Dolly Scott
Former Kitsap County resident Stella Delores "Dolly" Scott, 67, of Bentley, La., died Aug. 21, 2002, at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, La.
She was born in Calhoun, Ky., to Henry Delano and Lattie Ann Nickels Scott.
She was a retired budget analyst, having worked at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport. She had also worked parttime at Port Orchard Foot Care.
She enjoyed the companionship of her dog, Muffin.
Survivors include her three children, Debbie Pyper and her husband, Tom, of Bentley and Mary Rogers and Scott R. Peckham, both of Port Orchard; four grandchildren, Mike Holbrook, Taylor Rogers and Blaine St. Denis, all of Port Orchard, and Tim Holbrook of Memphis; two step-grandchildren, Chelsea Pyper of Baton Rouge, La., and Brandon Pyper of Jacksonville, Tenn.; five great-grandchildren; her former husband, Bill Miller; and numerous friends.
Arrangements are under the direction of Forest Lawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park in Pineville, La., (866) 785-9793.

Elma White
Elma Catherine White, 87, of Bremerton died Aug. 20, 2002, in Bremerton.
She was born May 2, 1915, in Blue Creek, W. Va., to John Franklin and Anabelle (Hunter) Enoch.
She married Robert L. White on Dec. 30, 1945, in Bremerton. He died in 1995.
Mrs. White had worked as a blueprint operator. She also volunteered with the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport.
Survivors include a son, Larry White of Tracy, Calif.; a daughter, Barbara Goldsmith of Pasco; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services are private. Her ashes will be scattered at sea by the Navy. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel with cremation at Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 4414 Woodland Park Ave. N, Seattle, WA 98103-7499.

Captola Foutch
Captola S. Foutch, 70, of Port Orchard died Aug. 18, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 4, 1931, in Burley.
Survivors include a son, Dan Foutch of Cheney; two daughters, Linda Warmbo of Kent and Darlene Helmka of Port Orchard; and five grandchildren, Danyell, Robert, Randall, Jessica and Savannah.
No services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.

Berta Smith
Herberta M. "Berta" (Miller) Smith, 90, of Belfair died of congestive heart failure Aug. 15, 2002, at her home.
She was born Jan. 1, 1912, in Seattle to William Clark and Mary Harvey Miller. She graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle and attended the University of Washington.
She married Andrew Y. Smith in Seattle. He died in 1974.
Mrs. Smith worked at Fircrest School in Seattle from 1957 to 1975 when she retired to her home on Hood Canal.
At that time, she volunteered with the North Mason Food Bank and the H.O.S.T. program in the North Mason School District. In addition, she was active in Belfair Community Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smith enjoyed her beach, dinners with family and friends and working in her yard.
Survivors include a son, James Andrew Smith of Seattle; three daughters, Virginia Lee Causey of Seattle and Susan J. Van Dusen and Sara Smith, both of Belfair; a sister, Jennie Hein of Bremerton; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, William Clark Miller, and a sister, Mary Bartlett Miller.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at Belfair Community Baptist Church followed with a reception.

Vince Castro
Vicente "Vince" Castro Jr., 32, of Port Orchard died Aug. 19, 2002, at Northern Inyo Hospital in Bishop, Calif., from injuries sustained in a car accident.
He was born July 21, 1970, in Bremerton to Vicente and Pacita (Taijeron) Castro. He graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1988.
He married Marci McLeod on Aug. 11, 1990, in Port Orchard.
Mr. Castro worked as a welder in Shop 26 at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.
His favorite pastimes were sailing, bowling, billiards and cooking.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Pacita Quichocho of Port Orchard; a son, Hunter Castro of the family home; two brothers, Christopher Castro and Boya Quichocho Jr., both of Port Orchard; two sisters, Claretta Wakita of Oahu, Hawaii, and Celina Sablan of Port Orchard; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Stan and Irene McLeod; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Gabriel Catholic Church, 1150 Mitchell Ave., in Port Orchard. A reception follows the Mass at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1153 Mitchell Ave., in Port Orchard.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital, 311 S. "L" St., Tacoma, WA 98405.

Gary Bray
Former Bremerton resident Gary Bray, 63, of Sumner died of a heart attack Aug. 21, 2002, in Puyallup.
He was born June 12, 1939, in Glasgow, Mont., to Edward and Gertrude (Boyum) Bray. He grew up in Bremerton, graduating from West High School in 1957 and continuing to live in Bremerton until 1985.
Mr. Bray served in the Army from 1961 to 1964, achieving the rank of specialist fifth class.
He married Judy Latour on April 26, 1964, in Lynn, Mass.
Mr. Bray worked as a fleet service clerk for American Airlines. He enjoyed his grandchildren and softball.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Allan Bray and his wife, Frances Cuyle, of Lakewood; two daughters, Ellen Wood and her husband, Dennis, of Bremerton, and Karen Richardson and her husband, Dale, of Lakeworth, Texas; two sisters, Beverly Maxwell of Port Orchard and Georgia Roland of Federal Way; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Andrews Catholic Church Chapel, 704 Kincaid Ave. in Sumner.
Arrangements are under the direction of Weeks' Whitmore Funeral Home in Buckley.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to the American Heart Association.

