PAUL WILLIAM (P.W.) BOND

Paul William (P.W.) Bond, born icon July 10, 1915 in Rosalia, passed away peacefully Jan. 25, 1999. Survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; his daughter, Carol Carter; his son, Ted Bond and wife, Maryann; and grandchildren, Paula, Chris and Sheila and husband, Randy. Preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy. His career was in construction, and he enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. He lived in Wenatchee from 1945 to 1962, when he moved to Seattle. He was a good man, and will be greatly missed by his friends and family. Services will be held Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 11 a.m. at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood. Remembrances may be made to American Cancer Society or your favorite charity.

JOSEPH F. DeFINA
Wenatchee
Joseph F. DeFina, 86, a current resident of Wenatchee and former longtime Bremerton area resident, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Central Washington Hospital of Wenatchee. He was born icon on May 19, 1912, at Hazelton, PA, to Jac and Angelin (Blass) DeFina. He grew up and attended school in Hazelton. On Nov. 14, 1936, he married icon Helen M. Kokitas in Hazelton. The couple moved to Bremerton, in 1944, and there, Mr. DeFina worked for several years with the Puget Sound Naval Ship Yard. He later worked for Charleston Hardware in Bremerton in retail sales. He and Helen moved to Wenatchee in 1994, to be near family. Mr. DeFina was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Bremerton. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge #192 and the Sons of Italy Club, both of Bremerton. He and Helen volunteered as cooks at the Eagles and Sons of Italy events to help raise funds for various charities. Joseph was involved in Wenatchee with the Wenatchee Valley Senior Center. Survivors include his son, Joseph N. DeFina of East Wenatchee; his two daughters, Dorothy Gaffney of Redlands, CA, and JoAnn Baker of Batavia, IL; his ten grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Mildred Lapetina of Hazelton, PA. He was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife, Helen (1995), by a daughter, Dolores (1969), and by seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held for Joseph F. DeFina, in Wenatchee, on Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at 10 a.m. at the Colonial Chapel of Jones & Jones Funeral Home with Father Ricardo Villarreal officiating. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated for Mr. DeFina on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999 at 1 p.m. at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Bremerton with Father Joseph Mitchell serving as Celebrant. Concluding services and interment icon will follow at the Forest Lawn Cemetery icon in Bremerton. If desired, memorials may be made in his name to the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church of Bremerton. Arrangements are by Jones & Jones Funeral Directors of Wenatchee.

ARTHUR "ART" LLOYD LANNOYE
Bothell
Arthur "Art" Lloyd Lannoye, 83, died peacefully at home Jan. 20, 1999. Born in Perth, ND March 28, 1915, then grew up in Egeland, ND and married icon Irma Baerwald in 1936. They then came to Wenatchee, where he worked in various orchard jobs for six years. Then they moved to Seattle where he worked at Sears for 20 years. Art served in the US Army in the Pacific during W.W. II. They moved to Port Angeles in 1959, where they owned Port Angeles Lanes and were especially interested in teaching young people and senior citizens to bowl. Art formed their first senior sanctioned league in Washington, was the city bowling secretary and Washington State Bowling Director for many years. Art was proud to have been the Charter Member of Port Angeles Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Elks, Eagles, and VFW. He retired in 1971 and spent his time fishing, hunting, bowling, and enjoying his family. He spent many years researching and compiling both family trees. In February of 1998, Art and Irma moved to Bothell to be closer to their family. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irma; children, Lee (Cheryl), Larry (Susan), Janet (Bob) Seager, Vicki (Stan) Anderson; brothers, Floyd of Kent, Monty of Port Angeles, Dennis of California; sister, Harriet Henning of Shoreline. Preceded in death by sisters, Iona Baerwald, Isabel Wenko; and brother, Forrest Lannoye of East Wenatchee. A memorial service was held Jan. 25, 1999 at Our Savior Lutheran, Lake City.

PATRICIA A. SCHMIDT
Newport
Patricia A. Schmidt age 51, entered into rest Jan. 17, 1999 in Newport, her home for the last five years. She was raised in Wenatchee and lived in Chatteroy for years where she and her husband owned and operated a silkscreen business. Patricia is survived by her mother, Pearl Rathman of Wenatchee; a brother, James R. Kelso of Wenatchee; a sister, Susan E. Kelso of Spokane; two nieces, Jonie M. Donovan of Longview, and Brittany N. Kelso of Spokane. She was preceded in death by her father, Ralph T. Kelso in 1965. A private family graveside service will be held Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the Wenatchee City Cemetery icon in Wenatchee. Riplinger Funeral Home, N. 4305 Division, Spokane, WA in charge of arrangements.

