Alexander Novinsky
Alexander Novinsky, 85, of Silverdale died May 10, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Feb. 10, 1917, in Frankfurt, Ill., to Peter and Petri Novinsky.
Mr. Novinsky served in the Navy for 20 years, retiring as a master chief. He was awarded numerous medals.
He later worked as a rigger at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 17 years, retiring in 1978.
Mr. Novinsky was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bremerton. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Survivors include a brother, Peter Novinsky of St. Louis; and a niece, Mariann Robinson of St. Louis. He was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Murman and Wilson Funeral Home in Johnson City, Ill. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Saint Peter Paul Catholic Church in Johnson City. Interment icon will be at Saint John The Baptist cemetery in West Frankfurt, Ill.
Memorial donations may be made to Saint John's Baptist School, 702 E Poplar St., West Frankfurt, IL 62896.

Jennie Evans
Jennie Margaret Evans, 92, of Hansville died May 8, 2002, of congestive heart failure at her home.
She was born Sept. 2, 1909, in Big Timber, Mont., to Louis E. and Berdina M. (Skaraas) Hauge.
She graduated from Flat Head High School in Flat Head, Mont.
She married John F. Evans on Dec. 30, 1933, in Seattle. He died in 1995.
Mrs. Evans was a homemaker. She enjoyed bowling and horses.
Survivors include two daughters, Corrine J. Erickson of Hansville and Carol L. McCann and her husband Jack of New Castle, Calif.; a brother, Al Molsness and his wife Shirley of Spokane; a sister, Marie Frederick of Couer d'Alene, Idaho; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Erv Molsness, and a sister, Alice Sommers.
A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Hansville cemetery under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
Memorial donations may be made to North Kitsap Fire & Rescue District 10.

Chester Ullin
W. Chester Ullin, 87, of Silverdale died May 10, 2002, at his home.
He was born March 8, 1915, in Seattle to Carl G. and Anna E. (Peterson) Ullin. He graduated from Centralia High School in 1932; received a bachelor of arts degree from Bellingham Normal School (Western Washington University) in 1937; and received a master's degree in education from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1955.
He married Phyllis V. Rose on June 8, 1940, in Mount Vernon. She also died this year.
Mr. Ullin was a math teacher for 36 years, retiring in 1973. He taught in Seattle Public Schools and in the Bremerton School District, also serving as director of the audio-visual program in Bremerton.
He was a member of the Sons of Norway, the WWU Alumni Association, the Retired Teachers Association, the Seattle Mountaineers and Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Bremerton. He had also volunteered with the Boy Scouts.
Survivors include two sons, Jay Ullin of Seattle and Jim Ullin of Ferndale; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jon Gary Ullin, and a brother, Carl W. Ullin.
Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Lewis Funeral Chapel, followed by a funeral service at noon. Interment icon will be at Mount Vernon cemetery of Endowed Care (the old Order of Odd Fellows cemetery) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
Memorial donations may be made to the Western Washington University Athletic Department, Boy Scouts of America or a charity of the donor's choice.

Virginia May
Virginia May, 84, of Bremerton died of a stroke May 4, 2002, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center.
She was born March 4, 1918, in Port Orchard to Arthur and Pauline (Elofsen) Lund. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1936 and attended Washington State University in Pullman.
She married Clifford L. May on May 22, 1978, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1996.
Mrs. May was the deputy clerk of the Kitsap County Auditor's Office for 30 years, retiring in 1978.
She was a member of the Children's Hospital Orthopedic Guild. She enjoyed the company of family and friends, playing piano and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Gale McInnes of Bremerton; three stepsons, Jack May of Kirkland, Dan May of Edmonds and Bill Mangan of Torrance, Calif.; four stepdaughters, Nancy Rogers of Sherman Oakes, Calif., Mary Misitis of Miami, Juanita Mitchell and Candace Owens, both of Long Beach, Calif.; a sister, Muriel Riggs and her husband, Jack, of Bremerton; two grandchildren, Melanie Lundeen and Paul McInnes, both of Bremerton; two great-grandchildren, Duran and Drey McInnes, both of Bremerton; 15 stepgrandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.
At her request, no services will be held. Arrangements are under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

C.P. Williams
Clara "C.P." Williams, 60, of Bremerton died of cancer May 8, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Oct. 23, 1941, in Taylor, Texas, to Cleveland and Tessie Williams. She was a 1959 graduate of West High School in Bremerton.
She was a career federal employee, having worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, the Naval Submarine Base at Bangor and Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, Calif. She retired from Mare Island in the early 1990s.
She was a member of Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Bremerton. She enjoyed bowling, bingo, cribbage, dominoes, baseball and ceramics.
Survivors include her mother, Tessie Williams of Bremerton; two sons, Dennis and Lonell Williams, both of Bremerton; a brother, Del Williams of Poulsbo; a sister, Norma Crews of Sammamish; and three grandchildren, Shaun Williams, Sierra Williams and Terrell Williams, all of Bremerton.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Clara Williams name at Kitsap Bank, 3425 Wheaton Way, Bremerton, WA 98310.

Donna Carlson
Donna E. Carlson, 88, of Bremerton died of congestive heart failure May 7, 2002, at her home.
She was born Nov. 27, 1913, in Cass County, Mich., to Charles and Blanche (Slipper) McLain. She graduated from Garden City Community College in Garden City, Kan.
She married Alvin E. Carlson in 1946 in Bremerton. He preceded her in death in 1998.
Mrs. Carlson was a homemaker. She had worked in the supply department at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during World War II.
She had served on the board of the Washington Federation of Garden Clubs and as president of the Cross Sound District of Garden Clubs. She was a member of the East Bremerton Garden Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Christine L. Christensen and her husband, Steve, of Bainbridge Island; a niece, Wanda Treick of Kent; one grandson, Mark Christensen of Seattle; and four grand nieces, Tamara Treick of Auburn, Barbara Treick of Portland, Ore., Debbie Keith of Okanogan and Sandy Shipman of Gig Harbor. She also was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Ashby.
Services are private. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.

