Maxine Meagher
Maxine Virginia Meagher, 81, of Bremerton died March 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born March 25, 1921, in Seattle to Norman and Laura (Smith) Ransom. She graduated from Seattle's Broadway High School in 1939.
She married Bernard Meagher in Seattle in November 1940. He preceded her in death in 1966.
Mrs. Meagher had worked as a dietician at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle. She retired in 1985.
She enjoyed spening time with her family, gardening and animals.
Survivors include one son, Tom Meagher and his wife, Charlene, of Bremerton; one daughter, Jeanette Meagher of Seattle; and grandchildren, Heather and Kyle Meagher, Kurt Geiber and Debbie Dubief.
Inurnment will be at Evergreen-Washelli cemetery in Seattle. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Sylvia Sundquist
Sylvia Sundquist, 80, a resident of Hood Canal, died March 28, 2002.
She was born July 24, 1921, to George and Nancy Whitsell in Winfred, S.D.
In 1941, she moved to Seattle, where she worked as a secretary until her marriage to Arnold Sundquist. The couple then moved to Hoquiam, where she was active in community affairs.
They moved from Hoquiam to Hood Canal in 1991. They spent summers at their Hood Canal home and winters at their home in Sun City, Ariz.
Mrs. Sundquist was a member of Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church in Sun City West and also the Deer Valley Friendship Group - an affiliate of that church.
She was an avid golfer and gardener and belonged to the Deer Valley Women's Club in Arizona and Lakeland Village Women's Golf Club in Allyn.
Survivors include her husband of more than 50 years; one daughter, Gayle Pasero of Bellevue; and two sons, Bruce and Brian, both of Poulsbo; four grandsons; one brother, Milton Whitsell of Bellevue; three sisters, Myrtle Duett of Boulder, Colo., Estella Burrell of Page, Neb., and Elsie Zwart of Sioux Falls, S.D. Three sisters preceded her in death.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make contributions to the American Cancer Society, Providence Sound HomeCare and Hospice, 2146 W. Railroad Avenue, Suite C, Shelton, WA 98584, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church of Hoquiam, Fifth and L streets.

Clara Nelson
Clara Louise Nelson, 89, of South Colby died April 1, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace in Port Orchard.
She was born Dec. 18, 1912, in Fragaria, to Paul and Louise (Berger) Siegert. She was educated in Olalla, Fragaria and Seattle schools.
She married William Nelson on Oct. 31, 1930, in Fragaria. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. Nelson became a homemaker after working as a telephone operator with the Olalla Phone Co.
She was a member of the Dr. T.C. Baldwin Guild of Children's Orthopedic Hospital.
Survivors include three daughters, Caron Stevenson of South Colby, Bette Theis of Port Orchard and Cherie Sautter of Port Hueneme, Calif.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at Lewis Funeral Chapel with a graveside service following at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn cemetery.

Lori Richards Damschen
Lori Richards Damschen, 47, of Port Orchard died March 30, 2002, at Harrison Hospital from complications of Multiple Sclerosis.
She was born Oct. 19, 1954, in Bremerton to Bruce and Elfriede (Heidenreich) Richards. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1973.
She had worked as a meat wrapper with Thriftway for 15 years.
Survivors include her parents now of Port Orchard; one son, Shawn Damschen of Coram, Mont.; one daughter, Brooke Pope of Belfair; two sisters, Marion Cline of Kent and Evy Pope of Westport; and two grandchildren, Dustin and Kendal Pope, both of Belfair.
Services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 6315 S. 19th St., Tacoma, WA 98124.

Dorothy Knutsen
Dorothy B. Knutsen, 83, of Port Orchard died March 25, 2002, at Ridgemont Terrace.
She was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Yankton County, S.D., to Henry and Bessie (Peterson) Donnelly. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1936.
She married Harold A. Knutsen on Sept. 16, 1936, in Yankton County.
A homemaker, Mrs. Knutsen was devoted to her family. She was a Catholic.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Gary and his wife, Tami, of Bend, Ore., Lance and his wife, Sara, of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Michael and his wife, Roberta, of Port Orchard; one daughter, Gloria "Kay" Nelson and her husband, Chriss, of Port Orchard; two sisters, Fern Wirth of Vermillion, S.D., and Lorene Dean Glosup of West Lake Village, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. April 7 at the home of Michael and Roberta Knutsen in Port Orchard.

