Porfiria V. Gonzales, 79, of Bremerton died March 15, 1998, at Bremerton Convalescent Center. She was born icon Feb. 26, 1919, in San Antonio. She worked as a laundry worker in the dry cleaning business. Survivors include four daughters, Shirley Drysdale and Teresa Spooner, both of Silverdale, Magdalena Gonzales and Lucia Rodriguez, both of San Antonio; two sisters, Vicenta Galan of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Antonia Martinez of Houston; 13 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A scripture and prayer service will be 7 p.m. March 18 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. March 21 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in San Antonio. Louis Alongi
Louis Alongi, 75, of Kennewick died March 13, 1998, at his home. He was born icon Sept. 24, 1922, in Roy. He graduated from Yelm High School and attended barber college. On July 8, 1950, he married icon Frances Huval in Pasco. Mr. Alongi served in the Navy aboard the USS Indiana during World War II. He later worked as a restaurant and bar manager and cook. Survivors include his wife; two sons, Louis Jr. of Bremerton and Tim of Kennewick; a brother, John of Arizona; a sister, Anna Gillespie of Bremerton; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Ernest Campbell
Ernest O. Campbell, 43, of Poulsbo died March 13, 1998, at Harborview Medical Center. He was born icon May 10, 1954, in Bozeman, Mont. He was educated in Kitsap County schools. Mr. Campbell was an auto mechanic. Survivors include his father and stepmother, Jim and Joann Campbell of Bremerton; his mother and stepfather, Darlene and Jack Hill of Big Fork, Mont.; a daughter, Mary Campbell of Belfair; seven brothers, James Campbell and Daniel Hill, both of Honolulu, Michael Campbell of Ferndale, Steve Campbell and David Rash, both of Bremerton, Brian Hill of Allyn, and Jeff Rash of California; and a sister, Kathi Shubert of Silverdale. Llewellyn Morey
Llewellyn "Poppy" Morey, 83, of Poulsbo died March 14, 1998, at the family home. He was born icon Dec. 24, 1914, in Rewey, Wis. Mr. Morey worked in the Carpenters Union No. 1597 for 45 years, retiring in 1980. His first wife, Ruby, died after 51 years of marriage. He married icon his second wife, Velma, on April 22, 1989 in Poulsbo. Survivors include his wife, Velma; a son, Dick of Bremerton; two daughters, Patricia Scott of Paso Robles, Calif., and Lenora Sommer of Sarasota, Fla.; four step-children; a half brother, Carl Byers of Vancouver, Wash.; a half sister, Millie Hubbard of San Diego; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 14 step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren. Donald B. Woodward, 72, of Suquamish died March 13, 1998, at Northwoods Lodge in Silverdale. He was born icon Dec. 10, 1925, in Newton, Mass. He graduated from Dalhousie College in Halifax, Nova Scotia with a degree in engineering. On Aug. 20, 1948, he married icon Barbara Finn in Newton. Mr. Woodward worked for The Boeing Co. for 36 years in Seattle and Lancaster, Calif. Survivors include his wife; a son, Dana of Fresno, Calif.; two daughters, Dawn Pickens of Bremerton and Donna Hodge of Kennewick; a brother, Stanley of Ashland, Mass.; a sister, Joan Woodward of W. Grove, Pa.; and six grandchildren. Memorial services are pending at St. Peters Catholic Church in Suquamish. AnnaMae Sharp
AnnaMae Sharp, 51, of Bremerton died March 14, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She was born icon Nov. 11, 1946, in Puyallup. She was raised and educated in Idaho. On Sept. 17, 1964, she married icon Robert Sharp in Payette, Idaho. She was a homemaker. Survivors include her husband; four sons, Rick, Tim and Joshua, all of Bremerton, and Terry of Port Orchard; two daughters, Christina Perry of Bremerton and Jamie Thompson of Newport News, Va.; her mother, LaVonna Reed of Hadlock; two brothers, Jimmy and Dale Reed, both of Hadlock; and five grandchildren. Roland Beatty
Roland W. "Barney" Beatty, 74, of Bremerton died March 13, 1998, in Bremerton. He was born icon Dec. 10, 1923, in Vinland. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1942. Mr. Beatty served in the Navy from 1943 to 1946. He later worked as a machinist at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 28 years, retiring in 1971. Survivors include a son, Richard of Keyport; a daughter, Judy Hedrick of Belfair; a brother, Fred of Bremerton; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. March 19 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. Brandon Eliason
A memorial service for Brandon Eliason of Port Orchard, who died March 3 at age 19 months, is scheduled for Saturday. Henry and Diane Castaneres, Brandon's foster parents for three months in 1997, are holding the service, which will be at 1 p.m. at Christian Life Center on Lincoln Road in Port Orchard. The church's children's choir, the Castanereses' daughter, Kathy Williford, and Sandy Jennings, wife of the Life Center pastor, will sing. The Castanereses also will arrange for a memorial plaque for Brandon in the rose garden of Belmont Terrace Convalescent Center in Bremerton.

