Phyllis Hart
Phyllis M. Hart, 78, of Bremerton died Dec. 27, 2001, at home.
She was born Nov. 22, 1923, in Seattle to Marley and Ernestine (Lider) Herbert. She was a 1941 graduate of South Kitsap High School.
She married Ralph D. Hart on Dec. 6, 1941, in Gig Harbor. He preceded her in death in 1992.
She was an electrical parts assembler at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of the Port Orchard Eagles and a tap dance club in Arizona. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with friends and relatives. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Linda Hart of Bremerton; two daughters, Karen and her husband, Bob Wheeler, of Poulsbo and Carol and her husband, Larry; a sister, Mary Jeanette Herbert of Bremerton; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
An open house for family and friends will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the home of her son. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Ave. N., Seattle, WA 98103.

Mary-Rowland Davies
Mary-Rowland Davies, 66, of Silverdale died of ischemic bowel syndrome Dec. 17, 2001, at Naval Hospital Bremerton.
She was born May 4, 1935, in Manila, Philippines, to Edward E. and Mary Rowland (Carter) Bomar. She graduated in 1952 from Woodrow Wilson High School in Washington, D.C. She also attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Md.
She married Peter Gale Davies on May 2, 1981, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. He preceded her in death in 1990.
Mrs. Davies was a homemaker and former business owner-operator.
At the time of her death, she was president of the Bremerton Symphony League. She also served as treasurer of the league and as chaplain for Chapter CG of the PEO Sisterhood.
Survivors include a son, Sam Paige of Salem, Ore.; two daughters, Lolana Grace Fontaign of Boise, Idaho, and Rebecca Lynn Paige of Vancouver, Wash.; a brother, Edward E. Bomar III of Bainbridge Island; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church in Bremerton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the "Mary-Rowland Davies Musical Scholarship For Olympic College, " c/o

Joy Bales
Joy M. Bales, 79, of Bremerton died Dec. 23, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Nov. 13, 1922, in Fairbury, Neb., to Elmus and Ada (Abbott) Seachord.
She married Edward Bales on March 23, 1940, in Washington, Kan. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Bales was a homemaker. She enjoyed square dancing and camping.
Survivors include a son, Robert E. Bales and his wife, Joan, of Bremerton; a daughter, Joyce Lundquist and her husband, Terry, of McMinnville, Ore.; two sisters, Dottie Ahrens of Tacoma and Shirley Shattun of Port Orchard; and three grandchildren.
No services are planned. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Dick Hess
Richard E. "Dick" Hess, 62, of Bremerton died of cancer Dec. 19, 2001, in Seattle.
He was born Aug. 29, 1939, in Bremerton to Simon and Aileen (Werner) Hess. He graduated in 1957 from Central Kitsap High School and in 1963 from the University of Washington.
He married Judy (Gilbert) Knight on Aug. 21, 1999, in Poulsbo. She resides in Washington and Arizona.
Mr. Hess was a civil engineer for many years, retiring in 1994.
He enjoyed boating and RVing.
Survivors include his wife; his mother; a son, Jim Hess of Bremerton; a daughter, Kathy Johnson of Gig Harbor; a sister, Janine Rinehart of Bremerton; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and his first wife, Bettie.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Satureday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society (for research only), P.O. Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98310.

