Sonny Clark
Ervin L. "Sonny" Clark, 66, of Bremerton died Nov. 1, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
He was born Dec. 10, 1935, in Missoula, Mont., to Ervin and Alvina (Shaffer) Clark. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1953.
He married Madeline "Midge" Mogg on June 15, 1957, in Nome, Alaska.
Mr. Clark served in the Army from 1953 until retiring in 1975. He worked with the Alaska Communications Special Branch (1955-60); assisted in the development of NORAD; saw active duty throughout Alaska, Europe, Korea, Vietnam and Washington state; and was a decorated member of USASTRATCOM (responsible for strategic military communications throughout the Pacific and Europe).
After his career with the Army, Mr. Clark worked for the Air Force in a civilian capacity for 15 years at Clear Air Force Base in Alaska until poor health necessitated his retirement in 1990.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ervin L. "Boo" Clark and Gerhard Clark; three daughters, Theresa Carrahar, Jean Marie Anderson and Mary Ann Teegardin; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Bernadette Freeman.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pendleton-Gilchrist Funeral Home at Rill Chapel in Port Orchard. Inurnment will be at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Rubye Warwick
Rubye Eloise Warwick, 82, of Bremerton died Nov. 1, 2002, of Mylodysplastic Syndrome at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Aug. 23, 1920, in Arlington to Rubene and Gladys (Carnes) Yarrington.
She married Ralph Raymond Danielson on April 17, 1939. He preceded her in death after 44 years of marriage.
She then married Phillip P. Warwick on Oct. 8, 1984. He also preceded her in death a few years later.
Mrs. Warwick was a resident of Kitsap County for most of her adult life. She was employed as a sales clerk with J.C. Penney, Bremers Department Store, Sears and Hudson Design.
She was an accomplished seamstress who loved to knit and crochet for her family. She also volunteered for several years with Discovery Shop, which raises money for the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Warwick was an active member of Chico Alliance Church, where she enjoyed singing and playing the organ.
Survivors include a son, Allan "Ray" Danielson of Bremerton; a daughter, Linda Sommerseth and her husband, JoReen, of Bainbridge Island; and 11 grandchildren, Kenneth, Karol, Klaudia, Kathy, Karla, Sherrie, David, Kimberley, Marty, Bobby and Billie; and five great-grandchildren. A daughter, Janice Hampton, also preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Chico Alliance Church, 3670 Chico Way NW in Bremerton. Private burial will be at Forest Lawn cemetery in Bremerton under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel.
Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 2383, Bremerton, WA 98312, to Bethany Lutheran Church, 7968 Finch Road NE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110, to Chico Alliance Church, 3670 Chico Way NW, Bremerton, WA 98312, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Emilia Miller
Emilia Frieda Miller, 95, of Poulsbo died Oct. 31, 2002, at her home.
She was born July 14, 1907, in Kulm, N.D., to John and Magdelina (Grosz) Kusler.
She married Novel Miller on Dec. 23, 1939, in Seattle. He preceded her in death in 1972.
Mrs. Miller had lived in Poulsbo since 1983. She was a resident of Morton from 1945 until 1983.
She was a homemaker who loved spending time with her family and participating in church-related activities. She also enjoyed sewing and gardening.
Mrs. Miller was a longtime member of the Morton Methodist Church and attended Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include two daughters, Shirley Radecki and her husband, Dan, of San Jose, Calif., and Beverly Layton and her husband, Tom, of Poulsbo; a sister, Adeline McCloy of Cambridge, Minn.; and six grandchildren, Jeff, Kristy and Tasha Layton, and Willy, Danny and Michelle Radecki.
Three brothers and seven sisters preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Morton Methodist Church and at 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo. Private interment will be at the Morton cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, P.O. Box 3416, Silverdale, WA 98383-3416, or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Trudie Petrovic
Gertrude "Trudie" K. Petrovic, 89, of Bremerton died Oct. 25, 2002 in Bremerton of natural causes.