Kenneth Atherton
Kenneth W. Atherton, 76, of Silverdale died March 31, 2002, at Harrison Hospital from complications of cancer.
He was born Sept. 19, 1925, in Elmo, Mo., to Raymond and Mildred (Taylor) Atherton. He graduated from high school in Salem, Ore., in 1943.
He married Doris Zimmerman on Sept. 9, 1950, in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho. She preceded him in death in 1999.
Mr. Atherton served with the Army from 1943 to 1947 during World War II and from 1950 to 1952 in Korea, achieving the rank of sergeant. He was awarded four Bronze Stars and the Soldier's Medal.
In addition to military service, his career history includes 10 years in construction work and 40 years as an agricultural field manager. He retired in 1996.
Mr. Atherton enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, family trips to the ocean, walking, reading and baseball.
Survivors include one daughter, Susan Bentley and her husband, Bob, of Silverdale; one brother, Keith of Renton; one sister, Bonnie Evans of Texas; and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Megan Bentley. He also was preceded in death by a son, Leroy.
A graveside service with military honors will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Elmwood cemetery in Toppenish under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home. Local arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98310, or to a local cancer society of the donor's choice.

Donald King
Donald E. King, 69, of Bremerton died March 31, 2002, at his home.
He was born Nov. 14, 1932, in Bremerton to Paul E. and Margaret A. (Bruns) King. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1950 and attended Olympic College.
He married Rita L. Milo on Aug. 27, 1953, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Mr. King was a business entrepreneur throughout his life. He also was an electrical contractor and in building construction for more than 50 years.
He was a member of the Elks in Bremerton, the National Electrical Contractors Association and the International Association of Electrical Inspectors.
He is survived by one sister, Elaine P. Hamilton of Bremerton; one nephew, Rick Hamilton of La Verne, Calif.; and numerous relatives and friends. He also was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul E. King Jr.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mountain View cemetery on Mountain View Road in Silverdale. Memorial donations may be made to Mountain View cemetery.

Bill Moore
Willis E. "Bill" Moore, 83, of Bremerton died March 29, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born Dec. 8, 1918, in Detroit to John Hamilton and Henrietta (Boreman) Moore. He graduated in 1935 from high school in Wyandotte, Mich..
He married Ada Marie Currant on Aug. 27, 1944, in Westerly, R.I.
Mr. Moore served in the Navy from 1935 to 1955, retiring as a chief petty officer. He was awarded the Silver Star.
Following his naval career, he worked for 22 years at the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport, retiring as an instrument laboratory supervisor in 1988.
He enjoyed working with metal and boating.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Janice Becker and her husband, Lewis, and Shelley Carter and her husband, Tim, all of Bremerton, Pamela Dionne and her husband, Ron, of Port Townsend, Michele Carlton of Edmonds, and Kathy Tomseth and her husband, Hersy, of Fairbanks, Alaska; one sister, Jean Hammond and her husband, Robert, of Saginaw, Mich.; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Willis E. "Skip" Jr. in 1998 and by a grandson, Anthony Schoneman in 1972.
At his request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Richard Nigh
Richard Albert Nigh, 74, of Allyn died March 28, 2002, at Mason General Hospital in Shelton.
He was born Dec. 11, 1927, in Toledo, Ohio, to Albert F. and Gladys M. (Willits) Nigh. He graduated from Toledo's Central Catholic School in 1945 and in 1973 from Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, Ore.
He married Bernice V. Henninger on July 22, 1950, in Toledo.
Mr. Nigh served in the Navy as a seaman from 1944 to 1946. He later was a tool and die maker with Doehler Jarvis Company in Toledo and Hewett Packard in California, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the Allyn Community Association, the Allyn Historical Church Organization and Allyn Baptist Church (since 1988). His active participation in the church included teaching.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Richard and his wife, Yukari, of Kyoto, Japan; one daughter, Kris Christiansen and her husband, Dave, of Tahuya; and four grandchildren, Kory and Jenny Christiansen and Louie and Joey Nigh.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Allyn Baptist Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Richard Cook
Former Silverdale resident Richard H. Cook, 68, died March 29, 2002, in Longview, Texas.
He was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Mexia, Texas, to Lyman Hall and Pat Cook.
Mr. Cook served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
He met Betty, his wife of 46 years, while living in London.
He worked for Geotech of Garland, Texas, and was relocated to Fairbanks, Alaska. He owned and operated Dick and Don's Texaco for 15 years, and later worked as a service manager and sales associate for Auto Service Co. in Fairbanks.
Mr. Cook enjoyed running and participated in 13 Klondike races.
He was a member of Hillcrest Assembly of God Church in Bremerton.
He is survived by his mother of Kilgore, Texas; his wife; two sisters, Patsy Weatherford of Benton, Ark., and Sherry Spurgeon of Alexander, Ark.; sons Michael Hall Cook of Fairbanks, and Samuel David and his wife Teresa of Manila, Philippines; daughters Kimentha Sue Cook of Denton, Texas, and Patsy June and her husband James Westcott of Juneau, Alaska.; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Rader Funeral Home in Kilgore. A service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church of Kilgore. He will be interred at the Kilgore cemetery.
