Della Lee
Della Lee, 88, of Poulsbo died Jan. 27, 1999, in Bremerton.
She was born April 6, 1910, in Arkansas, to Henderson Kelley. She was raised in Arkansas.
Mrs. Lee was a homemaker.
Survivors include a son, Charles of Sacramento, Calif.; a daughter, Colleen Chandler of Nebraska; a sister, Zella Cook of Arizona; and numerous grandchildren.
Cremation is under the direction of Miller Woodlawn. Inurnment will be at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 718 Lebo Blvd., Bremerton, WA 98310.

Janet Perez
Janet Sue Perez, 41, of Port Orchard died Jan. 26, 1999, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma.
She was born Dec. 12, 1957, to Frank and Betty (Beers) Olsen. She was raised in Bainbridge Island, graduating from Bainbridge Island High School in 1976.
On Dec. 11, 1982, she married Dennis G. Perez in Bremerton.
Mrs. Perez was a homemaker.
She was also a member of the Kitsap Aquarium Society.
Survivors include her husband; her parents; a stepson, Ron of Gig Harbor; a stepdaughter, Gayla of Port Orchard; and two sisters, Betsy Childriss of Hansville and Peggy Davis of Bremerton.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 3 at Rill Chapel.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Valentine Schaaf Jr.
Valentine "Val" Christ Schaaf Jr., 78, of Port Orchard died Jan. 27, 1999, at Port Orchard Care Center.
He was born July 15, 1920, in New England, N.D., to Valentine and Barbara (Schaff) Schaaf. He was raised in Bowman County, N.D.
On Jan. 14, 1941, he married Tillie Hecker in Eugene, Ore.
Mr. Schaaf worked as a farmer and was a self-employed mechanic.
He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Port Orchard.
Survivors include seven sons, David, Bernie and Ron, all of Port Orchard, Ben of Bowman, Leon of Veneta, Ore., Tim of Eugene and Neil of Springfield, Ore.; three daughters, Janet Franckowiak of Port Orchard, Valerie Duncan of Boise, Idaho, and Linda Franckowiak of El Mira, Mich.; a brother, Clem of Bowman; two sisters, Elizabeth Hecker of Springfield and Josephine Kazmarek of Scranton, N.D.; 26 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 1, with Mass immediately following, both at St. Gabriel Catholic Church. Interment icon will be at St. Charles Catholic cemetery in Bowman.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.

Stanley Hanson
Stanley M. Hanson, 84, of Bremerton died Jan. 25, 1999.
He was born May 5, 1914, in Bismarck, N.D., to Henry and Ada (Benoit) Hanson. He was raised in Everett and attended St. Martin's College.
On Dec. 28, 1942, he married LaVonne M. Basel in Bremerton.
Mr. Hanson worked for the Navy as an engineer at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and then spent the majority of his career at Keyport Naval Torpedo Station, retiring in 1971.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish since 1970, a charter member of the Bremerton Camera Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his wife and three nieces, Kiffy Fuller of Shelton, Candy Phipps of Colville and Kaye Anderson of Bremerton. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Myron and Chet.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 29 at Miller Woodlawn Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park.

James Chandler
James Vincent Chandler, 25, of Port Orchard died due to an accidental strangulation Jan. 25, 1999, at his home.
He was born July 2, 1973, in Bremerton to Jamie Streutker. He was raised in Bremerton and attended South Kitsap High School.
He worked at the Alpine Tree Farm for five years and most recently for Wal-Mart in Port Orchard.
Survivors include his mother; a brother, Simon Smith of Bremerton; a sister, Mandy Muhleman of Bremerton; his grandmother, Elizabeth Streutker; and his fiancee, Heather Brenny.
Services will be announced at a later date.