She was born Feb. 2, 1913, in Washington, D.C., to Albert and Mary (Wunder) Kirk.
After graduating from high school, Mrs. Petrovic went to nursing school at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, graduating in 1934.
She served in the U.S. Navy as a registered nurse from 1934 to 1939.
She married William F. Petrovic Aug. 26, 1939 in Valley Forge Chapel in Pennsylvania. He preceded her in death in 1991.
Mrs. Petrovic was a homemaker who enjoyed knitting and traveling. She was a member of the Society of Sponsors and P.E.O. (Philanthropic Education Organization) Sisterhood.
She was Lutheran and attended the chapel at Naval Submarine Base Bangor.
Mrs. Petrovic is survived by three sons, William K. of Philadelphia, James R. of Hood River, Ore., and Bruce D. of Kona, Hawaii; a daughter, Deborah P. Hager of Florida; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Howell Kirk.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Miller-Woodlawn, followed by entombment and reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mary Eleanor Ostgaard
Mary Eleanor Ostgaard, 72, of Port Townsend died Oct. 19, 2002 in Bremerton.
She was born Aug. 5, 1930, in Thermopolis, Wyo., to Charles and Eunice (Ready) Warren. She graduated from Excelsior High School in Norwalk, Calif., in 1948 and from Long Beach City College in Long Beach, Calif., in 1974.
She married Gerald Dean Ostgaard on April 20, 1947, in Bellflower, Calif. He also died this year.
Mrs. Ostgaard worked in the security department at the Naval Undersea Warfare Engineering Station at Keyport for 15 years, retiring in 1999.
She was a member of San Juan Baptist Church in Port Townsend.
Survivors include a son, Charles Gerald Ostgaard of Norwalk; two daughters, Kathy Newman and Karen Loving, both of Port Townsend; a brother, Tom Warren of Salem, Ore.; two sisters, Juanita Warren of Alta Loma, Calif., and Dorothy Knisley of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Billie June Warren.
A memorial service was held Oct. 24 at San Juan Baptist Church with inurnment at Laurel Grove cemetery in Port Townsend.
Arrangements were under the direction of Kosec Funeral Home in Port Townsend.

George Shafer
George R. Shafer, 59, of Silverdale died Oct. 31, 2002, of cancer in Bremerton.
He was born Aug. 24, 1943, in Wisconsin to George and Edna (Trapp) Shafer. He graduated from West High School in Bremerton in 1961 and joined the Army in August 1961.
Mr. Shafer served with the Army's Fifth Special Forces from 1961 until his retirement as a sergeant major in 1985. He was a veteran of five tours of duty in Vietnam and service in Europe and the eastern United States. He was awarded numerous medals and honors, including five Purple Hearts and six Bronze Stars.
After his retirement, he returned to Bremerton in 1985. For the past 10 years, he worked at All Star Lanes in Silverdale.
Mr. Shafer was a prize-winning bowler. He won a special ring for scoring a perfect 300.
He also enjoyed baseball and working with Special Olympics. He was a member of Evergreen Lutheran Church in Seabeck.
Survivors include his mother, now of Silverdale; his father, now of Michigan; two sisters, Betty Kudera and her husband, Mike, of Silverdale, and Judy Benson and her husband, Paul, of Bremerton; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home in Bremerton. Memorial donations may be made to Special Olympics.

Fran O'Connell
Frances Eleanor "Fran" O'Connell, 88, of Silverdale died Oct. 30, 2002, at Harrison Hospital.
She was born Dec. 27, 1913, in Seattle to Mabel and Clarence Rising. She graduated from Queen Anne High School in Seattle in 1930.
She married Daniel J. O'Connell on June 1, 1938, in Seattle. He died in 2001.
Mrs. O'Connell was an artist who painted in a variety of media. She was a founding member of the Poulsbo Art League and a past member of the Verksted Gallery.
