Nick Rudman
Nick A. Rudman, 87, of Bremerton died Jan. 29, 2002, of congestive heart failure at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Gary, Ind., to Anton and Anna Rudman. He attended high school in Gary.
He married Valerie M. Hays on May 29, 1954.
Mr. Rudman owned and operated Junction Equipment at Kitsap Lake for 42 years.
Previously, he had been a private contractor.
He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Radar.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert A. of Port Orchard and John of Bremerton; a daughter, Rhonda Lee of Poulsbo; two stepsons, Roger Hays of Kennewick and Richard Hays of Camas; and a sister, Rose Cunningham of Sodona, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Bob.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Kitsap Cremation & Burial Society.

Arthur Ricke
Arthur August Ricke, 83, of Silverdale died Feb. 3, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born July 18, 1918, in New York City to Otto August and Helena Beatrice (Wisncska) Ricke. He graduated from high school in Bronx, N.Y., and from the University of California in Riverside, Calif., in 1957.
He married Leone E. Sprague on Oct. 22, 1944, in Riverside. She died in 1993.
Mr. Ricke served in the Army from 1940 to 1946, achieving the rank of technical sergeant. He later worked for Del Monte Foods Hawaiian Punch Division as a quality control manager until his retirement.
He loved music and played many musical instruments proficiently.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include a son, Raymond A., and his wife, Rose, of Big Bear Lake, Calif.; a daughter, Marilynne A. Jackman of Poulsbo; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edwin.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 16 at Forest Lawn cemetery in Long Beach, Calif. Arrangements are under the direction of Poulsbo Mortuary, The Stone Chapel.

Roland Sampson
Roland Frank Sampson, 93, of Port Orchard died Jan. 24, 2002, of congestive heart failure at his home.
He was born Oct. 26, 1908, in Yakima to Owen and Mammie (Gibson) Sampson.
He married Helen M. Smith on Jan. 26, 1933, in Yakima. She died in 1993.
Mr. Sampson was a shipfitter at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years, retiring in 1968.
He enjoyed traveling.
Survivors include three sons, Raymond D. and Jay D., both of Port Orchard, and Seth O. of Burien; three daughters, Carol Hiett of Ranburne, Ala., Gail Coleman of Port Orchard and Ruth Roppe of Dayton, Ohio; two brothers, Bill of Spokane and Larry of Rochester; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Don.

Betts Harris
Betty A. "Betts" Harris, 67, of Port Orchard died of cancer Feb. 5, 2002, at her home.
She was born Oct. 23, 1934, in Yatesboro, Pa., to John and Wilda (Hollis) Harris. She graduated in 1952 from Palmer High School in Palmer, Alaska.
She was a homemaker. She loved her family and was known for her hospitality. She was a member of Calvary Chapel in Port Orchard.
Survivors include a son, Jim Scott of Port Orchard; three daughters, Lana Combs and Glenda Scott, both of Port Orchard, and Wendy White of Anchorage, Alaska; a brother, Donald; three sisters, Marilyn Ehmann of Colorado, Donna Magnussen of Vermont and Wilda Boggs of Alaska; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, Kitsap Unit, P.O. Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98310.

Helen Ilott
Helen G. Ilott, 63, of Belfair died Feb. 3, 2002, at her home.
She was born May 31, 1938, in Bremerton to William and Clara (Morgan) Bresnahan. She was a 1955 graduate of Bremerton High School.
She received her bachelor's degree in education in 1960 and her master's degree in education in 1967, both from Western Washington University. Her doctorate in educational psychology was completed in 1987 at University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
She was a Master Gardener.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at North Mason United Methodist Church, 25140 NE State Route 3 in Belfair.

