George Achen Quast
George Achen Quast, age 78, of Silverdale, passed away Wednesday April 24, 2002 about noontime in his home with his beloved JoAnn at his side. He was born April 20, 1924 in Little Rock, Arkansas to Arthur A. and Agnes F. (Hart) Quast. George was raised and educated there in Little Rock. During World War II, he served his country by serving in the US Navy for four years.
George went on to become an appliance repairman, who could fix just about everything. Seventeen months ago JoAnn came into his life and they chose to live each day to the fullest. George was an artist and a gardener who could make just about anything grow. He was a musician and would play his guitar and sing for JoAnn. It was always a special time when they could dance. He always lent a hand when he saw there was a need. George was known and loved by all. He was a diamond in the rough.
George is survived by his beloved JoAnn Dargie of Silverdale; daughters, Sharon Wehmier of Forks, WA, Margie F. Quast-Webb of Needles, CA, Janet L. Michelis of Seattle, WA and sisters, Ida M. Sisco, Lorraine McCuin and Neoma Bridges, all of Little Rock, Arkansas, as well as, several grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
In George's memory, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, POB 2383 Bremerton, WA 98310. At his request, there will be no services, but instead, take a moment to help a friend or neighbor, as he so often did. Arrangements were entrusted to Lewis Funeral Chapel.

Herbert C. "Bud" Hudson
Herbert C. "Bud" Hudson passed away April 27, 2002 at Bremerton, Washington.
Herb was born on June 3, 1921 in Bremerton. He was a third generation Kitsap area resident and resided here during his lifetime except for the time he spent serving in the Army in WWII.
Mr. Hudson worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard after returning from the Army and later retired from Keyport in 1975, where he was instrumental in development of the Mark 48 torpedo. Herb later worked for the Washington Liquor Board at the Bremerton store and then managed the Belfair store. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially camping and hunting. His family will always remember the patience and love he showed them which was always tempered by his wry sense of humor.
He leaves behind his wife, Jeanette Hudson; son, Roger Hudson; daughters, Sandra Rodowick, Janice Anderson, Dianne Morrow, Sandy Hudson, and Lori Silk. He had 8 grandchildren, Joshua, Christina, Rory, Denny, Landon, Bryan, Daniel, Jasmin, and one great-grandson, Parker.
His brother Claude Hudson and sisters Betty Roberts and Lorraine Filmon survive him.
Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home will be handling arrangements. Visitation will be noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn followed by a funeral service there at 2 p.m.

Gregory Johnson
Gregory Johnson of Bremerton and Silverdale, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2002 at his parents' home in Silverdale, surrounded by his loving family, after a long and very brave battle with Leukemia.
Gregory Johnson was born January 20, 1957 in Bremerton, Washington, the son of Larry R. and Maxine Johnson. He attended school all his life in the Central Kitsap School District, graduating from Central Kitsap High School in 1975.
He worked most of his life as a Long Distance Truck Driver, working for companies all over the United States. He spent several years working for Kitsap County Public Works, and most recently for Contractor's Roofing Service of Gig Harbor. Greg's family and friends will best remember him for his generosity and striking red hair and constant, big, beautiful smile. He made everyone laugh while telling of his adventures on the road across the nation.
Greg adored his parents and sister, Jari Arin of Pt. Orchard. He is also survived by a nephew, Andru Martin of Gig Harbor and one niece, Sheena Martin of Pt. Orchard, his Grandfather, Harry Williams of Pt. Hadlock, Grandmother, Dorothy Johnson of Edmonds, Aunts Nancy Templeton, JoRene Nelson of Bremerton, and Lois McIntire of Edmonds and Uncles Ronald Williams of Pt. Orchard and Jon Williams of Pelican, Alaska, as well as many cousins.
Private family burial services were held at Forest Lawn cemetery. Memorials may be made to: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center Foundation, 1100 Fairview Ave., N., LY-120, Seattle, WA 98109-1024 or Hospice of Kitsap County, 3100 Bucklin Hill Road #101, PO Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383.