She taught art to all ages. Many of her paintings are displayed locally. During recent years, she created personalized birthday cards for fellow residents at Clearbrook Inn Living Center in Silverdale.
Mrs. O'Connell was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her daughter Noreen's family dog, Cooper.
She was a member of St. Olaf's Catholic Church in Poulsbo.
Survivors include her six children, Sheila Taipale and her husband, Denis, Patricia Hunt, Elizabeth Pritchard, Noreen O'Connell and her husband, Dean Fujii, Teresa Loving, and Dan O'Connell Jr. and his wife, Susana; nine grandchildren, Christopher, Mary Michele, Joel, Kim, Celina, Lauren, Michele, Adam and Naomi; nine great-grandchildren, Gwen, Julia, Carl, Rachael, Haley, Hannah, Jake, Sabrina and Milo; a nephew, Gerald Kuhn; and two nieces, Lorie and Margie Kuhn.
A granddaughter, Kristin, preceded her in death.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Martha & Mary Health Care Center, 19160 Front St. NE in Poulsbo. A reception follows, also at Martha & Mary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Martha & Mary Health Services, P.O. Box 127, Poulsbo, WA 98370.

Thomas Triggs Sr.
Thomas Joseph Triggs Sr., 82, of Bremerton died Oct. 31, 2002, at his home.
He was born Dec. 30, 1919, in Bremerton to Patrick Joseph and Bridgid (Mooney) Triggs. He graduated from Bremerton High School in 1938 and from Olympic College in 1953.
He married Virginia Ann Reder on Nov. 11, 1941, in Olympia.
Mr. Triggs served in the Navy from 1944 to 1945, achieving the rank of shipfitter third class. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon.
He went on to complete an apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard. He worked at PSNS for 31 years as a pipefitter and as a planner and estimator, retiring in 1971.
Mr. Triggs was a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. In addition, he was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton.
He was an avid college football fan. He also enjoyed woodworking.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Thomas Jr. and Dennis, both of Yakima, Michael and his wife, Judy, of Moxee City, and Gregory and his wife, Joanne, of Bremerton; two daughters, Patricia Triggs Trindle and her husband, Jim, of Southworth and Theresa Triggs Wheaton and her husband, Tim, of Spokane; a brother, John E. Triggs of Topeka, Kan.; a sister, Mary Agnes Fletcher of Bremerton; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Mary Anne; and by three siblings, Sister Anne Therese, Patrick and Charles.
A rosary will be said at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, followed by a funeral Mass there at 11 a.m. Private interment will be at Miller-Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County, Catholic Community Services or to the Olympic College Nursing Endowment.

Pamela Bird
Pamela Anne Bird, 55, of Driftwood Key near Hansville died Oct. 30, 2002, from complications of a long-term liver disorder at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle.
She was born Jan. 21, 1947, in Seattle to Jack and Mildred (Lintott) Bird.
She married Will Clark on May 27, 1998, in Las Vegas. The couple took Mrs. Bird's maiden name, becoming Will and Pamela Bird.
During her early years, Mrs. Bird worked as a legal secretary and later office manager for a Seattle law firm. She moved to Bainbridge Island in 1984, beginning a career as a licensed Realtor.
The Birds had been residents of Driftwood Key since 2000. Mrs. Bird filled her leisure time with gardening, horses, birds and her miniature Pinscher, Annie Rose.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; two sons and their families, David Simpson and his wife, Lisa, and their son, Jacob, all of Scottsdale, Ariz., and John Simpson and his wife, Jennifer, and their children, Bailey, Blake and Madison, all of Snohomish; two sisters, Dorothy and her partner, Zobra, of Guemes Island, and Joan of Bellingham; and her former husbands, George Simpson and Pete Hertrich.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Bleitz Funeral Home in Seattle.
Memorial donations may be made to the University of Washington Medical Center Transplant Unit in Seattle.