GiGi Thornton
Gregg Louise "GiGi" Thornton, 41, of Bainbridge Island died following an illness Jan. 31, 2002, at her home.
She was born Dec. 10, 1960, in Burien to Horace Edward and Helen Marie (Roth) Thornton Jr. She graduated from high school in 1979 in Honolulu.
She loved animals and owned four cats, McStuff, Scrappy, Lilly and Cosmo. She also enjoyed homemaking, cooking and decorating.
Survivors include her companion, Steve Tarabochia; and three sisters, Melody Gurney of Sherman, Conn., and Robin Beaudry and Kim Chakoian, both of Federal Way.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Filipino Hall, 7566 High School Road, Bainbridge Island. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home.

Nathalie Jensen
Nathalie Nadine Jensen, 82, of Poulsbo died Feb. 5, 2002, at her home.
She was born Feb. 14, 1919, in Stanwood to Adolf and Audree Nielsen. She graduated from Stanwood High School.
She married Edward Jensen. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Jensen enjoyed Bible study and crafts.
Survivors include three sons, Ron of Minnesota and Steve and Bruce, both of Poulsbo; two daughters, Joyce Breum of Poulsbo and Gayle Taylor of Chesaw; a brother, Gerald Nelson of Bellingham; three sisters, Wanda Brooks of Bellingham, and Pat Norgaard and Rosalee Hargrove, both of Stanwood; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy; and three brothers, Laverne, Cecil and Wayne.
Visitation will be from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Friday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Charles West
Charles O. West, 70, of Tahuya died of cancer Feb. 3, 2002, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Aitkin, Minn., to Oscar E. and Nellie (Jones) West. He was educated in Puyallup.
He married Merna L. Looker on Aug. 16, 1957, in Tacoma.
Mr. West worked in construction and retired from Ace Paving in 1994.
He enjoyed his family, fishing and especially time spent at Wooten Lake where he made his home the past two years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Guy and his wife Pennye and Terry and his wife Linda, all of Port Orchard; four daughters, Rena Sullivan and her husband, Wayne, of SeaTac, Cheri Bracale and her husband, Carl, of Gig Harbor, Gayle West and her companion, Bill Olson, of Tacoma, and Tina Kiehn and her husband, Rick, of Puyallup; three brothers, Wesley and Wayne West, both of Tacoma, and Shirley Porter of New Hope, Ky.; three sisters, Ilene Froelich of Tacoma, Mae Wolvert of Sumner and Agnes Glines of Sequim; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, George Porter.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at
Mt. View Funeral Home (Valley Chapel), 4100 Steilacoom Blvd., in Tacoma. Private interment will be at Mt. View Memorial Park in Tacoma.
Memorial donations may be made to Providence Sound Home Care and Hospice, 2146 Railroad Ave., Suite C, Shelton, WA 98584.

Stanley Hoyecki
Former Port Orchard resident Stanley Hoyecki, 77, of Yuma, Ariz., died Jan. 22, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 10, 1924, in Somerset, Pa.
Mr. Hoyecki served in the Navy and worked in civil service for 34 years. He retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard as an electronics technician.
Survivors include his wife, Belva; two sons, Stanley of Renton and Gael of San Diego; a daughter, Patti Hoyecki of Oregon; a brother, David of California; two sisters, Genevieve and Irene, both of New York; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Cremation was under the direction of Kammann Mortuary in Yuma. A graveside memorial service will be held later at the Veterans Administration cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore.

Bernice Bull
Bernice C. Bull, 89, of Belfair died Feb. 5, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born July 27, 1912, in Silverdale to Charles and Lillian (Peterson) Ekstedt. She attended Central Kitsap High School.
She married Eugene Bull in August 1930 in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Bull was a homemaker. She enjoyed embroidery and crochet.
She is survived by a sister, Lillian Smith of Alabama.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with interment at Forest Lawn cemetery.

Mona Robison
Burial for former Kitsap County resident Mona Althea (Grevstad) Robison will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fraola cemetery in Olalla.
Mrs. Robison died Jan. 7, 2002.

Betts Harris