Garrick Vignolo
Garrick Sean Vignolo, 35, of Bremerton died Aug. 20, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born March 29, 1967, in Chowchilla, Calif., to John Kenneth and Raedean (Mayer) Vignolo. He graduated from Central Kitsap High School in 1985 and later attended Olympic College.
He married Jody Worland on Feb. 14, 1987, in Silverdale.
Mr. Vignolo served in the Navy from 1986 to 1991.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He enjoyed classic cars and playing guitar.
Survivors include his wife; his parents; a son, Joshua Vignolo of Kingston; two daughters, Michelle Vignolo and Kasey Vignolo, both of Kingston; two sisters, Darsay Vignolo-Wright and Danae Roedinger, both of Phoenix; and his grandparents, Dorothy Vignolo of Chowchilla, and Frank and Virginia Mayer of Othello.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.
Services are pending.

Leon Fox
Leon C. Fox, 64, of Port Orchard died after a lengthy battle with cancer Aug. 21, 2002, in Bremerton.
He was born Dec. 17, 1937, in Spalding, Neb., to Cornelius and Alma (Yoder) Fox. He graduated from West High School in Bremerton.
He married Patty A. Wiley on Dec. 3, 1994, in Reno, Nev.
Mr. Fox and his brother, Jim, owned and operated Fox Motors in Bremerton for more than 30 years.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Alma (Yoder) Fox Bjorklund of Bremerton; a son, Dan Deisler and his wife, Lisa, of Port Orchard; two daughters, Denise Jeffcoat and her husband, Dave, of Allyn, and Terry Fox of Shelton; three brothers, Tom Fox of South Carolina, James "Jim" Fox and his wife, Diann, of Bremerton, and Bob Fox and his wife, Valerie, of North Carolina; two sisters, Caroline Mateo and her husband, Ed, of California, and Shirley Henderson and her companion, Bud Logsdon; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be at 5 p.m. Sept. 6 at the Bremerton Elks Lodge. Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Marilyn Hunt
Marilyn Christine Hunt, 59, of Silverdale died of natural causes Aug. 18, 2002, at her home.
She was born May 13, 1943, in Crombie, Scotland, to David and Jean (Santry) Low. She was educated in Scotland, graduating from the Aberdeen College of Education in Aberdeen, Scotland.
She married Alan A. Hunt on Sept. 23, 1967, in Laurencekirk, Scotland.
Mrs. Hunt had worked as an instructional aide for the Central Kitsap School District at Jackson Park Elementary School.
She enjoyed camping, traveling to Mexico and gardening.
Survivors include her husband; a son, David of Poulsbo; a daughter, Melanie Powers of Silverdale; and five grandchildren, Christian, Taryn, Brenda, Brendan and Ariana.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Cremation is under the direction of Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo with inurnment at Mt. View cemetery in Silverdale.

Stephen Kendryna
Stephen Thomas Kendryna Jr., 54, of Bremerton died Aug. 15, 2002, in Tahuya.
He was born Jan. 29, 1948, in Baltimore, Md., to Stephen Thomas Kendryna Sr. and Bertha (Dombrowski) Kendryna. He graduated from Polytechnical Institute High School in Baltimore, Md.
Mr. Kendryna served in the Navy Reserve. He worked as a dental technician.
He enjoyed water and snow skiing. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout.
Survivors include two brothers, Kevin Kendryna and his wife, Marilyn, of Tucson, Ariz., and Ken Kendryna of Bremerton; four sisters, Dorothy Whiteford and her husband, Link, and Veronica Carrico, all of Baltimore, Geraldine Parks of Marysville, Ga., and Deborah Kendryna and her family of Cambridge, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A service will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to the Kitsap Humane Society, 9167 Dickey Road NW, Silverdale, WA 98337.

Jo Hartman
Johanna "Jo" Hartman, 69, of Port Orchard died Aug. 21, 2002, of cancer at her home.
She was born April 11, 1933, in Indersdorf, Germany, to Josef and Ottilie (Pollinger) Lechner. She graduated from high school in Dachau, Germany.
She married Elmer Wayne Hartman on Dec. 29, 1955, in Dachau.
Mrs. Hartman was a homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, crochet and travel.
She was affiliated with the Catholic church.
Survivors include her husband; a brother, Ludwig Lechner of Dachau; three sisters, Anna Akers of Lawton, Okla., Erika Kriebel of Bergkirchen, Germany, and Josefine Lechner of Dachau.
At her request, no services will be held. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416.