Catherine Gleason
Former Port Orchard resident Catherine M. Gleason, 60, of Portland, Ore., died of complications of kidney failure May 4, 2002, at her home.
She was born April 2, 1942, in Bremerton to Alva and Margaret M. Bard. She attended South Kitsap High School.
She married Louie Gleason on Dec. 10, 1960, in Port Orchard.
Survivors include her husband; five sons, Joseph Gleason of Portland, Ore., Eddie Gleason of Tacoma, Mark Gleason of Seattle, John Gleason and Johnny Gleason; a daughter, Mary Gleason; two sisters, Virginia I. Leighton and Shirley McKie, both of Port Orchard.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. May 18 at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.

Frances Walden
Frances I. Walden, 76, a longtime Bremerton resident, died May 4, 2002, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma.
She was born Sept. 4, 1925, in Old Town Silverdale to Chris and Hester Gibbs.
She married Richard T. "Ted" Walden. They were married for 56 years.
Mrs. Walden was active in her personal and professional life. She worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard during World War II, taught at the School for the Deaf in Salem, Ore., and managed apartment complexes in Seattle and Tacoma.
She often volunteered at Mountain View cemetery in Silverdale. She also was an accomplished ballroom dancer.
Mrs. Walden and her husband were always quick to help their many friends, acquaintances and family members.
Survivors include her husband; two grandchildren, Drucie A. and Richard C. Walden, both of Salem; a great-grandson, Jason Meaves-Walden of Baker City, Ore.; a niece, Sheri Gibbs of Port Townsend; and three nephews, Gary, Gordon and Daniel Gibbs.
No services will be held.

Bonita Pendleton
Bonita Aileen Pendleton, 57, of Bremerton died May 3, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born Oct. 3, 1944, in Livingston, Mont., to Harlan Douglas and Beulah Eileen (Burnham) Pendleton. She completed her education in Laurel, Mont.
She had worked as an adult caregiver and preschool teacher.
She was a published poet and enjoyed writing song lyrics. She was a member the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her companion, Tom Morse of Bremerton; her mother, Beulah Eileen Pendleton of Rupert, Idaho; two brothers, Harlan D. Pendleton and his wife, Ann, of Rosewood, Calif., and Erwin Pendleton of Delta, Utah; four sisters, Jeannette Brown and her husband, Ed, and Dolores Green, all of Salmon, Idaho, Ruth Pendleton of Somerset, Ky., and Judith Irving and her husband, Otha, of Victorville, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Saturday at Lewis Funeral Chapel. A memorial service will be at 10:40 a.m. Saturday at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 4949 NW Taylor in Bremerton. Cremation is under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Rose Mary Johnson Moyer
Rose Mary Johnson Moyer, 71, of Allyn died May 8, 2002, in Allyn.
She was born July 17, 1930, in Fruita, Colo., to Pete I. and Lavina J. (Jacobsen) Johnson. She graduated from Bremerton High School in 1948.
She married Vernal T. Moyer on May 8, 1954, in Bremerton. Mrs. Moyer died on her 48th wedding anniversary.
Mrs. Moyer worked in the electrical shop personnel office at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, the accounting department at the Bangor Ammunition Depot and the accounting department of the Keyport Torpedo Station. She retired from PSNS in 1990.
She enjoyed dancing, skiing, golf, travel, cooking and gardening. She had attended the North Mason United Methodist Church in Belfair for the past five years.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Stacy Jay Moyer of Tarzana, Calif., Allen Vern Moyer of Bremerton and Michael Thomas Moyer of Pryor, Okla.; a daughter, Dondena Gail Scott of Bellingham; two sisters, Peggy Jendresen of North Hollywood, Calif., and Betty Randell of Sparta, Wis.; 10 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Charles L. Johnson.
Services are pending. Inurnment will be at Forest Lawn cemetery under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Murray Plattner
Murray Woodis Plattner, 79, of Bremerton died of complications from multiple strokes May 7, 2002, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born March 28, 1923, in Scotland, S.D., to Carl and Mabel Plattner. He graduated from Sundance High School in Sundance, Wyo., in 1940.
He married Roberta K. Demmon on Oct. 16, 1942, in Tacoma. They were married 59 years.
Mr. Plattner served in the Army Signal Corps from 1943 to 1945, achieving the rank of sergeant. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge. His name appears on a monument honoring World War II veterans in Normandy, France.
He worked in government service at various locations for more than 35 years. He retired from the Naval Undersea Warfare Center at Keyport in 1984.
Mr. Plattner was a Mason and a member of the Elks and Silverdale Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, attending horse races, casinos and watching his grandchildren play ball.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Rand "Randy" Plattner and his wife, Pam, of Tacoma; a daughter, Carol Maddux and her husband, Ron, of Bremerton; a sister, Evelyn Boers of Puyallup; and seven grandchildren, Michelle Washington, Rochelle Winters, Angela Kinsey, Brett Maddux, Kelly Knight, Kaysie Knight and Brandi Plattner.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Murray Leroy Plattner and Charles Francis Plattner, and by his five older brothers.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Silverdale Lutheran Church, followed by a graveside service at Mountain View cemetery in Tacoma.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the to Silverdale Lutheran Church Sunday School Fund.