Sarah Newland
Sarah Harriet Newland, 93, of Bremerton died of heart failure Dec. 27, 2001, at Bremerton Health and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Nov. 25, 1908, on Bainbridge Island to Arthur and Bertha (Anstadt) Attridge. She graduated in 1927 from Union High School in Bremerton and attended the University of Washington.
She married L. Edward Shutes in Seattle on July 3, 1928. She married her second husband, Neil Newland, on April 29, 1954, in Bremerton. He died last year.
She was the receptionist for Schutt Clinic for 10 years and later for Dr. Foster for 19 years, retiring in 1975.
She enjoyed gardening and fishing.
She was Lutheran.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon, and her husband, Ken Anderson of Bremerton; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Malcolm Shutes and Lowell Shutes, and four brothers, Winslow, Douglas, Lynn and Robert Attridge.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Bremerton. Arrangements are by Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Patti Boyle
Leona I. "Patti" Boyle, 79, of Silverdale died Dec. 26, 2001, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Nov. 8, 1922, in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Joseph and Leona (Forney) Koehler. She was a 1940 graduate of South Hills High School in Pittsburgh.
She married Joseph L. Wilson on Oct. 28, 1944, in Pittsburgh. He preceded her in death.
She married Patrick M. Boyle on Oct. 25, 1968, in Thurston County. He preceded her in death in 1997.
She was a homemaker and artist. She enjoyed golf, cards, and practical jokes.
She was Catholic.
Survivors include two sons, James C. Wilson of Belfair and Tom Wilson of Silverdale; three daughters, Patti L. Wilson of Port Orchard, Betty A. Boardway of Bremerton and Colleen M. Koenig of Cottonwood, Calif.; a brother, Edward Koehler of Oxnard, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph, and a sister, Mary.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Teria Graham
Teria Mouck Graham, 102, of Silverdale died Dec. 27, 2001, in Silverdale.
She was born March 25, 1899, in Willow Creek, Mont., to Charles and Quiteria (Tinsley) Green.
She married Leslie B. Graham in Poulsbo in 1971. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Graham had been a homemaker for more than 50 years.
She was a member of the Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild, the Eastern Star and Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo.
A memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday at Christ Memorial Church, Eighth and Hostmark in Poulsbo. Inurnment will be at Lakeview cemetery in Seattle. Arrangements are by Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Gladys Youngblood
Gladys Patricia Youngblood, 84, of Poulsbo died Dec. 26, 2001, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 19, 1917, in Seattle to Harold and Lola (Flytlie) Johnson. She graduated in 1936 from Seattle Pacific High School and attended Seattle Pacific University.
She married Frank R. Youngblood in 1964 in Port Townsend. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Youngblood owned and operated Nordland Trading Co. from 1959 to 1979. She had also served as postmaster in Nordland. She retired in 1981.
She was a member of the Sons of Norway and was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7498.
Survivors include a son, Harold E. Dill of Coupeville; two daughters, Jan Hall of Port Orchard and Patricia Groves of Poulsbo; a brother, Carl H. Johnson of Nordland; two sisters, Helen Constantine of Gig Harbor and Lillian Johnston of Seattle; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service is planned for 1 p.m. Sunday at Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel. Interment icon will take place at Sound View cemetery in Nordland.

Earl Kinney
Former Bremerton resident Earl E. Kinney, 84, of Olympia died Dec. 25, 2001, at Puget Sound Healthcare Nursing Home in Olympia.
He was born April 15, 1917, in Waterman, Wash., to Horace and Marie (Plant) Kinney. He graduated from Bremerton High School.
He served in the Army from 1941 to 1945 and in the Army Reserve until 1953, achieving the rank of master sergeant. He was awarded the American Defense Service Medal and the European, African and Middle Eastern Service medals.
He worked as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1965.
He served as Santa Claus at the old J.C. Penney store and other Bremerton-area organizations for 30 years.
He was a member of First Covenant Church in Bremerton.
Survivors include his wife, Norma T. (Tucker) Kinney of Bremerton; two daughters, Gladys Marie Kinney Rice and Rita Rae Kinney Voltine; a sister, Viola Nicklin of Port Orchard; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, James Richard Kinney and two brothers, William and Richard Kinney.
Visitation is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Gaffney Cassedy Allen and Buckley-King Mortuary at 1002 S. Yakima St., in Tacoma. A memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at First Covenant Church in Bremerton. Interment icon will take place at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to First Covenant Church, 12th and Veneta, Bremerton, WA 98310.

Lori Jean Lee
Lori Jean Lee, 45, of Poulsbo died Dec. 18, 2001, of complications of diabetes at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 13, 1956, in Newport, R.I., to Wayne and Mary Jean Hamilton. She graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1974.
She had worked for Washington State Ferries, retiring in 1999.
Survivors include a son, Brian W. Lee of San Diego; two brothers, Glenn Hamilton of Bend, Ore., and Dennis Hamilton of Yakima; and a sister, Janet Shaulis of Great Falls, Mont.
Arrangements are by Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.