Paul William "P.W." Bond, 83, of Seattle, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999. He had lived in Wenatchee from 1945 to 1962, when he moved to Seattle. He had worked in construction. Survivors include his wife, Nancy; a daughter, Carol Carter; and a son, Ted Bond. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood. Arrangements are by Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills, Lynnwood.

Joseph F. DeFina
Joseph F. DeFina, 86, of Wenatchee, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Central Washington Hospital. He had moved to Wenatchee five years ago from Bremerton, where he had lived for 50 years. He had worked in retail sales at Charleston Hardware in Bremerton. Survivors include a son, Joseph N. DeFina of East Wenatchee; two daughters, Dorothy Gaffney of Redlands, Calif., and JoAnn Baker of Batavia, Ill.; and a sister, Mildred Lapetina of Hazelton, Pa. Arthur Lloyd "Art" Lannoye
Arthur Lloyd "Art" Lannoye, 83, of Bothell, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at his home. He was a former resident of Wenatchee, where he had worked at various orchard jobs for six years. He later moved to Seattle, where he worked at Sears for 20 years. He moved to Port Angeles in 1959, and to Bothell in February 1998. Survivors include his wife, Irma; two sons, Lee and Larry; two daughters, Janet Seager and Vicki Anderson; three brothers, Floyd of Kent, Monty of Port Angeles, and Dennis of California; and a sister, Harriet Henning of Shoreline. Memorial services were held Monday at Lake City.

RICHARD GARY McDONNELL
Lake Havasu City, AZ
Richard Gary McDonnell died March 24, 1999 at Havasu Regional Medical Center. He was 53. McDonnell was born icon April 21, 1945 in Glendale, CA. He was raised in Rock Island, where his family owned and operated a mom-and-pop market and custom meat cutting business. After graduating from Eastmont High, he moved to Seattle, until 1965, returning to Wenatchee to marry his high school sweetheart, Nancy Ingle. Later he left and traveled extensively for seven years across the U.S. five times and spent time in South America with his two best friends, Samuel Duvell and his motorcycle. Coming to Lake Havasu City 18 years ago, he worked as a cook for the San Francisco Bar and Grill, Pioneer Hotel, Ramada Inn, English Pub and as assistant chef line cook and salad bar manager for the Holiday Inn for six years. He worked for the Food City produce department until his illness in November of 1998. He is survived by his soulmate, Nancy McDonnell-Nielsen, Lake Havasu City; daughters, Kristine Parkins, Cashmere, Kelly G. Vickrey, Ardenvior, stepson Kim R. Wennerberg, Wenatchee; brothers, Russ and Robert McDonnell, East Wenatchee; sister Barb Watkins, Chelan; aunt Betty Bell, Wenatchee; biological father Robert Tosch, California; cousins, Roger and Gary Bell and families; seven grandchildren, six nieces and nephews, three great nieces and nephews; special friends Carol Hackett and family and Lorene McQueary and family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Helen and Robert McDonnell; beloved grandmother Bessie Wilson-Neff; and uncle Dick Bell. Pastor Mel Soderberg officiated at the memorial service on Saturday, March 27, 1999 at Lietz-Fraze Chapel. Arrangements were made by Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.

RICHARD A. MORGAN
Chelan
Richard A. Morgan, 59, of Chelan, died Monday, April 12, 1999 at Lake Chelan Community Hospital following a brief illness. He was born icon March 7, 1940 at Exeter, CA, the son of Alford and Maureen (Gossett) Morgan. He moved with his family to Chelan where he attended school, graduating from Chelan High School. Following school, he joined the U.S. Army. After his discharge from the service, he lived in Visailia, CA where he worked as an outside sales representative before returning to Chelan where he has been employed as a mechanic at Trout-Blue Chelan. Richard was married icon to Zandra Gordon on Oct. 7, 1994 at Coeur d'Alene, ID. He loved the out-of-doors, enjoying fishing and camping. He is survived by his wife of the home; two sons, Gary of the home and Don, serving in the U.S. Army; one daughter, Julie Diaz, Visailia, CA, two brothers, Don of Chelan, Jimmy of Lindsay, CA; his parents, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. Services are under the direction of Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.

