Maxine Katherine Minert, 92, of Kingston died March 23, 1998, at Messenger House. She was born icon Sept. 24, 1905, in Sumas. She graduated from the University of Washington. On Oct. 27, 1928, she married icon A.H. Rusty Minert. Mrs. Minert worked as a teacher for 30 years. She was also the first lady fire commissioner in Washington State and she served for 14 years. Survivors include one son, Jack of Kingston; one daughter, Janet Rettig of Suquamish; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1964. Anthony Howard
Anthony James "A.J." Howard, six months, of Bremerton died March 25, 1998, at his home. He was born icon Sept. 10, 1997, in Bremerton. Jeanne W. Lindquist, 73, of McCormick Woods, died March 25, 1998, at Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center. She was born icon May 24, 1924, in Seattle. She graduated from Cleveland High School in 1941. On Nov. 2, 1942, she married icon Harvey C. in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Mrs. Lindquist worked for the Bremerton Housing Authority for 10 years and then Keyport, retiring in 1986. Survivors include her husband; one son, Steve of Redmond; one brother, Stan Ridlings of Edmonds; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Former Silverdale resident, Verla M. Devers, 72, died March 20, 1998, at her home in Bullhead City, Ariz. She was born icon March 29, 1925, in Topeka, Kan. Charles Higgins
Charles James Higgins, 61, of Poulsbo died March 23, 1998, in Poulsbo. He was born icon July 3, 1936, in Detroit. On Aug. 8, 1988, he married icon Beverly in Seattle. Mr. Higgins worked as an air traffic controller for 37 years, retiring as the Pacific Rim regional manager for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Survivors include his wife; three sons, Doug of Fayetteville, Ga., David of Omaha, Neb., and Dennis of McDough, Ga.; three daughters, Kim Rizzi of Gainsville, Fla., Dawna Munson of Bainbridge Island and Diane Bollschweller of Edmonds; one brother, Thomas of Flippen, Ark.; two sisters, Patricia Hobgood of Mesquite, Texas, and Kathleen Hook of North Carolina; his mother, Elsie of North Carolina; and nine grandchildren. Allen Wilder
Allen Scott Wilder, 51, of Port Orchard died March 9, 1998, at Belmont Terrace in Bremerton. He was born icon Oct. 5, 1946, in Agawam, Mass. On Nov. 10, 1967, he married icon his wife, Nancy, in Seattle. Mr. Wilder served in the Navy for 23 years, until retiring. He later worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 18 years. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Phyllis and Patricia; his parents, Joyce and Alex Grygiel; three brothers, Steve Wilder, Gary Blews, and Kenneth Blews; and two sisters, Beth Chism and Jean Gagnon. Ann Callow
Ann Hagen Butler Callow, 70, of Indianola died March 18, 1998, at Harborview Medical Center. She was born icon April 10, 1927, in Seattle. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane and attended the University of Washington. She was employed in real estate in Kingston, most recently with Windermere. Survivors include the father of her children, Gerald Butler; four sons, Tim Butler, Rob Butler, and Dan Butler, all of Indianola, and Mike Butler of Salem, Ore.; two daughters, Susan Hancock of Indianola and Katie Johnson of Poulsbo; two step-children, Victoria Schubert and Jim Callow, both of Portland, Ore.; and 13 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon M. Callow. A celebration of life service will be at 12:30 p.m. March 27 at Indianola Clubhouse. She graduated from South Kitsap High School in 1930 and attended Bremerton Business College. On Aug. 31, 1932, she married icon Chauncey Arnold in Port Orchard. Mrs. Arnold was a homemaker. Addie "Jean" Larson, 66, of Port Orchard died March 20, 1998, in Bremerton. She was born icon Nov. 22, 1931, in Benson, N.C. She was a banker at First Interstate in Seattle for more than 30 years, retiring in 1993. Survivors include a son, William Larson, Jr., of Port Orchard; a sister, Helen Bozinski of Port Orchard; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Wilson Turner
Wilson "Ves" Turner, 63, of Delta Junction, Alaska, died March 16, 1998, in Anchorage, Alaska. He was born icon Aug. 9, 1934, in Hornersville, Mo. He graduated from Olympic College. On May 26, 1956, he married icon Mary E. Fitzwater in Bremerton. Mr. Turner served in the U.S. Marines as a physical science technician. He served in the Korean War. Later, he worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1964 to 1986. He is survived by his wife; one son, Don of Bremerton; two daughters, Vicki and Sherry, both of Bremerton; two brothers, K. Don and Larry, both of Dallas; two sisters, Tommy Jean Eastep of California and Mary Dedmon of San Antonio; his mother, Flossie Johnson of Bremerton; and eight grandsons. Oviedia Erickson
Oviedia Erickson, 83, of Bremerton died March 17, 1998, at Bremerton Convalescent Center. She was born icon Dec. 25, 1914, in Melstone, Mont. She graduated from Brainerd High School in Minnesota in 1929. On Sept. 26, 1936, she married icon Alfred in Brainerd. Mrs. Erickson was co-owner of Crazy Eric's from 1961 to 1997. She also worked in concessions at the 1997 Kitsap Fair. Survivors include two sons, Wayne and Darryl, both of Bremerton; one daughter, Sherry Sutton of Bremerton; one brother, Byron Anderson of Tacoma; one sister, Eileen Stone of Tacoma; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. March 23 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with a reception following at Darryl Erickson's home.