Elsie MacGeorge
Elsie E. MacGeorge, 72, of Belfair died June 30, 2002, of cancer at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Jan. 20, 1930, in Cody, Wyo., to George and Blanch Baker. She graduated from high school in Missoula, Mont., in 1948.
She married Richard MacGeorge on April 29, 1977, in Gig Harbor.
Mrs. MacGeorge had owned Candlestick House Antiques in Belfair for 20 years. She also was a homemaker.
She was an avid gardener and collector of antique glass.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Gary Cole of Renton and James Downing of Aberdeen; a daughter, Karla Norman of Port Orchard; two sisters, Charlotte Short of Kalispell, Mont., and Francine Elton of Whitefish, Mont.; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Lewis, in 1994 and by a sister, Marion Williams.
No services are planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Virginia Eiler
Virginia Ann Eiler, 49, of Bremerton died June 19, 2002, of multiple organ failure at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma.
She was born Oct. 30, 1952, in Olivia, Minn., to Jerome and LaVerna (Seidl) Eiler. She graduated from Lake Lillian High School in Bird Island, Minn., in 1972 and received a medical assistant's degree from Eton Technical Institute in Seattle in 1994.
She served in the Navy from 1972 to 1992, retiring as a chief petty officer. She was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal and two Navy Achievement Medals.
During her naval career, she worked as a physical-occupational therapist and an independent duty technician.
Her favorite pastimes were reading and writing books. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
She is survived by her mother, four brothers and five sisters. Her father preceded her in death.
The Navy will perform a military burial at sea. Memorial donations may be made to the U.S. Naval Home, 1800 Beach Drive, Gulfport, MS 39507, attention: Shelda.

Fred Schoneman
Fred S. Schoneman, 88, of Bremerton died June 29, 2002, from complications of asbestosis and diabetes.
He was born Feb. 28, 1914, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Arthur and Ragnhild (Kindingsland) Schoneman. He graduated from Cliffside Park High School in Cliffside Park, N.J., and graduated in 1936 from the New York State Ranger School at Syracuse University where he studied forestry, surveying and construction engineering.
Following his college graduation, Mr. Schoneman worked at a tree nursery; as a forester in Gouverneur, N.Y.; a mine surveyor; an employee at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York; and as a construction surveyor in Brazil and in the Aleutian Islands.
He moved his family to Bremerton in 1945 when he was first employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in the public works department and later in the director shop aligning big guns on ships.
In 1946, he was hired by the city of Bremerton, working as a field engineer for 12 years and a street superintendent for two years. He later served the city for 17 years as commissioner of public works.
He was later elected Port of Bremerton commissioner and held that position for 12 years. When he retired at the age of 84, Mr. Schoneman had devoted 45 years of service to Bremerton.
His volunteer involvement included work with the YMCA, Salvation Army, Red Cross, the Flagship Turner Joy, the Sinclair Landing Association, the Navy League, the Bremerton Chamber of Commerce, the Missouri Siting Committee, the Economic Development Council and the Downtown Revitalization Task Force.
Mr. Schoneman also was a member of Bremerton Elks 1181, the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, the Nile Temple and the Lions Club.
He married Margaret Whitcomb in Montreal, Canada, on May 17, 1940. She died in 1972.
He married Katherine Lee in 1977. Survivors include his wife; a son, Noel Schoneman and his wife, Carol, of Sammamish; three daughters, Mary Whittaker and her husband, Bernie, of Holly, Sue Brannan and her husband, Bruce, and Ellie Coombe and her husband, Jeff, all of Bremerton; a sister, Alice Myhre of Bremerton; six grandchildren, Scott Whittaker, Jay Whittaker and his wife, Elizabeth, Kevin Bell and his wife, Kendra, Casey Brannan, and Corey and Mathew Coombe; and two great-grandchildren, Bryley and Hanson Bell.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. July 11 at Manette Community Church, E. 13th St. and Hayward Avenue in East Bremerton.

Marlena Estep Wilch
Former Bremerton resident Marlena L. Estep Wilch, 28, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died June 25, 2002, from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Savoy, Ark.
She was born Nov. 4, 1973, in Gravette, Ark. She grew up in Siloam Springs.
She married Peter C. Wilch on Feb. 2, 1998.
Mrs. Wilch worked as public safety dispatcher for the University of Arkansas.
Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Shannera D. Estep; her mother and stepfather, Reeva and Elvan Allen; four sisters, Crystal Knox, Tracy Butler, Margaret Fields and Jeanene Cochran; two stepbrothers, Elvan Allen III and Jason Allen; and a stepsister, Kathryn Allen. Her father, Perry Estep, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held for family members from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and from 6 to 8 p.m. for others at Wasson Funeral Home in Siloam Springs. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, also at Wasson Funeral Home. The funeral home can be contacted by calling (479) 524-5131 or by mail at P.O. Box 29, Siloam Springs, AR 72761.