ANGELA MARIE (JOYCE) SHORT
Wenatchee
Angela Marie (Joyce) Short, 91, a longtime resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Monday, April 12, 1999 at Central Washington Hospital. She was born icon March 3, 1908 in Murdock, MN, the youngest child of John and Mary Ellen (Byrne) Joyce. In 1913, the family moved to a farm near Tioga, ND. She graduated from high school in Minot, ND and then attended Minot State Normal School, graduating with a teaching certificate in 1927. She taught in a school near Williston, ND. On June 3, 1929, she married icon Howard O. Short in Williston and in 1935 they moved to Wenatchee to make their home. Howard died Aug. 12, 1976. Angela worked as a checker at Skookum's for over 25 years and then at Phillippi's until retiring at the age of 75. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church since 1935, a 50-year member of the Catholic Daughters Of The Americas, having been Grand Regent twice. She was a member of the Three Lakes Golf Club, loved playing bridge and golf, winning her last golf trophy at the age of 79. Survivors include: her daughter and son-in-law, Jacquelyn and Bill Zanol of Orondo; her grandchildren, Mary Sue Zanol of Orondo, Michael Zanol of East Wenatchee, Joan Marie (and Thomas) Steichen of Orondo, John (and Karen) Zanol of Columbia, MO, Therese (and Marc) Hewitt of Wenatchee, Elizabeth (and Grant) Daniel of Orondo, Thomas Zanol of Washington, D.C., Andrew (and Heidi) Zanol of Wenatchee and Anthony Zanol of Tacoma. Her great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Laura, Rebecca, Alyssa and Daniel Steichen; Kathryn, Joel and Margaret Hewitt; Hannah, Adam and Luke Zanol; Noah, Cullen, Emma and Sophia Daniel; many nieces and nephews, including locally, Joyce Frostad and Patrick Reiman; her special friends, Floyd and Rita Cline. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard, two brothers, three sisters and a great-grandson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Saturday afternoon, April 17, 1999 at 12:30 p.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Seamus Kerr, Celebrant. A reception will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic School with a family interment icon later in the day. A Vigil Service will be held Friday evening, April 16, 1999 at 5:30 p.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Ricardo Villarreal. Memorials may be made in her name to the Catholic Daughters Scholarship Fund. Jones & Jones Funeral Directors are in charge of arrangements.

LUCILLE BUCK SMITH
Honolulu, HI
Lucille Buck Smith, 97, a 52-year resident of Okanogan County, died April 8, 1999 in Honolulu, HI. She was born icon July 15, 1901 in Indianapolis, IN. She traveled with her family to Oregon in 1909 by covered wagon. She attended Whitworth College in Spokane and then became secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Washington in Olympia. At the state Capitol, she met and married icon State Senator Horace E. Smith of Okanogan County in 1926. They resided in Omak. In 1950, her husband died. She subsequently married icon Brewster apple grower, Roy R. Smith and was widowed again in 1978 at which time she took permanent residence in Honolulu. Two sons, Horace W. Smith of Brewster and Roger S. Smith of Honolulu survive her. Also surviving are four grandchildren in Seattle: Patrice Smith, Cassandra Peterson, Stephanie Younie, and Gregory V. Smith and three great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held in Seattle on May 8, 1999. Burial will be in Okanogan County.

He lived in Seattle and Wenatchee before moving to Lake Havasu City 18 years ago. He worked as a cook at several restaurants and then for the Food City produce department. Survivors include his ex-wife, Nancy McDonnell-Nielsen of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; two daughters, Kristine Parkins of Cashmere, and Kelly G. Vickrey of Ardenvoir; a stepson Kim R. Wennerberg of Wenatchee; two brothers, Russ and Robert McDonnell of East Wenatchee; a sister, Barb Watkins of Chelan; and his biological father, Robert Tosch of California. A memorial service was held March 27. Arrangements were by Lietz-Fraze Funeral Home.

Visitation will be 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Arrangements are by Precht Rose Chapel, Chelan.

She worked at Skookum for over 25 years and then at Phillippi until retiring at the age of 75. Survivors include a daughter, Jacquelyn Zanol of Orondo. A Mass of Christian burial will be conducted at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Father Seamus Kerr celebrant. A reception will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic School with family interment icon later in the day. A Vigil service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Father Ricardo Villarreal. Arrangements are by Jones and Jones Funeral Directors, Wenatchee.

Lucille Buck Smith
Lucille Buck Smith, 97, of Honolulu, Hawaii, died Thursday, April 8, 1999, in Honolulu. She was born icon in Indianapolis, Ind., and moved to Oregon in 1909 by covered wagon. She was secretary of the lieutenant governor of Washington in Olympia. She lived in Okanogan County for 52 years and moved to Honolulu in 1978. Survivors include two sons, Horace W. Smith of Brewster and Roger S. Smith of Honolulu. Private family services will be held May 8 in Seattle. Burial will be in Okanogan County.