Clare Sherrod
Clare W. Sherrod, 91, of Port Orchard died March 11, 1998. He was born icon Sept. 29, 1906, in Tacoma. He graduated from high school in 1923. On July 28, 1927, he married icon Burneta McCann. Mr. Sherrod joined the Tacoma Police Department in 1938 and retired in 1964. Later, he taught at Bates Technical School, worked for Motorola, the Navy, the FBI and St. Regis Paper Company. He is survived by his three sons, George, Jim, and Bill, who all live in the Tacoma and Port Orchard areas. He was preceded in death by his wife. Services will be at 11 a.m. March 19, at the Nazarene Church in Port Orchard. Arrangements are under the direction of Haven of Rest Funeral Home. Erna A. Cochran, 88, of Bremerton died March 13, 1998, in Bremerton. She was born icon Jan. 5, 1910, in new Salem, N.D. On Nov. 2, 1936, she married icon Harlan F. Cochran in Yakima. Mrs. Cochran retired from Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 1973. She is survived by one son, Kenneth of Spokane; one daughter, Janice Matte of Connecticut; one sister, Ellen Kiachmeir of Missoula, Mont.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Michaila Rebekah Burbank, an infant, died March 11, 1998. She was born icon Sept. 30, 1997. June Webster
June L. Webster, 75, of Indianola died March 10, 1998, at Bremerton Convalescent Center. She was born icon March 7, 1923, in Kaukauna, Wis. In 1968, she married icon Lawrence Webster of Suquamish. Mrs. Webster worked as a nurse's aide for many years in Kitsap County. She later went to work for Grisley Fiberglass on Bainbridge Island, where she made Fenwick fishing rods. She is survived by two daughters, Nancy Gast of Portland, Ore., and Sandra Gast of Olympia; three stepdaughters, Lorna Hill of Seattle, Cecelia Hawk of Suquamish, and Marilyn Wandrey of Spanaway; three stepsons, Dennis of Kelso, Charles of Kenai, Alaska, and Carey of Montana; two brothers, Wilber Mohr of Ixonia, Wis., and Donald Mohr of Suquamish; and one sister, Sharon Jansen of Kaukauna, Wis. She is survived by her son, Donald of Bremerton; her daughter, Patti J. Hendrickson of Bremerton; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. He worked in system engineering for Marine Engineering for nine years. Survivors include his companion, Andrea Campbell; one stepson, Joshua Campbell; one brother, Ken of Bremerton; one sister, Sheila Brown of Florida; and his father, A.C. Jordan of Bremerton. Richard Riedl, 74, of Port Orchard died March 12, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. He was born icon Sept. 11, 1923, in Aberdeen, S.D. He is survived by his wife, Grace A. Riedl; four daughters, Linda Ewing of Rochester, Gloria Coffelt of Port Orchard, Catharine Stidham of Chehalis, and Donna Randall of Cheyenne, Wyo.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Emily Slocum
Emily Reed Slocum, 94, of Bainbridge Island died March 12, 1998, at Messenger House. She was born icon Aug. 29, 1903, in Seattle. On Sept. 1, 1923, she married icon Harold Slocum in Seattle. She and Harold owned Slocum's Hardware of Port Orchard and Redmond until his death in 1967. In 1982, she married icon Phil Slocum in Bellevue. She is survived by three daughters, Mary L. Parker, Elaine Bartholomy, and Carole Groninger; 11 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1967, and her husband Phil in 1988. Services will be at 1 p.m. March 15 at the home of Laurie and Bill Boston in Poulsbo.