Etta Ames
Etta Jane Ames, 87, of Port Orchard died June 27, 2002, at her home.
She was born April 26, 1915, in Wauchula, Fla., to John Henry and Etta Blanche (Criss) Hubbard.
She married Gilbert S. Ames on Jan. 27, 1934. He preceded her in death in 2001.
Survivors include three daughters, Beverly Robins and her husband, Charles, of East Wenatchee, Janet Wooten and her husband, Ronald, of Port Orchard, and Judith "Judy" Stevens and her husband, Emsley, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Bill Jones of Idaho and Kenny Jones of Port Orchard; six grandchil-dren; and 12 great-grand-children.
She also was preceded in death by two sisters, Jessie Harris and Margarite Nick-les, and by two brothers, Thomas and Howard Hubbard.
Private family services are planned.

Doris Jimenez
Doris Y. Jimenez, 71, of Bremerton died June 22, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born May 23, 1931, in Hilo, Hawaii, to Kama and Matsu Higa. She graduated from Farrington High School in Honolulu.
She married Enrique "Jim" Jimenez.
Mrs. Jimenez had worked in data processing at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 26 years, retiring in 1993.
She enjoyed bingo and traveling.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert of Bremerton; four daughters, Rose Edwards of Sumner, Angie Tateishi and Carolanne Sunabe, both of Honolulu, and Gladys Mangosin of San Francisco; two sisters, Beatrice Arakaki and Betty Yogi, both of Honolulu; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James.
Private services will be held in Honolulu at the National Memorial of the Pacific.

Rondle Billingsley
Rondle Lee Billingsley, 66, of Bremerton died of ALS, or Lou Gehrig's disease, June 26, 2002, at his home.
He was born Dec. 11, 1935, in Stonewall, Okla., to Bob and Edith Betty Billingsley. He graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma.
Mr. Billingsley served in the Navy from 1954 to 1974. He was awarded the Navy Unit Commendation Medal and Joint Service Commendation Medal.
He went on to work 20 years in civil service, retiring in 1994.
Mr. Billingsley had performed as a clown with the Shriners until he was physically unable to do so.
Survivors include a daughter, Kathryn of Everett; a sister, Helen Hansen of Olympia; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, Elliott and Pauline Smith.
A private service will be held Friday at the Illahee State Park Pier. Memorial donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in Tacoma.

Scott Walls
Former Kitsap County resident Scott W. Walls, 33, of Clinton, Conn., died June 29, 2002, at his home.
He was born Dec. 18, 1968, in New London, Conn., to Michael G. and Sheila (Rogers) Walls. He graduated from Olympic High School in 1986. He participated on the wrestling team at OHS, competing at the state level.
Mr. Walls graduated from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., in 1991 and from the Yale School of Medicine Physician's Associate Program in 1995.
Mr. Walls worked as a physician's associate at the Hospital of St. Raphael in New Haven, Conn.
He was a member of the Branford Evangelical Free Church in Branford, Conn.
Survivors include his wife, Kelly Boland Walls; his parents, now of Poulsbo; two brothers, Michael P. Walls of Napa, Calif., and Jeff M. Walls of Poulsbo; his maternal grandmother, Louise T. Rogers of Mystic, Conn.; his paternal grandparents, Dorothy F. and Nino Airoldi of Vallejo, Calif.; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. His wife is expecting a daughter, Emma Elizabeth Walls, in Septem-ber.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Branford Evangelical Free Church with burial at Center cemetery in Branford.
Friends and family may call W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home from 4 to 8 p.m. today at (203) 488-3414. The funeral home is at 504 Main St. in Branford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Emma Walls Fund or to Branford Evangelical Free Church, both c/o of the church at 231 Leetes Island Road, Branford, CT 06405.