Elizabeth Brault
Elizabeth "Betty" Brault, 65, of Port Orchard died Jan. 24, 1999.
She was born Jan. 1, 1934, in Burbank, Calif., to Arthur and Muriel (Blakeley) Bruce. She was raised in Burbank and Canyon Country, Calif., graduating from William S. Hart High School in 1951. She later graduated from Mission College in 1981.
She was a Eucharistic minister at Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church and a member of the Kitsap Business Women's Organization.
Survivors include her adopted daughter, Heather Devine-Lund of Tacoma; and three sisters, Sheila Bruce, Rosemarie Pastorel and Eva Hudshon, all of Port Orchard.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Jan. 27, with Rosary recitation at 3 p.m., both at Rill Chapel. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 28 at Saint Gabriel's Catholic Church.

Joseph DeFina
Former longtime Bremerton resident Joseph F. DeFina, 86, died Jan. 25, 1999, at the Central Washington Hospital of Wenatchee.
He was born May 19, 1912, in Hazelton, Pa., to Jac and Angelin (Blass) DeFina. He was raised and educated in Hazelton.
On Nov. 14, 1936, he married Helen M. Kokitas in Hazelton. They moved to Bremerton in 1944. She preceded him in death in 1995.
Mr. DeFina worked for several years with the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He later worked for Charleston Hardware in retail sales.
He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, the Eagles Lodge 192 and the Sons of Italy. He volunteered his time as a cook at both the Eagles and Sons of Italy to help raise funds for various charities. He was also involved with the Wenatchee Valley Senior Center.
Survivors include a son, Joseph of East Wenatchee; two daughters, Dorothy Gaffney of Redlands, Calif., and JoAnn Baker of Batavia, Ill.; a sister, Mildred Lapetina of Hazelton; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dolores in 1969, and by seven brothers and sisters.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 29 at the Colonial Chapel of Jones and Jones Funeral Home, Wenatchee. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 30 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton, with interment following at Forest Lawn cemetery.
Local arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to Our Lady Star of the Sea, 1513 Sixth St., Bremerton, WA 98337.

Carl Witt
Former Kitsap County resident Carl Elton Witt, 68, died of a heart attack Jan. 22, 1999, in Willcox, Ariz.
He was born May 4, 1930, in Seattle to Elton and Sarah (Ray) Witt. He was raised and educated in Port Orchard, attending South Kitsap High School. He later attended both Washington State University and Olympic College.
On Dec. 16, 1950, he married Mary Joyce Pelluer in Bremerton.
Mr. Witt served in the National Guard from 1950 to 1956. He sold cars for Chuck Haselwood in Bremerton and Howe Ford in Port Orchard. He later worked for a beverage distributor in Kitsap County, owned Hilltop Grocery in Port Orchard for more than eight years and worked as a receiving manager for P.J.'s Market in Pahrump, Nev., until his retirement at age 62.
Most recently he was a camp host for 31 1/2 years at Magic Circle R.V. Park in Willcox.
He was a member of the United Commercial Travelers in Kitsap County.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kyle of Port Orchard and John of Bremerton; a daughter, Kim Staebell of Willcox; two sisters, Helen Bracamontes of Richland and Mildred Langland of Bremerton; three grandchildren, Kyle Witt of Tacoma, Laura Witt of Port Orchard and Chris Staebell of Tucson, Ariz.; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Jan. 30, with funeral services immediately following, both at Rill Chapel. Interment icon will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the University of Washington Medical Center, Cardiothoracic Research, 1959 NE Pacific St., Seattle, WA 98195.

Leona Chapel
Leona I. Chapel, 66, of Tacoma died of cancer Jan. 15, 1999, at Bel Air Care Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1932, in Aurora, Neb., to Adelbert and Etta (Davenport) Frye. She was raised in Lake City, attending Clover Park and Stadium high schools.
Mrs. Chapel worked as a waitress and housekeeper for resorts in Lake Mead, Ariz., for 12 years, retiring in 1983.
Survivors include two sons, Alan O'Neill of Phoenix, and Timothy O'Neill of Tacoma; a daughter, Perrie Lee Kemp of Lacey; two stepsons, Arthur Chapel Jr. of Arizona, and Bob Chapel of Fort Morgan, Colo.; a sister, Elsie Patty of Gig Harbor; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, Danny and Michael O'Neill.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 30 at Rill Chapel. Inurnment will be at Sunset Lane cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel.