Evelyn Amos
Evelyn Iris Amos, 86, of Belfair died March 17, 1998, at her home. She was born icon May 5, 1911, in Mount Vernon. On July 21, 1947, she married icon William Henry Amos in Norfolk, Va. She is survived by her husband; two nieces, Barbara Newland of Port Orchard and Lynn Brown of Libby, Mont.; and a nephew, Bill Stine of Libby, Mont. There will be no services. Herbert Martin
Herbert P. Martin, 88, of Poulsbo died March 16, 1998, at Martha & Mary nursing home. He was born icon Feb. 4, 1910, in Mason City, Iowa. On Jan. 28, 1943, he married icon Winnifred in West Allis, Wis. Mr. Martin worked as a meat processing superintendent until his retirement. Survivors include two sons, James of Poulsbo and Jerry of Belfair; one daughter, Jeanette Litscher of Milwaukee; two sisters, Esther Schultz of Milwaukee and Gertrude Bohn of Kiel, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Arthur M. Matney, 77, of Port Orchard died March 14, 1998, at his home. He was born icon Aug. 3, 1920, in Ketchikan, Alaska. Survivors include one daughter, Carol Russell of Port Ludlow; two sisters, Elsi Knudsen of Port Angeles and Olive Gubser of Port Orchard; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. William Martin
William "Billy" Martin, 38, of Bremerton died March 11, 1998, in Bremerton. He was born icon March 9, 1960, in Bremerton. Mr. Martin served in the Army. Later, he worked as an auto salvage dismantler. He is survived by two daughters, Christine Sylvester and Amber Martin, both of Bremerton; two brothers, Vincent Martin and Parris Shepard, both of Belfair; two sisters, Tracy and Annette, both of Bremerton; his mother, Jeanette Kasten of Bremerton; and one grandchild. L.C. Woods
L.C. Woods, 69, of Retsil died March 14, 1998, in Seattle. He was born icon June 27, 1928, in Braggs, Okla. Mr. Woods served in the Navy for 20 years. He retired in 1966. John Fairbanks
John Murdoch Mackenzie Fairbanks, 67, of Port Orchard died March 12, 1998, at his home. He was born icon April 3, 1930, in Portland, Ore. Mr. Fairbanks served in the Navy, spending time in Korea. Survivors include his three sons, Mark of Vacaville, Calif., Dick of Port Orchard, and Bob of Salt Lake City, Utah; two daughters, Ann Freiboth of Kingston and Katie Staker of Ann Arbor, Mich.; and 11 grandchildren. Lyle Ferguson
Lyle James Ferguson, 79, of Bremerton died March 17, 1998, at his home. He was born icon March 4, 1919, in Bremerton. He graduated from Bremerton High School and Seattle Business College. Mr. Ferguson served in the Navy from 1941 to 1945. He later owned and operated Ferguson Carpets for 25 years. Survivors include his wife, Carmen; two daughters, Christine Kerr of Bremerton and Becky Ferguson of Big Lake, Alaska; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Earia Norbut, 87, of Bainbridge Island died March 13, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She was born icon Feb. 26, 1911, in Georgetown, Ill. Ms. Norbut worked as a store clerk in the retail business. She is survived by her son, Larry of Jefferson County. At her request, the memorial service will be held at a later date. Dorothy Gaasland
Former Port Orchard resident, Dorothy G. Gaasland, 90, died March 15, 1998, at Manor Care in Tacoma. She was born icon March 25, 1907, in Port Orchard. She is survived by her two granddaughters, Renea Engels of Florida and Cynthia Montague of South Carolina. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Marret. There will be no services. Marjorie Noreen Moore, 74, of Port Orchard died March 17, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She was born icon July 8, 1923, in Vaughn. She attended Vaughn High School. On April 18, 1943, she married icon Marvin Moore in Vaughn. Survivors include her husband; one son, Ronald J. of Port Orchard; one daughter, Cheryl L. Jack Gray
Jack D. Gray, 83, of Bremerton died March 16, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He was born icon Sept. 12, 1914, in Jamestown, N.D. He graduated from the Wahpeton State School of Science, Wahpeton, N.D. On May 25, 1940, he married icon Ruth Amundsen in Bremerton. Mr. Gray owned and operated Gray's Electric in Bremerton, worked on staff at Keyport Naval Torpedo Station, and taught electrical winding at Olympic College. He retired in 1970. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jack Jr., of Port Townsend and Jerry of Silverdale; one sister, Germaine Nichols of Bremerton; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Madora Ellen Ward Hicks, of Des Moines died March 16, 1998, at Wesley Homes Health Center. She was born icon in 1898 in Anderson, Ind. Theodore Wright
D. Theodore "Ted" Wright, 72, of Port Orchard died March 16, 1998, in Port Orchard. He was born icon May 27, 1925, in Ellensburg. On June 24, 1945, he married icon Bonnie West in Bremerton. Mr. Wright was a mortician for 25 years, the last seven in Port Orchard. He was appointed the Kitsap County Auditor and remained in that position for 10 years. He was elected to the position of Kitsap County Coroner, serving for six years. Concurrently, he was manager of the Kitsap County Public Utility District No. 1, retiring in 1990. Survivors include his wife; one son, Dennis of Seattle; one daughter, Dee Campbell of Port Orchard; one brother, Al of Bremerton; one sister, Jeri Rislove of Salem, Ore.; and four grandchildren. Services will be at 11 a.m. March 19, at Port Orchard Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Children's Hospital (Ann Wilson Guild) or to the American Lung Association.
