneau, Alaska, D. Lee of Belfair, Carl "Joe" of Bremerton and Timothy of San Jose; and one grandchild.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel. Interment icon will be at Haven of Rest cemetery in Gig Harbor.
Memorial donations may be made to Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice, 2146 Railroad Ave., Shelton, WA.

John Philip McGinty
John Philip McGinty, 85, of Poulsbo died May 10 at Grays Harbor Health & Rehab in Aberdeen.
He was born March 17, 1916 in Grano, N.D., to Christopher and Minnie (Fredrickson) McGinty. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1934.
He married Alma Burgman in 1938 in Olympia. She preceded him in death in 1990.
Mr. McGinty worked for the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 33 years. He retired as head of the Nuclear Supply Department in 1973.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters, Sharon Bacon of Quincy and Colleen Reddick of Ocean Shores; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Rosemary Jay and Maryann Anderson, both of Poulsbo.
Mr. McGinty's brother, Frank, and sister, Viola Nyland, preceded him in death.
Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Tuesday at the Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park, 22272 Foss Road NE in Poulsbo.
He will be interred at the Poulsbo City Cemetary.
