H. David Boone, Jr.
10/30/1951 - 3/19/2005

H. David Boone, Jr. age 53 born in
Detroit, Michigan on October 30, 1951.
David was educated in the public school
system where he developed his love of
sports, particularly football. He
graduated from Cass Technical High
School in Detroit and continued by
earning his Bachelor of Science Degree
from Eastern Michigan University in
Ypsilanti, Michigan. David loved the
game of football and was determined to
play as a professional. He felt his
chances of being drafted by a
professional football team would have
been greater if he had attended a big
ten college, however, his talent,
dedication, and commitment to
excellence caught the attention of the
Minnesota Vikings where he was an 11th
round draft pick in 1974. He spent
that year with the Vikings who went on
to play in Super Bowl IX losing to the
Miami Dolphins and earned his National
Football League Championship ring as a
rookie. While playing with Minnesota,
David met lifelong friend Jim Marshall
who became like a brother.
David continued his career
with the BC Lions, the Ottawa Rough
Riders, the Hamilton Tiger Cats, and
reached his peak as an all-star
defensive lineman with the Edmonton
Eskimos. As a member of the
famed “Alberta Crude” defensive line,
he helped his team win five consecutive
Grey Cups earning a total of six career
championship rings. David was the
recipient of the Canadian Football
League’s Tom Pate Award (1982) in
recognition of his sportsmanship and
his contributions to his team and his
community. He was also a three-time
West Division all-star in 1977, 1979,
and 1981 and a CFL all-star in 1981.
David was passionate about football and
played the game with fierce courage and
pride. He loved the sport and the life
it provided him. Anyone who talked to
David knew of his love for his home in
Point Roberts, Washington and the
solitude it provided him. He sat for
hours enjoying the panoramic view of
the Pacific Ocean and the snow capped
mountains of Canada from his deck.
That was the last view he enjoyed
before his Cemetery.