Genevieve Halady
Former Bremerton resident, Genevieve G. Halady, 94, died March 12, 1998, at Evergreen Vista Convalescent Center in Kirkland. She was born icon Jan. 10, 1904, in Chicago. She is survived by two sons, Theodore, Sr., of Bremerton and Richard of Everett; two daughters, Mary Lanouette of Woodinville and Rose of Bodega Bay, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. March 19, with a vigil service following at 7 p.m., both held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Former Allyn resident Genevieve W. Thomas, 84, died March 6, 1998, in Sierra Vista, Ariz. She was born icon Nov. 7, 1913, in Wenatchee. She graduated from The University of Wisconsin in 1938, majoring in French. On July 12, 1941, she married icon Robert O. Thomas. She is survived by her husband. Vance Adler
Vance Wolfe Adler, 80, of Suquamish died March 8, 1998, at his home. He was born icon May 29, 1917, in San Diego. Mr. Adler served in the Navy as a pilot, flying B-29s, P-2s, C-121s, and C-130s. He retired a commander in 1969 after 27 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Anna; one son, Vance of Reston, Va.; one daughter, Julie Ross of Suquamish; two sisters, Virginia Witherspoon of Greensboro, N.C., and Winnie Ford of Tucson, Ariz.; and three grandchildren. Cecil King
Cecil Edward King, 87, of Bremerton died March 8, 1998, at Forest Ridge Nursing Home. He was born icon Dec. 31, 1910, in Lapwai, Idaho. Mr. King served in the Navy. He enlisted on April 9, 1929, and retired as a warrant officer in October 1959. He is survived by his daughter, Mary Anne Landon of Grand Junction, Colo., and four grandchildren. Mary Ellen Fellows
Mary Ellen Fellows, 91, of Bremerton died March 9, 1998, at Bremerton Convalescent Center. She was born icon April 26, 1906, in Spearfish, S.D. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Washington. In 1935, she married icon Walter Fellows in Bremerton. Mrs. Fellows retired in 1964 from the Bremerton School District after serving many years as an elementary school librarian and a special education teacher. She is survived by her husband; one son, Benjamin T. of Port Townsend; two daughters, Sharon Masters Sipple of Seabeck and Mary Cleo Carpenter of Bremerton; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. John Volpone
John Paul Volpone, 81, of Lake Stevens died March 11, 1998, at an Everett care facility. He was born icon Aug. 22, 1916, in Seattle. Mr. Volpone served an apprenticeship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and retired in 1975 after 42 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Amelia; two daughters, Marcia Winslow and Teresa McMahon; one son, John; two brothers, Roy and Albert; and four grandchildren. Thorsten Eriksson
Thorsten H. Eriksson, 90, of Spanaway died March 11, 1998, at his home. He was born icon March 29, 1907, in Bellinge, Sweden. On May 1, 1937, he married icon Olive Johnson in Spanaway. Mr. Eriksson worked at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 30 years before retiring in 1961. Survivors include his daughter, Linda J. Lippens of Spanaway; his daughter-in-law, Lois Eriksson of Federal Way; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Services will be at 11 a.m. March 14, at Fir Lane Memorial Chapel in Spanaway. Audie Harvill
Audie L. Harvill, 96, of Bremerton died March 9, 1998, at Oyster Bay Care Center. He was born icon March 25, 1901, in Keltner, Mo. Mr. Harvill was a farmer in Missouri. He later worked as a custodian for the Kitsap School District for 14 years before retiring in 1966. He is survived by two sons, Fred of Bremerton and Audie of Prosser; three daughters, Ruth Cummings of Port Orchard, Lela Atkins of Bremerton, and Suzanne Reyna of Oroville, Calif.; two sisters, Lind Tremi of Tallahasse, Fla. and Anna Masterson of Wacissa, Fla.; 25 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Gerald C. Mayer Sr., 45, of Bremerton died March 6, 1998, in Bremerton. He was born icon Feb. 5, 1953, in Bremerton. He graduated from South Kitsap High School. Mr. Mayer served in the Army. He later worked in civil service at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 25 years, until retiring in 1998. Merton E. Francis II, 62, of Pendleton, Ore., died March 5, 1998, at his son's home in Oregon. He was born icon Oct. 7, 1935, in Olympia. Mr. Francis served in the Army from 1953 to 1957. He later worked as an executive sales representative for Boeing, Lockheed and McDonnell Douglas for more than 20 years. Survivors include two sons, Mert of Pendleton, Ore., and Donnie of Port Orchard; one daughter, Debbie Rader of Port Orchard; one brother, William of Grants Pass, Ore.; two sisters, Mary Ellen Malnerich and Loretta Snyder, both of Edmonds; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Elinor Yost
Elinor Leslie Yost, 90, of Bainbridge Island died March 9, 1998, at Swedish Hospital in Seattle. She was born icon Sept. 24, 1907, in Tacoma. She attended Lincoln High School and graduated from Virginia Mason Nursing School in Seattle in 1927. Mrs. Yost served in the Navy Nursing Corps from 1941 to 1945. Later, she worked as a registered nurse for 71 years. On April 30, 1946, she married icon John E. Yost in Cashmere. Survivors include one son, Jerry of Bellevue; two daughters, Debbie Chavanu of Maple Valley and Stephanee of Bainbridge Island; one sister, Jean Leslie of Sabastopol, Calif.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Ella B. Nielsen, 99, of Bremerton died March 9, 1998, at Harrison Memorial Hospital. She was born icon Oct. 19, 1898, in Campbell Township, Minn. Mrs. Nielsen came to Kitsap County in 1943. She is survived by her daughter, Glennys Schmeichel of Seattle; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Niels, in 1962. Alice E. Laguee, 94, of Bremerton died March 3, 1998, at Oyster Bay Care Center. She was born icon July 28, 1903, in Dupont, Ohio. In 1967, she married icon Roy B. Smith. Ms. Laguee owned and operated many area taverns until her retirement in 1978. She is survived by her husband. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. March 11, at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 1 p.m. March 12, at Lewis Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
